    What happened?

This was our second stay, following last year, but the quality of the buffet food had declined. At ¥6,600 per person, I understood it was peak season, but even my child said, “What happened?” Probably not again.

Kusatsu in summer is the best.

We stayed for one night and two days with our grandchild. As mentioned in the Reviews, the building and the Room itself are indeed old, but everything was properly cleaned and there were no issues. With the all-you-can-play passport, we fully enjoyed bowling, the pool, craft-making, festival-style games, quizzes, a stamp rally, and more. The free shuttle bus from the Hotel to Yubatake at night was extremely helpful; it was my first time seeing the Yubatake illumination, and I was surprised by how many tourists were there. Even though it was summer, walking around Yubatake felt pleasantly cool—almost a little chilly—which was wonderful. The next day we used the Hotel bus again because I wanted my grandchild to enjoy street food and try yumomi (hot spring water stirring). I had only ever visited Kusatsu in winter before, so this summer trip was a first for me. While news reports talked about extreme heat in Tokyo, I was amazed at how cool and comfortable Kusatsu is in summer. At night we didn’t need air conditioning in our Room; it even felt slightly chilly. Summer in Kusatsu is great.\nThe meals were delicious, and everyone at the front desk, each reception counter, and the shop—especially the international staff—was very polite and pleasant. Every staff member provided excellent service; I was truly impressed. This is a highly recommended Hotel for families with children as well. We would love to visit again. One drawback is that the Hotel is so large that it’s easy to get lost—especially when trying to find the baths; as noted in Reviews, we got lost too. Overall though, it was a wonderful Hotel. Thank you very much.

I stayed in the Wing Building. The Room was spacious and well cleaned. As mentioned in the Reviews, all of the staff were very kind, and I had a comfortable stay. The buffet was also great, with dishes being replenished promptly. Thank you very much.

The free Wi‑Fi was extremely slow and basically unusable. I planned to watch videos on my tablet, but I couldn’t use it.

All the staff are very kind. Wonderful.

On arrival, check-in was friendly. The staff guiding the parking was also very kind and helpful. The service at checkout was good as well. 1. There are plenty of luggage carts (like the ones in supermarkets), which is convenient. 2. The building is quite large, so it may be tough for guests with mobility issues. 3. The large public bath feels small for the size of the Hotel. 4. I think the meals are delicious. 5. The Onsen is, as expected, very good. Points of concern: 1. The TV is small considering the Room size. 2. Both the building and Facilities feel old. 3. The balcony is extremely dirty—so dirty that I wouldn’t want to use it at all. 4.The shower temperature adjustment is not automatic . 5.The washbasin uses an older-style faucet where water runs when you push the lever down; nowadays most faucets stop when you push the lever down. Considering the price, it feels overpriced overall .

Satisfied with the table tennis facilities

We were very satisfied with the Onsen, and especially with the table tennis for our children. Our children felt there were not enough signs. Also, although we had reserved breakfast in advance, we would like to see the 30-minute wait improved.

    The staff were kind ...

The staff were kind and cheerful, which was great, but the in-Room bath felt old and the bathroom drainage was poor, so I would not like to stay in this Room again. I would prefer a higher-priced option with a cleaner Room, such as one in the Chateau building.

    Family Trip

I stayed for a 2-night New Year trip. The building is old, and it has been a long time since I stayed at a Hotel that is not barrier-free by today’s standards. To get to the pool, you have to go up and down several steep flights of stairs. One of the dining venues is in the basement and can only be accessed by stairs, which was difficult. The food was acceptable. With a Multiple Night Stay, there is no housekeeping or laundry service; they only leave bath towels in the hallway the next day, and the room is not cleaned. If that’s the case, it would be nice to receive something in return, such as vouchers usable within the property, but there are no such services. I did not feel that a Multiple Night Stay offered good value.

Stayed here after several years. This time, I stayed in the Wing building. The room was comfortable in size and cleanliness. The onsen can be enjoyed leisurely if you avoid peak times. The dinner buffet felt a bit less impressive than before, but the fresh vegetables at breakfast were very delicious. I also used the shuttle service to Yubatake. I look forward to visiting again!

    Highly Satisfied

We stayed for 2 nights as a family of three. Our second-grade child thoroughly enjoyed the pool, athletics, forest walks, and exploring the Onsen town! Next time, we want to stay for a 3-night trip!

    Second stay

This was our second stay as a family with two elementary school children. Our first visit was in winter, so experiencing the Hotel in summer felt refreshing. Despite the rainy weather, the pool, Onsen, and indoor amusements were plentiful and very helpful. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style, but it would be nice to have a wider selection of teas. Overall, it was a satisfying trip. Thank you very much!

