    It was excellent.

It was conveniently located with easy access to Kumano Hongu Taisha. The Accommodation was new and comfortable, and the meals featured dishes inspired by Wakayama—there’s no other way to describe it than pure happiness. Being soothed by nature and the Onsen made this an amazing trip. I’ll definitely come back! If I had to mention one thing, could you consider setting time limits for the lounge? I could hear people staying there for long periods chatting, and since I couldn’t use it, that was a little disappointing.

Summer Fun for the Whole Family

The meals offered a wide variety of options. The lounge was also great, with alcoholic drinks available. The gently flowing river viewed from the Room is perfect as a play spot for small children. As for the baths, the water was excellent—slightly thick and silky—and it looked fun that you can enter the open-air bath from the river. However, the faucets and shower hoses were covered in black mold, which made me hesitate to use them. This should be addressed as soon as possible. (This does not need to be made public; please inform the Ryokan.)

    Kawayu was amazing.

The outdoor river hot spring was incredibly relaxing. Large carp streamers were gently swaying in the wind, and while watching the sky, greenery, and the flowing river, it was wonderful to soak slowly both in the evening and in the morning. Even though it’s mixed bathing, you bathe wearing a yukata-style bathing garment, and there are separate areas for men and women as well, which was reassuring. When we got too warm, we’d go dip our feet in the river for a bit. We felt so happy being able to relax in nature. The meals were delicious, and there were alcoholic drinks and soft drinks too, so we enjoyed them freely at our own pace. Everyone at the Accommodation was very kind, and it was also really nice that it was quiet since we came right after Golden Week ended. My friend and I were saying we definitely want to come again next time. Thank you for taking such good care of us. The photo is of the river view from our Room.

I wouldn’t want to stay here again.

The Room did not appear to have been cleaned, and the outdoor light outside the Room was turned off. It was disappointing that the Room’s open-air bath did not have a washing area.

A Comfortable Accommodation Surrounded by Nature

The staff were very friendly, and I had a comfortable stay. The private river bath was more hygienic than the public one. I enjoyed bathing surrounded by nature. I was also happy with the wide variety of welcome drinks.

The sulfur aroma in the bath!

The highlight was soaking in the Onsen, which was absolutely amazing. The indoor bath with its sulfuric aroma was especially fantastic! Additionally, the mixed-gender open-air bath by the riverside, surrounded by nature, was another incredible experience! As for meals, I only had breakfast. When I went at 7:00 AM, it was very crowded with guests. In the end, I just grabbed some porridge and sausages from a less crowded line and left quickly.

    Comfortable Accommodation

The staff's hospitality was delightful, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing and pleasant time. The timing was perfect, and the open-air bath was very refreshing. The meals were delicious, and we couldn't resist having multiple servings of the hot pot and grilled salted sweetfish. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

I'm sorry, but I need more context to provide an appropriate translation. Could you please clarify or provide additional details?

We had some time before check-in, so we mentioned wanting to play by the river. However, perhaps due to how we asked, we were directed to a riverside spot about 3 minutes away by car. After checking in, we realized that the riverside behind the hotel was more than sufficient for playing. It would have been helpful if they had clearly informed us of this option. The staff seemed somewhat unapproachable and indifferent overall. Having stayed at a certain resort hotel in Shirahama the previous day, the difference in staff hospitality was striking. The open-air bath was excellent; however, despite the good weather, it was too bright to enjoy the starry sky properly, which was disappointing. As for dinner and breakfast, our expectations weren’t high—they were neither particularly good nor bad. The grilled sweetfish (ayu) was small but tasty. If there’s a next time, I’d like to bring my grandchildren along.

Fireworks available, bringing great joy to grandchildren.

Fireworks were prohibited by the riverside, so we had given up on the idea... However, the front desk provided everything we needed, including fireworks, candles, a lighter, and a bucket. We were able to enjoy them in the parking lot. It made us very happy!

    Great potential for growth.

The riverside open-air onsen can be accessed from the river while wearing swimsuits, making it a delightful experience for children. The shuttle service to the starting point of the Kumano Kodo walk was also very helpful. The room is a standard ryokan style, and meals include traditional buffet and ryokan cuisine. The service of drinking onsen water was a first-time experience. Since there are few dining options nearby, dining at the accommodation seems necessary; offering in-room dining as an option might be appealing, though it may be challenging due to staff shortages.

    An authentic open-air bath

First night of the Kumano trip. The building has some age but is clean. The Room also feels aged but maintains cleanliness. Both dinner and breakfast are buffet-style, featuring many local dishes, which were excellent. The grilled sweetfish at dinner was outstanding, though the size of the fish served gradually got smaller—likely because they started with the best ones first, so it's recommended to go early for them. The tea porridge was also delicious. The open-air bath truly felt like a bath under the open sky and was amazing. You can even enter the river directly from there, which was incredibly refreshing—a fantastic experience overall! For bathing wear: men have easy-to-wear half-pants with strings; women have kimono-style wear available in one free size only—it seemed a bit loose for my wife. Since swimsuits are allowed as well, next time we plan to wear swimsuits underneath and enjoy playing in the river too!

