    You’ll be fully satisfied not only with the Onsen, but also with the meals.

    I originally chose to stay at Yunoyama Onsen because I wanted to relax in the Onsen. The Onsen was wonderfully soothing, and I enjoyed it many times, but to be honest, the meals were even better than expected—exceptionally delicious, with thoughtful touches in each ingredient—so I was just as satisfied, if not more so, than with the Onsen. The welcome drink and shiratama sweets, as well as the sweets café after dinner, were not the kind of “just for show” desserts you often find; they were genuinely delicious sweets, which was another highlight. Since it was summer vacation there were many families with children, and seeing them enjoy the festival games brought back memories of letting my own child play at a similar festival at Ogoto Onsen years ago. The Room was clean, and above all, the hospitality of all the staff was outstanding. I was especially impressed by how hard one international staff member working as a trainee was trying. I would definitely like to stay again—thank you very much.

    Our whole family agrees—we’d love to stay again.

    I stayed here with my parents and my younger sister’s family. After we arrived, we were kindly guided to our Room. It was very clean, and the children were thrilled. When we asked to use the private family bath, they were able to make a Reservation at a perfect time around dinner, so we could relax and enjoy it. The meals were also delicious, and we were very satisfied. I wanted to try the sake and vinegar prepared by the proprietress as well, but things were hectic and I couldn’t—next time I definitely will. Vinegar was served during the meal too, and it was excellent. We also enjoyed the dessert. My child loves origami, and they had origami paper available in the lobby, which made them very happy as they folded it. Our whole family was very satisfied with Shikanoyu Hotel. Thank you very much.

    Overall satisfied; great value for money.

    We chose this Accommodation because it’s an easy trip from Nagoya. To be honest, Yunoyama Onsen feels a bit run-down, but the spring water left our skin silky smooth and the bath was wonderful. The Room had been renovated and was excellent! The massage chair was great too. That said, the age of the Facility is hard to miss—the lobby and souvenir shop atmosphere, and the fact that there’s only one elevator. Still, we could feel their efforts to keep things lively. However, the lighting in the private dining room at the restaurant (Toge Chaya) was too dim. The room felt gloomy and didn’t have a pleasant atmosphere. The food tasted good, but nothing really stood out; it felt somewhat plain overall, and a more colorful presentation would make it even better. All of the staff were cheerful, and we were glad we could relax without any pressure at this Accommodation.

    Bliss

    Parking guidance, the welcome drink, hospitality, the Onsen, the Room, the cuisine, the dessert buffet, the café, the service, and the view—everything was outstanding. The appetizers and sashimi were delicate and refined, with a luxurious feel, and everything tasted truly delicious. We made a Reservation for the hot pot course; with two sons and my husband who eats a lot, we were worried about portion sizes, but it was even more impressive than in the photos—generous and filling—and everyone was completely satisfied. Breakfast was also very lavish. Also, it’s about a 5-minute walk from behind the Hotel to the Gozaisho Ropeway station entrance; we were able to go while leaving both our car and luggage at the Hotel. Discount tickets can be purchased at reception. Overall, I’ve never stayed at a Hotel where I felt this comfortable—it was truly wonderful. My mother was also very happy. Thank you very much.

    Why are the Reviews rated so highly?

