    I didn’t do enough r...

    I didn’t do enough research and ended up making the wrong choice. This Hotel seems geared toward families with children, seniors, group travelers, and inbound tourists; I think couples, solo travelers, or groups of women may regret staying here. It felt crowded everywhere. The large public bath was so packed that I had to walk back and forth several times just to find an open washing station, and at that point I no longer felt like going to the directly connected Sky Garden Spa. Dining was similar: it was hard to find an available seat, and the buffet area was chaotic, with large numbers of guests carrying heaped trays and moving around as if they were about to bump into each other. This is definitely not a Hotel for those seeking atmosphere, charm, or comfort.

    Just one thing.

    I’ve traveled to Akan several times, but this was my first stay at this Accommodation. It has the feel of a long-established property, and the staff were calm, courteous, and kind. I was satisfied with both breakfast and dinner. The Onsen was very pleasant as well, but the sauna was too hot—right when I stepped in, I burned the soles of my feet. I had been looking forward to it, so it was a bit disappointing.

    As it’s a large Reso...

    As it’s a large Resort Hotel, it may be unavoidable, but it was a very noisy Hotel with tour groups and all sorts of guests. I don’t like buffet dining, so I chose no meals, but there aren’t many places to eat nearby—please be aware. The Room had a view of Lake Akan, and the sink area and other facilities had been renovated, which was nice. Still, since it’s a resort area this may be expected, but for the price… it’s best suited for those who want a lively stay.

    The Onsen, bath, and...

    The Onsen, bath, and meals were all excellent, and my children even said one night wasn’t enough. However, when I tried to use the toilet in the Room, the ventilation fan and an add-on washlet seemed to hit something and made a loud rattling noise, so we ended up using the shared toilets in the building, which was inconvenient and disappointing.

    Without inbound tourists

    A Chinese tour group was being very loud and disruptive. Even though we’re told there are fewer groups, they still show up. If inbound tourism returns to normal levels, it may be safer not to stay here. The Facility is aging, and it feels like the focus is only on the meals. That’s the fate of an old large Hotel.

    The room was very comfortable, and both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of options. The hot spring was wonderful, and the biggest surprise was the Sky Hot Spring—it was truly delightful.

    An Accommodation You'll Want to Visit Again and Again

    We were excited to see what changes came with the new management. It has become an even better accommodation with wonderful staff, making it a place we want to visit again! Although the facility shows its age, the staff's attentiveness more than made up for it, creating a fantastic stay. We were allowed into our room earlier than scheduled, and their polite language and care at the dining area were exceptional. We will visit again—thank you in advance for your hospitality!

    The significant shor...

    The significant shortage of hotel staff and the inability of staff to even greet guests were concerning. Perhaps due to such management, the manners of some guests also seemed lacking. For instance, some guests left luggage carts in front of their rooms, and they remained there overnight without being moved. Seeing multiple carts left in hallways, which serve as evacuation routes during emergencies, was alarming and raised safety concerns.

    It was great!

    Since it was our wedding anniversary, we were considering dining locally, but my wife expressed a desire to visit an Onsen. Although we booked an affordable plan, upon arrival, we were accommodated in the Shangri-La section, which made my wife very happy! The dinner had a wide variety of dishes and was absolutely satisfying!

    I stayed here during my trip to Ainu Kotan, a place I once visited on a school trip. The facility and meals were absolutely satisfying. Although the parking lot was a bit far, the staff provided shuttle service without any wait. On that day, there were students on their school trip as well, which brought back nostalgic memories for me. Thank you for providing such an enjoyable time!

    Spectacular Sky Spa

    The Sky Spa was amazing! Having bathing clothes available was very convenient, allowing us to enjoy it as a family. The sunset in the evening and the starry sky at night were absolutely breathtaking. Located right next to Lake Akan, it provided a peaceful and calming atmosphere. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes and was delightful. While many staff members from overseas were working there, which added cultural diversity, I did notice some perfume scents that stood out slightly. However, everyone’s hospitality was wonderful, making for an excellent experience overall! Access to Kamuy Lumina is just a 5-minute walk away—very convenient! We were extremely satisfied with our stay!

