    A Satisfying Snow Country

Warm, attentive service and more food than we could finish—especially breakfast, with plenty of dishes that pair perfectly with rice. We were very satisfied, and the thoughtful attention to every detail made our stay truly comfortable.

We were able to relax and enjoy delicious food.

I stayed here to relax at an Onsen Accommodation. The homemade, heartfelt dishes were truly delicious. Dinner was great, but breakfast was especially memorable—the simmered royal fern, Tochio fried tofu and bamboo shoots, and simmered potatoes were outstanding. The potato salad was also excellent; the woman next to me had finished hers and asked for seconds, so I requested an extra serving as well. After bathing, I opened the Room window and enjoyed the pleasant night breeze from the satoyama countryside, soothed by a chorus of frogs. I was very satisfied!

I had a relaxing and comfortable stay.

I was able to relax without feeling pressured. During dinner, the portion sizes were just right, and everything was delicious. Breakfast was also very tasty, especially the nameko mushrooms, which I loved. It was nice to meet Hime-chan, the shy mascot dog. Even though it was the year-end season, there were no large groups of guests, making it a truly soothing trip.

It's been a long time since I had such delicious rice that I couldn't resist.

The Onsen, room, and service were all excellent, but the meals, especially the rice, were absolutely incredible. I even bought a large amount to take home as souvenirs. The food made me truly grateful to be born Japanese. I can't wait to visit again!

    Accommodation with Delicious Cuisine

The homemade dishes were delicious, with fresh vegetables and a heartfelt touch. The low salt content was appreciated, and the new rice served was excellent. However, there was no brush among the amenities, so I would rate it 4 stars. It would be nice to have a deodorizing spray in the restroom and a basket for carrying items to the bathroom. The facility was clean, and having multiple types of shampoo & conditioner to choose from in the bathroom was a great touch. I had a pleasant stay for one night and two days. I would love to visit again!

It was a very relaxing accommodation.

I stayed for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation, which was filled with thoughtful touches of hospitality everywhere. The meals featured different menus each day, offering a wide variety of dishes that were impressively prepared. While I enjoyed the delicious dinners, I personally loved the breakfasts, especially the countryside-style side dishes and rice. The hot spring baths switch between male and female areas in the morning and afternoon. The large bath was spacious enough to stretch out comfortably, but I preferred soaking in the smaller bath with its natural flowing hot spring water whenever it wasn’t crowded. The bubbling water covered my hands and feet with tiny bubbles as I soaked, making me feel its therapeutic effects. Since the water cools quickly, there was a large lid on this bath to retain heat—while it didn’t bother me personally, I wondered if it might be a bit heavy for older guests. I learned for the first time that lilies are a specialty of Tsunan when I received a lily cup made at a nearby facility during checkout. Following their instructions after returning home, I placed flowers in it with water—and what an ingenious idea! After waiting 2-3 days as advised, beautiful large lilies bloomed magnificently. Near the accommodation is Ryugakubo Pond, one of Japan’s top 100 famous waters—a hidden gem worth visiting. When we went there on a sunny day with mist drifting over its surface, it created an incredibly picturesque scene that captivated everyone present. This is an accommodation where you can truly relax and unwind—I had such a wonderful holiday here. Thank you very much!

A Relaxing Hot Spring Accommodation in Tsunan

I had a truly comfortable and pleasant time. The display of pressed flower frames matching the plant names of each room, along with handmade decorations and flowers placed throughout the accommodation, created a warm and soothing atmosphere. The meals, full of a handmade touch, were nostalgic and gentle on the body, and I was very satisfied with the six baths, which I enjoyed at a relaxed pace thanks to the rotation system. Above all, the heartfelt hospitality provided by the wonderful teamwork of the staff left me with the thought, "I will return again." It became an unforgettable night filled with nostalgic memories. I look forward to staying again, and I wish everyone at the accommodation good health!

    It was my first time...

It was my first time visiting Tsunan Town, but it was quite far from the Kan-Etsu Expressway, and I struggled to find the final narrow road to the accommodation. The meals were very delicious, so thank you. It was disappointing that there was no bath in the room and no hairdryer provided. The staff at the accommodation were very pleasant and made my stay comfortable, but I found some aspects of the scenery and room amenities a bit disappointing.

    Warm hospitality accommodation

I stayed at a traditional family-run accommodation in Tsunan, Niigata. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, along with the heartfelt hospitality of the hostess and her family, left a lasting impression. The meals, featuring local vegetables and seasonal river fish, were simple yet carefully prepared and absolutely delicious. The hot spring water was also incredibly soothing. The interior is adorned with numerous pressed flower artworks handmade by the hostess, creating a relaxing ambiance. One particularly memorable detail was the placemat used during breakfast—handcrafted by the hostess for each guest. Its beauty was captivating and made me enjoy my meal even more. The accommodation is equipped with all necessary amenities. While the building itself is not new, it is impeccably clean and very comfortable to stay in. It may not be a luxury ryokan, but it’s highly recommended for those looking to enjoy casual yet delicious meals and heartfelt hospitality in a cozy setting.

