    Tenka Fubu Hospitality Hotel

Although it was my first trip to Gifu and I arrived in the rain with a typhoon approaching, the Hotel was exactly as expected. The views between the Nagara River and Mt. Kinka—worthy of “Tenka Fubu”—along with the Onsen, meals, and wonderful hospitality were all excellent. Inside the Hotel, I even got to meet Nohime, making it an unforgettable trip. I would love to stay again.

The breakfast I was looking forward to

A Very Disappointing Breakfast The website made it sound great, but the buffet was even more disappointing than at a Business Hotel. I don’t think I’ll use it again.

    I was very satisfied.

I invited my in-laws from Niigata to stay here. While the building and Facility are undeniably old, the service at the front desk and in the guest rooms was excellent, and we were able to spend our time very comfortably. In the open-air bath, we enjoyed a luxurious moment while looking out at Gifu Castle, and it seems my mother and wife were also relaxed by the hot stone spa. It was many times better than the new Hotel we stayed at in Kyoto over New Year’s. It truly exceeded its price. Next time, I would like to visit during the cormorant fishing season.

    Thank you very much.

I’d been wanting to visit for a long time, and I finally had the chance. The large public bath was spacious and relaxing, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Above all, every staff member who assisted us was truly kind and wonderful. I would definitely like to visit again.

    Always there, forever

I stayed here with my grandchild, who loves Onsen. We held our wedding ceremony at this Ryokan in 1980. Over the years, we have returned for memorial services, staff gatherings, and many other occasions. While there are fewer and fewer Ryokan in the Nagaragawa Onsen area these days, I’m happy this place is still here. The display of the Ryokan’s history in the lobby was also fascinating. Our golden wedding anniversary is still a few years away, but I hope to stay here again for next year’s special day.

    We had a relaxing stay.

I was looking for a nearby Onsen Ryokan I could drop by when I’m tired. Since this season tends to be quieter and feels like a hidden gem, I went hoping to find a regular go-to place. With the seasonal discounts available, I was grateful to stay at a price that would be hard to find even at a Business Hotel in Tokyo. Also, there was a projection mapping event at Gifu Park, and I was happy to catch it at just the right time. The show made great use of the rock walls, with a little snow from a few days earlier still remaining—overall it felt wonderfully magical, and I couldn’t look away. As an established Hotel rather than something with traditional Ryokan-style charm, there were spots that showed their age, but everything was kept clean and comfortable, so I felt at ease throughout my stay. The breakfast buffet even included ayu rice porridge, which made it more satisfying than expected. The Onsen is a simple iron carbonated spring that warmed me through and helped my fatigue melt away. It seems like an excellent option when you want to Clear your mind nearby without any fuss.

Everything was comfortable in every way except for the noise in the Room.

Because of the building’s structure, voices could be heard, so it may be difficult to enjoy complete silence; guests who are sensitive to noise might find it uncomfortable. However, the meals and the Onsen offered the best value for money I have ever experienced. Overall, I was satisfied.

Thank you for your help, but...

Thank you for taking care of us during our stay. The meals were delicious, and the bath was very comfortable. One thing did concern me... While you were clearing other tables, the clattering sound of stacking plates was quite loud, and it was disappointing that it took away from the after-dinner atmosphere. It made me wonder if you just wanted to finish work quickly and go home.

It was a very convenient location for Ukai.

I stayed here for the first time during the Ukai season. It’s a large, long-established Hotel, and the front desk staff were very kind, which made me feel at ease. You can enjoy self-serve drinks in the lobby. It’s conveniently located about a 5-minute walk to the Ukai viewing area. The Facility is a bit old, but the Onsen water quality is excellent. I would like to visit again.

This was my second stay near the Nagara River, but my first time at this accommodation. Although it is an old ryokan, the interiors have been beautifully renovated, allowing for a comfortable and pleasant stay. The meals were both visually appealing and delicious, making for an enjoyable dining experience. The staff were polite and attentive, which made me feel safe and secure even during a solo stay.

    First Trip to Gifu

We stayed here for our first trip to Gifu as a family of four with two children. The meals were delicious, and the staff was kind, allowing us to relax and enjoy our stay. The only downside was that the room's air conditioning made a slightly rattling noise at night, making it a bit difficult to sleep. We would love to stay here again.

