    Maybe it’ll be nice if the weather is good?

    Unfortunately, the day we visited coincided with a typhoon, so the sea looked very gloomy and we couldn’t really see it. I had expected the open-air bath to be designed with a full ocean view, but the bath was smaller than it appeared in the photos, and you can only glimpse the sea through gaps. The amenities were minimal but sufficient, so we had no issues. Meals are served in a semi-private dining area. If I may ask for one improvement, I would like the staff to be better trained in plating layout and serving; the way the dishes were brought out felt a bit careless.

    A Midsummer Day Enjoying the Sea to the Fullest

    It had been quite a long time since my last visit, but I’m glad I came back. (Compared with my first stay, the management and the services had changed.) My Room was a third-floor corner Room with a private open-air bath. It might be the best Room. The Room felt more spacious than I expected from the photos, and the full ocean view was wonderful. It would have been even better with clearer weather. The round private open-air bath was compact but very nice. Dinner was a course featuring simmered golden eye snapper as the main dish. The seasonal vegetables and Hakone foothills pork steamed in a bamboo tube were new to me and truly memorable. You pour a small amount of water into the bottom of the bamboo tube; white steam rises from below, then you put on the lid and wait for a while. You enjoy the steamed vegetables and pork with sesame sauce. The three-kind platter of fresh fish—such as spiny lobster and tuna—was also excellent. The wasabi, of course, was wild-harvested. To finish, there was a “wasabi rice bowl”: you save some of the wasabi used for sashimi and eat it over Izu-grown Koshihikari rice topped with bonito flakes and wasabi. This was also my first time trying it—essentially bonito-flake rice topped with fresh wasabi. There were other dishes as well, such as “Shiosai” bouillabaisse and green-cheese chawanmushi (savory egg custard). It was an enjoyable Japanese course meal with tasteful Western-inspired touches. The welcome draft beer and the orange wine I ordered by the glass were delicious too. Right beside the Accommodation, the Kawazu River flowed quietly, and beyond it Mt. Amagi stood calmly in lush green. Next time I visit, I’d like to explore more around the area. One more thing: on my way to Kawazu Station after checking out of the Accommodation, there was a stylish log-cabin-style café along the Kawazu River. It felt wonderful there too—a very relaxing space—and both their coffee and homemade cake were excellent. I’m glad I stopped by to end my trip on such a nice note.

    Based on the positiv...

    Based on the positive Reviews, we booked and stayed on short notice. The Room was clean, and the staff were friendly. The meals were delicious. We were also satisfied with the hair dryer in the Room. Since it’s an Onsen, we would have liked a few extra towels in the bath area. Also, having something to sit back against in the Room, such as a floor chair, would have made it even more relaxing. Thank you for taking care of us.

    Warm Hospitality

    Thank you for welcoming us with such warm hospitality! We booked a Room with an open-air bath, and it felt more open than we expected, which made us a bit nervous, so we used it early in the morning and at night when it seemed like no one would be around. The meals were also delicious, and we were very satisfied! We ate so much we could barely move.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    It was such a wonderful Accommodation that it made me wonder, “Is this really casual?” I stayed in the stone Room with an open-air bath, and the Onsen was amazing. I often stay at Accommodations with views of the Seto Inland Sea, but the sea in Kawazu felt wilder, and the sound of the waves was incredibly cool. The distance to the ocean was perfect too! Above all, the meals were outstanding. It was my first time seeing such a huge simmered splendid alfonsino! It was so delicious. There was so much seafood that I ended up completely full. I want to come again!

    Enjoy Izu

    Located at the mouth of the Kawazu River, right on the oceanfront. It feels as if the waves reach almost directly beneath the Room window. With Toshima straight ahead and Oshima to the left—plus Niijima, Shikinejima, and other islands of the Izu Seven Islands in view—this is an outstanding location. The view from the indoor bath window is wonderful, and it’s a very relaxing bath to enjoy. Dinner featuring local specialties was delicious across the board, including abalone and bluefin tuna sashimi. In particular, the simmered kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) was a large whole fish for two people—very satisfying. The kinmedai takikomi rice was also excellent. Breakfast was very good as well. I’d like to visit again in a different season.

    Just as the name “Kaiyu” suggests, the waves crash loudly.