    This was my first stay, and I don’t think I will stay again. When we arrived by car in front of the Hotel, there was no drop-off area. Although the parking spaces next to the entrance were available, we were instructed to unload our luggage and park in a separate lot down the slope. I mentioned that I have some difficulty walking, but the response was cold. This would be dangerous in winter if there is snow or ice. At check-in, IKYU’s website stated that breakfast was from 7:00 to 8:00, but we were told it had to be either 8:00 or 8:15. The next morning, only one party was dining during the 7 o’clock hour and the venue was otherwise empty, so I don’t understand why we were forced into a specific time without discussion. We were also told dinner would start at 17:30, but because parking took time it was already after 16:10 when we arrived. We wanted to relax in the Onsen first in our Room, so we requested 18:00 instead. After that, guidance to our Room was delayed; when I said I would go on my own, they hurriedly escorted us. At dinner, as soon as we sat down they launched into explaining dishes; they did not take drink orders unless we asked first. We ordered a bottle of wine from Mie Prefecture and were given only the bottle with an ice bucket/cooler (without ice), an opener, an oshibori towel set for self-service use at home rather than for service at a restaurant setting), and glasses that appeared insufficiently cleaned. It cost JPY 7,000; I was shocked that it seemed like a shop-priced bottle (JPY 4,,620) and yet guests had to open it themselves and pour their own drinks from start to finish.. We did not begin eating and waited for replacement glasses; about20 minutes passed after being seated.. Then they brought udon together with new glasses—despite us still waiting without touching any food—so I complained that service should allow guests to enjoy drinks properly before rushing out more dishes.. In the Onsen area as well,, small foot mats were stacked on top of each other,, which is hazardous for people with limited mobility.. The bubble bath ran only until22::00 at night and wasn’t available in morning.. The changing room is cramped with baskets;, during morning bathing there someone suspicious rummaging through baskets,, whomI confronted directly.. There no staff patrols,, so security feels lax..I hope nothing happens,.but still... For families,,, free drinks in lobbyand kids’ corner may be nice., However,,, access guest rooms relies on single small elevator makes rattling noises;, otherwise you must wait or use stairs... For seniors looking forward enjoying good foodand drinks at an Onsen Accommodation,,,I don’t think this place suitable... It also felt like explanations unnecessarily long mainlyto make guests follow Hotel instructions without options—though whether that comes across as polite depends on person... Thank you for your hospitality....

    A Cozy Accommodation

    Because we were planning to go to Gozaisho Ski Resort on December 25, we stayed at Shikanoyu Hotel on the 24th. When we arrived, a male staff member kindly guided us to a parking space and helped carry our luggage—thank you very much. We had planned to take the ropeway up Mt. Gozaisho, but unfortunately the ski resort opening was postponed due to a lack of snow, so we didn’t end up riding it. After check-in, we went shopping at a nearby mall. When we returned to the Hotel, I assumed that convenient parking space would have been taken by other guests, but the Hotel had kept it reserved for us, which made us truly happy. Although the building itself is old, our Room had been renovated and was comfortable. The Room wasn’t as spacious as I expected, but it was clean, well equipped with everything we needed, and we were able to relax all day. The women’s large public bath had ReFa shower heads installed, which was great. The open-air bath also felt wonderful. The coffee in the lounge was very delicious as well—I ended up having several cups. If I had to mention one thing, I noticed some dust had accumulated on the Room’s door frame. Thank you very much for taking care of us. It was a satisfying stay.

    Delicious cuisine

    This was my second or third stay at Shikanoyu. It was my first time visiting in winter, and I enjoyed the fugu cuisine course. The deep-fried fugu was absolutely delicious! The staff were polite and attentive, which added to the positive experience. One minor issue was that it got crowded during check-out due to a limited number of staff available. Other than that, everything was perfect—the open-air bath was wonderful, and I loved being able to choose from different shampoos. I would definitely like to stay here again!

    A highly satisfying accommodation.

    The cleanliness of the room and the friendliness of the staff were excellent, and each dish at dinner was incredibly delicious, leaving a great impression of staying at a wonderful accommodation. At this level of satisfaction and price, the age of the building is not an issue. If I have the chance to revisit Yunoyama Onsen, I would wholeheartedly choose to stay at this accommodation again.     It was a decent accommodation.

    The price was around 30,000 yen, making it a reasonable accommodation. The meals followed the current trend of offering a variety of dishes with numerous ingredients. While the effort was evident, the taste of each dish was average overall. However, the sukiyaki with Matsusaka beef was delicious. Breakfast was similar in quality. The room was clean and satisfactory. As for the onsen, whether it’s characteristic of Yunoyama Onsen or due to the hotel's policy, both the indoor and outdoor baths had relatively low water temperatures. It took quite a long soak to warm up properly, which was slightly disappointing.

    A good accommodation.

    Overall, it was a satisfying experience. Despite the common issue of staff shortages in many accommodations, I felt efforts were made to ensure guest satisfaction. From check-in to being guided to the room, everything was smooth and courteous. The front desk staff and dining area staff were also very attentive. The bath was spacious, clean, and very pleasant. I would love to visit again if given the opportunity.

