    The Facility is good, but...

We stayed during the Obon season (3 nights/4 days, Aug 8–Aug 11). The atmosphere felt like a classic Showa-era Hotel, but the Room and amenities had been updated to some extent and were not bad. That said, the Room layout and the fact that the key is not an auto-lock system may need updating. The main issue was the meals. Perhaps it felt worse because Accommodation Fees are higher during Obon season, but I did not feel the quality was very high. Our stay included breakfast and dinner, but except for the first night we ate dinner outside. (Our travel Plan also focused on activities outside Jozankei Onsen.) Given that this is Hokkaido, expectations for seafood tend to be high. It may be worth ensuring freshness by selecting partner suppliers and sourcing better seafood—or alternatively, removing seafood altogether and focusing on other strengths instead (given the location, seafood may not be essential; game meat or mountain produce could also be considered). Also, this was my first time seeing such a large Onsen. Because of that, it felt slightly underutilized. For example, turning the basement into an Onsen pool while keeping a more traditional Onsen only on the top floor could add some entertainment value that makes better use of the space. Hospitality was more than sufficient (including courteous service from staff members from overseas), so I hope to see Facility updates and improved meals in the future.

It’s not the staff’s fault, but the hospitality is zero.

    A Disappointing Stay in Jozankei

The room was reasonably comfortable and included a private bathroom. The public baths and swimming pools were very large and varied, offering a great experience for guests. Dining Issues Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style. However, the food was almost identical on two consecutive days. The ingredients felt low quality; the dishes seemed inexpensive, tasted mediocre, and lacked any standout specialties. They didn’t even offer basic orange juice. Overall, the dining experience was disappointing. Service & Logistics The most frustrating part was the shuttle bus to Sapporo Station. Although reservations are available, they only accept bookings by phone, which is very inconvenient for international travelers. Additionally, when I asked at the front desk during check-in about reserving the shuttle for my departure date, I was told it was fully booked. Yet on checkout day, I saw plenty of empty seats on the shuttle bus. The hotel showed no flexibility or clear explanation regarding availability.

    Facilities and meals are good.

I used the Shuttle Service. The pool and Onsen were excellent, and the Facility has been renovated with a sauna and a cool-down room, so I was able to fully relax. The food was tasty with a wide variety, but the roast beef was tough and I couldn’t eat it.

Also recommended for your stay during the Sapporo Snow Festival.

This was my second stay. Last time I traveled solo and used a twin room as single occupancy, but this time I stayed with my partner (my wife) for 3 nights and 4 days. I booked a twin Western-style room for the first two nights, and a Japanese-Western style room for the third night because the twin was unavailable. However, thanks to the Hotel’s kindness, we were upgraded to a very spacious Japanese-Western style room for all three nights. Thank you very much. The main purpose of this trip was the Sapporo Snow Festival for the first time in six years. With hotel prices in central Sapporo rising sharply recently, we chose this Hotel again because we had a great experience before. When comparing rates, this Hotel with breakfast and dinner can sometimes be cheaper than central-area hotels with breakfast only (depending on when you make your Reservation). This time we rented a car from the airport, but if you are not used to driving on snowy roads, taking the bus is honestly recommended. Also, at this Hotel, if the schedule works out, using the free Shuttle Service bus is an excellent value. We used the Shuttle Service one-way from the Hotel to Sapporo Station on our second day (they were running five large buses). After enjoying the Snow Festival, we returned to the Hotel by taking Jotetsu Bus “Kappa Liner,” using its last service (departing 17:00 from in front of the station). On day three, we relaxed by visiting nearby Hoheikyo Onsen for a day trip bath and their famous curry, and took an easy stroll around town in the snowy hot-spring area. As for the Hotel itself, you can enjoy various baths at both an underground Onsen area and an observation bath & open-air bath on the top floor. That said—perhaps because there isn’t enough source water volume for baths of that size—the “Onsen feel” is slightly mild. Meals were buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner. Given that it was peak season at such a huge Resort Hotel, it gets extremely crowded in a massive dining venue, so it’s better to avoid peak times. The buffet selection may not match top-tier luxury resort standards, but it was satisfying—for example, breakfast included seafood bowls where you can add as much salmon roe as you like. If you’re visiting Sapporo for sightseeing, staying in central Sapporo is convenient; however, this Hotel offers great value with breakfast and dinner included plus Onsen access—and even free Shuttle Service buses from near Sapporo Station—so I may well return for a third stay. One extra note: the new wing has three glass elevators, and two regular elevators on the inner side of the building opposite them. The glass elevators have great views, but in midwinter (around -10°C), they are very cold inside, so we ended up using the inner ones most of the time.

It was a slightly unpleasant stay!

