    The food was outstanding!

    We chose this Accommodation as a stop on our way from Takachiho Gorge to Kagoshima, and both the chef’s recommended course dinner and the breakfast were outstanding. We truly felt it was an Accommodation worth staying at just to enjoy the food. Everything was delicious, but what especially stayed with us were the appetizers, fresh sashimi, basashi (horse sashimi), a chawanmushi with a unique twist, the pudding for dessert, and the egg-over-rice at breakfast. The grilled yamame was also excellent. I’m not usually fond of river fish, but we were told they prepare it so there’s no unpleasant smell from the innards; it wasn’t fishy at all, and the flesh was fluffy and delicious. The beer—if I recall correctly—was served at -2.2°C, and its coldness really sank in after the Onsen; it was wonderful. The staff member in charge of our meals explained everything in detail and even guided us to see fireflies in the garden before dessert, so we were able to enjoy firefly viewing for the first time in a while. I knew about Kumamoto’s major floods in 2020, but hearing that the Kuma River right in front overflowed and that most of the first floor was submerged made me amazed at how well they have restored everything. All areas inside have been renovated, and the Kuma River flows calmly just outside. The garden terraces—one for stargazing and another with flowing water—were also relaxing places to unwind. The person who assisted us at check-in had such warmth in their manner that it immediately put us at ease. It truly lived up to its Reviews, and we were very satisfied. Thank you very much.

    The birthplace of Hitoyoshi Onsen—this Accommodation was wonderful.

    I have stayed at other Accommodations in Hitoyoshi Onsen before, but I was looking forward to this Accommodation because it is known as the birthplace of Hitoyoshi Onsen. There are three hot spring sources, and I enjoyed all of the baths, but my favorite was Source No. 1, the original spring. You have to go down a staircase to reach it, so it may be a bit difficult for guests with mobility issues, but it had a wonderful atmosphere and was very nice. This time I stayed in a triple-bed Room, and it also had a tatami living area where I could relax and chat comfortably with my friends. The view was great as well—we could clearly see the river—and the Room was bright. The meals were elaborate and packed with delicious Kumamoto specialties. Everything was excellent. Since there was only one bath towel per person, it would have been even better if there had been an extra one for each guest. Thank you very much.

    Highly satisfied

    Both the meals and the Onsen were of exceptionally high quality, and we truly enjoyed our stay. The baths in particular were wonderful, with excellent Onsen water that left our skin smooth. The sauna was also great. You can also take a walk along the Kuma River, making this an Accommodation where you can really experience the charm of Hitoyoshi. We would love to stay here again when visiting Hitoyoshi.

    Warm and Wonderful Accommodation

    A historic accommodation in Hitoyoshi Onsen with over 100 years of history. Despite suffering devastating damage from flooding a few years ago, it has risen and been beautifully restored. A beloved accommodation blending history and modernity. ◯ Room Spacious with tatami flooring even in the washroom and toilet, providing a very calming atmosphere. ◯ Cuisine Perfectly seasoned with a gentle taste, and the portions were just right. ◯ Onsen We enjoyed two baths, including the first hot spring source of Hitoyoshi Onsen. The water deeply nourished our skin, leaving it smooth and soft—wish we could have stayed longer! The staff were warm and welcoming, making for a wonderful stay. We would love to visit again when traveling to Kumamoto Prefecture!

    A Long-Awaited Return

    It was my first visit in about 10 years since staying here during my honeymoon. Despite what must have been many challenges, the accommodation has been renewed and updated. The onsen was excellent and truly relaxing. While it didn’t feel very nostalgic, I was able to spend a peaceful time. This is an accommodation I hope will continue for many years to come.

    The Onsen was excellent.

    Beautifully restored after the flood five years ago, it was truly impressive. You can enjoy three types of Onsen. The underground bath had a traditional charm that I particularly liked. The ayu cuisine was delicious.

    The result of blindly trusting high ratings...

    For the first day of my trip to Kumamoto, I chose this accommodation based on its high ratings on IKYU.com for the area. From arrival, I felt that the service aligned with its cost-performance ratio. However, I found it slightly uncomfortable that the dinner time was somewhat forcibly decided for me, though it wasn’t a major issue. The guest room was nicely renovated and equipped with a TV that allowed access to Netflix, which I appreciated. The quality of the Onsen water was decent; however, the underground Onsen—described as the oldest in Hitoyoshi—was located in an area without an elevator and required climbing many stairs. This could be inconvenient for elderly guests. Regarding dinner, there were no explanations about any changes to the menu at the start of our meal. When comparing what was served with photos on both their website and booking site, it was clear that one dish was missing from what had been advertised. Upon pointing this out, staff explained that they had upgraded certain items on the menu instead of including all dishes shown in photos. While I understand adjustments may occur due to circumstances at hand, such changes should be communicated upfront when serving meals—and details about what exactly constitutes an "upgrade" should also be clarified during such explanations. I found their customer service attitude disappointing overall. As this was my first trip to Kumamoto, it ended up being a rather disappointing experience overall. Please take care not to rely solely on high ratings when choosing accommodations like this one!

    It was wonderful.

    The oldest Onsen accommodation in Hitoyoshi has been transformed into a wonderfully modern space! It was truly surprising. Located in a residential area, this stylish accommodation suddenly appears. The lobby features unique elements like sofas set over water outdoors and a fireplace-style area where we enjoyed drinks. Above all, the staff were incredibly kind, and the meals were delicious. I would love to visit again when the Kuma River turns emerald green.

    The hot spring water is simply exceptional.