    A Hotel at the foot of the ocean waves. We enjoyed the view of the rolling surf and an excellent meal. The Indonesian service crew were delightfully cheerful and even made rice balls from a double portion of rice. After we got home, we reheated them in the microwave—what a treat: delicious golden eye snapper rice cooked in a pot.

    It was a truly memorable stay.

    We stayed as a group of four: my 90-year-old father, my 88-year-old mother, my husband, and me. After check-in, we relaxed on the lobby sofa during happy hour and enjoyed coffee and draft beer at a leisurely pace. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. We also appreciated being able to watch the sunrise from our oceanfront Room. The Kawazu cherry blossoms were very close by, so we could enjoy them unhurriedly in the evening and again the next morning. We are grateful for the staff’s hospitality.

    The price is very reasonable for a solo trip.

    My 319th newly discovered Accommodation. My second trip this year. There is no Shuttle Service, but it’s within walking distance from Kawazu Station. The Kawazu cherry tree in front of the Accommodation—one of them was in full bloom and beautiful. A small Accommodation with a total of 12 Rooms. 〇Room 307 Rurikon: a free-flowing Onsen open-air bath (stone). The sea spreads out right in front of you, so the view is excellent. The Room is easy to use and well laid out. The open-air bath in the Room is small, but the flow and layout are good. The sunset and sunrise were truly beautiful. 〇Large Public Bath It’s a bit inconvenient to have to bring towels from the Room, but at this price it can’t be helped. Both the indoor bath and the rock open-air bath are spacious enough. One of the pool-like open-air baths has peeling paint, which gives a dirty impression, so it should be repaired as soon as possible. It faces the sea, but it’s a shame there is screening for privacy—though that can’t be helped either. I ended up soaking six times all by myself. 〇Meals Both variety and portion size were sufficient. They’re doing their best, I think. 〇Lounge One draft beer is complimentary; coffee, cocoa, shaved ice, etc., can be enjoyed freely. Relaxing while watching Japanese white-eyes come to eat citrus (mandarin? orange?). 〇Staff The young male and female staff were very kind and helpful in many ways, which left a lasting impression on me.

    Just steps away from the Kawazu cherry blossom-lined street.

    Thank you for having us on Thursday, February 12. We chose your Accommodation to fully enjoy the Kawazu cherry blossoms. The Room was a relaxing Japanese-style room, and the ocean view was amazing. The meals were excellent and delicious, and the staff’s hospitality and attentiveness were outstanding. However, perhaps due to remnants from before the renovation, there were a few disappointing points in the Facility—such as an oddly placed pillar inside a storage space and a storage door that didn’t fit properly and wouldn’t close completely. Thanks to the location right next to the Kawazu cherry blossom-lined street, we were able to enjoy them many times—from evening through the nighttime illumination to early morning. We would love to visit again during the next cherry blossom season. Thank you very much.

    A highly satisfying accommodation.

    This was my third stay. The staff’s hospitality is truly pleasant, so I returned for another visit. The food is high quality, and the portions are just right. This time I stayed in a Room with a semi-open-air bath featuring a ceramic tub. The corner Room was very comfortable and easy to spend time in, but compared with the cypress bath, the ceramic tub felt smaller—if it were just a bit larger, it would be perfect. I’ve already made a Reservation for the next Room with a stone bath. I’m looking forward to my next stay. Highly recommended Accommodation.

    Please schedule the meeting for a different time.

    The staff who served us during dinner and breakfast provided exceptional hospitality, reminiscent of traditional Ryokan service, with cheerful and informative interactions. We were deeply touched by the celebratory message they gave us. The cleaning staff we encountered upon departure also left a positive impression. The Ryokan is located right in front of the sea, offering an excellent location with nearby Kawazu cherry blossoms expected to bloom fully next month. However, the outdoor bath had issues with corrosion, as pieces from the tub were floating in the water. While changing clothes, a previous guest encouraged me by saying that at least the meals are good—this brought a smile despite some disappointments. In the lounge area, guests struggled to figure out how to use machines for shaved ice and coffee while staff stood idly watching without offering assistance. Beer was limited to one glass per person; check-in was strictly not allowed before 3 PM; late check-out was not accommodated; and breakfast hours were restricted to just one hour from 8-9 AM. The lounge only had seating for four groups of guests but was dominated by what appeared to be management holding loud discussions about promotional strategies involving influencers or video creators seated at prime spots overlooking Izu's islands through binoculars. Their conversation disrupted other guests who sought quiet relaxation while enjoying tea and ocean views. Such meetings could have been held privately at another time or place without disturbing paying guests—it felt inconsiderate and unprofessional. Despite these shortcomings in service prioritization due to efficiency-focused operations likely stemming from their advantageous location and quality cuisine attracting visitors regardless, I would love to return for another encounter with the wonderful cleaning staff and meal servers. Lastly, watching sunrise from our room’s private open-air bath was truly breathtaking!

