    A Summer Trip for Mother and Daughter

    The Room was spacious, and we were able to relax comfortably. We were a little disappointed that the steak at dinner was overcooked and tough.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The Room was spacious and comfortable. Perhaps because there aren’t many Rooms and it was just after the Obon holidays, both check-in and check-out were smooth with no crowds. The bath wasn’t very large and there was no open-air bath, but I was able to relax and enjoy it. Some guests might not notice the amenities unless they check carefully. Both dinner and breakfast were reasonably satisfying.

    Overall disappointing

    We couldn’t choose the Room under the cheaper Plan, so it couldn’t be helped, but it was not the Western-Japanese style Room shown in the photos—just a standard Japanese-style Room. We made a Reservation for four people, but only three sets of futons and other amenities were provided. We arrived early and went straight to the Onsen; it was lukewarm so we could soak for a while, but no hot water came out of the showers even after waiting. When we went at night, it was so hot we couldn’t use the Onsen at all—I wondered what was going on with the temperature control. Dinner was a full-course meal and there was plenty of food, but unfortunately the taste was quite disappointing. The in-room refrigerator barely seemed cold and wasn’t really usable. The website mentioned breakfast would include “Eggs Benedict,” but it was just a buffet with fewer items than usual. About the only good point was that herbal tea is available 24 hours a day. The coffee tasted bad.

    Affordable

    As this was a last-minute trip to Karuizawa, we were looking for an affordable Hotel. We were glad we could stay at a reasonable price even in Karuizawa. The building shows its age, but the room was kept clean and we had no issues during our stay. We had a Multiple Night Stay, and towels and trash were collected without any additional charge. We used a twin room, and it felt spacious with a sofa, two chairs, and a table in addition to the beds. The Onsen had only one large public bath, but it was relaxing. Most of the staff were friendly as well. We would like to stay here again when we visit Karuizawa. It’s reasonably priced, so I recommend it for anyone looking to keep costs down.

    I was a bit worried ...

    I was a bit worried after reading the Reviews, but it turned out to be a great value Hotel. The building is old, but it was well cleaned, and the view from the window was nice. In the lounge, you can enjoy coffee and house wine, and dinner was a set course meal. It’s simple French cuisine, but I felt it was very reasonably priced to have meals included at this rate (it may have been an especially good Plan by chance). Since I stayed for work, this Hotel offered excellent satisfaction for the price. Of course, I wouldn’t really recommend it to those looking for a luxury Hotel, but I highly recommend it for groups of friends or families who want a good-value stay. I’d love to stay again.

    Excellent service, and reasonably priced considering the great location.

    (What I liked) All staff provided courteous, excellent service. The Onsen was at a comfortable temperature and felt so good I wanted to stay in it all the time. The food was also good. The Room was quiet and I slept well. Although it’s conveniently located for visiting popular spots, the Accommodation Fee was reasonably priced compared with nearby places, which was great. (What I’d like improved) I stayed in a double Room, but due to the layout, toilet sounds could be heard clearly in the Room, which personally bothered me. The hand towel was thinner than what I use at home, and only one was provided even though there were two of us—and there were no replacements despite our Multiple Night Stay. Replacement bath towels were left in front of the Room, so I wished the hand towel had been replaced as well, though considering the price it may be understandable. There was also only one spare roll of toilet paper, so I was a bit worried about running out. The food itself tasted good, but the buffet setup is in a corner of the room with one-way flow on one side only, so long lines form right when service starts. With a line of hungry guests right next to where you’re eating, it’s hard to focus on your meal, and the line doesn’t move quickly. It felt like a missed opportunity because the staff worked efficiently otherwise. Still, I might stay again anyway.

    As this is a chain h...