    A Truly Peaceful Time

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay. The Facility has a slightly old impression, but I was able to relax and enjoy my time. The view from the Room was stunning, with a wide-open view of Lake Akan. At night, I went on the night walk, and it was convenient to purchase tickets smoothly at the Hotel on the same day. The location was also close to the Hotel, making it very comfortable. The rooftop observation spa offered not only an amazing view but also perfect weather during my visit, allowing me to spend truly pleasant and happy moments. All staff members in every section seemed professional; even the cleaning staff in the bath area were thorough in their work. Since I stayed for multiple nights, I left a note requesting specific cleaning in my Room, which they addressed properly—much appreciated! While all staff were excellent, what stood out most were the restaurant's foreign staff members who worked efficiently with great posture and professionalism—truly impressive! I do feel that if some areas of the Facility could be brightened up or improved aesthetically (such as making souvenir displays more appealing), it would enhance its charm further and encourage purchases—it feels like a missed opportunity! Overall though, I had an enjoyable stay and am grateful for everything! Thank you very much!

    The room's facilities are too outdated.

    I chose this accommodation because I was attracted to the ability to specify a lake view from the room and enjoy the Sky Spa, compared to Akankohan Yukunosato Tsuruga. However, I ended up feeling it was a mistake. I stayed for two nights in a Japanese-style room on the lake side of Shangri-La Hall. The view from the room was excellent, and we enjoyed the Sky Spa with its great scenery as a family. The welcome sweets and drinks were delightful. The elevator was relatively quick and comfortable to use. At the exit of the Onsen, there were relaxing areas with water, juice, and ice pops available. However, there were various types of guests staying at this accommodation. During dinner near our table, there were people with tattoos which startled me. It wasn’t an atmosphere where one could dine calmly either. We went to the buffet venue as a group of seven but were surprised when we were seated separately at tables for three and four people. The bathroom in our room didn’t have a trash bin. There was only one outlet available which was already occupied by power for the toilet; using devices like hair irons required unplugging it first from that outlet in order to use them elsewhere. The facilities felt outdated—the washbasin had cracks while faucets showed wear such as exposed screws on cold-water handles along with visible limescale buildup instead being modern single-lever mixers shown otherwise depicted online images provided beforehand too disappointingly so overall experience lacked satisfaction expected initially hoped-for here instead! If you're debating between this place versus Akankohan Yukunosato Tsuruga specifically—choosing latter might offer more peaceful reliable stay imagined better suited preferences accordingly though note haven’t personally compared directly firsthand myself admittedly just speculating based upon impressions alone shared above contextually speaking nonetheless worth considering alternative options further research-wise perhaps ultimately deciding final choice informed basis beyond solely relying IKYU.com listings exclusively moving forward future trips planning purposes alike!

    The Sky Garden Spa is excellent, but the air conditioning does not work.

    Located by Lake Akan, this hotel offers stunning views from the guest rooms. The rooftop Sky Garden Spa provides an incredible experience under a star-filled sky. Although I usually dislike buffets, this hotel's buffet impressed me with its wide variety of dishes and excellent flavors. The Facility shows some signs of aging, but the guest rooms (except for the bathrooms) have been renovated and are well-maintained with thorough cleaning. However, the air conditioning is a major issue. The entire building, including the guest rooms, was uncomfortably hot. I couldn't stop sweating in my room or even in the rest area near the large public bath due to excessive heat. When I asked at reception about lowering the temperature, they explained that it was centrally controlled and could not be adjusted individually. I also inquired about renting a fan but was told it wasn't possible. While I understand that addressing this issue may be challenging, given rising temperatures across The whole country, it would be appreciated if at least guest rooms could provide a more comfortable environment. Excluding the air conditioning problem, I'd rate this hotel 4 stars!

