    Disappointed

    I stayed on the first floor, and around 3:00 a.m. there was loud banging from directly above on the second floor that continued for over 30 minutes. The vibrations were so strong I thought it might be an earthquake. Then around 5:00 a.m., there was suddenly very loud knocking on a door. When we went near our door, it wasn’t our Room, but someone was pounding on a nearby Room and demanding that a car be moved. The next day, when I told the front desk, they seemed unaware, but said another family also reported that someone had knocked and come in. It was a very frightening night. If possible, I would like to know what happened to whatever extent you can share.

    The Onsen was wonderful.

    The Onsen was truly wonderful, just as rumored. Despite being a secluded hot spring, the meals were excellent and the hospitality was genuinely pleasant.

    Second time!

    The quality of the Onsen is excellent! Some parts of the Facility are old, but it is clean and comfortable. Both the service and food were satisfying. Thank you for your hospitality.

    First Visit to Shirahone Onsen

    On my way back from Kamikochi, I decided to stay at Onsen Tsuruya in Shirahone Onsen for the first time. The accommodation was small and cozy, giving off a hidden hot spring retreat vibe that was very charming. The room had been renovated and was very clean, but since we have back issues, the bed mattress being quite soft made us a bit uneasy. However, we managed to be fine the next morning. Next time, I think we'll choose a room with futons instead of beds. The meals were delicious; however, the serving order seemed to change without notice, and the final dish ended up being chawanmushi... which made us laugh! Perhaps it was due to a new staff member? It wasn’t clear but somehow felt endearing enough that we couldn’t complain! The onsen itself wasn’t large but was absolutely amazing beyond words. We soaked multiple times and even after returning home, we were still surrounded by the pleasant sulfur aroma which made us happy. That said, I expected lanterns in the outdoor bath area to light up at night but none of them did—it didn’t cause any trouble but it felt like such a missed opportunity for ambiance... Apparently, they were lit in the men’s outdoor bath area though? Since I didn’t encounter any female staff members during my stay, perhaps no one could turn them on for our side? Still, Shirahone Onsen is truly an exceptional hidden gem of an onsen experience—I’d love to visit again!

    Disappointing for the price.

    The Plan included breakfast and dinner for 42,900 yen per person. The reception staff and service were pleasant. While not all ingredients in the meals were premium, it was evident that the head chef made efforts to create enjoyable dishes despite rising ingredient costs. The food was delicious. Unfortunately, the Room felt outdated; the tatami creaked, and the underside of the sink's edge was visible and appeared dirty, which was unpleasant. Amenities were minimal with poor quality, and the shampoo provided in the public bath wasn't great while the body soap caused irritation. The changing area had hair on the sink counter—while this partly depends on user etiquette—I would suggest increasing cleaning frequency. Considering seasonal factors and that meals were included, I feel this price point might lead me to choose a different accommodation next time. On a positive note, being in a room facing the river allowed us to enjoy both its sound and views of autumn foliage.

    A Heartfelt Accommodation

    Relaxed and enjoyed the Onsen at a leisurely pace. The quality of the spring water was excellent, and both the indoor and open-air baths were delightful. It was an incredibly luxurious experience. The Shinshu salmon and Shinshu beef were delicious. The fresh spring water drawn from the rocks was also very tasty, and I had some to take with me. This accommodation truly embodies heartfelt hospitality. I would love to visit this accommodation again.

    Expensive and unpleasant Onsen

    It is a disappointing Ryokan with an Onsen, costing 60,000 yen per night, where everything was unsatisfactory.

    The nature view from the Room and the open-air bath were excellent.

    I was interested in Shirahone Onsen and chose this Ryokan for its affordable price with No Meals Included. It was my first time staying at an Onsen Ryokan, but the staff were kind and provided detailed explanations. The Onsen is available all night, so I could enjoy it almost privately by entering during times when no one else was there. Additionally, the view of the forest from the guest room and the sound of the flowing river made for a relaxing experience, resulting in a very satisfying trip.

    The accommodation of...

    The accommodation offered excellent value for money and high satisfaction. The onsen was wonderful, and the room, meals, and hospitality were all very satisfying. I enjoyed relaxing while listening to the sound of the stream. Considering rising prices, I appreciate the effort to provide such quality at this price point. Thank you very much. I would love to visit again!

    First No Meals Included Stay

    It was a last-minute reservation, so I could only choose the No Meals Included Plan. The bath was nice, and the room was simple with no issues, but perhaps due to the cold wave, even with the air conditioner on full blast and wrapped in blankets, it was still freezing. Also, the bidet did not work.

    I stayed with my hus...

    I stayed with my husband on Saturday. The bath had the distinctive smell of Onsen, and it made my skin very smooth. It was nice to have cleansing products in addition to facial wash. We had the standard kaiseki meal, which was just the right amount, not too much or too little. The meat tasting and Amago salt-grilled fish were delicious. The disappointing part was that the Room was very hot. It seemed to be set to central air conditioning (?), and it was extremely hot even without using the air conditioner. I tried to find a switch to adjust it in the Room, but I couldn't find one. I dealt with it by opening the window. (I should have told the front desk)

    The stars are very beautiful.

    The quality of the onsen water was excellent, and the starry sky viewed from the open-air bath at night was beautiful. It was the first time I saw so many stars that I couldn't distinguish the constellations. After getting through the traffic jam caused by an accident and navigating the narrow road before the property, I finally arrived at 4:50 PM. The welcome drink, beer, was available until 5 PM, so I hurriedly checked in and quickly drank a beer at the free drink corner overlooking the valley, finally taking a breath. The room was on the basement floor of the main building with a 12-tatami low bed, but the greenery of the valley spread outside the window, giving it a charm that didn't feel like a room without a view. The furniture and furnishings seemed to be works by local artists, simple and tasteful, with particularly comfortable chairs. The milky white onsen I was looking forward to exceeded my expectations and was wonderful. Although there were some stairs to navigate, it wasn't bothersome, and the slippers were easy to walk in, making it comfortable. It was a trip filled with awe at the starry sky and onsen.     A property I want to stay at again

    The bath is open all night until morning, and when my husband woke up in the middle of the night, he was delighted to take a quick bath and then go back to sleep, having slept soundly. The building itself seems old, but the Facility and hospitality were excellent! Of course, the Onsen too! I thought I would like to stay longer next time.