    As this is a chain hotel, I assumed a certain level of quality would be guaranteed and was attracted by the low price, so I made a last-minute Reservation. While it was cheap, I regret not spending a bit more for a better place. The Facility overall is old but has a sense of cleanliness. However, the Room's lighting was broken and taped with duct tape, which had come off and was very noticeable and unusable (no explanation at reception). The lounge mentioned that the fireplace would be lit during certain periods, but out of several visits, I only saw it lit once (a staff member came to light it after it had been off for some time). Despite being right in front of reception, there seemed to be no regular checks by staff on the lounge. There was also a garden covered in fallen leaves with no one using it; although there appeared to be enough staff around, sweeping or cleaning did not seem to have been done even once. The food is served as a half-buffet style but should not raise high expectations. It tastes good but portions are small—similar to what you might expect from business Hotel buffets. The most unpleasant experience occurred during the morning bath. While using the bath within its posted hours of operation, an opposite-gender staff member entered for cleaning and saw me completely naked. They were foreign and said nothing before leaving; shortly after that incident, another Japanese female staff member entered while I remained undressed and casually apologized with "Oh sorry~ still before time huh~" before leaving again. This left me feeling not only embarrassed but extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, as part of becoming group members we were told late check-out would apply; this had even been confirmed upon check-in by their team—but just 10 minutes past normal check-out timing we received calls from front desk questioning us about departure status instead! Day two started terribly because such incidents ruined everything altogether—I will never use nor recommend any Hotels under this group ever again!

    The facility has an old-fashioned charm reminiscent of the Showa era, but it is clean and satisfactory. The room for staying with our dog was surprisingly spacious. All the staff were very kind. I had low expectations due to some negative reviews about the food, but while the soup and dessert were not to my taste, everything else was delicious. I heard that the chef has changed. Thank you to everyone for taking care of us!

    Perfect for a late summer vacation.

    I took a vacation at the beginning of September and visited Karuizawa for the first time in 10 years. The night illumination at the retro-style Western accommodation was stunning. We stayed to celebrate my wife's birthday, and I was touched by the dessert plate they prepared for us. The room had been renovated, was clean, and made our stay very comfortable. Above all, we were soothed by the smiles of the staff. Thank you very much!

    It was a good Hotel.

    I stayed on a weekday at the beginning of September. Although I was a bit apprehensive due to some negative reviews about service, facilities, and meals, my experience turned out to be pleasantly surprising. Starting with check-in: it involved using a tablet with QR code operation, but with staff support, everything went smoothly! The staff's assistance was reassuring and pleasant. Explanations about the facility were also very clear and efficient. The room was a Deluxe Twin—spacious and impeccably clean without any issues. However, there were some stains on the sofa that caught my attention... I didn’t use the sofa much though; instead, I relaxed on the bed. In the lobby lounge, coffee, tea varieties, red wine, and white wine were available for free enjoyment. The white wine was delicious! The bath didn’t have an open-air option but was spacious and comfortable nonetheless. The changing area was also clean. Breakfast had limited options but tasted great overall. The pumpkin gratin? Doria? Penne?—the lineup felt slightly skewed in variety but considering the accommodation cost, it offered excellent value for money. I would definitely stay here again if given another opportunity!

    Stayed in a room for 6 people with 6 guests. The accommodation fee exceeded 30,000 yen per person. Upon arrival, the futons were laid out, but there were only 5 sets of cushions and slippers prepared. The room was small and lacked cleanliness. The meals did not meet expectations in terms of buffet variety, quantity, or taste, which was disappointing. The onsen was pleasant and warming; however, the complimentary chilled tea in the refrigerator after bathing was empty. For the price charged, attention to detail and hospitality could have been better. While this feedback does not need to be posted publicly, I hope it serves as a reference for improvement so that future guests do not experience similar dissatisfaction. I sincerely wish for this hotel to uphold its brand name and continue striving to become an even better accommodation option in Karuizawa.

    There is no elevator.

    Karuizawa was cool and comfortable, which was satisfying, but the Room felt dark and outdated, which was a concern. Since there were only stairs, I had to carry my suitcase up the stairs. The large public bath provided a relaxing experience. As for breakfast, nothing particularly stood out; it would have been nice to enjoy delicious local vegetables.

    A complimentary glass of wine was offered as a welcome drink.

    Considering the cost-performance, it was a very good Hotel. Wine, light snacks, and coffee were available 24 hours in the lounge. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. However, the Facility felt a bit old. There was no open-air bath in the bathroom. It would have been great if there was even a small open-air bath to enjoy the view—this was a bit disappointing. The Room was very spacious and comfortable.

    Affordable accommodation?

