The Pacific Ocean right in front of us was amazing.
After reading the Reviews, I traveled solo to enjoy the ocean view and a delicious meal. The Shuttle Service is available for two or more people, so I walked from the station. It seems paying 1,000 yen would have been fine, but it was a good distance for some exercise (about 30 minutes). With the Pacific Ocean spread out right in front of me and very few other guests on a weekday, it was quiet, and I practically had the open-air bath to myself. I fully enjoyed the Onsen, and the chef’s dishes were truly delicious—I was very satisfied. However, since my Room was on B1, the breakwater blocked part of the view from the window, which was a bit disappointing. Still, having a massage chair helped relieve my fatigue, so it worked out fine. Listening to the sound of the waves right in front of me during dinner was amazing. The Nepalese woman who supported breakfast service was very pleasant; she spoke excellent English as well as Japanese, and her hospitality was outstanding. The locally sourced rice and eggs, clam soup with aonori seaweed, and more were all very tasty! I’d like to visit again in winter. However, it’s a shame that monkfish hot pot is available only for two or more people.

I was satisfied.
The Facility is a bit old, but it was very clean and extremely comfortable. The meals were standard, but the content and portions were just right for an elderly couple; everything was delicious and we finished it all. The bath was clean with a great view. The open-air bath in particular was a cypress bath with an excellent view, and it was wonderful. If we have the opportunity, we would definitely like to stay again.

The meals are delicious.
It may not be ideal for those seeking luxury, but we were able to enjoy the view of Futatsushima and the sea from our Room throughout our stay—the scenery changed with the time of day, from sunset to night and then morning. The building is quite old, but any areas of concern are properly maintained, and everything was very clean, so it wasn’t an issue. The Onsen temperature was just right, and the open-air bath while looking out at Futatsushima and the sea was amazing. The bath is small and cozy, but we happened to miss other guests at just the right times, so it felt like a private family bath. What satisfied us most was the food—both dinner and breakfast were delicious. If you want a very hearty meal you may need to order extra dishes, but everything made great use of quality ingredients, and we truly enjoyed every bite. The staff were also wonderful with their warm smiles. We even took a walk along the shore before breakfast and made some lovely memories.

A regular accommodation I will never visit again.
Known as an accommodation famous for its delicious "Dobu-jiru," it was a wonderful place I visited once or twice a year before the pandemic. The signature "Dobu-jiru," made without added water using only daikon radish and monkfish liver, was exquisite. Ginkgo nuts and shiitake mushrooms added color, while the orange oil extracted from the fresh monkfish liver enhanced its aroma and brought happiness with every bite. One of my annual joys was strategizing how to pace myself through the variety of side dishes to fully savor this dish at the end of the meal. Unfortunately, this time, I could not enjoy that pleasure. The first sign of change came with the appetizers. Previously, even their appetizers were crafted with care, offering visually and tastefully delightful dishes. However, apart from fresh sashimi, everything else was disappointing in content. Particularly poor were a meager serving of "oden" in a bowl and simply sliced yam—both lacking quantity or creativity. Then came the main dish: "Dobu-jiru." It was far below any acceptable standard for something served as part of a paid dining experience. First, its appearance—a dull gray monotone—was unappetizing. A foreign staff member explained that it was made by simmering paste-like monkfish liver with daikon radish and green onions; however, there wasn’t any trace of orange oil indicative of fresh monkfish liver. The blatant falsehoods presented as explanations left me feeling more sadness than anger. Next came the taste. It was overwhelmingly salty to an inedible degree. When we called over a Japanese staff member to express our concerns about its saltiness being unbearable for consumption, they brought out someone in charge who suggested adding broth would fix it—a response so absurd it left us speechless. We explained that we had been regular visitors for years and knew well what their "Dobu-jiru" should taste like; however, they dismissively claimed this had always been their recipe—a statement akin to nonsense. The dish tasted so terrible that we couldn’t bring ourselves to eat it further nor trust this person’s judgment; thus leaving most untouched before returning to our room. To make matters worse—the next morning's breakfast shocked us further. Gone was another highlight: shabu-shabu featuring fresh fish. Instead? Pre-made tamagoyaki (rolled omelet) paired with four types of store-bought pickles resembling catering leftovers—it felt insulting enough for us to leave immediately after finishing breakfast without hesitation on heading home disappointedly!

