    A Hotel worth staying at for the view alone

    I have stayed at many Hotels and Ryokan with ocean views, but this was one of the most memorable. The views from the Room and the open-air bath were outstanding—thanks to the Hotel’s hilltop location with nothing obstructing the scenery, as well as the serene beauty of the Seto Inland Sea itself. There are very few man-made structures nearby, and the landscape created by the scattered islands is truly stunning. In the distance, we could see bridges of the Shimanami Kaido and parts of Imabari’s townscape, while boats passing below from time to time added a lovely touch to the view. I felt this Hotel is well worth staying at even just to relax and take in this scenery. Because it was listed as “Casual” on IKYU, I initially imagined a standard Hotel that simply highlights its views. In reality, however, we experienced warm, unpretentious hospitality from all staff members. Dinner was not a typical set menu; it showed thoughtful creativity throughout and was delicious. Breakfast was buffet-style, and in particular, I still remember how wonderful the locally harvested blueberries were. This time we rented a car at Hiroshima Station: on our first night we stayed at a Ryokan on Etajima; on day two we toured Takehara before taking a ferry over and enjoying beautiful Setouchi island views from Mount Kamimine prior to check-in. The next day we visited Okunoshima to spend time with its rabbits, then headed home via Mihara to Hiroshima Airport. The Hotel was also extremely convenient as a base for sightseeing routes starting from Hiroshima City toward Kure, Takehara, and Mihara—and we were fully satisfied with every aspect: scenery, dining, and hospitality.

    The island’s unique appeal is that it can only be reached by boat.

    The journey from Imabari was wonderful, with views of islands and bridges along the way. On the day we arrived, we were lucky to have great weather and could fully enjoy the spectacular scenery from the terrace. When I looked back at my photos the next day, I realized I hadn’t taken a single picture because it was so beautiful. On our way back, we were kindly driven to the ferry terminal for Takehara; there were many people there and ferries ran very frequently, which made me feel this island is quite familiar to people in Hiroshima. The twin Room felt quite dated, and there was such a big step up at the toilet entrance that you couldn’t get in without a step stool. The price has gone up significantly after being featured on TV as a “hotel with spectacular views,” so it may be best to think of it as “island pricing.” I really appreciated that we could stay one person per Room—my companion wanted air conditioning while I wanted heating on the same day. Since many Onsen Ryokan do not accept solo stays, it’s great that solo travelers are accommodated here. The most disappointing part was that the samue loungewear was very rough—so much so that it hurt and felt extremely uncomfortable. There were no tabi socks provided, and they said there were no other yukata options either. I stay at Onsen accommodations almost every month, and some places provide everything—pajamas, yukata, and samue. Even casual accommodations sometimes provide socks or let you choose between samue and yukata. Since this is an island, I wondered if they try to avoid generating too much laundry in various areas. If you have sensitive skin, I recommend bringing your own loungewear. The foreign staff worked very hard, but they couldn’t respond beyond what’s in their manual, so it was a bit disappointing that I couldn’t ask about ingredients or about the island itself. Instead, I asked many questions at the front desk and really enjoyed hearing about local industries and people on the island. Thank you very much for your courteous help despite being busy. At breakfast, the Japanese male staff member who guided guests at the entrance was excellent—he paid close attention to everything around him. When he saw guests being told to choose any seat they liked, he immediately let them know about available window seats and cleared tables efficiently. The views from both the bath area and terrace were amazing. If prices become more reasonable, I’d love to stay for about two nights and explore more of the island. It may be difficult to arrange, but I think it would be even better if there were tours or small talk sessions where guests could learn more about life on the island.

