    I found Kamino-yu On...

    I found Kamino-yu Onsen when I searched for a solo trip, 2 nights, smoking, Onsen, and in-Room dining. I was able to relax in the Onsen and feel refreshed, and I could even see Mt. Fuji from my Room. Because of my knee, getting up from the futon and standing up from floor cushions was a bit difficult, so I wished there had been a floor chair. The staff greeted me with smiles, which made me happy. Dinner served in my Room was also very satisfying, and I appreciated that the menu was different on both days. There is a valuables locker at the entrance to the large public bath: you set a PIN first, then put your Room key inside and lock it. However, I mistakenly locked it before setting the PIN and couldn’t open it (T . T), which caused extra trouble for the staff. It may be better to leave your Room key at the front desk m(__)m There were plenty of washing stations in the bathing area as well, so it never felt crowded. My skin felt smooth after bathing. I would like to stay again. On the second day they called a taxi for me, and I was able to visit Shosenkyo Ropeway and Sengataki Falls and enjoy a leisurely walk.

    In-room dining is highly satisfying.

    We were able to dine in the Room, and we were very satisfied with the meal, but we felt disappointed because the handle of the hair dryer in the private open-air bath was loose and broken, and a previous guest’s false nail had been left behind.

    We enjoyed the nostalgic early Heisei-era atmosphere and the bath!

    As this was probably the cheapest Plan, the Room amenities weren’t anything special, but considering the price it was reasonable. The place was kept clean and I was able to stay comfortably without any inconvenience (the extension phone line cutting out at times, and the older sink making a “gurgling” sound when running hot water were just part of the charm). I saw recent Reviews mentioning the bath temperature, but it seems that feedback has now been reflected. I truly appreciate the thoughtful consideration so guests aren’t put at a disadvantage. The paid private bath is of course great, but I especially liked the atmosphere of the free private bath. It felt like staff-made touches added a special sense of occasion. The interior—likely from the Showa to early Heisei era—has been preserved without being stripped away, creating a nostalgic and comforting vibe. The service was genuinely very polite, and I had a pleasant stay. Highly recommended for anyone whose main purpose is enjoying the baths!

    Onsen is the best!

    The Room and Onsen with a view of Mt. Fuji were exceptional and truly fulfilling. While the elegance of the Room and meals left a bit to be desired, the stunning scenery more than made up for it. We also appreciate being informed when the private family bath was available.

    Such a unique Hotel!

    When I entered the Room, the glass table was still dirty. The door leading from the bath to the open-air bath was covered in black mold, which was unpleasant. Breakfast started at 7:30 AM, but there was no coffee ready, and when I tried to have tea, there was no hot water in the pot, so I couldn't even drink tea.

    A Showa Retro-Style Accommodation

    The shuttle service between the nearest station and the accommodation is prompt. There is no room guidance after check-in. The cleanliness of the public bath is inferior to that of a typical public bathhouse. Dinner shows effort, but the half-buffet breakfast is disappointing... At the very least, rice and miso soup should have been served. The polite service by foreign staff is highly appreciated, and I want to support this effort. The paid private bath was gloomy and unsanitary, making it unappealing to use. Overall, there was almost no interaction with the accommodation staff, leaving a cold and impersonal impression. Despite being a solo trip, there were no heartwarming memories to take away. I had hoped to book a celebratory trip for my mother (a group of 15 people) if this stay had been satisfactory, so it was very disappointing.

    It was a completely disappointing accommodation.

    Originally planned for two, our group expanded to five, including my wife, second daughter, and two grandchildren. Upon check-in, we were surprised to find that futons for all five of us were already laid out in the room. It felt more like a high school training camp than a proper accommodation experience. There was no explanation about this at the front desk either. While it’s not unusual for staff in Japan to come from other parts of Asia, I felt that the basic principles of Japanese-style service we expected were not adequately taught or upheld. Dinner appeared to be kaiseki-style at first glance but seemed rushed as if they wanted us done within an hour. The staff merely delivered pre-prepared dishes without paying attention to guests' needs or taking drink orders proactively. The food itself was average. Breakfast was a buffet but lacked variety and even basic items like milk. It reminded me of what you might find at a business hotel I stayed in years ago for work. The only positive aspect was being allowed free access to a private bath early the next morning due to my wife’s mobility issues—this gesture was appreciated. However, overall, I regretfully feel there is no reason for us to return in the future.

    Enjoy a Relaxing Onsen Trip

    We stayed as a three-generation family: my parents in their 80s with weak legs, myself, and three children in their 20s. We had a room with a view of Mt. Fuji, but unfortunately, the weather was cloudy. However, the mountain ridges were clear and the scenery was beautiful. The room was spacious enough to lay out futons for six people comfortably. One slight disappointment was that the futons were already laid out at check-in, so we couldn't fully appreciate the room's size. It also made it difficult to reach the window without squeezing through narrow spaces, which worried me about my parents tripping over them. I would have preferred if the futons were laid out during dinner time. The onsen experience was fantastic! We enjoyed both the large public bath and private baths like the cave-style and egg-shaped ones. Playing table tennis in the lobby added to our onsen experience; we even had matches between kids and grandparents. Above all else, the meals were absolutely delicious! It was a full-course Japanese menu where every dish tasted amazing—we left completely full! Although some facilities showed signs of age, everything was well-maintained and clean. Even using an old-fashioned refrigerator brought nostalgic charm from another era. It’s an accommodation we’d love to visit again!

