A calm, traditional Ryokan with a long-established heritage.

The Accommodation Fee was reasonably priced for this season, so I didn’t have high expectations, but it was a very good Ryokan that truly showed the strength of a long-established property. In particular, the meals were not an ordinary kaiseki course; we thoroughly enjoyed a delicious course centered on Koshu beef. It was a menu that left a stronger impression than standard kaiseki. All staff were friendly and consistently attentive in their service. I have stayed at several other Ryokan in Isawa, but I would definitely consider Tokiwa Hotel again on my next visit. As for the Onsen, I would have been able to relax even more if the open-air bath had been a bit larger, as it felt somewhat small. Regarding the Room, although it is an older Ryokan, everything was well maintained, and the bathroom areas were spotless and comfortable. Given the excellent value and reasonable Accommodation Fee, I have no complaints—it felt like the result of dedicated management efforts. Thank you very much.

    The Wi‑Fi is unusable.

The Room Wi‑Fi signal is too weak to be usable, so I hope it will be improved. The lobby connection is relatively stable. All-you-can-eat ice cream in the bath area, unlimited soft drinks in the lobby, and the free evening snack (azuki hoto noodles and inari sushi) were a nice touch!

    Overall, I am satisfied.

Our family of four stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. The baths include one large public bath and one open-air bath that alternate between men and women, plus one private bath available for an additional fee (JPY 3,300/40 minutes felt a bit expensive). Onsen water is also supplied to the unit bath in each Room, so you can enjoy Onsen in your Room even though it is a unit bath—this is a great advantage. We hoped to enjoy the baths after check-out, but while the official website stated that cleaning is from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, in reality it was from 11:00 AM to 2:45 PM—almost the same as check-in time—so we couldn’t take a relaxing soak during that free window with the baths essentially to ourselves. Even when the Accommodation was nearly fully booked, the baths were not very crowded and we were able to use them anytime. For dinner, we had Koshu beef sukiyaki on the first night and shabu-shabu on the second night. However, on the shabu-shabu menu, after the main shabu-shabu course and four kinds of sushi were served—and we were already almost full—a marbled grilled beef dish made from Koshu beef trimmings came out at the end. Unfortunately, none of our family of four (including our third-year junior high school son and first-year junior high school daughter) could finish it and we left some behind. We felt that this grilled beef would be better served earlier in the meal. The staff ranged widely in age—from older employees to very young staff who seemed like recent graduates—and although it was peak Obon holiday season, there were enough staff for the number of guests, and everyone treated us courteously. Thanks to you, we were able to relax during Obon by soaking in Onsen and feel refreshed. Thank you very much.

My husband and I stayed here together. The staff were very kind, and there happened to be a fireworks display, so they kindly added us to the Shuttle Service at short notice, which allowed us to enjoy it. The Onsen and the meals were both excellent. However, during dinner we were seated at the table in the far corner, and the light bulb above was out, so it was disappointing that the food didn’t look as appetizing as it should have. We would love to visit again if we have the opportunity!

    A Long-Awaited Trip

I chose this place for my first trip in a while. The Room was more spacious than I expected, and I liked the Facility and amenities—they had a charming, long-established feel. One small downside was that the bath towels provided in the Room didn’t smell very fresh.

    Koshu beef is delicious!

The private bath was spacious and very relaxing. However, I would have liked at least 50 minutes. The Koshu beef for dinner was very delicious. The beef bowl for breakfast was also excellent. I’d like to visit again if I have the chance.

    A great-value Hotel

This was my third stay, and it’s truly impressive how great the facilities, meals, and service are for the price. As you’d expect from a Hotel known for Koshu beef, there’s plenty of delicious meat. I’ve also gotten used to how to enjoy the beef bowl in the morning and can adjust it to my liking now. First-timers might be surprised, but you’ll get hooked. I’d love to come again.