    Spectacular Views

    We visited on a three-generation family trip. On the day, strong winds caused the ferry from Shikoku to be canceled. Because we were traveling from far away, the Hotel called to inform us, which we really appreciated. Fortunately, we had planned to come via a port on the Honshu side, so we arrived safely, but their thoughtfulness made us happy. We had two Japanese-style Rooms next to each other. They were typical Japanese-style Rooms and you could feel their age, but they were very clean and well maintained. The view from the Room window was spectacular. When we woke up early, we could also see the sunrise and start the day feeling refreshed. Dinner was served at table seating in a large banquet hall. It was luxurious with local ingredients, and we were completely full. The staff member serving us chatted with us about various things, which was enjoyable. For the sea bream rice cooked in a pot that we couldn’t finish, they kindly made it into rice balls so we could have it as a late-night snack. It was very delicious even when cold. We caused extra work for them, but we were truly grateful. Breakfast was buffet-style, with a wide variety of dishes and very satisfying. The large public bath also had an amazing view. The washing area was spacious and there was no waiting at all. It was thoroughly cleaned as well, which pleased us. In the early morning bath time, surprisingly many guests were already up early too, and it felt open and relaxing—a wonderful bath. I don’t think the building itself is new, but because everything was kept so clean it was very comfortable and pleasant to stay here. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay. There were many smiles among the staff and they greeted us properly—it’s a Hotel where you can really feel how good their hospitality is.

    Spectacular Views

    I happened to see it on a TV program and made a Reservation on the spot. I stayed in “Yoko.” The Room was spacious, and the view from the large floor-to-ceiling windows was breathtaking, with the ocean stretching out before me. I also enjoyed the sunrise from inside while sipping coffee. It was 2°C outside (lol). The open-air bath attached outside was excellent as well, and I enjoyed it both morning and night. The Hotel’s Onsen was comfortable—not only was the water quality great, but the mist shower felt wonderful too. Dinner was served in a private dining room. Everything was delicious, especially the sashimi. Breakfast was a buffet. It lacked a bit of character, so this part felt slightly underwhelming.

    I had a quiet and relaxing stay.

    The meals and the bath were excellent. During dinner, we ordered sake and local craft beer, and the staff gave us a thoughtful explanation, which made the food even more enjoyable. 　After dinner, we stopped by the bar counter and enjoyed interesting conversation with the friendly bartender as well as an original cocktail. By chance, a guest sitting next to us said they had come to stay specifically for the bartender. 　Our Room was on the ocean side, so it was wonderful to simply relax and do nothing while watching boats pass by. However, we stayed from Sunday to Monday, and there were quite a few guests. Perhaps it would have been even busier on Saturday. 　If possible, I’d like to visit again on a weekday.

    The view from the Room... a luxury cruise ship.

    We were very satisfied with the delicious fish dishes, especially the simmered yellowtail head and bones, which was outstanding. When we stayed before, my husband raved about the simmered rockfish, and that led us to book this stay. The Room was a little too spacious for two people, but with the curtains fully open, the view felt as if we were floating on the sea—wonderful. However, we couldn’t choose our pillows, and neither of us slept well. Also, this is just a personal preference: although the bed sheets were very clean, they felt extremely soft from laundering. I prefer crisp sheets. The bed was a Simmons. The bath was clean and relaxing. Thank you very much.

    A Room for a Luxurious Stay

    We stayed in the Deluxe Twin "Yoko" Room. The spaciousness, decor, furnishings, and amenities were all luxurious and impressive. Spending time enjoying the beautiful Seto Inland Sea view and savoring fresh seafood and mountain delicacies in a separate dining room was truly blissful. The relaxing onsen with ocean views was wonderful, but we were surprised to find that all showerheads and hairdryers were from ReFa. While the limited number of staff meant that service upon arrival by car at the entrance or during check-in at the front desk could be improved, we appreciated the sincerity of all staff members, especially those from overseas. Although it is located far from the port, it is an accommodation we would like to visit again. I even sent an enthusiastic email about it to my friend who is originally from this island. The miso soup served at breakfast was incredibly delicious; when I mentioned this, they told me there are still many more local delicacies to discover on the island. I look forward to encountering new flavors next time!