    A highly satisfying accommodation.

    This was my second stay. Last time, I had made a reservation at a hotel in the same group, but due to facility issues, I was transferred to this accommodation. The hospitality at this hotel was exceptional, and I was impressed by the high quality of the facilities, including the onsen and cuisine. This led me to make a reservation here again this time. As with my previous visit, it was very comfortable, and I thoroughly enjoyed two nights of onsen and delicious meals as expected. I have already made my next reservation!

    The Room was spaciou...

    The Room was spacious with a stunning ocean view right in front, and at night, countless stars were visible. In the morning, the sunrise directly in front of the Room allowed us to truly appreciate Japan's beauty. Meals were served at the same table for both breakfast and dinner, which left a positive impression, and we thoroughly enjoyed the variety of small dishes. However, it was unfortunate that there was insufficient explanation about the bamboo tube steamed dish, making it unclear how much water to add or when it was ready to eat. We would love to visit again during a different season.

    Better ocean view than the photos, and the food is delicious.

    I stayed in a newly renovated room. It was very spacious, and the view of the coastline from both the room and the bath was stunning. Watching the sunrise early in the morning was truly moving. Guests in another room mentioned that they could see a beautiful meteor shower. In winter, while the air is clear and crisp, I was surprised by how rough and stormy the waves were. Although it seems to be a historic accommodation, everything in my room, including glass windows and tatami mats, was impeccably maintained and clean. I wanted to take a walk along the beach if it had been calm weather but had to give up on that. The meals were absolutely delicious! The small gratin dish and simmered yellowtail with daikon served on heart-shaped plates were adorable—and incredibly tasty! The yellowtail was tender with a subtle flavor that paired perfectly with yuzu miso sauce. The combination of Japanese cuisine with occasional Western elements worked wonderfully. The bouillabaisse also brought out natural flavors of its ingredients beautifully. The food overall was so good that I ended up overeating! Of course, sashimi tasted amazing as expected, but what stood out for me most was their rice—possibly Izu Koshihikari? Personally speaking, it felt even more chewy than Shizuoka's Koshihikari rice varieties; its quality reminded me of premium brands like Yamagata's Tsuyahime rice—it tasted truly exceptional! My parents are quite particular about rice quality (to an extent where they can distinguish brands by taste) since they invest heavily into premium grains—and even they gave high praise! Lastly came dessert which earned extra points: white wine jelly layered over apple compote (also seemingly cooked using white wine?)—chunks left intact yet soft enough without being overcooked brought out apples' full potential while retaining texture perfectly balanced between firm & tender…simply divine craftsmanship behind this creation made me wonder how exactly chefs achieved such perfection here?! Fresh strawberries accompanying dessert added refreshing touch too! Even unique bamboo cooking utensils caught attention during dining experience adding charm further! Bathwater quality felt great alongside warm hospitality provided throughout stay making entire visit memorable indeed. For families visiting during summer season having beachfront location right outside makes ideal choice whereas cherry blossom period likely draws heavy crowds judging by popularity observed already hence planning next trip around autumn sounds appealing idea altogether!

    Mother-Daughter Trip for Three

    We stayed here for our annual mother-daughter trip. Our main purpose was to visit the Kawazu Seven Waterfalls, so we looked for nearby accommodation. Although we didn’t have high expectations due to the reasonable price, we were pleasantly surprised as the property was renovated in January this year. While the building itself is old, the room and bathroom had a modern and refined atmosphere, making our stay very comfortable. The room offered an ocean view, and we never got tired of gazing at the sea through the window. We also enjoyed watching the sunrise on the following day. The meals were delicious with just the right portions—until we were hit with a double punch of kinmedai rice and wasabi bowl at the end, leaving us completely full! The staff at the dining area were very friendly; however, I felt that a young woman at reception during checkout lacked warmth. She gave us two bags of Christmas candy as a small gift but seemed displeased when I asked if we could have one more since there were three of us. Overall, it was excellent value for money and a very satisfying accommodation experience. If given another opportunity, I would love to visit again!

