An Onsen Ryokan with a Noticeable Sense of Age

The Room was clean, but there were many insects on the balcony, so I didn’t feel like going out. There were also stains on the tatami mats, and the Hotel overall felt old. The Onsen water quality was excellent, and the cave bath was very nice. However, it was disappointing to see a lot of hair in the washing area. Towels were provided in the Room, but I wasn’t sure whether extra towels could be borrowed. Also, depending on how you wear it, the bathing garment for the cave bath may expose your lower body, so please be careful. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, but the portions were quite small. Since meals were served in a banquet hall, in-room dining might have been more relaxing. As it’s an older Onsen Ryokan, some aspects may be unavoidable, but overall it felt a bit underwhelming.

    The worst.

This is the worst Hotel—I strongly recommend not staying at Ogawa Onsen Hotel IKYU. The food was terrible. I never want to go again; it was the worst Hotel I have ever stayed at.

    A Fulfilling Two-Day Stay

It was a very fulfilling two days. The Room was spacious and comfortable. The open-air bath and the large public bath were both roomy, with great views, and the Onsen itself was very relaxing. We only had breakfast, but it was the perfect amount and incredibly delicious. It’s also close to sightseeing spots such as Unazuki Onsen, making it a great location. I’d love to stay here again.

This Accommodation is especially memorable for its excellent Onsen.

All staff were courteous and greeted us with warm smiles. In the spacious lobby, kimono obi sashes were laid over the sofas, creating an elegant Hokuriku atmosphere. The open-air bath was wonderful, with naturally flowing Onsen water, and I could soak while feeling grateful for nature’s gifts. However, horseflies (Orolro) may come at times, so I used the insect spray provided. Extra caution is needed during the hot season from late July onward. On the way to the open-air bath, I was surprised to see Onsen water bubbling up from the wall and flowing down. The large public bath’s hinoki cypress tub was pleasantly lukewarm—so comfortable that I could have stayed in it forever. Being able to enjoy an Onsen that has flowed continuously for 400 years while taking in unchanged natural scenery truly felt like a luxurious moment.

I’d love to visit again in another season.

I stayed here in March while some snow was still on the ground. Despite the remote, mountainous location, the Facility was excellent. The Onsen was wonderful, and the food was outstanding. I noticed a few stink bugs, but they didn’t cause any particular issues. We stayed in a Japanese-Western style room; the tatami area was spacious and very relaxing. Early in the morning, while enjoying the view from the window, we spotted a troop of monkeys on a steep slope across the river, which was a delight to watch. Away from everyday noise and bustle, we had a truly pleasant time. Above all, for this level of satisfaction, the value for money is exceptional. It felt like an Accommodation where you can really sense how hard all the staff work. Thank you very much.

    It was excellent.

I stayed here during my trip to Toyama. The Room was very clean, and the bath was fed directly from the hot spring source, leaving my skin feeling smooth. The meals were generous in portion size, and I was very satisfied. The Hotel staff were also very kind, and I truly hope to stay again if I have the chance.

    Yellowtail (Japanese amberjack)

The bath was excellent. The Onsen was wonderful—warming me to the core and leaving my skin smooth. What disappointed me was the yellowtail. I ordered extra yellowtail sashimi, but it had a fishy smell. The yellowtail shabu-shabu in the course also still had an odor, and I honestly couldn’t say it was tasty. I had high expectations, so it was very disappointing. If you can’t provide truly fresh fish, I think you should decline additional orders. The grilled yellowtail collar was very delicious!

Hotel Ogawa for the first time in decades

It’s been quite a while since I last stayed at Hotel Ogawa. I had made a Reservation last year, but had to Cancel the Reservation because my wife came down with the flu. This time, we came to enjoy what we missed before. There is a large public bath and a rock bath. The outdoor bath isn’t available in winter, but we still enjoyed it 충분ly. The meals were very delicious, and breakfast was also great. Next time, I’d like to visit during the season when the outdoor bath is open.

I would love to visit again in the summer.

The staff were all very kind. As it is a historic Onsen, the Room and building are as expected, but the bath was spacious, and the water was excellent. I hope to enjoy bathing in the outdoor bath that is currently closed next time. Meals were served in a large hall with individual tables for each Room, and I was very satisfied with the whole red snow crab I had been looking forward to.

It may be suitable for advanced users.

The Onsen's large public bath was family-friendly and easy to access with children. The open-air bath had no washing area and was located right by the river, offering a thrilling experience during heavy rain. The water quality felt quite rugged. The cave bath is a 7-minute walk from the Hotel, situated in the mountains. The path leading there was well-paved and clean, but there were signs of wildlife such as animal droppings and occasional loud noises for deterrence, making it feel wild and more suitable for advanced visitors. Bathing attire can be borrowed from the Hotel, with separate changing rooms for men and women; however, it is a mixed-gender bath. It felt both wild and mystical—a place detached from worldly concerns—ideal for seasoned Onsen enthusiasts. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. They even prepared activities like shooting games reminiscent of festival stalls for children to enjoy at night. Some staff members working under the "Otetsutabi" system served us during meals—what a wonderful initiative! As for dining, everything seemed well-organized. We especially enjoyed "Kurobekyo," a delicious Japanese sake!

    The hospitality was exceptional.

Thank you for the wonderful hospitality. The meals were served in just the right portions and were delicious. The variety of baths was impressive, and we were able to relax thoroughly. This is a Ryokan we would love to visit again. Both the futon and room temperature were very comfortable, allowing our family to create wonderful memories together. Thank you very much!

Accommodation with a Stunning Starry Sky View

The onsen options were numerous, which is why I made the reservation, and it exceeded my expectations. The room was spacious and clean. Seeing the Milky Way and multiple shooting stars from the balcony was truly moving—I regret not preparing for stargazing in advance. All the staff were kind, and I appreciated their attention to allergies. I enjoyed plenty of white shrimp dishes. Amenities were well-prepared, including a complimentary face pack gift. The option to choose a yukata made it a delightful accommodation for women. The onsen featured natural free-flowing hot spring water with an impressive volume. Rental bathing suits are available for the open-air bath experience.

Hospitality that satisfies all five senses

A hot spring village surrounded by nature. Clear and polite explanations. Exquisite cuisine utilizing local ingredients. The open-air bath, located a short distance from the property, allowed guests to soak while watching a family of monkeys grooming each other leisurely. It was a moving experience. On the way back, a family of monkeys (20-30) nonchalantly saw us off by the roadside. The monkeys showed no signs of aggression, allowing us to pass by safely. It became a memorable experience, making us want to visit the hot spring village again. Due to the season, unexpected insects (stink bugs) also greeted us at the property in nature. A quick call to the front desk brought the "Stink Bug Busters," a team of staff who efficiently dealt with the situation. Their efficiency was impressive. It was a hot spring village that satisfied all my senses. It has become one of the properties I want to visit again.

    Disappointing!

The accommodation price did not match the level of satisfaction. Especially, the meals were poor (small portions)!

The hot spring was nice. It was a calm and quiet inn, and I enjoyed the delicious meals. I would like to stay for a hot spring cure.