The sea is incredibly close.
We stayed for one night as a couple. The Room felt a bit small, and the open-air bath was the size of a household bathtub, making it somewhat uncomfortable to enter when someone else was using it. It would have been nice to have more meal options as well. However, the staff's hospitality was excellent, and the proximity of the Room to the sea allowed us to enjoy stunning views of two islands that changed their appearance over time. It was truly enjoyable overall.

Thank you very much once again.
Thank you so much for your warm hospitality despite the sudden cancellation of two members due to unforeseen circumstances. The monkfish hot pot was incredibly delicious, and the steak was exquisite. The flowers I brought home are now placed next to my late mother's portrait as a tribute to her. Although the large cake was slightly salty, I enjoyed it all by myself. I look forward to visiting again with cheerful friends next time. This trip, though meant for healing, truly warmed my heart. Thank you very much!

The meals were delicious.
The hotel was excellent, the food was very delicious, and the room was decent. The Onsen water quality was great, but the outdoor bath was small, and there wasn’t much to see while soaking in the Onsen. Unfortunately, this means the Onsen might not be a selling point since expansion is unlikely. However, the water leaves your skin smooth and can sting slightly if you have cuts—indicating it’s good quality. Additionally, I tried a local specialty ice cream from Ibaraki for 350 yen. It turned out to be more like sherbet rather than real ice cream! Honestly, something like Lady Borden tastes better. I suggest that the manufacturer reconsider their concept and aim for a rich, creamy texture in their product. If given another chance, I would love to stay again as the food truly stood out as exceptional. However, only the Onsen facility felt somewhat underwhelming in appearance compared to expectations.

Is the rating too high?
As mentioned in the reviews, the building is indeed old, but the room was well-cleaned. However, despite being called an "Accommodation of Seasonal Fish," no fish was served for breakfast. Typically, if seasonal or fresh fish is highlighted, grilled fish should be a must for breakfast—its absence feels odd. The plan was "Futatsu-shima Kaiseki." The roast beef consisted of two 4cm cubes and was served cold. I had high hopes for the grilled matsutake mushrooms, but they were placed under the roast beef and were also cold. I ended up dipping them into the leftover broth from the hot pot to warm them up—this was disappointing. Other than shabu-shabu, there were no warm dishes at all. To top it off, dessert coffee came in a paper cup from a coffee maker meant for free drinks during accommodation—it felt laughable. I think this place is overrated in reviews.

Repeat guest
The meals are delicious and generously portioned, providing great satisfaction. All the staff work diligently, and even foreign staff speak fluent Japanese. Their efforts are evident, and the service was pleasant and welcoming.

Perfect for relaxation.
I visited the ryokan to relax and refresh, enjoying a leisurely bath and some rest. Located right in front of the ocean, the view was stunning, offering a peaceful atmosphere. The sound of the waves was soothing and truly healing. I initially expected a casual buffet for meals but was pleasantly surprised by a proper dining area with semi-private rooms. A staff member attended to us and served our meals. The baths were clean, and I had a wonderful time gazing at the ocean while soaking in relaxation. If there’s one thing I wish for, it would be having shuttle service from the station even for solo travelers. I’d love to visit again for another refreshing retreat!

The view from the window is breathtaking.
It was a trip for three mothers and daughters. We were delighted to find wine as a welcome drink. The meals were delicious, and the portions were just right for women. The Nepalese staff's warm smiles made the experience even better. The three-sake tasting set had generous portions, which made us happy. The large public bath was well-equipped with amenities, and there was even wine available as a post-bath drink... (laughs). We saw the moonrise over the sea for the first time and also enjoyed watching the sunrise in the morning, which left us very satisfied. However, we noticed an unpleasant smell like sewage at the entrance of the Ryokan and in parts of the second-floor hallway—it might depend on specific areas though. Other than that, it was a pleasant stay overall!

A hidden gem Hotel in Ibaraki!
In conclusion, this is the perfect accommodation for women and families! First of all, the food was absolutely delicious. Every dish, made with plenty of fresh local ingredients, was exceptional. The seafood dinner in particular featured an abundance of fresh seafood that felt like savoring the ocean's bounty. The staff's hospitality was also outstanding. From the smiling front desk team to the restaurant staff, everyone was kind and attentive. A delightful feature for women is that each room comes equipped with a ReFa hair dryer. This thoughtful touch left a great impression—having access to a high-quality hair dryer makes hair care effortless. Additionally, all rooms offer ocean views, providing a luxurious setting where you can unwind while enjoying stunning sea scenery. The hotel also has a nostalgic candy corner that children will love. With an array of retro sweets on display, even adults can join in on the fun. Choosing treats together as a family created wonderful memories. With only 12 rooms available, this accommodation offers a quiet and serene atmosphere for your stay. From delicious cuisine and excellent service to thoughtful amenities for women and fun features for kids—this is truly an exceptional accommodation. Highly recommended for family trips or women's group getaways! I can't wait to stay here again on my next trip!