    Second Stay

    This was my second stay, just a month and a half after the first, as I really liked this accommodation. The meals, onsen, and ocean view from the room were excellent. The staff at the front desk and dining area were very friendly, making my stay pleasant. Since it hadn't been long since my last visit, they prepared a dinner usually served to guests on their second night of stay, which was just as delicious as before. This must be due to the high-quality base ingredients they use. I traveled by car and found it conveniently located right off the main road; it's also very close to Kawazu Station if traveling by train. I look forward to visiting this accommodation again next year!

    Truly oceanfront with the sea right in front. The sunrise was stunning and moving. The room had water provided, and the bed was comfortable. Free drinks in the lobby were a nice touch, and the complimentary welcome beer was great. Above all, both dinner and breakfast were of high quality! Since it was my birthday, I was touched to receive red rice and sake as a gift. The indoor bath felt nice, though the outdoor bath had a stronger chlorine scent. The recommended Kusunoki tree and Onsen geyser from the accommodation were enjoyable, making for an overall relaxing trip! Thank you very much!

    This was my third stay, and this time I stayed for three nights, including an extended stay, as it was my favorite room so far. The open-air bath with a view of the ocean right in front and the perfect location where you can lie on the bed while listening to the sound of waves were amazing. The thoughtfully prepared dishes were all delicious, especially the signature wasabi bowl topped with freshly grated wasabi—it was outstanding. When I shared my thoughts about the final day's experience with the accommodation, I promptly received an email saying they would share it with all staff members—excellent hospitality. It’s such a comfortable place to stay that I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    Facing the coast, bo...

    Facing the coast, both the Room and the bath offer stunning views of the sea, Toshima, and Oshima right in front of you. The Room is spacious with large beds, ensuring a comfortable stay. The Onsen provides ample hot water, allowing guests to relax while enjoying ocean views from both indoor and open-air baths. Dinner features delicious grilled venison and wild boar as the main dishes. Sashimi of tuna, abalone, and botan shrimp was also delightful and paired perfectly with Shizuoka's local sake "Suginishiki." The finishing touch was freshly grated wasabi and thinly shaved bonito flakes generously sprinkled over freshly cooked rice—a true highlight. While there aren't many dishes served at once, each one is carefully prepared with great attention to detail. Breakfast included thick omelets, dried horse mackerel, miso soup—all equally delicious. The staff at the front desk and dining area were friendly and efficient in their service. One concern was the step between the Room floor level and bed placement; it could be improved for convenience. It would also be nice to have hair tonic available in the bath area. Next time we visit—perhaps next year—we're debating whether to come during a different season or return specifically for another taste of game meat cuisine!

    Perfect for families!

    Close to the station with delicious meals. Thoughtful services such as children's toys, play areas, and unlimited shaved ice. Our son was thrilled to receive a stag beetle as a gift. This accommodation left our whole family very satisfied, and we would love to visit again!

    The view of the sea from the Room and the sound of the waves were amazing. The meals were traditional Ryokan-style courses, all delicious, and we also enjoyed Shizuoka's local sake.

    I decided to visit a...

    I decided to visit an accommodation with a limited number of rooms and private open-air baths when my daughter unexpectedly got some time off. There was a drink service, and we enjoyed shaved ice after bathing, which made my daughter very happy. The public onsen was slightly hot but comfortable, and although the room bath wasn't onsen water, the ocean view was wonderful. The meals were delicious, and the room was clean, allowing us to have a pleasant stay. As mentioned in reviews, perhaps due to the age of the building, I could hear doors opening and closing during the night which woke me up occasionally; however, I thought it couldn't be helped. One thing that bothered me was about beer provided as part of the hotel's service—it stated "one glass per person," but there were several people drinking multiple glasses without consideration for others' morals. With the ocean right in front of it, I imagine it gets lively during summer. There were also many toys for children available, so I think this place is especially recommended for families with kids.     Luxurious Time

    We returned to Kaiyutei this year and stayed during the trail running event. The renovated room maintained its calming atmosphere while becoming more functional and comfortable. Soaking in the onsen of the private open-air bath after the trail running event, with a view of the sea, quickly rejuvenated our tired bodies, allowing us to relax and enjoy luxurious moments in the cozy room. Although we may have caused some inconvenience to the staff, they responded kindly, making us feel glad we chose Kaiyutei again. We look forward to visiting again next year!

