I was able to relax and rest well.
I took the cable car from Tsukubasan Shrine and, not realizing the climb would be so steep, I hiked up to the ropeway station in light clothing. The Onsen afterward was truly wonderful. The temperature was just right and the water felt gentle; after soaking several times, I went home without sore muscles and hardly any fatigue. After returning home, I realized I had left something in the safe. You kindly sent it to me by courier, and even included a letter. I really appreciated your thoughtful kindness. All of the female staff were very pleasant, and thank you for making my stay so comfortable.

Near Tsukuba-san Shrine
This is an Onsen Accommodation located halfway up Mt. Tsukuba. The Room had large windows and felt very open, but the view from our Room was not great. Tsukuba Shrine is a 10-minute walk away, and beyond it is the cable car station, making sightseeing convenient. There is one large public bath and one open-air bath, but the views were not great. There is an observation terrace, and from there we could enjoy a panoramic view of the Kanto Plain, which was wonderful. All of the meals were delicious and we were very satisfied. Since the building is old, there are many small steps, and the women’s bath is on basement level 2 and can only be reached by stairs, so it may be a bit tough for elderly guests. The staff were very kind and attentive, and we had a comfortable stay.

Dinner was delicious.
The Room was a slightly small Japanese-style room, but it was clean and comfortable with no inconvenience. There were various snacks provided, but even though I had mentioned that I cannot eat seafood, one of them was whitebait-flavored. I would have preferred the soy sauce flavor. The rusks were delicious. Perhaps because the yukata had a bold pattern, it bothered me that there was no outer layer such as a haori. The bath area was spacious and had a ReFa showerhead. Although the water is an alkaline Onsen, its characteristics felt somewhat mild, possibly due to added water, and the temperature felt a bit hot at around 42–43°C. I almost missed the narrow door in the corner leading to the open-air bath, but once outside I could enjoy the sound of a small stream and a natural view full of blue hydrangeas and green leaves. Having a roof was also nice during the rainy season and would likely provide shade from the summer sun as well. To reach the large public bath on B2F, you get off the elevator on B1F and then take stairs down, so elderly guests should be cautious. The meals were delicious. Dinner was not overly filling; well-prepared dishes were served in appropriate portions. Since I finished everything, some men might find it slightly insufficient. Breakfast (including udon) was tasty as well, though I felt there were fewer side dishes than expected. I stay at Onsen Ryokan almost every weekend as a solo traveler, but solo stays often feel expensive at other Ryokan too. Even though this stay was offered at a discounted price with an applicable discount applied (Discount rate), it did not feel particularly good value—and at the same time did not offer any standout sense of quality either.

The finest open-air bath, surrounded by lush, vibrant spring greenery.
A wonderful Accommodation. The open-air bath. The greatest pleasure, surrounded by vibrant fresh greenery with a rustic charm. The scenery, the atmosphere, the breath of nature—I've never experienced an Onsen like this. The view of lush fresh greenery through the large glass windows in the lobby is truly stunning. People enjoy the footbath there, and when you look down you can see the river flowing below—the sound of the water adds to the charm. Calm, soothing corridors. Even the single Room has a modern design, and on the desk there was a welcome treat of three kinds of sweets. There was even original chocolate in the refrigerator! I could only admire how beautifully presented dinner was. The portions were just right—not too much, not too little—and I enjoyed both fish and meat together with delicious white rice.

Enjoy the bath and cuisine
I chose this place because I wanted to enjoy an open-air bath. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Tsukuba Station. Perhaps because it’s in the mountains, the temperature was cooler than at the foothills, making it a very pleasant location. I expected a mountain-side Room, but ours also had views of the Kanto Plain through the window. I found myself gazing outside, thinking it might even improve my eyesight. Both on arrival in the evening and again in the morning, we could hear birds singing, which made for a calm and relaxing atmosphere. From the observation deck, we could even see a nearby shrine. Maybe because we stayed on a Sunday, there weren’t many guests, so the baths felt almost private. We were able to soak while looking out at deep green scenery. The bath area was well stocked with various body washes and shampoos, and it made sense that amenities are supplemented there. The meals were abundant and really showcased how rich Ibaraki’s local ingredients are. The rice was locally grown Oda rice. The Oda clan of Tsukuba is known as Sengoku-era warlords nicknamed “the Phoenix,” and enjoying rice connected to that history made it even more memorable. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Wi-Fi is available, but there’s also a library with everything from children’s books to popular titles—perfect for a digital detox. There were plenty of locally unique souvenirs as well, making it fun to choose. The frog figurine was especially popular with our child. The only downside was that there are many steps and level changes. Stairs are required to reach the baths, and even the open-air bath has uneven stone footing—so it may be difficult for guests with mobility issues. In addition, our Room only had floor chairs; I would have liked at least one standard chair to sit on comfortably.