    Great value, fully satisfying Onsen.

    A one-night stay for two people costs 30,000 yen (including dinner and breakfast). The service provided at this price was satisfactory. Meals featured seasonal ingredients, showing commendable effort for the price. Dinner's seasoned rice and breakfast curry (with wine) were particularly enjoyable. The view from the room was stunning, with a magnificent sight of Mount Fuji that left a lasting impression. The Onsen offered multiple baths with varying temperatures (36–38°C, 40–41°C), allowing guests to choose according to their preference. The open-air bath was also very pleasant. The slightly alkaline water warmed the body thoroughly. As the Hotel is located in a residential area, there are no nearby spots for walking exploration on foot; however, having a car makes it convenient as a base for visiting tourist attractions in the area. While the building is somewhat old—which is understandable—the dirty stairs (treated as emergency stairs with closed doors) were disappointing. Attention to less visible areas would be appreciated. I attempted to use the stairs instead of the elevator but gave up due to this issue. This time I traveled by train, and found that express train services were convenient and made for a relaxing journey overall. The peach blossoms blooming along the railway added beauty to my trip experience.

    This is an accommodation I would recommend to my friends in the United States.

    I made a reservation for an onsen accommodation with a view of Mt. Fuji at the request of my daughter and her husband, who were temporarily returning from the U.S. Her husband is American and has tattoos, and while many accommodations do not allow guests with tattoos to use their onsen, this accommodation was very flexible. When I inquired in advance, they responded promptly, which gave me peace of mind to send them off. The scenery and onsen were wonderful, and the dinner was carefully prepared dish by dish. Both of them enjoyed it very much and said it was excellent. They mentioned wanting to recommend this place to their American relatives and friends who love Japan. Thank you very much!

    The view from the Room is excellent.

    I was very satisfied to be able to see the first sunrise of the year from the Room, and the start of the new year was wonderful. The food was also great, with New Year's Eve soba and traditional New Year's dishes for breakfast, and the staff were pleasant. The only slightly disappointing thing was that there was a lot of dust in the Room. I wonder if it's because the windows can't be opened? If this point could be improved, it would have been perfect. Thank you for taking care of us.

    The best value for money

    I used it with a friend. First of all, the price is amazing even with breakfast and dinner included! And the Onsen is great! Just with this, the satisfaction level is 5 points. ~Cost Performance~ The best cost performance class ever. Nothing to say. ~Bath~ The large public bath is open 24 hours, which is appreciated. I could quickly take a bath even after breakfast. There are various baths, making it fun. The barley tea service outside is delightful. Having a free private open-air bath is good! I liked the unique type of entrance. There are also various types of paid private baths, so I recommend them. The egg bath (something like a stone sauna) felt cold at first, but after a while, I started to sweat properly. Many locals also come for day-use bathing, and I felt it is loved by the community. ~Cuisine~ Full of volume! Everything was delicious. If I may say, I wanted the grilled fish with cream to be served warm. And the water is incredibly delicious. Should I say, as expected of Yamanashi... It was so delicious that I drank too much. ~Facility & Service~ Although it is aged, I felt the cleaning was well done. There was a ping-pong table, so I had an intense ping-pong tournament with my friend. The garden was also beautiful. There are many foreign staff, so I think tourists can feel at ease. This might be a cultural difference, but during meals, they came to check if we had finished eating many times from the shadows, so I felt a bit rushed. ~Shuttle Service~ It's helpful that they can pick you up at Ryuo Station.

    The food itself is good, but it feels disappointing.

    This Ryokan, is it modern? All the staff were foreigners. I've been on a foreign cruise before, and it felt like that. Everyone at this Ryokan could speak Japanese, but the things that are common sense for Japanese people were difficult. If the price is cheap, it's fine, but I stayed at a different Ryokan the next day, and it was 3,500 yen more expensive per person than there. They should include Japanese staff for support. Of course, there was no welcome, room guidance, or send-off. I wondered if they even cleaned the Onsen, and the paid bath felt eerie. The chef was skilled, and the food was delicious. So I want to give a high rating, but for the room meal, a young foreign male trainee brought it, which was fine, but he suddenly lit two solid fuels for the kamameshi and shabu-shabu, four in total, and I thought, "What?" and while I was wondering what would happen, the room got hot, and they kept bringing more food. It was supposed to be kaiseki, but there was both soup and miso soup, and if I didn't eat the shabu-shabu, it would get cold, and the sashimi came later, and the appetizers were served last. I ordered beer, so I wanted to eat slowly. Normally, they serve the food according to the pace of eating, so what's the point of room service? A veteran Japanese person should instruct and teach them, it's a shame. As an aside, the second Ryokan was perfect in every way.