    Hospitality

After visiting Mitsumine Shrine, we crossed the mountains into Yamanashi and fully enjoyed a wonderful Onsen in Isawa Onsen. The next day, we went cherry picking and had a truly fulfilling weekend. From the moment we asked to park our car before check-in, the staff were incredibly helpful. Everyone we met in the hotel welcomed us with warm smiles and excellent service, making our stay very comfortable. We also appreciated the complimentary coffee and soft drinks in the lobby lounge. It’s a bit of a walk from Isawa-Onsen Station, but the meals were delicious, and above all, the hospitality-focused service was outstanding!

I was able to stay at a great price thanks to an IKYU sale. I’m glad I could stay at Isawa Onsen with breakfast, dinner, and a late-night snack included for this price. It was my first time trying the waters at Isawa Onsen, and they were very soft and soothing. I also had a shiatsu massage, which felt amazing—I almost fell asleep. The meals were delicious too, and I was happy to have gyudon in the morning. I’d love to stay again.

This Ryokan is very refreshing and pleasant.

We had a very comfortable stay. All the staff were kind and refreshingly attentive, and we were very satisfied. The Onsen is an alkaline simple spring, with a temperature that felt just right—refreshing to soak in, yet nicely warming. The bath area is spacious, so you can relax and take your time. The only disappointment was that the water flow from some of the faucets was weak depending on the location. While the other Facilities are not new or luxurious, they are well maintained and have a pleasant feel. We chose the Standard Plan, and the portion sizes were just right for us as a couple in our 70s. Since this Accommodation promotes Koshu beef, we felt we might have been even more satisfied with a higher-tier Plan to fully enjoy it. Although it was an affordable Plan, meals were served in a calm setting rather than buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner, so we felt it offered good value for money. Above all, what pleased us most about this Accommodation was how well the staff took care of us throughout our stay.

The food and service are excellent.

There are several Onsen Hotels around Isawa, but the cuisine and service here are top-class. The free drink server, complimentary ice cream at the Onsen, late-night azuki hoto noodles and inari sushi, and the meals—both dinner and breakfast—were luxurious kaiseki courses. Not offering a buffet sets this Hotel apart from others. The staff also provide courteous service, which leaves a great impression.

Use during the Golden Week holiday period

This was our first stay during Golden Week, traveling as three generations with our two elementary-school daughters. Not only the front desk staff, but also the housekeeping team and the Shuttle Service drivers showed outstanding hospitality, making our stay truly pleasant. (It also felt rare these days that all the staff we encountered were Japanese.) In particular, the driver was very kind to our children, shared local information during the ride, and even took us to nearby Facilities around the Hotel, which really warmed our hearts. The Room was thoroughly cleaned, and it was comfortable with an air purifier running. While it is not a new Facility, it is a calm and wonderful Hotel.

    Extremely comfortable

It was a Hotel where I could truly relax! I usually enjoy the spa, karaoke, and the game corner, but this time I did nothing—soaked in the Onsen, stopped by the drink corner to unwind, read nonstop at the comic corner (comics I’d been wanting to read for a while), smiled at my favorite artist’s autograph, ate delicious meals when it was time, enjoyed a tasty late-night snack, and then went back to the Onsen again... Having a convenience store next door was also very handy, and in the end, one of the female staff members at the entrance was so kind. After taking a photo of my husband and me together, she and a male staff member waved until our car was completely out of sight. I’ve been to Isawa several times, but this was a Hotel I really loved. I want to go again.

    We enjoyed our stay again.

This was my third visit, hoping to see the spring cherry blossoms and a paradise of peach blossoms. Unfortunately, the cherry blossoms were already over, and the peach blossoms too... Still, I decided to tour some wineries. When I asked if there were any within walking distance after leaving my car at the Hotel, they even provided Shuttle Service. I enjoyed tastings, bought several bottles, and had a wonderful time. Thank you very much. I also appreciated being able to have coffee at the free drink corner in the lobby. In the evening, there was complimentary inari sushi and azuki hoto noodle soup service, and feeding the carp was also possible—everything was great fun. The gyudon at breakfast was delicious as well, making this a very satisfying trip.

