What a great hot spring!
It was such a good Onsen that they even sell the bath salts. The building is old, but the garden and large public bath were well maintained. The riverside areas and the outdoor parking lot are also places guests see, so they felt a bit less cared for compared with the rest. Our Room was a double-bed room we managed to book at the last minute; it had no clock, desk, chair, or luggage rack—being able to stay was enough, but it was slightly disappointing. Drinks in the first-floor lobby ranged from amazake and lemonade to sake and wine, and for coffee lovers there were also plenty of enthusiast-friendly services, including being able to choose your beans.

Disappointing breakfast
The lobby and hallways were luxurious, clean, and very satisfying. The drink service was also great. Since this was a pet-friendly Room, I felt it was understandable that it was older and the cleaning wasn’t perfect. The bath area was spacious, and the open-air bath water quality really felt like an Onsen, which I enjoyed. However, the breakfast was terrible. They offered a rice tasting, but there were hardly any side dishes to go with the rice. If they want guests to compare different rice varieties, the ochazuke corner is unnecessary. There were only seaweed, not-very-tasty grilled fish, natto, and an Onsen egg as items that actually went well with rice. It was at a Business Hotel level—very disappointing.

It’s disappointing that the breakfast has changed.
As a repeat guest, I stayed with the one-night stay including two meals plan. Dinner was as good as expected, but breakfast was disappointing. It used to be served individually on set trays, but it has changed to a buffet with fewer items. I understand the staffing shortage, but I would like the service to match the price.

We stayed here to celebrate a birthday.
We visited on a family trip to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The parking lot in front of the main entrance was full, but we were able to park in the guest-only area as there was space available. The Onsen in the open-air bath was wonderful, and the meals were packed with delicious Niigata dishes and plenty of sashimi, which our whole family enjoyed. Unfortunately, it seemed there was no live piano performance that day, but another guest played beautifully, and we had a lovely time with coffee. We would like to visit again in a different season. All of the staff were very pleasant—thank you very much.

An Elegant Moment with Piano Music
After dinner, we enjoyed an elegant evening listening to live piano music. The duet performance by two pianists was especially wonderful, with power and richness in the sound. They also played a duet again in the morning, which made for a truly relaxing time.

Excellent hospitality and service.
From a distance, the exterior looks old and you might think, “Is this the place?”, but the inside has been nicely renovated. The service and hospitality were also very good. The shop in the morning opens late, so I thought I could buy souvenirs the next day, but we left early and ended up not being able to buy anything. We traveled with our dog, and although we couldn’t take our dog to meals, the in-Room crate was spacious. We put our own bed inside it, and perhaps because of travel fatigue, our dog waited quietly. Thanks to that, we were able to relax and enjoy dinner as well as the hot stone spa and baths.

Suitable for families with small children.
We were able to enjoy the Onsen as we were provided with a baby bath for our younger child who still wears diapers. However, it was unfortunate that the water in the bath was too hot, making it less enjoyable for our older child. The meals were plentiful and almost too much to finish. There were few pre-made dishes, and everything was carefully prepared and delicious.

The breakfast was extremely satisfying.
The breakfast featuring a comparison of Koshihikari rice varieties came with plenty of side dishes, and I ended up having four refills! I was amazed at how much the taste of Koshihikari differs depending on its origin. The soft-serve ice cream from the Iwamuro Coffee shop was also incredibly delicious. Be sure to try it!

The bath, meals, and piano were excellent.
Attracted by a JR poster, my family and I visited Niigata. As expected, this accommodation was quite crowded during the Golden Week period, but both the bath and dining areas were not overly packed, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable stay. The bath was excellent, especially the stone sauna, and the meals exceeded our expectations in quality. What stood out most was the piano performance held at night and in the morning. A very charming young lady played for a total of three hours across both sessions, delighting us with wonderful music while sharing enjoyable stories and taking requests from guests. It became a truly memorable experience for us. Thank you very much!

It was a wonderful accommodation.
We stayed for one night as a family of four with a breakfast-included plan. The facility was clean, and we enjoyed free drinks in the lobby while listening to live piano performances in the morning and evening. The onsen had excellent water quality, leaving our skin smooth for about two days. There was also a small garden where we could relax after bathing. Since nearby restaurants are quite small, we recommend reserving early if you plan to have dinner outside.

Stayed for one night...
Stayed for one night with No Meals Included. The open-air Onsen was amazing. It was great to enjoy the Onsen without worrying about meal times. I think this is a very family-friendly accommodation.

Your beloved dog will be satisfied too.
I stayed with my beloved Toy Poodle this time. Compared to other accommodations, it was reasonably priced, so I didn't have high expectations, but it turned out to be a highly satisfying stay in every aspect. In the very spacious lobby, you can enjoy live piano performances (which are of surprisingly high quality) while sipping on a welcome drink. The plan apparently included access to a stone sauna, and I was able to use it once for free. The stone sauna seems to have been added later as it's located on the opposite side of the lobby from the bath area. You rinse off in the bath area, change into Samui wear, and then head over to the stone sauna. The pet-friendly room was also very clean and well-maintained, making for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was included; while there were fewer side dishes available, trying different varieties of Niigata rice was incredibly delicious! If I visit Niigata again, I would love to stay at this hotel!

The hot spring was really nice, but the entire facility felt old.

An inn I want to visit again
My mother's hometown is Nagaoka, and we stayed at Hoho for one night for a memorial service. I am grateful for the warm hospitality of the staff. My brother's family and I, a total of six people, stayed there. The food was delicious, and I would like to stay at Hoho again when I visit Niigata.