    A Hotel Worth Visiting Again

We stayed for three days and two nights with my husband, daughter, and grandchild. We have visited several times over the past 30 years, and this was our third visit with our grandchild, including during the pandemic. Every time we stay, we are impressed by how kind and welcoming the staff are. Although the facility has been around for over 40 years, the rooms are impeccably clean with no unpleasant odors at all. This time, we noticed that the breakfast and dinner buffet had improved in both variety and taste—it was absolutely delicious! The restaurant "Patio" is spacious with beautiful greenery visible through its windows; we love its atmosphere. It would be even better if there were takeaway coffee available after breakfast. On our first day, the indoor bath was too hot to enter despite being labeled as lukewarm water; however, we enjoyed a relaxing soak in the outdoor bath instead. On the second day, we were able to use both baths comfortably. It seems that many families like ours—spanning three generations—choose to stay here. For those booking accommodations with children, I highly recommend opting for a resort passport package! There are so many activities like bowling or swimming that kids will enjoy; two nights and three days might not feel long enough! The staff also respond flexibly to various needs during your stay. Even after checking out of our accommodation on departure day, we were allowed to enjoy activities until early afternoon. We created wonderful memories with our grandchild during this trip. We look forward to staying again in the future—thank you very much!

Being old makes cleanliness even more important.

Checked in and thought, "What?" A few strands of hair, snack crumbs here and there, random plastic pieces... Is this place even cleaned? And the futon laid out for dinner also had hair on it. Is it because there are too many rooms? A staff shortage? Lack of training in room cleaning? This is a Hotel, right? Or did I just crash at a friend's house? The wear and tear, with rips and stains here and there, is understandable considering the price. But cleaning is something that can be improved with effort. The front desk and staff service were fine, and the kids were thrilled with the events, spa, and bowling, but beyond that, it was just okay. Not a Hotel I’d want to stay at with someone special.

Great Hotel for Families with Children

The accommodation offers many facilities for families to enjoy and is suitable for large groups. It is popular among big families and groups of friends, so a bit of noise is generally not an issue. The rooms have a nostalgic Showa-era vibe. However, the terrace is in poor condition. The toilet is oddly positioned to the left, making it difficult to sit straight on the first try. Cleaning standards may differ, as wiping the table with a disinfectant sheet left it black. Meals are comparable to family restaurant quality. There is a café called "Café The Forest," but despite the "Open" sign being displayed after 5 PM, the staff was busy cleaning the coffee machine and soft-serve equipment, ignoring customers waiting to order. It turned out the café closes at 5 PM, and the staff flipped the sign to "Close" without any explanation, which felt disrespectful. The hot spring quality was excellent, but the changing room was dirty, and with temperatures exceeding 30°C, the three fans provided little relief. Other guests were overheard complaining about the heat as well.

The staff's service was polite and pleasant.

We visited during Golden Week with elementary school children and toddlers. Although there were limited attractions suitable for small children, they enjoyed the thoughtfully designed wooden play equipment and the festival-like evening events at the Hotel. The staff at the archery and maze areas were very kind and attentive to the children, leaving a positive impression. However, I deducted one star because the bath near the pool (additional fee) was smaller than expected. It would have been nice if there was an open-air bath. As for meals, since it was a buffet, we didn’t have high expectations, but local dishes were seasoned to suit everyone’s taste, and even meat dishes were tender enough for kids to enjoy. Additionally, staff frequently cleaned up spills and restocked items neatly, making this one of our most pleasant buffet experiences ever. We would love to visit again!

    Best value for money!

The building shows some age, but the meals are delicious with great variety. However, it's disappointing that the steak seems to be made of processed meat. The room is spacious and comes with a jacuzzi, making it convenient to quickly wash up before heading to the open-air Onsen for a relaxing soak. Although there is no sauna, enjoying the Onsen is the main priority, so it's not an issue. A shuttle service to Yubatake is available, ensuring you can fully enjoy your stay. Even in March, winter tires are essential.

The pool and Therme Therme are also quite enjoyable.

The expansive property features a large building with a pool and two additional hot spring sources, offering attractions such as waterfall baths and silky bubble baths.

Old but comfortable environment. Decided to visit again.