    Specialized Accommodation

Although the open-air bath is small and the building feels old, the meals and the staff’s service more than made up for it. Overall, my satisfaction was a perfect 10/10. The free drinks corner and the late-night snacks handed out in the evening—inarizushi and hoto zenzai—were so tasty that I could still enjoy them even when I was already full. The Onsen also had a pleasantly smooth quality unique to Isawa, and I loved the ice pops kept in the complimentary refrigerator. It almost felt too good to be true for such a reasonable price—an Accommodation I was very happy with.

Thank you for hosting us during our workcation.

We stayed here for a workcation. As requested in advance, they prepared a Room with a large desk for work, so I was able to focus on my job while my husband relaxed in the Room just as we had hoped. The Onsen’s open-air bath felt a little small, but it was great that it’s available all night. We enjoyed it during quieter hours. The building is undeniably old (the toilet in our Room didn’t flush well, so I hope that can be fixed), but everything was well maintained and the service was excellent. When we mentioned that we wanted to stop by a winery tour on our way back, they even drove us to the point where we could go to the winery after leaving our luggage at the station, which made things very easy. Overall, we felt this Accommodation offers great value for money, and for us it’s well suited to a workcation. We would love to stay again if we have the chance.

This is a very good Hotel.

We made a last-minute Reservation and stayed one night as a couple. Since I knew the Tokiwa Hotel in Kofu, I had the impression it would be expensive, but Isawa Tokiwa Hotel is an affordable Hotel with excellent service. The Room was spotless—even the floor of the bathtub was thoroughly cleaned, which felt great. We enjoyed the free ice cream after bathing, as well as the complimentary late-night snack: azuki hoto and inari sushi, all of which were delicious. Dinner was a Koshu beef course; it wasn’t a particularly high-end course, but we were very satisfied with both the taste and portion size. For breakfast, in addition to white rice, you can also choose gyudon—it was so good I ended up eating too much. The staff’s attentiveness was just right—not too much and not too little. The samue loungewear was also nice, but my only complaint (personal preference) is that the pillow was too soft and hard to use; it would be great if guests could choose their preferred type. I’m almost hesitant to praise it too much because it might become harder to get a Reservation, but I think it’s well worth staying for one night. I’d like to visit again in September.

    It was a great accommodation.

This was a trip with my parents. As their legs have weakened, it has become difficult for them to go to the large public bath, so having an Onsen in the Room was a huge help. The in-room sofa also seated four, so we could relax comfortably. We had a Multiple Night Stay, and they kindly took care with our dinner on the second night—it was very delicious, and we truly enjoyed the meal. My mother had told me my father usually doesn’t eat much, but he ate a lot this time, which was reassuring. Above all, the hospitality of all the staff was wonderful. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

It was a highly satisfying accommodation.

We stayed as three families. They arranged Rooms next to each other, and since we had mentioned in advance that we were celebrating a birthday, they kindly accommodated us in various ways. We were happy to feel that the Accommodation was celebrating with us as well. We were on the top floor (6th floor), so the view was great. The meals felt a little lacking in both quality and quantity, but considering the price, our overall satisfaction was high. The Koshu beef they highlight was delicious across the board. The Onsen is clear and odorless, so it may not feel very “Onsen-like,” but it left our skin smooth and silky, and we could really tell the water quality was good. The ice cream after bathing was also a nice touch. The private bath seemed to have just been renovated—it was very clean, with a spacious tub—and it’s also free-flowing from the source, which made us extremely satisfied. With complimentary drinks and even complimentary late-night snacks, it was an Accommodation with excellent value for money. Everyone traveling with us said they were satisfied too. We don’t usually stay at Accommodations in this price range, but we were very satisfied with their attentiveness to guests and overall service. We’d love to visit again.

I couldn’t post my long review because it seems to have included a prohibited word, and I don’t know which word it was, so I’ve uploaded the full text as a photo. Thank you very much for your wonderful support. The meals and the Facility were excellent. We’d love to stay again.

