    Visited during the N...

    Visited during the New Year period from the end of 2025 to the beginning of 2026. The accommodation seems to be making efforts by renovating its old facility. The meals were thoughtfully prepared, and I enjoyed them. However, as it was a busy two-night, three-day stay during the year-end and New Year holidays, there were some disappointments such as a shortage of amenities and only two yukatas provided for a family of three. When I visited Kinugawa 10 years ago, it felt very desolate, but it seems to have improved slightly since then, which was somewhat pleasing. That said, considering the price paid for this stay, it felt expensive; staying at about 70% of this cost would have been more reasonable. Compared to the satisfaction level at Kusatsu Onsen, I wouldn't feel inclined to return here again.

    Take your time.

    The room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is a bit old, and the hallways were cold... It was chilly in the yukata. The staff were very kind. Although the meal explanation was given by a foreign staff member who worked hard and diligently, it was difficult to understand. It would have been helpful if a Japanese staff member could provide additional support. Overall, I had a very pleasant stay.

    It was great.

    I traveled with my partner. The Hotel felt a bit old, but all the staff we passed greeted us warmly and cheerfully, which was very pleasant. They promptly assisted with the reservation call for river rafting and handled it efficiently. The meals in the morning and evening had a wide variety of dishes, were visually colorful, and used local ingredients, which I appreciated. The chicken in the hot pot was delicious, as was the rice. I would love to visit again if I have the chance. Next time, I’d like to try river rafting too!

    The Room was great.

    The Room was new and spacious, with well-equipped amenities that allowed for a relaxing stay. However, the bath was far away and quite old, and the hallway had a musty smell which was concerning. Additionally, the foreign staff member at check-in seemed to have memorized the Facility information without fully understanding it. I was told I didn’t need to bring a bath towel from the Room to the public bath, but when I got there, there were no towels available, so I had to return to my Room to get one. It would be helpful if important information like this were included on a paper handed out during check-in to avoid such issues. Honestly, this is more important than flyers about souvenirs.

    The room was renovated and included a stone sauna, making it a comfortable stay. It was nice to enjoy the stone sauna without worrying about others. However, the view outside the window was unpleasant with dried ivy branches, and the curtains were closed from the start, possibly to hide this. Additionally, the room door opened inward with no extra space, making it inconvenient as you had to put shoes in the shoe cabinet behind the door before closing it. When leaving, you had to open the door, take out the shoes, and place them, which was troublesome. Considering the renovation, better design could have been implemented. The public bath felt old and somewhat dirty, and I thought it could have been cleaned better. Dinner was enjoyable, with delicious rice and various tasty ingredients from Tochigi.

    Recently renovated...

    This is a traditional Ryokan Hotel, but the annex we stayed in, despite being renovated, showed significant signs of aging in some areas. The wallpaper near the sink was peeling off and covered with scratches and stains, giving an impression that maintenance hasn't fully kept up. The property is large, and moving to the annex required passing by a smoking area where the strong smell of cigarettes from people smoking was unpleasant. Another downside was that the public bath was quite far away. However, the private Room bath was very comfortable. Room dining service was handled by experienced staff who also kindly provided helpful information about sightseeing spots.

    The meals, bath, and service are excellent, but the air conditioning does not work.

    The meals were as delicious as those served in a fine dining restaurant, making it worth the visit just for that. We highly recommend choosing a plan with meals rather than No Meals Included. The Onsen was spacious and wonderful, and the staff were all very kind. However, the room I stayed in had an outdated air conditioner that barely worked. It was too hot to rest comfortably. Nowadays, there are air conditioners that don't require outdoor units... If such options could be provided during summer, it would eliminate this drawback and make the experience perfect!

    Close to the station, but...

    The meals and service are not bad, but the facility is outdated! Cracks on the window glass and dirty carpets were concerning. The young front desk staff were unfriendly, and their explanation of the facility was very mechanical. However, the senior front desk staff were very kind.

    It was comfortable.

    The onsen was spacious, and the room was large and comfortable. Older reviews mentioned a lack of outlets, but there were outlets installed near the bed, which seems to have improved the situation. However, since the room is large, bringing your own extension cord or power strip might be helpful. Having cold water available was a nice touch. There weren’t many places to hang or dry bath towels, which was slightly inconvenient. The pillow was firm and didn’t suit me personally. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious with generous portions. A 10 AM checkout felt a bit early. Perhaps due to good timing or staying on a weekday, it wasn’t crowded at all—there were no noisy families with children, making for a peaceful stay. I believe this might have just been good luck though; I’m slightly concerned about how things would be during peak seasons or weekends in terms of check-in/out times and overall crowding. The hotel is conveniently located near the station, making it easy to access. Overall, it’s an excellent hotel that provided a very comfortable stay!

    Relax both physically and mentally.

    It was a one-night, two-day trip with my wife after a long time. The room was very clean and had a great view. The bath was nice, and freshly brewed coffee was available for free, and the vegan meals were excellent. However, breakfast left something to be desired. It really was a good property. It was excellent.

    Showa retro atmosphere

    The Review mentioned the Facility's age, but rather, that age creates a good atmosphere. The Room we stayed in was a two-room Japanese-style room, with a tea room design converted into a bedroom, which seemed like a Room that foreigners would enjoy. While most baths are available from 6 a.m., being able to enter from 5 a.m. was very appreciated for an early riser like me. There seemed to be four private baths. They were the size of family baths, and bathing while admiring the autumn leaves up close was very nice. The meals had a wide variety, and I was satisfied. The grilled river fish skewers were very delicious. Regarding the service, it seemed like there weren't enough staff, but the response was very kind. The meal explanation was in good Japanese, but it was spoken quickly and hard to understand. Perhaps due to repeated renovations, the Facility had depth, and I almost got lost going to the bath or dining area. The Plan included a celebration cake, but a whole cake for two people is too much to finish, so I wish they had considered that a bit more. Nonetheless, I am truly grateful to the chef for even making the cake.

    No hospitality

    Rain started falling upon arrival at Kinugawa Station. There was a bus stop in front of the station for a tour of onsen ryokan, and since a reservation was required, I called the hotel. However, they replied, "Depending on the route, it might take time." When I mentioned it would be faster to walk, they said that they don't offer shuttle service, and the taxi is too close, so they weren't sure if it would go. I couldn't get the bus schedule or the route I wanted to know. In the end, I waited in the taxi line for 30 minutes. Upon arriving at the hotel, although there was a welcome, they neither offered an umbrella nor helped with the luggage. I felt the hotel's lack of service spirit even before arrival, making it a disappointing trip.

    We brought our infan...

    We brought our infant with us. Everyone at the Hotel was kind to the children, which warmed our hearts. We had our meal in the banquet hall, and when we were about to eat while holding the baby, they kindly provided a bed so we could lay the child down next to us and enjoy our meal. In the family bath, we could easily dip the child's feet. The Room was clean, and the garden at the entrance was well-maintained and lovely.