    Wonderful hospitality

    This was our first stay at Shikanoyu Hotel. The room was a 36-square-meter Japanese-Western style room with an open-air bath, accommodating 4 adults and 2 children. It felt spacious, offered a sense of openness, had a beautiful view of the nearby mountains, and featured a very practical layout. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The meals were exquisite dishes crafted with care by the head chef. From the meat to every other dish, everything was delicious and highly satisfying. (The meal consisted of Japanese-Western cuisine served in a private dining room rather than buffet-style, which allowed us to enjoy our meal calmly while seated—a perfect arrangement for us.) The variety of dishes made us want to come back just for the food. Breakfast was also served in a private dining room. The Milky Queen rice from Mie Prefecture was so delicious that we ended up having three servings! After dinner, there is an all-you-can-eat dessert service at the lounge from 7 PM to 9 PM. My husband, who loves sweets, went back for seconds. The hotel interior is thoughtfully designed with various features including "game trees" for children where games can be borrowed. Our family of six had so much fun laughing together while playing. The Onsen water quality was smooth and pleasant—truly relaxing. The staff provided excellent service with bright smiles and warm words that made us feel welcome. We would definitely love to visit this hotel again!

    Highlights with a Touch of Disappointment! Sharing with Supportive Intent!

    Thank you very much for your hospitality during our stay. As my wife cannot eat meat, we had made a special request, and we truly appreciate your accommodating this. We are an elderly couple who enjoy taking small trips by car together. We particularly love staying at Onsen Ryokans, as traditional hot spring towns often have excellent quality Onsen water and many wonderful places to visit. This time was no exception; the spirit of hospitality towards guests was remarkable. The Okami-san (seemingly the manager) appeared to be working very hard, which left a great impression on us. The room's design and interior were well-renovated and satisfying, while the private-style dining area provided an enjoyable meal experience. For the price charged, the level of service offered is outstanding, and we could feel your dedication to providing excellent service—please keep up the good work! However, there were some minor disappointments. Many Ryokans or Business Hotels nowadays employ foreign staff members due to changing times; while this is understandable, I felt that some individuals lacked a sense of true hospitality (though this varies from person to person). This seems to be a common issue across various Onsen establishments I’ve visited recently. I believe employee training for those directly interacting with customers is crucial regardless of nationality—there are indeed exceptional foreign staff members as well—and I hope efforts will continue in this area. Additionally, during dinner service one evening, there was some dissatisfaction with how an issue was handled by our attendant: when my wife's substitute dish (clam) did not open despite waiting for some time due to weak heat from solid fuel burners being used at that moment instead replacing entire pot setup promptly addressing situation properly delayed response led frustration even though she said okay avoid trouble still think separate matter altogether reflects management policies prioritizing cost-cutting over guest satisfaction ultimately affecting overall experience negatively especially considering focus enjoying both cuisine alongside relaxing atmosphere provided through stays like these disappointing aspect worth noting improvement future occasions alike!     I don't think I will...

    I don't think I will be returning in the future. This time, I traveled alone and made the reservation on the morning of the same day. Overall, about half of the staff seemed to be foreign nationals. While I understand this might be for inbound tourism purposes, it was difficult to understand what they were saying most of the time. As for meals, honestly, they were not very tasty. It felt like something you would get at a casual diner in town. I couldn't help but think "Is this really worth this price?" Unfortunately, there was nothing else I could recommend either. There were plenty of staff at the dining area, so service was smooth; however, their constant chatting was audible and unpleasant. Regarding the room, there were hairs on the floor and fingerprints on glasses—this made me question how much effort is put into cleaning. Two centipedes suddenly appeared in my room; though I requested pest control from reception immediately, it took about 15 minutes to address it—I was honestly scared during that time. Additionally, perhaps due to how old the facility is, noises echoed excessively throughout and made it hard to relax. To be honest, it felt like a waste of both money and time—a disappointing trip overall.

    Completely Satisfied!

    This was my first time staying at "Shika no Yu Hotel," and everything was absolutely satisfying. The most pleasant experience was the outdoor bath, which always had clean water whenever I entered. I was amazed that there were no insects or leaves floating in it. The meals were carefully prepared, delicious, and served hot when they should be. It happened to be my birthday on the day of my stay, and the thoughtful hospitality made it a memorable and delightful birthday for me. Thank you so much for everything. If I have the chance, I would definitely love to visit this accommodation again!