    Fun for families

    We stayed here during our trip around eastern Hokkaido. This is a large Onsen facility hotel located in a typical tourist area. It is probably the most spacious and beautiful hotel in the region. We chose a high-floor room with a view of the lakeside, but upon entering, we noticed an issue with the sink. After calling the front desk, they promptly addressed it and changed our room. The highlight of this hotel is undoubtedly its extensive dining menu. The buffet itself is luxurious, but what stands out are dishes like Genghis Khan (grilled lamb), hot pot, and seasoned rice served individually at your table so you can cook and enjoy them yourself. Ordinary dishes like roast beef or chicken pale in comparison! While the taste might be average for some, the satisfaction level is exceptional! If you're visiting as a tourist, even just coming for the food would be worth it—highly recommended! Many staff members working in the dining area were from Asia, and their efficiency and excellent service were truly impressive.

    The hotel has a reas...

    The hotel has a reasonable price but exudes an atmosphere of former luxury. Even now, the large Onsen and the rooftop bath under the night sky were absolutely fantastic. Perhaps because it was summer, there were few people outside. The Ainu Kotan wood carvings, including impressive pieces like owls with chicks, were abundant and remarkable.

    The buffet offers a wide variety of dishes.

    We stayed as a family of three. Although it was a bit noisy due to many foreign tour guests, the view from the room facing Lake Akan was fantastic. The building feels slightly old overall, but it was well-cleaned and there were no issues. Both dinner and breakfast buffets had a wide variety of dishes, and we were very satisfied with the quality. Considering the accommodation fee, the meals seemed to be exceptionally well-prepared.

    Enjoy delightful meals.

    I used this during my trip to Akan. Since there were no dining options around Lake Akan, I chose this meal-inclusive Plan. The buffet for dinner and breakfast offered a variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, making the meals enjoyable. The room was spacious despite its age, offering a great view of Lake Akan, which was wonderful.

    The toilet's bidet in the room was broken, and some TV channels were not working, which significantly lowered my satisfaction. The meals were served as a buffet, but the large number of guests made it difficult to enjoy. I don't think I will use this accommodation again in the future.

    Incomplete

    The twin room was different from what I imagined. Instead of chairs and a table by the window, there was a cozy raised seating area. As someone used to sitting on chairs, I felt uncomfortable and unsettled. The room itself had an elaborate design when looking at details like the ceiling—perhaps it’s a building from the bubble era? The room key was not card-style, so I had to carry it with me when going out, which was inconvenient. I considered leaving it at the front desk but wasn’t sure if they would hold it for me, so I carried it around instead. Perhaps I should have asked at the front desk. As for meals, both fish and meat dishes were not tasty at all. The ingredients didn’t seem good quality, and some Western-style dishes had strange flavors that didn’t work for me. However, the Japanese cuisine was delicious overall—though the sashimi cuts weren’t great quality either. I did not use the Onsen public bath facilities, so I cannot comment on them. The staff at reception provided service that was neither particularly good nor bad.

    This is my second stay.

    This was my second stay, with the first visit being in April. Previously, there seemed to be more international guests, but this time it appeared that there were more elderly guests on package tours. I stayed in the Crystal Wing without a view designation, facing the mountain or parking lot side. While having a room with a view might be preferable for some, the views from the Sky Spa and outdoor areas are clearly superior, so even on the mountain side, you can fully enjoy Lake Akan. The room had an unconventional layout with its sofa and bed arrangement. There were small insects typical of summer; however, as noted in the room's information about being surrounded by nature at this resort hotel, it was understandable and not an issue. The Sky Spa remains as wonderful as ever and felt surprisingly uncrowded—this alone made for a very satisfying experience. Dinner and breakfast offered plenty of variety to enjoy; however, since all dining areas are concentrated in one location, some crowding is inevitable. Although seating seemed limited at times, additional tables were set up in lobby areas when needed so finding a seat wasn’t an issue. One minor disappointment was that there were single-person seats facing walls separated by partitions within the dining area. Compared to other sections of the dining space, these felt noticeably isolated. Expanding these spaces slightly might make them feel more inviting for solo diners who choose to sit there comfortably.

