I’d love to stay here again.

The Accommodation and our Room were very clean, and we had a comfortable stay. There were many Onsen options—an in-room scenic-view bath, the Facility’s large public bath, an open-air bath, and a family bath—so my Onsen-loving husband and our 6-year-old son enjoyed them so much they went four times a day (laugh). The hospitality of the proprietress and staff was wonderful. I was pregnant, but I was able to truly relax and take it easy during our 2-night, 3-day stay. Also, there is a river very close by where children can play and enjoy nature, so both adults and kids never got bored. It’s an Accommodation we would love to stay at again. Thank you very much.

    Not worth ¥80,000 per night.

I stayed in the “Sekirei” Room. For the past 10 years I have only stayed at Ryokan with an open-air bath in the guest room, but this was by far the lowest-rated one. To begin with, it wasn’t really an open-air bath. There was a bridge right in front where people pass by, and because of the privacy screen you couldn’t see outside at all. It was a bath enclosed by a roof and walls—essentially like being inside a prefabricated hut. The biggest disappointment was the food. Dinner was chicken. I was surprised that at JPY 40,000 per person it wasn’t beef but chicken—and not even anything special, just ordinary chicken. I didn’t find a single dish particularly tasty, and there were few items overall. It felt like a course you could get for around JPY 4,500 per person if you ate out. Breakfast was also very disappointing: mentaiko, salted seafood (shiokara), kamaboko fish cake, rolled omelet, salted salmon, etc. Everything tasted like something bought from a supermarket. If eaten out, it would be about the level of a JPY 1,500 set breakfast. At around JPY 40,000 per person, I did not feel the meals were worthy of the price at all. It would have been better to skip meals and eat elsewhere. It seemed likely that the food was exactly the same as for rooms without a bath. Since this is one of the higher-priced rooms at Nansui-kaku (Soft Water Pavilion), I think they should upgrade to more appropriate cuisine. For example, I have stayed at Kahou in Tsukioka Onsen (Niigata) for about the same price and found their meals properly enjoyable. I have stayed at Ryokan across The whole country—Hakone, Izu, Nikko, Atami Arima Onsen Ureshino Yufuin—and this is honestly the first time in my life I’ve felt compelled to write feedback like this. I wonder if management doesn’t know what kind of cuisine other Ryokan charging similar rates are serving?? Among all Ryokan I’ve booked through IKYU.com so far this had by far my lowest level of satisfaction.

    Spotlessly clean throughout.

Impeccably clean. Not only the Room, but both the open-air bath and indoor bath had no scum or hair floating in the water, which truly impressed me. The changing area was also thoroughly cleaned. The amenities were well stocked, and an eco bag for the baths was prepared in the Room, showing thoughtful attention to detail. The meals were beautiful Japanese cuisine with extra care put into each dish—seasonal and delicious. The foreign staff member who assisted us left a great impression. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

A tranquil Onsen Ryokan blessed with magnificent natural surroundings.

The Ryokan offers a wonderful atmosphere and is surrounded by magnificent natural scenery, providing a relaxing stay. The meals, upgraded with the Plan, were delicious. Although the Onsen is not free-flowing, it offers a variety of options. It would be even better if BS broadcasting was available to match the ambiance of this first-class Onsen Ryokan.

    Unfortunately...

Upon arrival, the front desk and lobby were crowded with day-trip groups leaving and guests checking in. There was no proper guidance, causing back-and-forth between the lobby and front desk counter. The room was excellent. However, while neighboring voices were not audible, the sliding doors made loud noises echoing throughout—possibly a design issue. The open-air onsen itself had a great atmosphere. However, the changing area and washing space were completely exposed to the outdoors, with no consideration for winter conditions. Improvements are needed for these spaces to ensure comfort during colder seasons. Additionally, there was no guidance provided regarding adjustments for onsen water temperature when it felt too hot or cold. The staff's straightforward yet precise service was a relief amidst these issues. The food was delicious overall; however, dryness in dishes like fugu sashimi and other sashimi stood out as disappointing details. Overall, it left a somewhat regretful impression of this accommodation experience.
