    Shirahama Ocean Resort

    When I contacted the property because my online Reservation wasn’t working, a gentleman answered and was very courteous. Thank you for suggesting a non-smoking Room, perhaps because we had children. Since we were traveling with kids, there were some premium seafood dishes they couldn’t eat, but they prepared shabu-shabu so we were able to enjoy the meal. I often had to look around because plates and spoons weren’t placed where I expected them to be, so I’d appreciate it if this could be improved. The ochazuke setup was explained with a drawing, but the toppings were placed diagonally behind the rice area, so I wasn’t sure whether I should add them; grouping everything in one place would make it easier to understand.

    About Meals

    Dinner was served buffet-style, and we were able to enjoy freshly grilled seafood at the table (scallops, clams, and turban shells). The buffet offered a great variety, so I think it’s something guests of all ages—from children to seniors—will enjoy. Breakfast was also buffet-style, with both rice and bread available. There were many side dishes as well, making it fun to choose. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Thank you very much.

    The meals were delicious!

    This was my first time staying here. No matter what I ate, the food was delicious. The all-you-can-eat seafood grill, kamameshi rice, shabu-shabu, and steak were all great. The staff’s “Please take your time and enjoy your meal” was so comforting that I could eat without worrying about the time—and it was so good that I ate too much. The coffee was from a machine, but it was tasty! In the morning, the seafood grill and the DIY seafood rice bowl were also great! The bath area was well cleaned and felt very pleasant, but it was disappointing that there wasn’t any cold water available after bathing… You really want cold water after a bath. And the Room! Looking up, it seems nicely renovated, but down below is terrible. The carpet is dirty, and every door is worn out. The windows wouldn’t open either, which felt a bit uncomfortable. The daybed by the window was nice. The toilet was clean as well, which was good! If the Room were a bit cleaner, I would definitely like to come again.

    Recommended for guests who want to enjoy grilled seafood.

    Dinner is an all-you-can-eat seafood barbecue. The Hotel has a strong seafood barbecue smell throughout. The Room had been renovated, but the windows were old and did not close properly. As soon as I arrived, the Room smelled very musty. Even though it was winter, the humidity in the Room was high, there was heavy condensation on the windows, and odors lingered.

    Thank you, IKYU—it's been a while.

    It had been years since I last stayed at Takubokutei in Hakodate with the help of IKYU. In the meantime, I had been using “Yukoyuko” the whole time. It was nice to come back after a long while. This time, I stayed one night at Shirahama Ocean Resort in Minamiboso Shirahama. The renovation was nearly perfect, and everything was very clean. The meal was also excellent, especially the grilled seafood. The staff were unusually almost all Japanese—not that there is anything wrong with foreign staff; just to avoid any misunderstanding. The large public bath was not very good, but the bath in the Room was new and very nice because of that. I may use IKYU again next time as well. Thank you very much.

    Grilled Seafood

    It was disappointing that there were no oysters for the seafood grill, but we enjoyed the experience. The other dishes have room for improvement. Although the building and facilities are old, the Room was clean and the view was amazing. Both toasters at breakfast were broken, which was a bit amusing! Improved ventilation would be great! Thank you very much!

    We were extremely satisfied with the hospitality and meals.

    <HOSPITALITY> When we mentioned having elderly guests during the reservation process, thoughtful arrangements were made for the room and dinner seating. Although there was no drinking water provided in the room or facility, upon inquiry, a water pitcher was promptly prepared for us to bring into the room. While it seems that greeting guests upon arrival is not standard practice, when we arrived and were unloading luggage from our car, staff quickly came out to assist after noticing our elderly guest. This was very helpful. <MEALS> We made the reservation looking forward to seafood grill dishes highlighted on their website, but both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of options beyond that, leaving us very satisfied. The building is old but the rooms are clean with an ocean view. The limited number of washing areas in the onsen was slightly inconvenient... However, we appreciated services like various shampoo options and state-of-the-art hair dryers. We would love to stay again during a different season!

    Couples' Getaway

    This was my first time staying here. The renovated Room was clean and satisfying. The bathroom felt ordinary, but my wife seemed to like it, so we would like to stay again. Thank you in advance for your hospitality next time!

    The old Room is unclean.

    We stayed in an old twin room. Despite being a non-smoking and pet-free room, it had a strong animal odor as soon as we entered. There were water stains on the ceiling and walls, mold and dust in the corners of the carpeted floor, mold covering the air conditioner vents, and large amounts of dust on the bathroom ventilation fan. The uncleanliness made it unbearable to stay in the room. The laundry room was dark and lacked cleanliness, while mirrors and walls in the bath area were covered with water stains. We wanted to leave without staying any longer. Due to high season during Obon holidays, accommodation costs were very expensive. The air conditioner leaked water in our initial room, so we were moved to another one. The new room had been renovated; it was clean, bright, and very comfortable. The grilled shrimp from dinner's seafood barbecue set, kamameshi rice pot dish for dinner, and shishamo fish for breakfast were all delicious.