    Year-end and New Year Use

    It cost 30,000 yen per night with one meal during the New Year holidays, but I think it offers better value compared to Ryokans in the Kanto region. The view is breathtaking, so it's worth visiting at least once.

    The meals were delic...

    The meals were delicious, the Onsen had a great view, and we had a pleasant stay. Being from within the prefecture, we are familiar with the Seto Inland Sea scenery, but it still struck us as a picturesque and beautiful view. The only downside was that the futon was slightly thin. A mattress would have made it more comfortable. Overall, we were satisfied.

    Stunning Open-Air Hot Spring

    I made the Reservation without knowing it was the No.1 scenic Onsen, but later found out online and experienced the amazing open-air bath with a stunning view as per its reputation. The sofa in the Japanese-style twin room, facing the sea, became my favorite spot, and I spent my entire stay at the Hotel from check-in at 3:30 PM to check-out at 10:00 AM. The quality of the meals was also excellent. I will definitely use this Hotel again.

    Services and facilities are satisfactory. Just one thing...

    The staff were very warm and welcoming, making for a great stay. The bath, especially the open-air bath in the women's section, was exceptional with a rare openness and a close view of the Seto Inland Sea. Since the accommodation is located on a hill away from the port, we didn't go for walks due to steep slopes in the area. However, there is a pleasant terrace in the lobby where you can relax and enjoy views of the sea. The building isn't new, so you might hear some noise from the hallways; keeping this in mind may enhance your satisfaction. Personally, it didn't bother me much. What I found most disappointing is that this place occasionally gets featured on TV, and every time it seems like the Accommodation Fee increases accordingly.

    Stunning Views

    Stunning views and exquisite cuisine, with an open-air bath in the infinity Onsen where you can relax while gazing at the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. The outdoor sauna was great, but it was a bit disappointing that there were no relaxation chairs, leaving only the option to lean against a pillar. A Hotel I would love to visit again.

    Stunning Views and Dining

    The room and the breathtaking view from the bath were just as described in the reviews. Every meal was incredibly delicious, especially the abalone. Breakfast was so good that I ended up eating too much. The staff's hospitality was heartfelt and warm. I loved the ReFa hair dryer in the bath and felt like buying one myself. This is a hotel I would love to visit again.

    We created the best memories!

    We stayed at the accommodation to celebrate my father's 77th birthday. He happened to see it on TV and made a reservation without much research, but it far exceeded our expectations! First, the food was exceptional. The sea bream from the Seto Inland Sea was outstanding. Every dish was visually and tastefully delightful, and both the celebratory sea bream and fruits brought great joy to my father. The open-air bath with its sense of freedom was also wonderful; we enjoyed it both in the morning and at night. It was surprising that all showers and hairdryers were from ReFa. Although I couldn't participate, there were activities like tennis and swimming for children to enjoy as well. If I may make a suggestion, having more indoor activities like table tennis would be nice. That said, taking a ferry ride while experiencing an extraordinary atmosphere, relaxing at such a lovely accommodation, and celebrating in such a memorable way made for an unforgettable experience. Thank you so much! We hope to visit again soon!

    Summer Vacation Trip for Three Generations

    It was a 2-night, 3-day summer vacation trip with 15 family members. The Room for five people was very spacious, and the sunrise view was stunning. The view of the Seto Inland Sea from the open-air bath was also amazing, and everything was impeccably clean. All the staff were kind and made our stay pleasant. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of dishes, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The abalone served at dinner was delicious. We would love to visit again—thank you!

    The view from the Ro...

    The view from the Room was amazing. The view from the open-air bath was also stunning, and I enjoyed bathing three times. The meals were plentiful and incredibly delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. While the Facility felt a bit old, the Room was very clean, allowing me to relax while enjoying the ocean view. It was a perfect one-night, two-day trip!