Your First Trip to Ibaraki
My first trip to Ibaraki, and I was very satisfied! It’s truly a wonderful place (lol). Since this trip was mainly for Mt. Tsukuba, choosing to stay at Tsukubasan Edoya was the right decision. It’s located next to Tsukuba Shrine, and you can walk through the shrine grounds to take the cable car—an ideal Accommodation for us. 〇 Onsen For Onsen lovers, it’s great that you can bathe 24 hours a day. This was honestly fantastic. There’s also a footbath, which was a plus. 〇 Meals Dinner was served in a private room, so we could eat without worrying about others—really nice. And of course, everything tasted delicious. Breakfast was in a different venue and shared with other guests staying there. It was a new experience for us and felt refreshing. The Tsukuba udon was delicious! 〇 Facility The building is old, but it was well cleaned and maintained. However, the large public bath is on B2… The elevator only goes down to B1, so having to use the stairs was inconvenient. 〇 Staff Everyone provided polite service. I especially enjoyed chatting with the staff at breakfast. I bought some recommended Tsukuba udon as souvenirs! We even went to the roadside station you told us about (lol). We had such an enjoyable trip this time. Thank you very much.

Accommodation with No Send-Off Service
I did not make this Reservation expecting a luxury Ryokan, so I anticipated some aging Facilities, but it has been a long time since I experienced something this bad. On arrival, there was no one in the lobby and no bell; unless we called out loudly multiple times, no one came—it seemed they were absorbed in chatting. After payment, there was no send-off; again, no one was in the lobby, and we left the Accommodation feeling lonely. The toilet in the Room smelled like a public restroom and was almost unusable. The large public bath smelled bad—like a drain. There was some kind of artificial tatami-like mat laid out in the large public bath; hair got caught in it and it did not feel hygienic. There were no hairbrushes in either the large public bath or the Room. For breakfast, I would have liked at least fruit or yogurt. I do not need almond tofu. The bedding in the Room had only a pad as the mattress; I had to redo it myself. The pantry door of the lobby café area was left open, which is not good. For dinner dessert, zenzai alone would be fine instead of “cream zenzai”; the cream tasted too much like a mass-produced product and did not match at all. There was nothing on the rooftop—just an empty rooftop with a nice view. Putting shoes into and taking them out of the shoe lockers is entirely self-service, so name labels are attached to them (perhaps there is no attendant). It felt like there were no experienced service staff members here; even if you renovate the Facilities, without an environment for training staff you would also need to invest in people—which seems tough. The hospitality—the attitude of trying to make guests comfortable—did not come across at all. Because it is close to my home, I hoped it could be an Accommodation I could repeat—but there will be no next time. The only saving grace was that dinner was delicious. The vegetables were fresh, and I rediscovered some of Ibaraki’s appeal. As for items sold inside: local beer sold on-site was more than 200 yen cheaper at the ropeway rest house nearby. On the other hand, chocolate was 40 yen cheaper here—the pricing remains puzzling. I bought shichimi from Jinbashi-tei; since their shop is next door, I hope (surely) it’s priced the same here as well. The rusks are also not very good despite being recommended—I find Gateau Festa Harada far better. A lot happened, and writing all these details in your questionnaire felt exhausting, so I am writing them here instead. I do not think this is an Accommodation that should be introduced on IKYU.com.

The room was very nice, but the service felt a bit rushed.
This was my first stay. We were in a special Room on the 5th floor, so the location was excellent, the furnishings were lovely, and we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. The lobby on the 1st floor is also beautiful. Personally, I felt it could be a bit brighter, but it has a calm, modern atmosphere and you can sense the character of this long-established Ryokan. However, there was no welcome at all—unless we spoke up first at the front desk, they didn’t notice us. We were also kept waiting for guidance to our Room, and overall the service (including meal service) did not feel warm. None of the dishes seemed freshly prepared. The soup bowl and fried items were cold. It was disappointing because the ingredients themselves were good. We upgraded to beef cooked on a ceramic hot plate, but there were only two small pieces of meat, so in hindsight we didn’t need to upgrade. Given other Reviews saying the service was good, I’m not sure what to think. Does the level of service vary by day? This stay ended up being disappointing. Note: There are no towels or bath towels provided in the large public bath area—please bring them from your Room and take them back with you afterward.

Highly satisfied! It was a fun trip.
At this historic Ryokan, we were able to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace in our guest room. Each dish was truly delicious. After the meal, we soaked in the Onsen and felt wonderfully warm all over. We visited to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and I was just as satisfied! If we have the chance, we’d love to come again.

Frog-themed merchand...
Frog-themed merchandise was incredibly cute, and it was easy to buy souvenirs. The staff kindly provided helpful information about sightseeing. I would love to visit again!

