I’d love to stay here again.

The Room was comfortable, and above all, the meals were delicious. It had been a long time since I’d had such a great breakfast. We were very satisfied! I’d only ever come to Yunotsu for fishing and had never stayed overnight before, but now I’d like to visit again. I’d love to relax here for about two nights.

Perfect Accommodation for Sightseeing in Iwami Ginzan

To enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage Site Iwami Ginzan, we stayed at Masuya in Yunotsu, located along the old highway once used to transport silver. It is a three-story Ryokan with a charming old-fashioned feel, and the clocks hanging here and there along the corridors added to the atmosphere. The meals featured an abundance of delicious dishes made with fish from nearby waters, and the finishing sea bream rice was outstanding. The bath is not large, but it had an ambiance that perfectly suited this Ryokan. I think it is truly an ideal Ryokan to pair with a visit to Iwami Ginzan.

It was a wonderful Ryokan with excellent cuisine.

I was very satisfied. According to a plaque (with a photo), this place used to be a shipping agent in the Meiji era, but it became a Ryokan as sailors transporting silver started staying here. The room had a historical feel and was spacious (one room was divided into four sections). The bath, which some reviews mentioned as small, was about the size of Yakushiyu Onsen in Yunotsu. Since there weren’t many guests, it wasn’t an issue at all. As expected from a culinary Ryokan, each dish featured seafood from the San’in region (kaiseki cuisine), and I was extremely satisfied. Even though it’s summer, they served one Nodoguro fish per person. Since it was during Obon and the price was slightly higher, perhaps we were given special treatment, but overall I thought it was excellent. I’d love to visit again in winter when the fish are firmer and tastier!

A comfortable Room reminiscent of the past

Recently, I saw it on TV and decided to plan a visit. Coming from the Tokyo area, it was quite far, so I traveled by train from Izumo Airport and Izumo City, which took almost an entire day due to the limited number of trains. Even so, I stayed for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the streets of Yunotsu, Iwami Kagura performances, and the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine. The building is over 100 years old with a retro atmosphere that adds charm. The room had been recently renovated and was very comfortable even during this intense summer heat. My elderly mother found the stairs leading to the room slightly challenging but was overall satisfied. Meals were served in our room, as expected of a culinary-focused Ryokan. The portions were just right, and everything was incredibly delicious with seasonal ingredients. The Onsen became a bit crowded when other guests used it at the same time as us; however, this is understandable given its size. While nostalgic in some aspects, the room itself was modern and comfortable—exactly my preferred type of Ryokan. If access were more convenient, I would love to visit repeatedly. Thank you for your hospitality!

It was a ryokan with a sense of history.

It was a historical and splendid ryokan with an atmospheric guest room. I appreciated having a bed and a table in the room. I was also grateful for being allowed to wait in the lobby after checking out. However, the distance from the station was somewhat inconvenient, and the number of JR trains was limited... Walking in the hot season was tough, and I would have preferred not to use taxi fare, so a shuttle service or guidance would have been appreciated. There was a local circulation bus, but I didn't know that it wouldn't stop unless you raised your hand, and that it might arrive earlier than scheduled, so I missed it and had a hard time. The hot springs were wonderful, and as a tourist destination, they are making efforts with new cafes and other attractions, making it more interesting. I think if there were responses from the town from a tourist's perspective, it would make the trip more pleasant. (Tourists are delighted by little things and can be hurt by little things.)