    The bath has been newly renovated for your enjoyment.

    This was my third stay, and it was my first time using a Room with a bed. The space was ample and comfortable. The bathroom has been renovated, featuring the latest showerheads and hairdryers, making it very relaxing. The view of the Seto Inland Sea from the bathtub is always soothing no matter how many times I see it. As for meals, while the sashimi was delicious, other dishes were numerous but about average for a Ryokan. I also visited the bar that occasionally opens; however, unfortunately, the cocktails were not as exceptional as during my previous visit.

    Simply the best, even with nothing.

    The view from the bath is stunning, ranked number one in the whole country, so I visited with my parents. Although it’s on a remote island, the ferry ride is just long enough to enjoy without getting bored. Ferries run approximately every 30 minutes, so there’s no need to worry about timing. From the room, you can see a panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea with ships passing by—it's mesmerizing and you could spend hours just gazing at it. It’s truly relaxing. The meals are all delicious and satisfying in portion size. During our multiple night stay, everything except for sashimi was changed on the menu each day. Everything was incredibly tasty and perfect. Enjoying delicious food while soaking in an onsen with breathtaking views made for an ideal holiday. The staff are all kind and provide helpful information when asked. There are many foreign staff members as well, but their Japanese is excellent so communication was never an issue. My favorite part was a painting of underwater coral displayed in the lobby. I’ve already made another reservation for my next visit!

    An open-air bath with a breathtaking ocean view is a true reward in life.

    I extended my trip after work this time and decided to visit. The journey by ferry itself was exciting, but the breathtaking view of the Seto Inland Sea truly left me in awe. The sea and sky visible from the Hotel's open-air bath are mesmerizing and could be admired endlessly. The food is also delicious. Although traveling without a car was challenging for me, the Hotel staff kindly provided Shuttle Service from the port, allowing me to experience a slice of island life. Visiting Mitarai District on Shimokamijima Island next door was also worthwhile, though managing time with the ferry schedule was a bit tricky. Additionally, at Okamoto Soy Sauce Shop near Shiramizuko Port, you can tour their brewery for free and hear interesting stories—their soy sauce is delightful too! Lastly, the historical district in Takehara on the opposite shore is remarkable as well. I had an incredibly satisfying experience overall!

    When I went to the bath in the morning, the temperature of the open-air bath was too low to use, which was disappointing. Everything else was great. We used a private bath as a couple, and it was wonderful. Highly recommend using it during daylight hours.

    It was great.

    My wife and I stayed at the accommodation recently. We arrived on the island earlier than planned by taking an earlier ferry. The view from the accommodation was fantastic. Dinner was delicious, and breakfast exceeded our expectations with clam miso soup and local ingredients, which were very tasty. Highly recommended!

    I feel rejuvenated every time!

    I visited with excitement, starting from taking the ferry across the Shimanami Kaido. This time, I stayed with my family. The room was spacious and very comfortable. I enjoyed delicious seasonal dishes and soaked in the bath while admiring the beautiful scenery of many islands, allowing me to spend a precious day relieving my daily fatigue. I wonder which season I should visit next time~.

    I stayed last year and visited to see the wonderful scenery. Due to feeling uncomfortable with the service last year, I considered changing to another property and made reservations for one night each. However, since the weather was good, I decided to stay for two nights. At check-in, a woman at the front desk questioned my decision to make separate reservations for each night, only explaining the checkout payment process without any other information. Important matters such as towel exchanges, trash bins, dishes, and bed-making during multiple night stays should be communicated to guests. When I mentioned this to the front desk, they provided minimal response and apologized through the cleaning staff. It was not the fault of the cleaning staff, but rather the lack of explanation at the front desk. After cleaning, I was told, "I put something more expensive in the refrigerator than usual," which made me feel very uncomfortable. At checkout the next morning, I was told, "We will offer a drink service during the second night's dinner." It seems they did not understand why the guest complained at all. Of course, I did not use the refrigerator and paid for the drinks. The room I stayed in for two nights was recommended by the property, with a very wonderful view, a sauna for two people, and a semi-open-air wooden bath where you can enjoy the scenery while bathing. However, there are many stairs and steps in the room, which require caution for elderly guests. The route from the indoor shower and sauna to the semi-open-air bath requires passing through the living room, which can be inconvenient. It seems this property was selected as having the best view in Japan. In the future, the response of regular employees should improve, and guests with feelings similar to mine will no longer exist, allowing for a pleasant stay.

