    Stay at Hakone Kowakien Miyama Furin

    We stayed as a family of five. After seeing the photos posted in advance, our expectations were quite high, so I was honestly surprised by the gap the moment we entered the building and our Room. The Room we were shown was right next to the dining area and had a simple layout separated by partitions. To be honest, it felt more like a staff break room than guest Accommodation, and I found myself wondering, “Are we really staying here?” While it was clean, details such as futons being left folded at the edge made the overall atmosphere feel like a training camp facility, and it did not feel worth the price. Regarding breakfast as well, it was described as “freshly baked bread,” which we looked forward to, but in reality it was a self-serve style where you went to pick up bread laid out in the dining area—hardly something I would call freshly baked. The difference from what was stated was significant and disappointing. The open-air bath at the Onsen was a positive point, but my impression of everything else about the Facility remained strong, so overall satisfaction did not improve. The staff were kind and helpful, but I felt that it would be better to review again whether the layout of the Accommodation and what is provided meet an appropriate standard for guest stays. Also regarding meals: our first-grade child was served the same meal as adults and could barely eat any of it, so most of it ended up being left. It felt very unfortunate to waste food. I think more consideration is needed for children who are no longer preschoolers.

    The Room was average, and the bed comfort was also average. The Kowakien restaurant called Kumashiro was simply terrible and had an unpleasant smell. They even served dry sushi—there was nothing good about it. The Onsen was quiet and relaxing, and it was fairly nice. I recommend it for families or couples on a tight budget, or anyone looking to travel cheaply, as long as you don’t expect too much.

    It may be difficult to understand from the accommodation's website or photos, but this is a "casual" level accommodation. It is not a traditional Ryokan. Please do not misunderstand. There is a steep slope in front of the facility, and passing cars may require caution. The parking lot is also narrow. There are no elevators, so depending on your room's floor, you may need to carry heavy luggage up and down stairs. The fact that you can use Yunessun and Mori no Yu is a nice feature!

    Omote Ryokan

    There is no pick-up service. There was no one at the front desk, so I carried my luggage up the slope from the parking lot. This is the first time I've been treated like this. I carried my luggage up the stairs to the room. On the surface, it looks like a Ryokan, but inside, it feels like just a slightly renovated facility or retreat. The bath is also narrow and too old. The breakfast is not something worth staying at a Ryokan for. I felt empty. It is completely aimed at foreigners and is inadequate. I never want to go to Hakone again.