    The atmosphere is lovely. I chose this accommodation because it allows staying with dogs and offers affordable rates. The pet-friendly rooms are limited, so the room and facility were as expected. However, the meals were a bit unexpected. Since the appetizers and desserts are served buffet-style, I think it would be better if everything was offered as a buffet. The variety is also limited. Although it was a plan where you could choose only the main dish, I felt there wasn’t much of a special touch, so having everything as a buffet might be better. While the stay was reasonably priced and not bad overall, having meals divided in that way felt somewhat underwhelming.

    I stayed here for a solo trip without a car. Since I missed the shuttle service on the way, I took a bus to Toriibara Danchi-mae, did some shopping at Tsuruya, and walked to the accommodation. It took about 15–20 minutes from Tsuruya to the accommodation. The route was straightforward, so there was no chance of getting lost. On my return, I used the shuttle service to Naka-Karuizawa. Although I knew in advance that it was an old building, several hygiene issues caught my attention. The room felt damp, and even lowering the air conditioner temperature didn’t reduce the humidity. There were multiple stains on the sofa, and even the bedding felt damp. During sleep, I experienced itching all over my body and woke up several times. - Convenient for those without a car - Close to Tsuruya and SHOZO Coffee - Relatively affordable These points were appealing; however, as someone particular about cleanliness, it turned out to be a challenging experience for me.

    Used for a girls' trip with friends. Utilized the Plan with dinner upgrade for reservations made 30 days in advance. The meals were delicious, and the staff was very pleasant. Great value for money. We had an enjoyable one-night stay. Thank you!

    Reasonably priced an...

    Reasonably priced and very satisfactory. The meals were initially a concern, but the portions and presentation were more than adequate. The main dish had tender meat, but the sauce was not very flavorful. The homemade pudding was also not to my taste. However, overall, it was excellent. I would love to visit again.

    I feel refreshed!

    Second stay at the accommodation following last year. Last time was a Western-style room, but this time a Japanese-style room. The tatami was great, and I enjoyed relaxing after a long time. The welcome wine was excellent. Enjoyed the onsen twice. The slightly retro vibe is perfect for a change of pace. I forgot something, but they responded promptly when I contacted them. Would love to visit again!

    This is my first time posting a Review. Last week, my spouse, one child, and I stayed for two nights. [Staff & Hospitality] It seemed like they were managing labor costs, as there were only the minimum necessary staff. It felt more like a Business Hotel than a Hotel, which was a bit disappointing. [Shuttle Service] If you make a Reservation, you can definitely use the Shuttle Service. However, once the number of passengers is reached, they cannot add more trips, and you have to consider other transportation options. Other Hotels have managed this by adding more trips, which was disappointing. [Lighting in the Facility] Isn't it generally dark? Since we have a child, we wanted to enjoy the Hotel, but it might not be very comfortable. [Breakfast] It is not promising. The quality is questionable as to whether it matches that of a Business Hotel. [Room] I was concerned about a peculiar smell. Was it a smoking Room in the past? [Dinner] It was very good. However, I was a bit concerned that the meals for toddlers had too many fried items. [App] You make Reservations for breakfast, dinner, and Shuttle Service times using a specified app, but the app's testing was insufficient, resulting in a bug where the screen turns completely white, and we had to call the front desk for assistance. The above points are a bit harsh because we have used various Hotels through IKYU, but other than the points mentioned, it was comfortable. We enjoyed free wine and chocolate liqueur and played billiards for the first time in a while. The staff at dinner were sufficient and played with our child, which made us happy.

    I reserved 2 Rooms on the first day of the consecutive holidays.

    I reserved two rooms for Saturday, October 12th. Two families, one from Kanazawa and one from Chiba, gathered at this hotel for my mother's birthday, and we were taken care of as a group of five. During dinner, a female staff member of foreign nationality responded very cheerfully with a smile. She mentioned she had a day off the next day, but she was working the following morning. When we asked why, she jokingly said it was because she wanted to see us, and she attended to us with a smile without showing any signs of fatigue. She also greeted us at checkout. We felt saved by your bright and energetic work in a foreign country. We couldn't catch your name, but my mother and we were happy to take a photo together at the end. Please take care of yourself and keep up the good work! We will come to see you all again! Thank you! All the staff are kind!