We stayed for two nights during the February long weekend for a family ski trip. The building is old, and luggage handling is self-service, making it a casual hotel. However, it was well-maintained and clean, with friendly staff. We had a comfortable stay and decided to revisit in March for another ski trip. Highlights: - The large public bath is open late at night. - The lukewarm bath in the public bath area is set at 40°C, safe for children. - The outdoor bath also has a lukewarm tub suitable for children. - Child-friendly shampoo and other amenities are available in the public bath area. - Children's yukata are provided. - Restaurant staff were all very kind and accommodating. - Upon check-in, we requested a diaper bucket; instead, zip-lock bags were prepared in our room (and replacements were provided the next day). - A step stool was available by the sink in our room—thoughtful preparation based on our reservation details. Suggestions for improvement: - The hallway on B1 from Wing Building to the large public bath was quite cold. - If ski equipment rentals could be reserved in advance, it would help plan where to rent (many items were out of stock at ski resorts during the holiday).

    Onsen and Skiing

We stayed for two nights as we wanted to visit Kusatsu Onsen and go skiing. Initially, we searched for a hotel within walking distance of Yubatake, but since it was fully booked, we chose this one with a shuttle service—and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The snow-view open-air Onsen was especially delightful. Our child, who wanted to play in the snow, had a great time in the hotel's garden using free tools for making snowballs and sleds provided by the hotel. The Terme facility was also excellent. The breakfast and dinner buffets featured plenty of local ingredients; the maitake tempura received rave reviews from our family. While some dishes were repeated over our two-night stay, there were also different options available, so we enjoyed every meal. The variety of appetizer-style dishes paired well with drinks and made for an enjoyable dining experience. Our room had a humidifying air purifier which was helpful; however, due to dryness from heating, we hung wet towels in the room while sleeping. The shuttle bus took us to the ski resort in just five minutes. Renting everything (ski wear and equipment) at the hotel beforehand saved us from waiting in long rental lines at the ski resort—definitely a good decision! Both ski wear and equipment were in excellent condition. After changing into ski wear at the hotel, we could leave our casual clothes at reception for safekeeping. Shoes were placed in bags with names written on them and left in the rental room; however, if you have expensive shoes, you might feel uneasy about this arrangement—it might be better to go down wearing slippers from your room. If there's one downside worth mentioning: passenger etiquette when boarding shuttle buses to/from the ski resort could be improved. While passengers lined up outside waiting their turn to board, those without skis (planning rentals at the resort) would often skip ahead while others went behind buses to load their skis—resulting in some people not being able to board despite being first inline initially after loading their gear onboard already! This happened both ways during trips back-and-forth between locations too unfortunately enough times noticed overall throughout experiences shared here today now reflecting upon things later The log house is great!

This is my third stay during the New Year holidays. The property has many rooms, spacious and well-maintained privacy, so I always choose a log house. This time, I was able to make meal reservations via LINE, which saved me even more hassle, and the shuttle service seemed faster than ever before. What I particularly noticed was that the staff were even more friendly with their greetings and interactions! It's really important! Also, since it was a multiple night stay, I wondered if having almost the same buffet every day would be boring? But with a wide variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes available, it surprisingly didn't get boring and was delicious. Has the roast beef been improved? It tasted significantly better! Next time I'd like to stay in that vast nature during spring or summer.

    Stays at the Tower Building

We made a reservation for four people for a 2-night, 3-day stay at the Tower Building, but the building was old, and it felt cramped with the beds forced into the room. We were told at check-in that there would be no cleaning since we were staying for two nights, which was fine, but it felt like there was no benefit to a multiple night stay. There was no plan to have different meals for the first and second nights, so everything was a buffet. It's strange that the evaluation on IKYU is high. It's not bad, but I think it's not a high rating. The buffet was reasonably good. It's fine if you think of it as a ski property, but I thought it wasn't a hotel to enjoy hotel life.

No cleaning for guests with a Multiple Night Stay.

It is unacceptable to have no cleaning without prior notice. I understand the eco-friendly aspect of no cleaning, but at least bed-making should be done. As for the buffet, while there are certainly many options, the taste is... somewhat disappointing. I would like more focus on using local vegetables and paying attention to the taste.

Stayed for 2 nights from Friday. With 4 people including my grandchild, the facility is a bit old, but it is a property that brings peace of mind. Despite being crowded, breakfast and dinner were served smoothly. I think I will stay again.

    The passage of time...

I have visited many times since my children were small. There are plenty of facilities like a pool, archery, and table tennis that children love, and we have many fun memories. This time, after several years, I visited with a calm mind, wanting to indulge in Onsen. The meals were delicious, especially the full-course Western meal, which was very tasty. However, what concerned me were small things, such as the language used by the man at the front desk when I called and the rude attitude of the woman at the souvenir shop checkout. I understand they might be busy, but I hope for a kinder response. I would like to visit again.