Seafood Feast!
I stayed here with my mother after visiting Oarai Isosaki Shrine and Hanazono Shrine. The exterior looks a bit old-fashioned, but the inside is different. The guest room was equipped with beds and very comfortable. Although the public road nearby was slightly dirty, the view of Futatsushima was breathtaking. The onsen is open until 1 AM, and they don't stop the jacuzzi halfway—showing their dedication to service. And the food! The seafood, highly praised by local suppliers (Otsu Port Yosoro Bussankan), was simply outstanding. From sashimi to crab hot pot, soup dishes, and even Hitachi beef seared to perfection—each dish was exquisite. Although I couldn't finish all the rice due to being full, they kindly made it into rice balls for us—the flavor of rice with dried baby sardines was exceptional! Enjoying such a meal while gazing at an endless ocean view felt like pure luxury. The staff were all very pleasant as well, which made my mother extremely happy. I definitely want to visit again!

Unique Accommodation
We visited for the first time as a couple and were extremely satisfied beyond expectations. The breathtaking view of the small island visible from every room, the exquisite cuisine showcasing the chef's creativity, the highly comfortable bath (exclusive to accommodation guests), and the friendly yet professional staff all contributed to an excellent experience. We look forward to visiting again during the season when pufferfish is at its best.

Just before Golden Week, 4th Floor Room 401, 2 nights: ¥81,000
During the 2025 Golden Week on weekdays, I searched for a 2-night stay while driving and found availability. The ryokan is undeniably old, but the reviews about the food were good, so I booked 2 nights for ¥81,000. The room was a corner room on the 4th floor with 16 tatami mats plus a bedroom. Although the room was old, it had a great view of two islands in the center and soothing wave sounds. There were two complimentary bottles of water in the refrigerator, but I finished them by morning. When I wanted to make tea and called reception asking for more water, the lady at reception immediately replied to drink tap water from the bathroom sink... I thought to myself—really? In this day and age? Drinking from where you wash your hands? On our first night’s dinner: we had high expectations based on reviews and blogs… but it was far from what we read about—the sashimi was dry; simmered fish (karei) lacked flavor; pork shabu-shabu… disappointing overall. Later that evening back in our room, I checked online again only to realize those reviews were from 2022 or 2023... No wonder there were vacancies available! Breakfast wasn’t impressive either—being in Ibaraki Prefecture yet no local natto served initially; just small dried fish as part of breakfast dishes. The highlight turned out to be clam miso soup! On Day Two's breakfast though they did serve crushed natto along with oranges (unlike Day One). Dinner improved slightly on Night Two compared to Night One—but still fell short given my high hopes regarding meals here overall—it left me disappointed unfortunately. For anyone considering staying here: check updated reviews closer towards your travel date especially those written during/after year-2025 experiences. This is purely personal feedback/opinion shared kindly hoping others find helpful insights ahead planning stays accordingly! Unfortunately didn’t capture many meal photos either...

It was excellent!
I stayed here during a trip with my parents. The view from the Room was stunning, and we enjoyed drinks by the window while admiring Futatsushima Island right in front of us. As the Hotel has only a few guest rooms, the service was attentive, making our stay very pleasant. The bath is small, and the open-air bath accommodates up to two people, but it felt almost like a private experience, so there was no inconvenience. The food was delicious, and I would love to visit again.

Stunning View
The building is old but well-cleaned, and we had a comfortable stay. Although it was cloudy, the view from the room and the open-air bath was amazing, and listening to the sound of waves was very soothing. When making the reservation for our wedding anniversary, we requested a room near the smoking area. We were delighted that our request was fulfilled with a nearby room, which made my husband very happy. The wine and message celebrating our anniversary were also a wonderful surprise—thank you so much! We were extremely satisfied with both the monkfish hot pot dinner and breakfast. The broth from the steamed clams during dinner, along with sashimi, as well as tamago kake gohan (rice with raw egg) at breakfast were especially delicious. The Nepalese woman who served us during meals and another woman at check-out were both incredibly friendly and warm-hearted, leaving us feeling happy and content. The dorayaki in our room was so delicious that I bought a pack of five as souvenirs but regretted not buying more! The grilled rice balls we received as souvenirs were also delightful. Next time, I’d love to stay again in another season to enjoy different dishes while staying at this accommodation!

