    Exceptional hospitality

I stayed in a newly renovated Room, and it was wonderful. The in-room perks were excellent. In particular, the all-you-can-eat gelato was an incredibly generous service—perfect after the Onsen—and I enjoyed trying many different flavors. Everything was delicious. The pre-dinner aperitif can be chosen from the menu, and the lounge coffee machine is truly high-quality, so I used it many times. Both the quality and quantity of the meals were very satisfying, and what impressed me most was the staff. There were many young team members, but everyone’s hospitality was outstanding. Some staff members spent a long time chatting with elderly guests because they were approached for conversation, yet they responded without showing any displeasure at all—I was genuinely impressed. You can also enjoy two different types of Onsen water, and I think this Accommodation offers excellent value for money. I will definitely return again. Thank you very much for taking such great care of me.

The comfort of falling asleep while gazing at the stars. The bed sheets also felt like towels and were very pleasant. Since it’s in the mountains, I wasn’t expecting much from the meals, but everything was delicious. All of the male staff who served us were friendly, and their smiles were wonderful. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to visit again in a different season.

    Highly satisfied

I stayed here during the autumn foliage season last year, and this was my second stay, also as a summer getaway. All of the staff were very kind, and it became a wonderful memory. The meals were delicious, and I was completely satisfied. Thank you for showing me around the neighborhood by tuk-tuk in the morning! If I have the chance, I would love to visit again.

This is always a wonderful Onsen accommodation.

Despite ongoing staff shortages, this Accommodation located within Shiga Kogen Ski Resort would be even better if Yamanouchi Town could step up its efforts for the green season. Some boardwalks through the marshland still haven’t been repaired, transportation options are limited, taxis won’t come at all, and while the buses are clean and comfortable, there are simply far too few of them. When we actually tried the hiking trails, some were not maintained, and the difference between areas with clear signage and those without was extreme. Compared with Hakuba or Kusatsu—both of which have advantages—Shiga Kogen has its challenges. Still, this calm Accommodation marked by a waterwheel gives you a real sense of comfort as soon as you step through the door. Their sulfur Onsen is a highlight, so it may not suit guests who are sensitive to the distinctive Onsen scent. Since it’s deep in the mountains, there are naturally many insects—not only dragonflies, beautiful butterflies, and fireflies. Dragonflies and flies that can withstand acidic conditions are everywhere. The grass grows taller than I am at times, and I occasionally lose sight of my wife because of it. Even so, I think you’ll enjoy the wonderful hospitality, lovely Rooms, and relaxing conversations in the spacious lounge. The large public bath also offers a beautiful view. The cuisine changes boldly depending on the season, which makes us want to return again. This stay reminded me once again that this is Shiga Kogen Keikoku no Yu—the closest Accommodation among those nearest to “Yama-no-Eki,” the symbolic mountain station right in the heart of the national park. How strongly did it remind me? I walked all the way down through an entirely unmaintained section straight down Giant Ski Resort in midsummer—an area with a maximum slope of 34 degrees. In winter it’s a run you can ski down in under two minutes; this time I struggled through an ocean of grass taller than me. I’m truly grateful to everyone at Keikoku no Yu—especially the proprietress who always welcomes us warmly and sees us off until we’re out of sight. Thank you again for everything on this visit as well.

The meals were delicious, and the staff who assisted us at the time were very pleasant. The in-room Onsen bath was also at the perfect temperature, and we were very satisfied. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again someday.

    Thank you for your support.

It was wonderful to enjoy two types of Onsen with free-flowing natural spring water, and I’m glad my father liked it so much. The meals were also delicious—we were so full that we couldn’t finish the tempura, and my father was really disappointed about that. Thank you for making rice balls with the mountain vegetable rice. Breakfast was great too; the steamed vegetables were especially tasty, and we could enjoy everything while it was still warm, including the chawanmushi and miso soup. The food is truly excellent and highly recommended. On our way home, we spotted a baby monkey sitting quietly by the roadside, which made us smile as we headed back. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

An Accommodation with free-flowing hot spring baths featuring two types of spring water

This was our second stay, and once again we were completely satisfied with everything. The quality of the meals was far beyond what you’d expect from an Accommodation near a ski resort. Most places charge extra for horse meat, but here it was included in the course, and we could choose the main meat dish as well, which made us very happy. Because I’m allergic to shrimp, I couldn’t have the shrimp miso soup, so they served tonjiru instead—and it was the best I’ve ever had. The sake lees flavor came through beautifully. Tonjiru at restaurants is often dry because all the meat’s flavor ends up in the broth, but this one was fluffy and tender with plenty of umami left—absolutely outstanding. I meant to let my mother have just one bite, but she loved it so much she ate half of mine. There was also a generous amount of shabu-shabu meat; it was so tender I couldn’t stop eating. Breakfast was delicious too, with lots of vegetables. There was still some snow outside, but the floor heating kept the entire Room warm (including the washroom) to the point that we turned off the air conditioner and slept soundly. The in-room Onsen bath temperature was perfect and very relaxing as well. We booked an all-you-can-eat gelato Plan this time, so we enjoyed many flavors we didn’t try last time—thank you for such a wonderful treat. Since you’ve won awards on Jalan, I’m sure this is a popular Accommodation—but maybe it’s not as well known on IKYU? I think IKYU users would really love it too. Highly recommended Accommodation.