I had a relaxing stay.
We visited during Obon to relax nearby. The special Room was very lovely, and the meal portions were appropriate and delicious. However, there were three disappointing points. During our meal, someone entered the Room under the guise of a "surprise" (we had already confirmed that only futons would be fine). After returning to the Room post-meal, additional sweets were placed there, which was genuinely unsettling. It felt like someone entered without our consent in an unexpected situation. Additionally, used tea packs were left in the tea waste container in the Room. The indoor Onsen was pleasantly hot but had a sewage smell due to its age, which diminished its relaxing atmosphere. We are hesitant about repeating our stay here again.

Family of 3
The service was very polite. There were foreign staff members, but they kindly spoke to us, making our stay very comfortable. The sashimi at dinner was delicious, but the breakfast portion was modest compared to other accommodations... Amenities felt minimal. However, as we had a 1-year-old child with us, they flexibly provided items like a Bumbo seat, dishes, rice, and even warmed baby food for us! The onsen was relaxing and the foot bath in the lobby was also delightful! Thank you very much!

Dinner service was significantly delayed.
The accommodation was beautifully maintained while preserving its historical charm, and the room was very comfortable. The public bath was small but not crowded, making it a pleasant experience. However, the dinner service took far too long. After the initial cold dishes and sashimi were served, tempura, soup, meat dishes, rice with miso soup, and dessert followed—but each took 15 to 30 minutes to arrive. By the time the tempura arrived, it had already cooled down and hardened. Wasn’t it supposed to be served hot? Additionally, over 20 minutes after receiving the meat dish, we asked when the rice would come; they seemed surprised that it hadn’t been served yet and brought it out immediately. It was shocking that there seemed to be no system in place to manage which dishes had been served. While the food itself was delicious, this poor timing ruined our experience. Despite enjoying the bath and footbath earlier in the evening as a family, we were left exhausted from waiting so long for dinner—both physically and emotionally drained—and couldn’t enjoy anything afterward. Interestingly enough, a table seated an hour after us appeared to receive their meals smoothly without issue. This inconsistency might be something future guests should prepare for when staying here.

The view was excellent.
I visited Mount Tsukuba after a long time and made a reservation because the scenery seemed beautiful. The room was on the 5th floor, and the view was excellent. However, the elevator was slow and narrow, which I felt could be improved. The onsen had a hot indoor bath and a lukewarm outdoor bath. The stairs leading to the women's onsen in the basement were steep, making it very challenging for my elderly parent to use. It would be nice if there were options like switching between men's and women's baths in the morning and evening or alternating monthly for more flexibility. Dinner was delicious and luxurious, but breakfast lacked main dishes, leaving me unsatisfied (perhaps because my expectations were raised by dinner). The staff's hospitality was commendable, with even foreign staff working hard to provide good service.

Warm hospitality and delicious meals
Aiming for the Plum Festival, I headed to Mount Tsukuba. A colleague working in Tsukuba recommended a place for dinner around Mount Tsukuba, saying "The dinner here is delicious," which was the deciding factor. The taste lived up to its reputation. It was a Multiple Night Stay, and both meals were very delicious. The tea provided in the Room was delicious green tea from Ippodo, which greatly satisfied me, and I was also pleased that you could drink Saza Coffee at the café. When I consulted with the front desk, they kindly brought coffee from the café to the footbath area. Moreover, I appreciated the pleasant customer service with an appropriate sense of distance. There was unobtrusive attention to detail that made for a comfortable stay (there wasn't excessive conversation initiated by them, but they responded sincerely when asked questions by us; also, all staff members had a good atmosphere and coordination).

Labor shortage
No one came out when I arrived. I was disappointed as it wasn't worth the price. I thought it would be fine with IKYU!

It is right in front of Tsukubasan Shrine.
There is Tsukuba-san Shrine right in front of the building. The staff at the Stays were all polite and smiling, which made me feel good. The dining venue was spaced out from other guests, so it didn't bother me at all. Dinner seemed to be carefully prepared one by one and was delicious. However, I felt that the serving time was a bit late. It might have been because we were drinking alcohol, so they were observing us. Breakfast was a bit lacking. Grilled seaweed, natto, and hot tofu felt a bit bland. Also, I enjoyed using the indoor and outdoor baths, but I felt that it might be tough for those with bad knees to have to go down one floor by stairs to reach the bath. The Room and other areas were very clean, and I think it is a pleasant Property. There was also a foot bath in the lobby.

I had a very comfortable stay. I would like to visit again.
I think it is a very good Hotel. Above all, the staff were very pleasant. The Room was also clean. I requested a spacious Japanese-style room, and although sometimes shoji screens and transoms can be dusty, it was clean without any of that. The lobby library cafe has a mountain lodge feel and is modern and very lovely. The footbath was also enjoyable. Even though we didn't request it, we were given a private room for our meal. We were able to enjoy it leisurely with our family. I also think the system where you can receive the amenities you want for children without waste is good. It is close to the city center and has a ropeway and shrine, so the location is good. I thought it was a very well-balanced Hotel. My husband also liked it, and we would definitely like to visit again.