    It was excellent.

It was amazing. However, one thing to note is that when I went to the Onsen in the morning, there was a gender switch, and the signage was unclear, causing several people to almost enter the wrong side. Other than that, everything was perfect.

    This time, enjoy cormorant fishing.

Stayed last spring in a corner room and enjoyed the cherry blossoms. The Onsen with golden water, similar to Ikaho Onsen, was excellent. Last summer, stayed at the hotel across the bridge and chose a river-side room, but there was no view from the room—trying again this time. The cormorant fishing experience was enjoyable. The dinner venue felt quite cramped and not relaxing; we had no guidance for water or tea service and followed what other guests were doing. The grilled ayu fish for dinner was overly salty, and it was difficult to remove the bones cleanly due to its preparation style. Breakfast was a buffet; even though we avoided peak times to dodge groups, it made no difference.

First of all, I apologize for spilling the miso soup and causing trouble. With the ice pack I had and the medicine you provided, I managed to make it to the stone sauna. The Room was as requested, on the Nagara River side, and we were able to enjoy watching cormorant fishing from our Room. (It was a bit disappointing to find a few strands of hair in the room. Apologies for being so particular.) The food was excellent, especially the meat. Since it was a Plan with local beer included, my husband was very pleased. The bath was very relaxing. (However, I felt slightly concerned that it might be visible from various angles.) The stone sauna also worked well for sweating out toxins. Since we stayed as a couple, it would have been even better if my husband could have joined too. After check-out, we were allowed to leave our car there, which made sightseeing at places like Mount Kinka smooth and convenient. The proximity to tourist spots is definitely an advantage. We debated whether to experience cormorant fishing directly or watch from our Room but decided on staying in due to limited time and hot weather. Although not perfectly clear from afar, watching comfortably in a cool Room turned out great. Thank you very much for your kind hospitality!

    Would love to stay again.

I stayed in Gifu for 4 days and 3 nights, staying at a different Hotel each night, and this was the best one. The hospitality was excellent, and the Nagaragawa Onsen was wonderful. Above all, the view from the Room was beautiful. I would love to stay here again when I visit Gifu!

    A Relaxing Accommodation

Located right next to the Nagara River and within walking distance of the Kinkazan Ropeway station, this accommodation offers a great location. At night, you can enjoy watching cormorant fishing from your room or the large public bath. The baths are clean and provide a relaxing experience. While some facilities may feel slightly dated, the interior is well-maintained, and its nostalgic charm creates a soothing atmosphere. The meals were all delicious, and the staff were very kind and attentive, making for a memorable stay. I would love to stay here again if given the chance.

Enjoyed my first cormorant fishing experience.

It was a last-minute trip. I inquired about gargling at check-in, and the staff kindly accommodated me due to a cancellation, for which I am grateful. The staff seemed full of hospitality and eager to make guests feel welcome. Dinner was prepared early to match the cormorant fishing schedule. The appetizers, sashimi, and Hida beef on a ceramic plate were all delicious, but I was particularly impressed by the salt-grilled char fish—crispy on the outside and tender inside—absolutely delightful! Perhaps because dinner exceeded my expectations, I found the breakfast buffet somewhat lacking. It would be great if food could be replenished within serving hours as some dishes were left empty without refills. Hence, my rating is 4 stars. The coffee available at the front desk was excellent! You can enjoy it leisurely on the riverside terrace. I wanted to try the stone sauna but wasn’t sure how to use it properly.

    Cost-effective Hotel

I was very happy to fulfill my long-time dream of experiencing cormorant fishing, enjoy a 1-night stay with 2 meals, and relax in an Onsen with natural hot spring water. On top of that, the price was reasonable, which made me even happier. I am already recommending it to my friends.