    The worst Hotel

    Checked in with 3 people, but the room was only prepared for 2. The front desk service was unsatisfactory. Although additional towels were requested later, they were worn out. The futon was not laid out, and parking required walking a long distance. The facility's air conditioning was ineffective even at maximum, and we had to use a fan. The faucet dripped as if it hadn't been repaired. Meals were served with paper cups, and the staff seemed overwhelmed with cleaning up. Instead of enjoying the location, we wanted to leave as soon as possible. It was the worst trip to Hokkaido ever.

    The service and view are excellent, but...

    At check-in, I was deeply impressed when the staff at the counter proactively suggested a dinner time that would not overlap with a group booking. It was thoughtful and made me happy even before I mentioned it. However, for a new building, the Facility feels outdated and some parts are broken. Water seeps from under the unit bath floor, soaking socks; the toilet flush handle spins loosely (though it still works); and the air conditioning is weak—there are quite a few issues to mention... The meals and service were excellent, so could something be done about the Facility? If renovated, I might consider returning.

    It was great to stay.

    I had a great stay. The room was on the top floor, making it convenient to access the open-air sky bath. The meals offered a wide variety of options, so much that it was hard to choose. The only downside was that there were fewer types of baths than expected, which felt a bit lacking. However, I was very satisfied overall. Thank you very much!

    The Sky Spa exceeded expectations with its excellence.

    This time, I booked through IKYU.com for a one-night stay with two meals on a weekday. I stayed in the Crystal Wing, though I believe the Shangri-La Wing is newer. The Room was a standard twin room. The bathroom was a compact unit bath, but since I mostly used the large public Onsen, it wasn’t an issue. The toilet was also part of the unit bath and compact but equipped with a washlet. The Sky Spa prohibits photography, but the sunset over Lake Akan was stunning and worth visiting just for that view. While the open-air bath in the large public Onsen is semi-open-air, you can borrow simple swimwear at the Sky Spa to fully enjoy its atmosphere. The meals offered an overwhelming variety of options that left me indecisive. It was refreshing to cook dishes like hot pot, kamameshi rice pots, and Genghis Khan-style barbecue at each table ourselves. Overall, I was satisfied; however, as it gets crowded with many guests rushing to eat at once, perhaps reducing dish variety and splitting service into two sessions could be better. Considering it was a weekday stay in April and given its price point, it exceeded my expectations in terms of satisfaction. Personally, I prefer winter stays as they allow me to enjoy Onsen more thoroughly. On this occasion though there were many inbound tourists creating a lively atmosphere despite being on a weekday in April!

    It was excellent.

    Dinner and bath were very satisfying. Although it was a one-night, two-day stay, we visited the Sky Spa four times. However, when we went to the Sky Spa at 5 AM as it was supposed to open at that time, there was a sign saying "Closed" placed in front of the door. Other guests also removed their spa attire or entered the Onsen like us out of necessity. About 20 minutes later, another guest checked on the spa and moved the sign away. My husband and son waited quite a while at the spa area for us; it seems that on the men's side, the sign had been properly removed earlier. This part was slightly disappointing, so I rated it 4 stars. Also, our Room was unusually hot, so we kept the window open throughout our stay.

    Meals are...

    Sorry for being a bit harsh, but I didn't feel the same excitement as last year's "The food and bath were amazing!!" The bath was still good, but I thought, "Huh? The food (buffet)... everything used to be delicious..." (disappointed) However, I think I will use it again when I return home!! Additional note: In autumn? But it's a hot Hotel without air conditioning. Please consider this if you are sensitive to heat!
