An Accommodation I Wanted to Return To

It’s a 1 hour 45 minute trip from the station, and since you can’t miss the one bus, getting there is a bit nerve-racking.\nBut the hot springs are excellent, the food is excellent—everything is top-notch!\nThere are five private baths where you can enjoy free-flowing alkaline simple sulfur Onsen that feels like a beauty serum.\nAnd the cuisine is incredible. Using Shizuoka-certified ingredients, the pairings and cooking methods are creatively arranged, with great care taken so you can enjoy the presentation and textures as well.\nThere are also several carefully selected types of sake to match the dishes—fine dining and Onsen indulgence in the middle of the mountains!\nThank you very much.

I stayed in the Yui ...

I stayed in the Yui Room. It seems to be a Room created by connecting what were originally two Rooms, with two toilets, two washbasins, and one shower booth. It was spacious and relaxing. Because it is in a quiet area with little traffic or footfall, the sound of the Abe River flowing across the road and the calls of wild birds felt very soothing. It got chilly from around evening, but the room remained comfortable. There are four private family baths, all spacious, thoughtfully designed, and easy to use. Since there are as many baths as guest rooms, you can use any of them at any time during operating hours. The Onsen water is silky and quite slippery, so if you’re not careful you may slip on the bottom of the tub—but it was excellent water, so I tried all four. Dinner is served quietly in a private dining room. The meal featured many dishes centered on seasonal local ingredients and was truly delicious. Breakfast was also based on local ingredients and was very good. I was able to enjoy another bath at a leisurely pace after eating. Although it was fully booked, I did not encounter other guests inside during my stay. Compared with high-end Accommodations around The whole country that offer Rooms with open-air baths, this Accommodation is simple; however, in terms of privacy, guest rooms, baths, Onsen quality, and meals, it did not fall short at all and I was very satisfied. The owner couple were also wonderful hosts—an Accommodation I would like to visit again.

We fully enjoyed the Onsen, delicious meals, and the beautiful natural surroundings.

About an hour from the nearest interchange, as the riverside scenery narrowed, I kept driving with a mix of anticipation and unease about what kind of secluded Accommodation awaited. The Abe River flows in front of the Accommodation, and on the opposite bank rises a sheer wall of fresh green foliage. My first impression was that it was a slightly larger minshuku, and that didn’t change during check-in and explanations—but I was surprised when shown to my Room. It was almost like a special suite in size: both the living area and bedroom had adjustable air conditioning and lighting, and there were TVs as well. With full-length windows facing the river, the furniture is arranged to let you enjoy the abundant nature, creating a very comfortable space. Even without a large public bath, there are four private baths available for exclusive use. The larger ones are spacious enough for four people across three tubs, and each bath has its own distinct atmosphere to enjoy. The water has a silky texture that feels wonderful—you can truly feel you’re soaking in an Onsen. The nourishing dishes made with many ingredients were delicious; even though they say it’s “a small portion,” it’s more than enough unless you have an especially big appetite. I was satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. It seems to be run mostly by just the couple, but I had no complaints or sense of lacking anything during my stay. I thoroughly enjoyed the nature-rich setting where you can visit waterfalls, along with smooth-skin Onsen baths and excellent food. This is an Accommodation that felt like a perfect match for my tastes, and I’d love to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

    I feel refreshed every year.

This is my fifth visit at the end of January every year. Delicious cuisine, exceptional onsen, impeccably clean rooms, and above all, the warm hospitality of the host and hostess make for a truly relaxing stay. It’s a hidden gem of a ryokan that I hesitate to share with others.

We look forward to welcoming you again.

I am a repeat guest. Once again, I was deeply comforted by the wonderful staff, delicious cuisine, relaxing onsen, and the cozy and beautiful room at this accommodation. On a slightly chilly day, they kindly placed a heating pad at the foot of the futon. It was so warm and thoughtful—thank you very much. This is a lovely accommodation where you can feel hospitality in every detail. I will visit again!

    Hidden Hot Spring

The hot spring quality was excellent, and the food was delicious. We had a relaxing time across two generations. Although the mountain road was narrow and thrilling, it added to the excitement of visiting such a hidden gem! We would love to visit again.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

The room was spacious, the onsen was excellent, and the food was wonderful—an amazing accommodation. We were surprised to hear that everything from cooking to management is handled entirely by the couple. The dishes were elaborate and extremely delicious. We enjoyed the four types of baths multiple times. However, as my husband had back pain at the time, it was a bit challenging without an elevator.

