Unable to wait for the rainy season to end, I came back again to this mountain lodge.
Five guest Rooms on the second floor, facing all four directions; one has an in-room bath. (The Accommodation’s official website seems a bit outdated—perhaps two Rooms were combined and an in-room bath was added. The restaurant has also been renovated so that all seating is in private rooms.) The private baths in the separate log cottage building number two for about 4–5 parties, so they’re almost always available. They’re spacious and excellent. After bathing, we were served fresh craft beer on tap with thoughtful snacks—much appreciated for such understanding hospitality. The Accommodation looks just like the photos on the site, and the quality of both the meals and the service matches the Reviews. You can feel how much care goes into their hospitality. On the first floor there are a lobby and front desk, restaurant, wine cellar, plus a lounge and library. The shelves are packed with well-cared-for books, and we were able to spend quiet time there as well. The gently suggested dress code at dinner likely reflects how seriously they take their cuisine. Seasonal and local ingredients are prepared with great care and served attentively. The paired wines are poured generously. Nights are quiet, and in the morning you hear bush warblers singing nonstop.

As always, it was a highly satisfying stay.
Staying at Berg House is always a delight, especially because of the seasonal dishes made with fresh vegetables and fruits. We always stay in the same room, making it feel more like returning home than just staying at an accommodation. This time, we were particularly impressed by the soup made with Kawakajima Hakuto peaches. On our way back, we searched for these peaches at a farmer's market as they had a firm texture yet were perfectly sweet, just as their son who served us mentioned. My spouse and I agreed that we must have these peaches again next year. The carefully prepared dishes using low-temperature cooking reflect the high level of professionalism and dedication to pleasing guests. Among all accommodations we've stayed at, this is one that makes us want to return as soon as possible after every checkout—a truly beloved place!

A Mountain Accommodation with Excellent Hospitality for Tanabata
From the heat of the lowlands to the cool breeze of the highlands. The accommodation is nestled in a forest among several other facilities. While it has a long history, careful and high-quality renovations have made the interior bright, clean, and comfortable. Air conditioning was newly installed for use during only brief moments of peak summer heat. The calm interior design is complemented by charming ornaments that reflect the owner's taste. The private bathhouse features what used to be large communal baths for men and women, with a spacious square stone tub, an equally large open-air bath, and two washing areas. The water temperature is consistently perfect. Post-bath local craft beer was delightful. Dinner is served in a private room with wide windows overlooking lush greenery—a meticulously prepared gourmet meal paired with local wine made for an indulgent experience (though we enjoyed it so much we missed out on bar time at the self-serve café). Nights are quiet here, with comfortable bedding ensuring restful sleep. We left a window slightly open to enjoy the fresh highland night air as we slept. Morning begins with birdsong—skilled warblers singing continuously—and an early soak in the onsen offers a different charm from evening baths. Breakfast features carefully prepared Japanese dishes using fresh local vegetables. The hospitality from both the owner and staff makes this accommodation truly exceptional.

The service and faci...
The service and facilities are excellent. It is a bit inconvenient to have to go outside to access the bath. The food is very delicious. However, considering the price, the ingredients used in the dishes are average.

Recommended Stays
I stayed here when I visited Mt. Norikura. As the title suggests, the owner's hospitality and the delicious meals made this Stays memorable. After the meal, there was a free drink service with alcohol, and I had a delightful time chatting with the couple who stayed that day. Thank you very much. The Onsen is colorless, transparent, and odorless, so some may find it lacking, but I thought the quality of the spring and the temperature were good. I recommend this Stays.

I used to enjoy trying different Stays once, but this was the first Property that made me think, "I want to come back again." The hostess greeted us as soon as the car arrived (I wondered if there was a sensor somewhere), and despite having many guests, she called us by name and spoke to us in a friendly manner. The plants, interior, tableware, and furniture were all stylish and showed attention to detail. It was a luxurious yet relaxing space. Even though they must be busy, everything was so clean that there wasn't a speck of dust, and the hallways smelled wonderful. The meals were astonishingly delicious, with vegetables and sauces all being the stars, and I was moved with every bite, feeling the care and effort put into them. Since they used only local, pesticide-free ingredients, most dishes could be eaten whole, and I was amazed at how even these parts were delicious! The serving staff were very elegant in every gesture, and their smiles and attentiveness were excellent, allowing us to enjoy the meal. Staying here was like "living." Although it was just one day, I was able to savor every aspect of life, such as relaxing in the Room, eating, and sleeping. This naturally brought about a sense of gratitude. Thanks to this experience, I became more mindful of my daily life, including clothing, food, and shelter, after returning home. The semi-open-air bath with free-flowing Onsen water was wonderfully warm, thanks to the temperature being adjusted to my liking. The faint mineral deposits on the edge of the tub were exceptional, allowing me to visually appreciate the source. My body felt warm to the core, and I felt hot for a while. I was so pleased that I bathed multiple times. At this time, the towel warmer in the changing room was greatly appreciated. For skincare, there was oil cleansing, foam face wash, and all-in-one gel at the sink. For those with dry skin, it might be a good idea to bring lotion or cream. With the Onsen, exquisite meals, and a fluffy futon for a good night's sleep, this was a unique Property with a friendly yet attentive hostess providing exceptional hospitality. Even though I was surprised by the four and a half hour one-way distance when I made the Reservation myself, by the time we left, the hostess was waving us off until the car was out of sight. I talked with my partner, saying, "I want to come back here again next year," and "Next time, let's have a Multiple Night Stay in a different season."

The thoughtfulness is wonderful!
I visited for the first time on a friend's recommendation and was very satisfied. The building is relatively old and small, but there are thoughtful touches of hospitality everywhere, with a lovely scent that is soothing, and subtle drink and snack services in the library. The meals were beautiful and elaborate, yet they brought out the flavors of the ingredients, were plentiful, and truly delicious. Moreover, we had a spacious private room! Breakfast had a Japanese taste, and I was surprised by the variety of dishes! I made the mistake of forgetting my charger in the room, but they called me immediately and sent it by express delivery. I was completely satisfied with everything and definitely want to visit again!

An inn that convinces you of the reason for having many repeat guests.
Once you visit, you'll be moved by this wonderful inn, and no matter how many times you return, you'll be touched by the exceptional service, furnishings, meals, and hot springs, leaving both body and mind satisfied and eager to return... It's that kind of inn. Moreover, whenever you go, you'll find the beauty of each season. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it; it's that kind of place.