The service, room, and meals are all wonderful.
This hotel was wonderful in terms of service, room, and meals. The service was courteous and pleasant, the room was clean, and the view of Futatsujima was truly spectacular, like a painting. (Regarding the sound of the waves, it is more of a "zazaan" sound than a quiet one, so it might feel noisy, but I liked it. By the way, earplugs are also available at the hotel, so they have you covered.) Also, the meals were very delicious, with both quantity and quality being very satisfying. I had a relaxing and pleasant stay, and I am grateful to all the staff at Futatsujima Kanko Hotel. I would definitely like to stay at this hotel again if I have the opportunity.

This is a Hotel that conveys the spirit of hospitality.
I stayed here for a family trip with my parents. Futatsushima is right in front, and the sea is close by!! You can enjoy a beautiful, painting-like view from the front window. We chose the standard kaiseki plan for meals, and each dish was delicious. Even though we were full, we could enjoy the meal until the end. I felt that they created a course considering the "just right" for the guests. The female staff member who served us was polite and had a kind smile. Other staff members were also kind despite being busy. The bath is not large, but the sea spreads out in front, providing a sense of openness and a good bath to experience the extraordinary. I was also very happy that one of the hairdryers was a ReFa. My parents, who came with me, were very pleased, saying it was the best property they had ever stayed at! The hotel doesn't have many rooms, but they provide attentive service. Thank you for the wonderful time. I look forward to visiting again.

A property that you can be satisfied with no matter how many times you visit.
I stayed for the first time in about a year and a half. I stayed in a room with a view of Futatsushima right in front of me, relaxed on the balcony after a bath while watching the sea, and felt extremely rejuvenated. Dinner was as delicious as ever, and eating anglerfish hot pot made me feel like I had come to Futatsushima. There was plenty of food, and I was full. Everything served for breakfast was delicious. Isn't it considerate to offer free refills of rice and miso soup in this high-cost environment? The rice was delicious, and the miso soup had a pleasant sea aroma and was tasty. I want to eat fresh oysters next time, so I plan to visit around June. Thank you very much.

We stayed at this property because we heard we could enjoy monkfish hot pot. The food was very delicious, and the location from the room and the open-air bath was excellent. We were able to perfectly view the sunrise. Some people seemed to be bothered by the sound of the waves, but it didn't bother us at all. Above all, we are truly grateful for the warm hospitality of the staff.

Polite service, high-quality cuisine, and stunning views
It was a wonderful hotel where the charm of a small property was utilized. The room and facility were cleanly managed, and unexpected thoughtful gestures like the rice ball service on the way home made our stay pleasant. I rated the cuisine lower not because of the taste or service, but because I chose the monkfish hot pot course, and I felt that a smaller portion would have left a better impression of the monkfish. The seasoning was perfect. The breakfast, especially the fresh eggs and the thick, flavorful dried fish, was outstanding. The room was clean with a spectacular sea view. If I may be indulgent, there was tea provided in the room, but I also wanted to enjoy coffee while looking at the sea! There was complimentary coffee available in the lobby, but the paper cups slightly diminished the atmosphere, which was a bit of a waste... so I deliberately deducted a star. Overall, I thought the rating was close to perfect. I recommend it to those looking for a quiet seaside hotel.

A heartwarming and lovely Property
This time, we stayed for one night over the last weekend of September, and overall, it was a highly satisfying Property! First of all, upon opening the door to the guest room, we were greeted by the breathtaking view of Futatsushima right in front of us, along with the soothing sound of the waves. The Onsen and water facilities have been renovated, offering a clean and pleasant atmosphere. While not particularly large, the main bath and open-air bath also provided stunning views, leaving nothing to be desired. The meals met our expectations, from the sashimi boat platter to the simmered Kinki fish we had been looking forward to. Everything was delicious, and we would love to return in a different season to try the anglerfish hot pot. Additionally, as one of our companions had a birthday, we requested assistance in celebrating in advance. The staff kindly accommodated our request, and our companion was very pleased. We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude. Lastly, the grilled rice balls we received at checkout were a heartwarming gesture that reminded us of the wonderful stay during our journey back to Tokyo. It was a truly satisfying stay. Thank you very much.