    Spend a moment in a serene space.

    Stayed on the second day of our 3-night, 4-day trip to Izu. Kaiyoutei is located right in front of the ocean, and all rooms offer an ocean view. With only 12 rooms available, it was very comfortable for our family who prefers a quieter atmosphere. The Room was renovated around January this year, featuring chic and stylish interiors with clean walls and a bedroom with steps. The welcome drink included one beer per person, along with self-service coffee, tea, and shaved ice options. For dinner, the sashimi and hot plate dishes were delicious and of high quality. The careful presentation of the dishes was also impressive. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese set meal instead of a buffet, which we appreciated. We hope to visit again during the Kawazu cherry blossom season next time! Thank you!

    Satisfaction with comfort and deliciousness beyond the price.

    A clean and well-maintained space, an unobstructed ocean view, delicious dinners served freshly prepared one dish at a time, and friendly, lively staff. Achieving this level of comfort at this price with what seems to be a modest number of staff is likely thanks to various thoughtful measures (e.g., guests seating themselves by checking the board during meals instead of being guided to their tables). While I don't usually prefer this expression, I would say it’s an excellent "value-for-money accommodation."

    The view from the Room is breathtaking.

    Stayed in a room with an open-air bath. The facility is old but well-maintained. The view of the sea from the room's bath is limited, but the sound of waves was soothing, and stargazing at night was wonderful. Waking up for a sunrise soak and then going back to sleep... it was such a blissful time. It would be nice if there were self-service cleaning tools for hair in the dressing area of the large public bath. The meals were incredibly delicious and impressive, featuring plenty of local ingredients that made me feel I had truly arrived in Kawazu. With only a few guest rooms, it was quiet and relaxing without any noise or disturbance. On clear nights, I highly recommend stepping out to the beach right in front to observe the starry sky!

    Renovations completed!

    This was my fourth stay at this accommodation. Previously, there were fewer rooms with open-air baths, but since the renovation was completed in January this year, I was glad to secure a room with a bath even just before the stay. Instead of futons on tatami mats, the room had beds with raised platforms, which were also very comfortable. As before, you can enjoy draft beer in the lobby and help yourself to small portions of drinks and snacks while relaxing and enjoying the ocean view right in front of you. It seems that more attention is given to the summer beach season than to the Kawazu cherry blossom season. There are handmade toys for children and small craft corners—not extravagant but filled with warm hospitality from the staff that feels unique to this accommodation. The meals are similar; instead of boldly presenting "Kinmedai!" (golden eye snapper), they offer sashimi of kinmedai that can be placed on rice and enjoyed with dashi broth poured over it—everything is modest yet heartfelt. This thoughtful approach makes each visit feel relaxing and comforting. For this price, I believe these offerings provide great satisfaction!

    Thanks to you, it became the best solo trip.

    During the pre-opening, I saw a YouTube video about this accommodation and made a reservation well in advance, looking forward to my stay. Kaiyutei has an excellent location! Despite being close to the station, the front of the accommodation faces the sea. A walk to enjoy rivers, mountains, birds and fish, cherry blossom spots, and footbaths was rich in nature and truly healing. Upon entering the room and opening the sliding doors, I was greeted by beautiful wall colors, a stunning ceiling, a corner designed for enjoying the sea view, a raised bed area that was very comfortable, a humidifier provided for convenience—and everything was impeccably clean. The tatami mats were so pleasant that after dinner I ended up lying down completely relaxed—it felt amazing! The private bath in my room was also very clean with wonderfully fragrant body soap products. Although I didn’t use the public bathhouse facilities during my stay, soaking in an open-air ceramic bath filled with natural hot spring water while listening to ocean waves felt incredibly luxurious. Stargazing at night and watching sunrise views added even more indulgence to my experience. As for meals—both dinner and breakfast left me completely satisfied (I believe I finished everything!). From rice dishes to desserts—almost every item matched my taste perfectly; it was all deliciously enjoyable! I got so focused on savoring each bite that I forgot to take photos... Oh yes—I tried basil sauce chawanmushi (savory egg custard) here for the first time—it too tasted absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for such wonderful meals! To all staff members: Thanks entirely to your hospitality; this became one of my happiest solo trips ever—a truly satisfying experience full of joy! Thank you very much! Next time around—I’d love visiting during another season. It’s hard putting these emotions into words—haha!