    Perfect for kids and pets!

    This was my first time using this accommodation, and I was highly satisfied! Here are the highlights: - Although check-in was at 3 PM, I was allowed to use the room a bit earlier as it was already prepared. - The quality of the buffet (seafood barbecue) exceeded expectations for its price! - The staff's hospitality was excellent. - Free pool access (including pets) and fireworks included in the plan made it thoroughly enjoyable within the hotel! - I stayed in a pet-friendly room on the first floor, and both the dog run and pool were easily accessible from the room—extremely convenient! I will definitely stay here again!

    The water pressure in the bathroom is too weak.

    I stayed at the accommodation several times during my visits to the shrine. During my first stay, I booked a Standard Room as only one room was available. The bathroom, toilet, and sink were combined in a tiled area, and it was dark even when using the toilet, so I had to bring in a standard light from the room. This was very unpleasant for me, so from my second stay onward, I chose a Deluxe Room with separate bath and toilet. The interior had been renovated and was comfortable; however, the water pressure in the shower was extremely weak, making hair washing take a long time. Although I stayed here hoping for a comfortable hotel experience, this issue caused significant stress and disappointment. I would like to request normal water pressure for the showers.

    Friendly

    The meals were delightful, and I ended up eating more than I intended. The staff at the dining area were friendly, offering recommendations and showing great attentiveness. During dinner, they asked if there was anything unsatisfactory, so I mentioned the issue with the bathroom door not closing properly. By the next morning, they had responded to my feedback, and it seemed that proper communication was in place as the front desk also apologized during checkout. They mentioned that due to aging facilities, improvements are being made gradually. Looking forward to future updates!

    Pets Allowed

    As soon as I entered the Room, I noticed a pet odor and opened the window. I kept the window open until bedtime, which made it slightly less noticeable. The Room had creaky floors, and the walls seemed to have been patched up manually. Although the sheets were new, being in bed felt uncomfortable as if something was there, causing itchiness that made it hard to sleep. It was nice that YouTube was available to watch. The buffet featured delicious fish, and grilling it myself kept me busy but was enjoyable. My husband found the price reasonable and was satisfied with both the food and overall experience.

    All rooms offer ocea...

    All rooms offer ocean views as advertised, providing a stunning and refreshing scenery from both the Room and the bath. However, due to the outdated Facility, there was an unpleasant toilet smell in the Room, and odors from grilling dried fish in the dining area drifted in. Unfortunately, we couldn't ventilate as windows could not be opened. The seafood barbecue we were most looking forward to was disappointing with only three options (boiled oysters, shrimp, and small scallops). However, upgrading to a luxurious seafood rice pot alongside the regular one turned out to be very delicious.

    The worst plumbing. Showa-era Hotel.

    I knew the building was old, so I didn't have high expectations, but it was worse than I anticipated. The Room had dirt everywhere, and the age of each Facility stood out. The bathroom in the Room is tiled with a combined bath and toilet, but the dirty tiles and mold were very noticeable and filthy. There was no way I would want to use the bath in the Room, and I really hated using the toilet. The station's toilet was still cleaner. I didn't even have the courage to use tap water; instead, I used mineral water to brush my teeth. Also, in the large public bath area, there wasn't enough space between showers; you would definitely get splashed by your neighbor's shower. It truly felt like a Showa-era Hotel... As for meals, they were neither good nor bad taste-wise—just average—but what bothered me most was how cumbersome their system was. Both breakfast and dinner are buffet-style where you can enjoy grilled seafood or shabu-shabu at your own seat; however this required carrying unbalanced utensils back-and-forth multiple times which seemed inefficient—I think there could've been better ways to handle it all! While check-in service itself had been very polite unfortunately everything else left much disappointment behind making me relieved that we only stayed one night here! Most likely will never stay again...

    We were given a different Room!

    I have stayed here twice in the past, but this time the room was too dark, not renovated, and the window on the sea side was stuck and couldn't be opened. When I spoke to the front desk, they kindly changed it to a renovated, beautiful room! I was able to spend my time very pleasantly and am very satisfied! Thank you very much!

    I want to come again!

    I love buffets that allow dogs, and until now, I have only been to resorts in Yachimata City. I found this place online and visited, and I was very satisfied! The Facility and furniture are old, but the variety and quality of the buffet are good! Also, the staff at the buffet venue took photos for us and provided very pleasant service. I thought of bringing my parents next time in the warm season.

    The bathroom and toilet in the room are terrible.

    The bathroom and toilet are together with tile flooring. It's unsanitary as there are no slippers for the toilet. The angle of the shower is also bad, and when I tried to adjust the temperature, the water flowed onto the toilet floor. There were loud gurgling noises from the pipes, and the shower wouldn't come out easily. The plumbing is terrible. Where am I supposed to fill the electric kettle in the Room with water from? I will never go again.