A good accommodation as per the reviews

It was my first time, but while searching in Shizuoka Prefecture, I found this accommodation with high review scores and made a reservation. Located deep in the mountains, the roads were narrow, and I was worried about driving there by car, but it turned out fine. There are only four rooms and four private baths (named after Wind, Forest, Fire, and Mountain). At night we used "Forest," and in the morning "Mountain." The onsen water quality was truly exceptional—silky smooth and left my skin feeling soft. The "Mountain" bath had a cave-like design with stacked rocks that added charm. For dinner, we chose a plan featuring Suruga gamecock chicken paired with Abe wasabi. Not just hot pot dishes but also corn tempura dumplings in broth, tomato gratin, eggplant soaked in broth—all were intricately prepared and tasted amazing. The fresh wasabi served with sashimi stood out as authentic to its origin here—it was impressive! Since the portions were large, we skipped rice at the end of dinner and opted for ramen instead. Breakfast was beautifully presented; especially notable was the large grilled salmon which tasted fantastic. We stayed in a renovated room called “Yui,” equipped with beds—it was spacious and impeccably clean. Although the toilet facilities were new as well, it didn’t flush automatically which felt slightly inconvenient. The accommodation seems to be mainly run by a couple; judging from details like how slippers are neatly arranged near private baths or overall tidiness everywhere—I believe the owner must be very meticulous. This area is known as one of Japan's origins for cultivating wasabi? There are several shops selling pickled products made from it—including award-winning ones—making them perfect souvenirs too. Overall an excellent accommodation offering wonderful onsen experiences combined with outstanding cuisine!

    The Baths of Fūrin Kazan

Visited the hidden Onsen of Shingen. The road to get there has some narrow paths, but we reached this secluded hot spring without any issues. There are four baths themed after "Fūrin Kazan," offering a variety of experiences. On the day we visited, it was just my spouse and me, so we had the place to ourselves. This accommodation has been running since 1958 and is now managed by the third-generation owner and his wife, featuring four rooms in total. Meals are served in separate rooms for each guest group. While it was quite hot during the day, at night it was cool enough without air conditioning—perfect for relaxing in the natural flowing Onsen baths. We opted for a smaller meal portion, which was just right for us older guests. They also offer a selection of sake, making this accommodation an ideal place to unwind.

Recommended for solo travelers as well.

It was unexpectedly private, so during our time slot we were free to enjoy the Onsen as many times as we liked. Each dish was carefully prepared and truly delicious, using plenty of local ingredients, and it really let us fully experience Shizuoka. We tried all four Onsen baths—Furin Kazan—and “Wind” was our favorite, with a soothing aroma of hinoki cypress and sulfur. We were surprised by how silky the first rinse water felt! Of course, our skin felt wonderfully smooth afterward. The tea was excellent, and the landlady’s homemade yomogi manju were also delicious with a gentle sweetness. From the Room we could look out over green mountains and the river, relax while listening to the flowing water and birdsong, and we truly appreciated your hospitality. If we have another chance, we’d love to visit in a different season as well.

The hot spring water is excellent.

Luxuriously smooth and gentle on the skin, the onsen was exceptional. The private baths were all spacious and enjoyable. The meals were delicious. The interior of the accommodation and rooms featured abundant use of wood, creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere. With only four rooms available, the overall experience was very peaceful. However, during our stay, the sound of the river was more like a heavy downpour rather than a gentle stream due to high water levels, which was unfortunate. Without that issue, it would have been a perfect 5-star experience. Next time, I might try staying in another room. I also loved the selection of magazines in the reading corner!

An accommodation you'll want to visit again and again.

Probably the 6th stay. Every time, the accommodation, the host and hostess, the onsen, and the meals bring me so much comfort! Simply soaking in the onsen, enjoying delicious meals, and relaxing in the room. This kind of time feels like the ultimate luxury. Thank you for another relaxing stay!

