    Distance to the cottage

    I stayed in a cottage, but overall the experience fell short of expectations. The biggest issue was the location. The cottage was extremely far from the restaurant—so far that staff even recommended driving. Since this is an Accommodation where guests come to relax in nature, it would be helpful to reduce the burden of getting around, such as providing golf carts. The Onsen was similar: even though I paid the Hot Spring Tax, it wasn’t something I could use casually or conveniently. Both the dining venue and the Onsen were far away, and throughout my stay everything required driving. Rather than a relaxing resort experience, it felt like I was constantly moving from place to place. The lodge itself also showed clear signs of aging. It had been cleaned, but honestly I had concerns about hygiene, and I hesitated at paying JPY 8,000 for three dogs. The door creaked loudly when opening and closing and didn’t shut properly (some parts wouldn’t close at all), which made me feel maintenance was lacking. Considering the Accommodation Fee, this condition was disappointing. The dinner buffet offered a wide variety of items, but each dish itself was mediocre—more quantity than quality. The natural surroundings are wonderful, so I believe improving the layout and Facility maintenance would make this place much more appealing. Even accounting for peak season, I felt the value for money was quite poor. It didn’t feel worth the price, and it’s not an experience that makes me want to return.

    A cake buffet-style setup is fine.

    Although it was disappointing that the Onsen Facility was unavailable, we were satisfied with the wide variety of cakes and the diverse selection at the breakfast buffet.

    The Onsen was great, and the cake buffet was also excellent.

    The natural Onsen spring water was available and very relaxing. The washing area also had ReFa showerheads, and the fine bubbles made washing my face feel great. The cake buffet was enjoyable as well, with cakes and Japanese sweets such as arare rice crackers and mitarashi dango, plus many kinds of drinks.

    Perhaps due to the peak season, the experience did not quite match the price.

    The buffet was not bad, but there were some mediocre items. We stayed at a hotel from the Itoen Hotel Group the next day, and that experience was better. The welcome cakes and dinner cakes were enjoyable, so it might be good for those who like Chateraise cakes. They sold wine by weight at the front desk, but since you could only drink it in your room, it would have been nicer to enjoy it in the lobby or lounge. Dinner time was limited to 6:00 PM–8:00 PM, which made it very crowded and inefficiently organized, causing delays. The Facility felt smaller and older than expected based on its appearance. Perhaps my expectations were too high because I found this on IKYU.com; I had hoped for a bit more... That said, we managed to book during a holiday period, and the location itself was good. The Room's bath being spacious was also a plus. There was also a playroom for children with various toys like Plarail (though the batteries had run out), which allowed kids to play—this was appreciated!

    Even if outdated

    The Facility is generally outdated, but the buffet was excellent. The welcome sweets were also satisfying, though you should be mindful of your stomach capacity.

    Dinner was disappointing.

    I booked the Japanese-Western fusion course. The "appetizers" included "tokoroten," "stir-fried senmai," and "mountain udo," etc., none of which paired well with wine. Additionally, they were not stylishly presented but rather crammed into small bowls, which was disappointing. I wanted to enjoy an extraordinary experience, but it was unfortunate. However, the garden is spacious and beautifully green. The Onsen is small. There was a mountain view depicted, but it was obstructed by trees and not visible.

    The Facility is a bit old, but very comfortable.

    I have known about the Koumi Riex Hotel for a long time, but this was my first time using it. I think it might be a building from the bubble era, but it has been beautifully renovated and maintained comfortably. You have to walk to the outdoor bath, but the spring quality allowed me to feel the Onsen, and the open-air bath while feeling the cold wind was so pleasant that I could stay in it forever. There are stairs after entering the entrance of the breakfast restaurant, so I thought there must be an alternative route for people with leg issues. The meals were creatively prepared and very delicious. If you choose the right time, it's reasonable, and I definitely want to repeat and have a Multiple Night Stay.