    It was our first stay for our wedding anniversary, and we were satisfied with everything—the hot water, the room, the meals, and the hospitality. We look forward to staying again.

    It was excellent.

    I stayed here for a spontaneous solo trip. The room was by the riverside with a great view, and there were three types of baths, including the renowned Hitoyoshi Onsen hot spring—such wonderful water. I chose a generous plan for meals, and both the meat and fish were incredibly delicious. The warm hospitality made my stay truly enjoyable.

    Multiple Night Stay is recommended.

    We stayed for two nights in a room with a semi-open-air bath. The hotel has been renovated and is very clean, with spacious and relaxing areas like the terrace and lobby. In the lobby, there is a free drink machine offering a variety of options such as coffee, tea, consommé soup, and apple water, which we enjoyed multiple times during our stay. For meals, we chose the standard option on the first day and upgraded on the second day. The salt-grilled yamame fish, seasoned rice with miso soup, and breakfast rice topped with freshly shaved bonito flakes were particularly delicious. We appreciated their accommodation of food preferences as well as providing rice balls for late-night snacks. There is an Italian restaurant on-site where dinner can be switched to Italian cuisine if desired. We stayed with a family member who has mobility issues; the staff was incredibly attentive by sharing room details at the time of reservation and arranging a special shower chair for use in the bathroom. There are three baths available; however, they are not barrier-free. For guests with mobility challenges or elderly visitors, rooms equipped with semi-open-air baths are recommended. The baths have historical significance and feature natural hot spring water flowing directly from its source at an ideal temperature without overcrowding due to having three separate locations. Fresh towels provided at each bath made it even more enjoyable. In the morning, you can take leisurely walks along Kumagawa River right in front of you for a peaceful start to your day. This accommodation has become one of our top choices for family stays. However, there were two points that concerned us: First was that there were no carts available to carry luggage during check-in or check-out which made it difficult. Second was that there were no lunch options available in Hitoyoshi town during our multiple night stay—having an Italian restaurant open by reservation only would be highly appreciated!

    Attention to detail,

    This was my second stay. Although I initially planned to have dinner elsewhere, I booked a plan that included both dinner and breakfast as it was the only option available. When I received a confirmation call the day before my stay, I mentioned this, and they immediately changed it to a breakfast-only plan for me. Much appreciated! The onsen was spacious and relaxing, with the sauna at just the right temperature for comfort. The room's private bath was also quite large for an indoor bath—truly fitting for an onsen accommodation. Breakfast was delightful; the bonito flakes were delicious and paired perfectly with rice. I would love to stay here again!

    It was absolutely wonderful.

    My first visit to Hitoyoshi for sightseeing and a pilgrimage to the location of my favorite work. I decided to stay one night at Suiranro Ryokan. The location and the atmosphere of the Ryokan were excellent. The Room was very lovely, with just the right amount of space for a comfortable stay! The semi-open-air bath in the Room allowed me to enjoy a view of the Kuma River, which was truly satisfying. I felt that the water temperature was slightly lukewarm, but it might vary depending on personal preference or season. The morning bath felt a bit chilly, but once sunlight hit, it became just right (this may also depend on the season). Meals were served in private rooms, making it very comfortable. The dessert pudding wasn’t overly sweet and perfectly suited my taste! Additionally, the grilled yamame trout was tender and delicious!! I heard that ayu fish becomes available starting in June! During my stay, I didn’t encounter other guests except in the lobby area, which made it even more relaxing. If only this place were closer—I’d love to visit multiple times throughout different seasons! I will definitely return when visiting Hitoyoshi again. Thank you so much!

    □ The Room (3F) offered a great view of the river. □ Enjoyed two meals, dinner and breakfast. The rice was delicious, and the Kuma shochu was excellent! □ All the staff were kind and attentive.

    Meals, room, service, and Onsen—all excellent.

    We stayed as a family of three generations, seven people in total, booking two rooms. We stayed in luxurious modern Japanese-style rooms with semi-open-air baths. The onsen in the guest room was warm and comfortable, and the private open-air bath had a 50-minute time limit. Although there was only one shower, the large bathtub was spacious enough for all four family members to enjoy together. The room was clean, the meals were delicious, and the service was pleasant.

    Everything was satis...

    Everything was satisfying. Especially the dinner, with tonight's live sweetfish sashimi being delicious and the bamboo shoot rice being exceptional. The Onsen had three types, but "Midori no Yu," a March hot spring with an open-air bath, was too cold for me to try. However, the other Onsen were warm and cozy. Additionally, I appreciated the thoughtful preparation of sleepwear separate from yukata, which stayed in place comfortably. I would love to stay again!

    Thank you for a truly luxurious experience.

    From the shuttle service to check-in, the room, and the baths, everything was very pleasant and relaxing. The meals were especially outstanding. The staff providing service were all smiling and wonderful. There are three bath areas, each with silky smooth water where you can relax, but two of them have stairs which might be a bit challenging for those with mobility issues. That was the only concern I had. It was a hotel I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    Great satisfaction

    We used it with four...

    We used it with four people, including my parents and wife. We were satisfied with everything: the quiet riverside location at the end of a residential area, the quality of the onsen, the overall design of the ryokan, the content of the meals, and the service. There are multiple onsens, and personally, I really liked the first onsen with lukewarm water that allows for endless rotation. After returning home from the trip, I watched a video of the reconstruction on YouTube (I think it would be good for those considering staying to watch it before going out). It must have been an unimaginably difficult experience, but I think it has been renewed as a wonderful property. My parents were also very pleased. When traveling to Hitoyoshi, I would like to visit again. Thank you very much.