    Enjoyed the riverside open-air bath.

The room had a mountain lodge style, and I appreciated the wooden ambiance throughout the hallway and interior. There was a designated area to remove shoes before entering the room, which was convenient, especially after hiking with dirty shoes. I found it thoughtful to have this space right after stepping off the elevator. I enjoyed a relaxing bath during a less crowded time. The outdoor bath provided bathing garments, allowing me to soak comfortably without any concerns. At times, I even had the bath all to myself. The privacy was excellent, and I could enjoy the refreshing breeze by the riverside or bask in the morning sunlight—it was truly delightful. For dinner at the buffet, I savored fish shabu-shabu cooked in a small pot on my table and grilled meat on an iron plate—both were delicious. The room faced the mountain side, so there wasn’t much of a view from my window. However, since I spent time walking outside after checking in, enjoying a bath, and dining afterward—the view didn’t matter much for me; it was more than sufficient as is. Additionally, there wasn’t any noticeable sulfur smell. After spending an active day sightseeing and walking around extensively, this stay allowed me to fully relax and rejuvenate. Thank you very much!

    Relaxing Onsen

I stayed for two nights with breakfast included. The best part was the delicious food. I usually don't eat breakfast (just coffee), but the rice was so good that I had three bowls in the morning. Although my main purpose for staying was to enjoy the Onsen, the food ended up being my favorite part. Thank you! The second-best part was the Onsen. It was soothing, relaxing, and completely rejuvenating. I only used the indoor bath this time, but it was more than enough. Next time, I'd like to try the outdoor bath (river bath). **Room** There were some tissue scraps near the trash bin, so I'll give 4 stars for cleanliness; however, everything else met my expectations and I am satisfied overall. **Service** At checkout, I wasn't aware of the Hot Spring Tax and asked about it when billed—it caught me off guard a bit. The response felt slightly curt at that moment; however, when assisting another guest after me (a male customer), they seemed much friendlier with a smile on their face. It made me feel a little sad but also made me reflect on whether my question might have been bothersome due to my lack of knowledge about such charges—I apologize if that caused any discomfort! Perhaps clearer information during check-in or visible signage would have helped avoid confusion—but it became a learning experience for me. Overall though—this is an accommodation I'd love to visit again someday! Thank you very much!

Open-air bath by the riverside with a perfect starry sky

Revisited after 40 years, unable to forget the charm of Kawayu. The open-air bath by the river offered a breathtaking view of the starry sky, with Orion shining brightly overhead. The all-you-can-eat hot pot dinner was satisfying. However, the breakfast buffet was average, lacking standout dishes and overly crowded with no available seating. It would have been helpful to be guided to an empty seat at the entrance.

    Please make improvements.

I had seen a news story about digging a hole with a shovel on the riverbank and warming up in the Onsen that collected there, which was one of the reasons I chose this Ryokan. Since it was winter, there were makeshift huts on the riverbank, and everyone was using the bathing clothes rented by the Ryokan to enter the river Onsen. What was disappointing was the food. Dinner was in a large dining hall with a group, and although we had two different items, everything else was buffet-style, and we lined up with the group to take and eat the food. Breakfast was exactly the same buffet meal as the group, and honestly, many of the items were disappointing in taste, at a level that would be acceptable for a group. We paid a decent amount, so it was very disappointing. Since the reception was the same as the group, I thought it could have been handled a bit differently, and our Room was on the lower floors with the group guests, not on the upper floors with fewer Rooms. Yet, when the elevator opened, the hallway was pitch dark, and the staff hurriedly went to turn on the lights. There are two Ryokans of the same chain built next to each other, but they are not in operation, and I wished they could at least be divided into two buildings for group and individual guests.

Together with our feelings for Kumano.

I visited during my pilgrimage to Kumano. Upon check-in, I was guided to my room, where I could see the Otogawa River and the open-air bath, which was very soothing. I quickly headed to the bath. The bath had a sulfur scent, with some mineral deposits, and the water had a slight viscosity. It permeated my body after walking the Kumano Kodo. In ancient times, it was said that after visiting Kumano Hongu, people would bathe in the onsen of Yunomine, Watarase, and Kawayu to absorb good energy into their souls. Indeed, the open-air bath allowed me to feel the air of Kumano, which was wonderful. The refreshing breeze soothed the fatigue from walking the Kumano pilgrimage, and I was able to relax while reflecting on the Kumano Kodo we walked and the thoughts of people from ancient times. The hospitality and meals were satisfying, with a buffet breakfast, considering the price. The number of rooms is reasonable, and since it's mostly self-service, it's a good property if you keep that in mind when staying. There are various onsen areas around, but considering the onsen, it was a property I would like to visit again. I will visit again.

It felt expensive for No Meals Included. It seems to mainly cater to group customers, so without dinner, there is no time adjustment for laying out the futon, and breakfast is also noisy and rushed, leaving no sense of staying at a traditional Ryokan. However, the Onsen is good.