I stayed here on a ski trip. I hadn’t had a good impression of Accommodations around Shiga Kogen Ski Resort before, but this Accommodation was in a class of its own—the cleanliness of the building and Room, the staff’s service, the quality of the Onsen water, and the meals were all excellent. To be blunt, it was far better than you would ever expect from the exterior. The view from the Room wasn’t anything special, but it was an Accommodation that exceeded its price and left me very satisfied. I’d love to stay again if I have the chance.

    The Best Onsen

We stayed here for the first time on a couples’ ski trip. Until now, we had always decided to ski at Yakebitaiyama in Shiga Kogen and stay at a certain Hotel right by the slopes. For the same price, it was wonderful to enjoy an Onsen bath in the Room and two meals included. The ski area itself can’t quite match Yakebitaiyama, but since all the ski areas are connected, it doesn’t matter if you move around. The meals were delicious as well, and we would like to visit again next time.

    It was the best accommodation.

This time, I stayed for skiing purposes, and I was completely satisfied with the meals, service, bath, and atmosphere. The meals were a creative mix of Japanese and Western cuisine with excellent taste. The service was prompt and accommodating; any request was handled pleasantly and immediately, making my stay very comfortable. Last time I stayed during the summer season, and this time in winter—this is truly an exceptional hotel that can be enjoyed in any season!

A bit late for autumn leaves.

The autumn leaves had already ended this season. I thought I would come earlier next year. The Onsen at the accommodation was a milky sulfur spring. Since it was attached to the room, I could enjoy it multiple times without worrying about time. The open-air bath in the large public bath was also very pleasant. I was alone, so perhaps due to recent news, I soaked while nervously wondering if a bear might appear. However, the meals were delicious, and I fully enjoyed my stay.

Caught in unexpected snow, we couldn't reach the accommodation, but upon contacting them, they promptly came to pick us up by car, which was a great help. The accommodation exceeded our expectations. The meals were all made with local ingredients and were absolutely delicious. The fusion of Japanese and Western styles was delightful. The tableware was tasteful, making the dining experience enjoyable. We would love to visit again if given the chance.

    Would love to stay again.

I made a reservation after reading the reviews. I asked the accommodation about parking before parking my car as I couldn't figure it out. The large public bath had limited washing areas, but there were partitions, and both the outdoor and indoor baths had different water qualities, making them both very pleasant. Both dinner and breakfast exceeded expectations; the charcoal-grilled mushrooms were impressively large without a single blemish, which was surprising. The sudachi soba served as a palate cleanser was cold and just the right portion size. There were no typical grilled river fish dishes; instead, we enjoyed exquisite cuisine and tableware that made us repeatedly say during our meal, "We must come back here again!" despite being in a remote mountain area. Being able to choose an aperitif is appreciated for those who don't drink alcohol, but having paid drink options available was also delightful. We were drawn to the gelato sign at the entrance of the dining area and enjoyed it in our room—it was very delicious! The room was clean and quiet with a high-grade massage chair that I used several times. Thank you to the young male staff member who kindly answered my mother's questions—it made both dinner and breakfast enjoyable for us! Since winter roads are narrow from midway on and seem scary, we look forward to visiting again when it gets warmer!

    The stars are beautiful!

Stayed in the "Star Viewing Room" to see the stars. Although I had given up on seeing stars due to cloudy weather, I woke up in the middle of the night and saw beautiful stars through the window, which made me wake my husband out of excitement. Turning off the lights and enjoying the view of stars from the bath was also amazing. I would love to stay again at a different time of year.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

The room's open-air bath features a sulfur-rich onsen with plenty of mineral deposits, offering a dense and luxurious bathing experience. The panoramic bath in the large public bath area has no windows, allowing you to directly feel the natural breeze and scents—an incredibly indulgent experience. The meals were exceptional. The menu was a fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine, including dishes like vegetable jelly terrine, sudachi soba noodles, salt-grilled yamame trout, and sukiyaki made with Shinshu beef—offering a delightful taste of Nagano's specialties without becoming repetitive. The presentation was beautiful, portions were just right, and everything was delicious until the very end. Breakfast also featured a variety of dishes such as quiche, ham, and steamed summer vegetables. Despite having few staff members managing the accommodation efficiently—where those serving meals also cleaned rooms—the frequent interactions created opportunities for friendly conversations that added to its charm. This is an accommodation I would absolutely love to visit again!