    We went on a family trip with our two children, aged 2 years and 9 months. The accommodation is not very spacious, but it has a clean playroom for kids. For some reason, there were many Hina dolls displayed. Meals were served in private rooms and were delicious, followed by an adorable dessert buffet that the kids enjoyed, especially the soft-serve ice cream. Unlimited coffee and other drinks were also available, which was great. The room had an open-air bath attached, which was very relaxing. However, there were two concerns: 1) From the guest room window looking downwards, we could see what seemed to be a private open-air bath below (at that time children were bathing), which felt intrusive. This should be addressed immediately to avoid any issues in the future. 2) In the restroom, there was decorative Makomo grass from the local area; however, it was too long and would touch your face while using the toilet—this could be made smaller for better comfort. Overall though, this is a wonderful accommodation with attentive staff who helped carry luggage from our car at the parking lot below and treated our children kindly. If you visit on a sunny day, you can enjoy beautiful views from the rooftop as well! We would love to stay here again if we travel in this area in the future. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Great value with warm and friendly service

    We stayed at the accommodation during our trip to see the plum blossoms at Suzuka Forest Garden with three friends. During the reservation process, we found out that there are pet-friendly facilities, so we called the hotel directly to arrange for our pet's stay as well. The staff was kind and informed us that bringing our own cage would be more economical and comfortable for our dog, so we decided to bring her along. The facility is an older building but well-maintained, with clean private baths that are also recommended for families with babies who cannot use large public baths. The cost-performance is excellent, and its proximity to Osaka makes it a place we'd like to visit again.

    Very disappointing

    I was looking forward to my first stay at Shikanoyu. The service and meals were satisfactory. However, the water in the open-air bath in the room was too cold. The morning bath was especially chilly. The heating in the room, which couldn't be adjusted, was too hot and made it dry. I had hoped to make this a repeat property if it was good, but it is very disappointing.

    Very satisfied.

    Thank you for taking care of us during the snowy weekend. On the day of departure, we were very grateful for the ride to the station in time for our scheduled train. Thank you very much. Every dish was delicious, and we particularly enjoyed the white rice, which was a blend of Koshihikari and Milky Queen. In the lounge, we were delighted to find not only drinks but also a selection of sweets. We wanted to visit the observation terrace, but unfortunately, it was closed due to the snow. This was our first time staying here, but we would love to return if we have the opportunity.

    Yunoyama Onsen

    First stay at Shikanoyu Hotel. The shuttle service from the station to the hotel was very much appreciated. It's relatively close, about 26 minutes by train from Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station. For dinner, I chose venison for the first time and it was very delicious. The onsen was also wonderful and satisfying, but it would have been even better if the temperature was 1-2° higher. I learned there is a boarding point for the ropeway to Mount Gozaisho and took it the next morning. The autumn leaves and surrounding scenery were spectacular. The temperature at the summit was -3° and I could see rime ice, which was amazing. I have listed it as a candidate to visit again in the summer.

    A word of inspiration

    In recent years, I have visited luxurious Ryokan and Hotel that I usually cannot afford, thanks to travel and reconstruction support. This time, I chose a nearby place to soak in an Onsen to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. Although it was in the mountains of Mie Prefecture, I didn't have high expectations for the food. However, each small appetizer was a delightful surprise, with each bite making me exclaim, "What is this? Delicious!" The presentation showed great care and attention. Even though I hadn't mentioned the 70th birthday celebration, they prepared a purple ceremonial vest, which was a touching surprise. The Onsen was highly recommended, and the changing room was very clean, with frequent cleaning to the point where not a single hair was found. I was so moved and well taken care of that I can't express it all here. I will definitely visit again! I will surely come back! Thank you very much for this wonderful experience.

    The service is excellent.

    This was my first time staying here. The room was clean, and the bath was excellent. All the meals were delicious, and I enjoyed the venison sukiyaki. The service was outstanding as well. The desserts after meals were served buffet-style, and you could take them to your room, which I highly recommend for those who love sweets. I would like to stay here next time with my daughter. I am very satisfied!

    It was very good.

    I stayed with my 4-year-old daughter. I was looking forward to the meals as they had a very good reputation, and they were indeed very delicious. There were many foreign staff members, but they all provided courteous service. Of course, the Japanese staff were also very kind. It was nice to be able to borrow toys for children, allowing my daughter to play in the room. The onsen in the room was pleasant, and I would like to stay again.

    Meals that reflect the season

    I visited in autumn, and the meals and decorations that made me feel the season were wonderful. In the reviews, it is mentioned that there are many foreign staff, but their service was proper and that was good too.     Lovely accommodation

    It was my first time at Yunoyama Onsen, and it was a very quiet place, and the ryokan was also very nice. I was satisfied with the facilities, service, and food, but above all, I was extremely satisfied with the staff's response and kindness. We were traveling with a small child, and having a private room for meals was very much appreciated. There was wonderful hospitality in various aspects.