Grilled sweetfish, carp miso soup, and homegrown rice—the meals were absolutely exceptional.

I stayed for one night and enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. As mentioned in the reviews, the meals were absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had a spicy hot pot made with local pork, charcoal-grilled sweetfish, and the highlight was the koi-koku stew. The fish was tender to the bone, perfectly paired with rich miso flavor, and had a delightful collagen-rich texture. Breakfast was a buffet of "country-style cuisine," featuring various side dishes, pickles, homemade umeboshi plums, watermelon, and more. You could have as much rice and miso soup as you liked. There were also options like onsen eggs and ham salad. The simmered tofu with mountain vegetables was particularly tasty. A guest next to me mentioned how delicious the simmered potatoes were; even though I was full, I tried them—and they were amazing! The balance of sugar and soy sauce created an incredible flavor that left me wondering how it could taste so good. The staff member at the dining hall had a lovely smile that added warmth to my experience. The facility is slightly old but very clean, and the large public bath was refreshing. While it’s not what you’d call a luxury accommodation, I would love to visit Tsunan again just to stay at this accommodation.

Returning home, drawn by the sweetfish my uncle catches.

This is the only accommodation in a small settlement located in front of a station, neither an onsen town nor a hidden hot spring spot. It has the appearance of an ordinary ryokan but offers hospitality reminiscent of a homely inn on a larger scale. Friendly staff in traditional Japanese uniforms work energetically. Unlike tourist ryokans, there are no welcome greetings, farewells, or valet services. After checking in at the front desk, your luggage will be taken to your room via elevator. The four-story building is situated beside the western embankment of a large river. Rooms are lined along both sides (east and west) of the corridor and feature clean Japanese-style interiors. From west-facing rooms, you can see the settlement, Iiyama Line tracks, and mountain slopes. The top floor houses a large bath overlooking Shinano River to the east—a square open-air bath with a roof—and there’s also a private bath that fits several people but gets quite hot under the afternoon sun due to western exposure; it has only one washing area. Post-bath beer can be purchased affordably from vending machines. Dinner is served at private table seating with local pure rice sake pairing perfectly with meals—leaving you fully satisfied. While dining, futons are laid out in your room for sleeping comfort. Breakfast is served in a hall where each room has designated seating with dishes already set up; some items are buffet-style. The miso soup ladled from a large pot is particularly delicious!

    It was very relaxing.

It was a shame that there was no view from the Room or the open-air bath, but the food and the staff’s attentiveness were excellent. The pressed-flower artwork in the building and the pressed-flower paper placed under our dishes during meals were thoughtful touches that made us very happy. We truly felt the warm hospitality and would love to visit again.

    A cozy and homely accommodation

The walk from the station was surprisingly short and convenient. On the way back, I was kindly dropped off at the bus stop, making it easy to catch the bus. This accommodation had a warm, homely atmosphere with thoughtful touches reflecting the previous owner's attention to detail. The meals were satisfying and delicious, leaving me full and content. The food paired perfectly with drinks, which I enjoyed thoroughly. However, I deducted one star because when I visited the onsen in the morning—advertised as a natural hot spring—the water level in the bath was less than half full, only enough to soak up to my legs. That said, the view of snow-covered mountains and rivers from the rooftop open-air bath was absolutely stunning!

    The snowy scenery was amazing.

I was able to enjoy the beautiful snow scenery, which I had never seen before, while staying warm under the "kotatsu." When going outside, I was provided with warm boots and could fully enjoy myself. I am very grateful for the thoughtful consideration during various situations such as check-in and check-out times. I truly had a joyful time. The meals were also very delicious. To be honest, I stayed at another property in a nearby town the day before, and while it wasn't bad there either, this property was more affordable and offered more satisfying meals. I definitely plan to visit again.

It was a cozy and lovely Stays.

The staff's attentiveness is wonderful, and the property is very clean and charming. Above all, every meal was delicious, and I was so engrossed in eating that I forgot to take photos. I would definitely like to visit again.

We used it for a fam...

We used it for a family trip combined with our annual visit to the grave. The staff (family?) were very polite and pleasant, and the rice at meals was incredibly delicious, so I had 2-3 helpings. It was completely different from the rice I usually eat. The Facility was well-cleaned, making it feel clean and pleasant, and although I'm not fond of hot baths, the temperature was just right and it was perfect. I would like to use it again if I have the chance.