    "Subtle Hospitality"

An elderly couple who loves Onsen visited in late April. The "subtle hospitality" left a lasting impression, so I would like to share it. The beautiful babbling of the Abe River right in front of the Ryokan was truly moving. The stream, with a gradient of about 6 degrees and a width of 30-40 meters, had its riverbed covered with natural stones, creating an impressive and breathtaking view. When we mentioned this to the hostess of the Ryokan, she explained that after a natural disaster caused flooding, the current riverbed was artificially constructed by laying natural stones. Our room on the second floor offered a delightful view of this scenic stream. Meals were prepared using plenty of local ingredients and were delicious. The hostess's simple yet heartfelt explanations about each dish were charming, and occasionally her husband also provided explanations. As someone who loves baths, I was thrilled with the four private baths named (Wind・Forest・Fire・Mountain). Since there weren’t many guests that day, we could enjoy them as a couple without any rush. Small thoughtful touches like scented sachets in the restroom or toilet paper wrapped in furoshiki added to the warm atmosphere. Thank you very much for such an enjoyable stay! This Ryokan has become one I would love to visit again.

It was as amazing as always.

This is a repeat visit after just over a year. As a couple, we enjoy going on luxurious onsen trips about three times a year, usually exploring new accommodations based on reviews. This time, we decided to revisit one of the best onsen accommodations from our past trips and unanimously (just the two of us) chose Yunoshimakan. The serene guest room where you can hear the sound of the river, the silky smooth onsen water quality, the delicious and abundant dishes, and conversations with the quiet yet kind hosts—everything reminded us why we made this choice again. We laughed together saying, "We endure daily stress at work for moments like this with such high-quality service." Once again, we were able to rejuvenate ourselves during this stay. Thank you very much!

    We stayed here on ou...

We stayed here on our way back from visiting my family, just the two of us. We had high expectations for the meals based on their reputation, and they exceeded them—it was truly delicious! Even with the smaller plan, we were fully satisfied. We tried all four Onsen baths, each with a unique and beautiful design. Instead of rushing to try all four, I recommend taking your time to enjoy each one thoroughly. One bath even has a spacious relaxation area; adding chilled beer or soda there might enhance the experience further. Both the guest rooms and dining areas were impeccably clean and well-maintained. The thoughtful layout ensured comfortable spacing between guests, allowing for a peaceful stay. It was also the perfect season to enjoy plum blossoms and cherry blossoms during our drive and morning walk. I wasn’t very familiar with Umegashima Onsen before this visit but found it to be a serene and charming hot spring destination. I’d love to return for another relaxing stay—thank you!

    I was very satisfied.

Okushizu... I was drawn to the shamo hot pot and had high expectations. I was surprised by the deliciousness of the shamo, and all the other dishes were elaborate as well. The pairing with sake was perfect, and I might have drunk too much? (laughs) The onsen was also wonderful, leaving my skin smooth and feeling great. Although there is nothing around, listening to the sound of the river flowing while gazing at the surrounding mountains made it a fantastic place that allowed me to forget about daily life. It's a place that makes you want to visit again! The couple running the property were also friendly. I would be delighted if they could continue without closing down. Thank you for a gentle time.

A wonderful property that makes you forget the time

We visited Umegashima Onsen in the Oku-Shizuoka area to enjoy the onsen and autumn leaves, but unfortunately, the autumn leaves were about a week early this year. However, the property did not disappoint. Run by a couple, the property offers a relaxing stay without excessive service. The private onsen baths are available as much as you like, with slightly silky sulfur springs. The baths are cleaned thoroughly each time, maintaining a sense of cleanliness. This is truly a place to forget time, escape the city, and relax. The view from the room includes the Abe River, and the only sound you hear is the flow of the river. Meals, both dinner and breakfast, are served in private rooms, featuring seasonal seafood and mountain delicacies with kind explanations from the owner, leaving us fully satisfied. The breakfast is also delicious. During our stay, we hardly encountered other guests and had no inconveniences, making it a very wonderful property. We hope to visit again next year to see the autumn leaves. P.S. I wish I could have talked more with the owner about the old Mini Cooper.

I visited during the three-day weekend in October.

We stayed on the first day of the three-day weekend in October. We were impressed to find such a high-quality onsen in such a remote area of Shizuoka. The water is simply wonderful. The meals were delicious, and it became a property we want to visit again. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Unfortunately

I visited with high expectations due to the high ratings, but I was disappointed. The spirit of hospitality did not come through; was there something wrong? I was surprised to find used tea leaves from the previous guest, which is an unacceptable oversight. There is a saying that one thing leads to another, and the lack of attention to detail resulted in negative evaluations across the board.