    Spacious Room Recently Renovated

The accommodation is conveniently located along the river. You can unload your luggage when pulling up to the entrance. While the lobby may feel a bit busy, the room itself is very quiet. The east side of the room features large windows offering views of upstream Nagara River and Gifu Castle. Below, there is a park that leads to Gokoku Shrine's grounds, providing a spacious and scenic view. The renovated room, seemingly combining two rooms into one, is spacious and clean with comfortable chairs. On the hallway side are a large and convenient unit bath with washing area, sink, and toilet—all easy to use with ample space. The room also has two large TVs. Due to the wide windows, there may be slight temperature differences between areas in the room but nothing uncomfortable; air conditioning works well. The public bath is on the top floor with bright and spacious bathtubs and washing areas that are individually partitioned for privacy. It’s also open to non-staying guests for bathing use. The open-air bath offers great views at an ideal temperature; even on cold windy days, it remains comfortable. Dinner is served dish by dish at your table in your room—an exquisite culinary experience with meticulous allergy accommodations provided by attentive young staff members. Beds are large and very comfortable for sleeping. Breakfast buffet operates in two shifts with plenty of seating available. Although it gets crowded initially after opening time, within 10 minutes it becomes easier to access dishes around the buffet area which features local specialties rich in regional flavors.

Thank you for the heartfelt hospitality.

It was a stay with my 1-year-old grandchild, and the hospitality was truly heartwarming. Meals were served in the room, and the staff in charge of our room was so courteous that it left a deep impression. The accommodation had both indoor and open-air baths, providing a truly relaxing experience. We could see Gifu Castle from the room.

    Not recommended.

I chose a Multiple Night Stay with my mother, thinking it might be our last trip together and wanting to relax. Although my mother had praised "Sugiyama" Ryokan, we decided on this Hotel for its convenient location within walking distance to Gifu Park. Our Room was a corner room on the 5th floor with a great view, and the open-air bath was spacious, making us initially glad about our choice. However, dinner was extremely disappointing—nothing tasted good to the point where both of us were left speechless. The rice in particular... At the 5:30 PM dinner service, it seemed like packaged rice was used? It smelled strongly of chemicals like insect repellent and made us question if it was safe to eat. On the second day, after some snow had fallen overnight making walking conditions difficult, we went out for about an hour despite strong winds but returned early as we worried there might again be nothing edible at dinner. We bought emergency food supplies before heading back to the Hotel. When we returned, my mother wanted something warm to drink but missed the complimentary coffee service hours. I suggested using the vending machine in the basement instead. While heading there, a staff member from a paid drink corner followed us and gestured towards another vending machine on the first floor saying "There’s one upstairs." This felt uncomfortable (as if being told to leave), but I nodded politely not wanting to ruin our mood. After buying drinks from that basement vending machine and taking an elevator back up towards our Room from another side of that area—the same staff member followed again asking “Where are you going?” This repeated behavior made me feel truly unwelcome—as though treated suspiciously! Is this common here? Or does this Hotel have frequent issues with suspicious guests? Having worked at various Hotels or Ryokans myself previously—I know all departments usually keep track when guests stay longer-term! The second night’s dinner experience also worsened impressions further; while Day One's server provided polite service—the next evening lacked such attentiveness altogether alongside already poor-quality meals… For example: when solid fuel under hotpot failed properly heating contents near freezing-cold window seats during snowy weather—my mom asked whether everything would cook safely only receiving dismissive replies like “It’ll work fine; let me turn off heating.” Eventually needing explicitly request extra fuel ourselves felt absurd given circumstances requiring proactive checks instead beforehand! Although waiting several days post-stay hoping emotions settle before writing reviews—it remains impossible overlook frustrations encountered overall leaving deep regret choosing here ultimately!

    Property with an outstanding view

It was my first time visiting Nagaragawa Onsen. The view from the room was wonderful, and I could enjoy the Onsen with a unique water quality at a leisurely pace without any crowds. Regarding the meal, they mentioned that they could bring the rice first since I hadn't been drinking much, so I requested it that way, but it never came. It was disappointing to have cold meat. Additionally, there were people having an argument at the dining venue, and their voices were loud throughout, so I ate quickly and returned to my room. A little consideration such as addressing them would have been appreciated.

    I had a relaxing stay.

The building shows signs of aging, but there is careful attention to detail in the corridors and rooms. The large public bath felt spacious considering the size of the Hotel. The breakfast offers a wide variety and is fulfilling. I used it for a business trip, but I was able to spend my time comfortably. I think it's more relaxing than staying at a Business Hotel in the city.