    Very unfortunate

    I had a good experience staying for one night last year, so this time I visited for a multiple night stay. At the front desk, I was told that since I made a reservation for each night separately, payment would be cash only at the front desk upon checkout. I was informed of the dinner time reserved in advance, but there were no other special explanations. Another staff member guided me to the room, and the living room table was gritty with something like sugar, so I wiped it again with a wet tissue. There was no explanation at all about room cleaning or towel exchange during a multiple night stay. On the second day, I returned from going out, expecting the room to be cleaned and looking forward to taking a bath, but the wet towels and trash bin were left as they were. When I immediately contacted the front desk, I was told that unless requested, nothing would be exchanged or replenished on the second night, and I was very disappointed by the lack of explanation. This was not stated in the room's notes either. Even in a business hotel, such explanations are properly given. It seems that this property has been recognized as having the best view in Japan, and the scenery was indeed good, which is why I revisited and stayed for two nights. However, I must say that the explanation to guests was insufficient, and the customer service awareness was low. It's very disappointing given the beautiful scenery.

    Spectacular view. A room with an open-air bath, definitely!

    I stayed for one night in a room with an open-air bath with my elderly mother. The room was spacious and modern, allowing us to relax comfortably. I thought it was barrier-free, but there were quite a few steps inside, so my mother, who has bad legs, needed to be careful. It might be difficult to use a wheelchair. As it was ranked first in the Onsen General Election's Scenic View category, both the large public bath and the room's open-air bath offered excellent views, allowing us to see as far as Shikoku and enjoy the beautiful island scenery of the Seto Inland Sea. Dinner was Japanese cuisine centered on seafood, and the fresh sashimi and tomato-flavored chawanmushi were delicious. Breakfast was a buffet, but it was more modest than expected, comparable to a simple city hotel, which was a bit disappointing. However, the coffee cups were warmed, and there was a wide variety of jams, showing efforts within possible limits. There were few considerate parking spaces, and there was no welcome upon arrival, so the first impression was not great. However, the staff at the room service, front desk, and shop were all kind and pleasant, allowing us to have a comfortable stay. Since it is not connected by a bridge, a ferry is necessary, but there are quite a few ferry services. It is recommended for those who want to soak in the onsen and forget the daily fatigue while relaxing.

    Magnificent scenery

    This is my second stay, and I came back to relive the excitement I felt last time with the sashimi and bath. Once again, I was not disappointed. The fresh sashimi that can only be enjoyed here, along with the scenery and onsen, made for a relaxing and superb experience.

    The best scenery and comfortable hospitality

    This time, we used the property for an anniversary trip, and it was a very satisfying stay. We stayed in the "Yoko" room, and the view from the room was breathtakingly beautiful, especially the view at sunset was unforgettable. Also, the creatively crafted dishes were all exquisite, and we looked forward to meal times every time. The staff's response was very pleasant, and we could feel their thoughtfulness in every situation. The cleaning was thorough, and the entire facility was clean and comfortable. What was particularly impressive was the view from the open-air bath in the large public bath. It was the first time I experienced an onsen with such a wonderful view, and I was very moved. Furthermore, I felt the thoughtfulness in the aftercare following our stay, and I realized once again that this is a trustworthy property. I would definitely like to use it again. Thank you for the heartwarming hospitality.