I stayed at this accommodation again this year following last year. Despite the intense heat outside, it is refreshingly cool here. The massage chair in the room was truly relaxing. The bath in the room, filled with mineral-rich hot spring water, was also very satisfying. As for the meals, everything was delicious and almost too much to finish. If possible, I would prefer soba noodles instead of bamboo leaf sushi for the rice dish. Also, the dining area was a bit warm as the air conditioning wasn't effective enough—I'm quite sensitive to heat. It would be even better if check-out time were at 11:00 AM. This is an accommodation I’d love to revisit!

    The bath is amazing!

From the outside it may feel a bit unsettling, but the Room has been renovated and there were no issues at all. The indoor bath is also a sulfur hot spring, and we adjusted the temperature before soaking. It’s one of the places we’d like to visit again. We also enjoyed the all-you-can-eat gelato.

Exceptional hospitality and authentic Onsen, an accommodation you'll want to visit again.

I stayed at this accommodation during a motorcycle touring trip and had an amazing time. The room featured a private onsen, where I could fully enjoy the authentic hot spring experience with its sulfur aroma, white mineral deposits, and abundant water flow. This level of onsen quality is comparable only to here and Kurokawa Onsen among the places I've stayed. The room was clean and comfortable, offering stunning views of the mountains from both the window and the bathroom, providing true relaxation. The meals were crafted with care, showcasing a handmade touch in every dish. Each item was incredibly delicious. The staff were all kind and attentive, embodying warm hospitality throughout my stay. The comfort and warmth made for an exceptionally satisfying experience. This was truly a wonderful hotel that I would love to visit again.

The building is a bit old, but the room has been renovated and does not feel outdated. The semi-open-air bath in the room has a screen door, allowing you to enjoy the Onsen while gazing at the starry sky without worrying about insects. The large windows also provided a great view of the stars at night, which was truly satisfying. Having a massage chair in the room was fantastic as I could use it as much as I wanted without worrying about others. The meals were served in semi-private dining spaces, making it easy to enjoy them without concern for surroundings. This time, our room had clear Onsen water; next time, I’d love to stay in a room with semi-transparent Onsen water!

A lovely accommodation with an open-air bath.

The open-air bath in the room has a strong sulfur smell, but it gives a genuine sense of natural Onsen. The dinner exceeded expectations in quality and was highly satisfying.

The milky white hot spring is excellent.

(Rooms & Amenities) Stayed in the Shirane Room in mid-May. The room was clean and spacious, with a living room TV around 50 inches that supports YouTube, though the bedroom TV is not a smart TV. The massage chair was addictive. The view of the mountains and streams was excellent, making me consider revisiting during the autumn foliage season. (Service) A young female staff member attended to us during dinner and had extensive knowledge about local specialties like wild vegetables and Onsen manju shops. Check-in, dinner, and breakfast procedures are done via smartphone, which feels modern and convenient. Complimentary handmade ice cream and coffee were a delightful touch. (Onsen & Bath) Being able to enjoy pure milky-white hot spring water directly from the source in the room was fantastic. The water temperature was pleasantly hot with less stinging sensation compared to Kusatsu Onsen's simple sulfur springs but more opaque than Shirahata Source's water there. The same source is used for the public bath; however, it felt slightly cooler due to being semi-open-air—though I found the monkey-proof net amusing! (Facility) While complimentary ice cream or coffee isn't available at night, vending machines are provided so it's not an issue. Since there's no souvenir shop on-site, you'll need to purchase gifts elsewhere. (Meals) The dishes incorporated seasonal wild vegetables creatively while featuring premium ingredients like Shinshu beef and horse sashimi as highlights. Serving warm dishes at their best temperature is rare for hotels of this class; everything tasted excellent! They even prepared alternatives for items my wife dislikes—much appreciated! Plus, having your first drink complimentary added extra joy!

    Repeat guest.

I used this Ryokan to host friends visiting from Tokyo. I love the food and Onsen here, and I wanted to bring them here for a winter trip in Shinshu. My friends were very satisfied as well. Since they are gourmet enthusiasts, I could confidently recommend this place for its delicious food and relaxing baths.

Thank you for the pleasant time and space.

This is my second visit. The Room was different from last time, and the bathroom was nice. In the morning, the bath temperature was a bit high, so I lowered it with the shower water, but it was a pleasant bath. The meals were delicious and well-balanced, and the nozawana pickles made by the landlady were also delicious. Thank you for promptly sending my forgotten dentures. I will visit again.