I traveled to see the illuminations on "Sakura Onsen Street." The sight of the continuous illuminations was breathtaking. Haiku works are also displayed in a row, and I found them quite enjoyable as well. I chose this hotel because it offers private onsen baths. The new bath facilities were very satisfying. As mentioned in other reviews, the hospitality is excellent. The room had no inconveniences. However, the bathroom in the room felt a bit lacking. Meals were decent and fall into the delicious category overall. Dishes featuring Koshu beef were particularly tasty, providing a sense of satisfaction. The accommodation fee is reasonable. Given its reasonable price, I can't help but rate it five out of five stars! It’s an accommodation experience that exceeds its cost!

    A New Year's classic.

I have been spending New Year's at this accommodation for the past few years. The facility is old but very well-maintained. It seems to be undergoing gradual renovations, and this time the hallway had a stylish new look. The outdoor bath was too hot for a long soak, but the indoor bath was pleasantly lukewarm, allowing me to relax. Perhaps due to exhaustion from the busy year-end, I ended up sleeping for 10 hours straight after taking a bath at night. The ice bar service in the changing room is also a nice touch. However, it was slightly inconvenient that drinking water was only available outside of the bath area (my elderly mother felt slightly dehydrated after bathing and we had to go outside to get water). The meals were plentiful both in the morning and evening; I couldn’t finish the grilled beef on lava stone served at dinner. For breakfast, there was beef rice bowl with dashi broth available on the counter so I could enjoy it as ochazuke halfway through—it was delicious until the last bite! I always look forward to having azuki bean houtou noodles as a late-night snack; please continue playing enka music ("Isawa Waga Machi") during this time as it’s one of my favorite parts of staying here!

    The private bath was excellent.

The newly built private bath was very clean and excellent. However, other areas felt a bit outdated, but this part was outstanding. On the other hand, the meals were disappointing. Especially the tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet) at breakfast—it was dry! The soft rice from the previous day was served again for breakfast, which was also disappointing.

    Hot Spring for Beautiful Skin

Isawa Onsen offers an exceptional hot spring experience with its renowned water quality. The spacious public bath was very relaxing, and the only improvement would be a slightly larger open-air bath. The meal featuring Koshu beef was well-prepared and delicious, including even a beef bowl for breakfast, making it very cost-effective. The staff provided excellent service, ensuring a pleasant stay. I would love to visit again.

    The Perfect Journey

For my first trip to Yamanashi, I planned it for my own birthday and chose Tokiwa Hotel as my accommodation! Honestly, from check-in to check-out, everything was beyond words—simply amazing! The hotel staff's attentive service was incredibly comforting, especially after arriving exhausted from Aichi. The onsen had a truly authentic and historical feel to it! For dinner, I opted for a plan featuring plenty of Koshu beef, which was absolutely satisfying. Even at breakfast, I enjoyed a Koshu beef bowl—it was pure happiness indulging in so much Koshu beef! I would love to stay here again when traveling to Yamanashi in the future!!

    It was relaxing.

I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay during the summer. Both the meals and the Onsen were absolutely satisfying. I especially enjoyed having gyudon for breakfast and being able to order draft beer in the lobby. The Room was a semi-suite, and while it showed some age, it was well-maintained and clean. Since it was quite spacious, I borrowed a power strip. I also appreciated that the private bath in the Room used Onsen water. I would love to stay here again when visiting Isawa Onsen!

    Overall satisfied!

I have stayed here several times. The Shuttle Service staff and front desk staff are very kind, polite, and friendly, making me want to stay again due to their excellent hospitality! However, the staff serving dinner seem to strictly follow the rules in their service... which makes it feel a bit impersonal every time. While their politeness is commendable, I feel that a little more empathy in their interactions would create a more pleasant experience since it's about people connecting with people. Having worked in customer service myself, I believe that showing compassion can sometimes outweigh strict adherence to rules and leave guests with warmer feelings. Especially at a Ryokan, this seems even more important. On the other hand, the breakfast staff are always warm and welcoming! Overall, it was a wonderful Ryokan that made for an incredibly satisfying trip! Thank you so much—I look forward to staying again.