I was aware of the hotel's age, so the dated feel was expected. My child was excited about the heated pool and buffet! However, the heated pool water was a bit cold, and it was too chilly to enjoy for long. The buffet photos on the website showed scallops, but there were none; salmon and roe turned out to be trout instead. The bathhouse floor wasn’t cleaned properly—it was slippery, causing me to almost fall and injure my foot on a tile, resulting in bleeding! I couldn’t even enjoy the Onsen and had to return to my room. When I informed a cleaning staff member about the slippery floor, they didn’t respond at all! We booked a slightly more expensive room expecting better quality but left with no good memories—truly disappointing...

    Thank you for your patronage.

We caused some inconvenience to the front desk staff due to our mistake, but they kindly assisted us. Thank you very much. It was our first time at the View Hotel in a while, and we enjoyed the pool, Onsen, and meals with our grandchild. The Christmas decorations were also lovely.

    Surprised by the spacious bath!

We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style, with the menu changing slightly each day, which we appreciated and enjoyed. The Hotel was so large that it took some time to get to the baths and dining areas. Both of the two bath facilities were spacious and comfortable. It was a satisfying stay, thank you very much!

I had a nostalgic and enjoyable time visiting Karakami Kanko after many years, where I once took my children when they were little.

The room is neat and clean, with a stunning view of Jozankei scenery from the window.

The room is tidy and clean, offering a stunning view of Jozankei from the window. The autumn foliage scenery is amazing. Parking is very convenient, and there are many convenience stores nearby. The rooftop hot spring offers an even better view, and the hot spring on the lower floor is also excellent.

It was fun and enjoyable, but there was a minor incident...

We stayed for one night and two days. Perhaps because I mentioned "using it for a special occasion" when making the Reservation, our Room was upgraded at check-in. Since we were with children, they enjoyed the upgraded Room and the pool, which was great. However, there was an issue at the pool's tube slider where a lack of attention from the staff caused another group to slide down while my child was still in the landing area, leading to a near accident. Additionally, the Room's air conditioning seemed faulty as it didn’t warm up properly. When we asked for assistance at the front desk, we were given two electric heaters. While they provided warmth, turning on both caused a power outage in our Room due to tripped breakers, so we could only use one heater and felt slightly cold throughout our stay. Despite these issues, our children enjoyed the pool, buffet meals, and Onsen so much that they said they wanted to come back again! Although there were several negatives during our stay overall experience deserves 4 stars out of 5.

    Value for Money

Since it was a Sunday stay, the accommodation was not too crowded. However, the buffet area was relatively busy with overseas tour groups. The facility shows its 50 years of age but was kept clean. The pool, as expected, was crowded. The meals were average. Many of the staff members were from overseas, but everyone was pleasant and made the stay comfortable. Thank you very much!

    I've been waiting for you.

We stayed for one night with my wife. The Room was on the valley side, and we were very satisfied. While the cleaning was thorough, the carpet and refrigerator felt a bit outdated. The meals were excellent; both breakfast and dinner met our expectations. The bath was also wonderful, but we wish the rooftop open-air bath hours were longer or available more frequently. Still, we would love to visit again!

The bathroom is too large to be thoroughly cleaned.

The bathtub in the upper bath had a lot of sand settled at the bottom, which was surprising when stepped on. The stairs leading to the rooftop observation bath were also full of trash and very dirty. This is an area where guests walk barefoot. Despite being a noticeable spot for guests, it felt like cleaning was not thorough. There were also many pebble-like objects, which seemed dangerous. As for meals, although there were no luxurious ingredients for both breakfast and dinner, they were well-prepared and very delicious. The variety of unique Asian dishes was enjoyable. It left a good impression that it wasn’t just ordinary Western food or dried pasta dishes and fried items. Considering its reasonable price range, I think this accommodation offers great value for money with this level of service.

    The reservation was ...

The reservation was for a Japanese-style room in the main building, but we were moved to the new building and enjoyed a spacious room comfortably! Since it was the last day of summer vacation, the pool and other facilities were not crowded, and we had a great time with the kids! We would love to visit again!

It was the perfect Hotel for a family leisure trip.

We stayed for two nights with two children and had a great time enjoying the pool. The guest room could use more thorough cleaning. The buffet meals met our expectations for the price.

    Bath

I have visited multiple times, but it seemed challenging for families with children when the women's bath was on the side with stairs. The meals were highly satisfying. At the pool, some non-Japanese guests used float rings without permission, so it might be helpful to write your name or mark on them.

    It has greatly improved.

It was my first stay in 5 years, and the accommodation had been partially renovated, making it a much better experience than before. The pool was enjoyable, and both dinner and breakfast were high-quality buffets. I will definitely visit again!

    Onsen for one person

I booked this as it was affordable on Sunday. I also reserved a free shuttle service from Sapporo Station and arrived at the hotel around 14:50. Check-in was smooth, and I first explored the surrounding area, though there wasn’t much to see. The hotel is noticeably large. The public baths are located both underground and on the upper floors, with a sauna available in the basement. There’s also a pool in the basement, which had many families since it was Sunday. The baths are very spacious, so even with many people, it didn’t feel crowded. There are several tubs, but there didn’t seem to be any difference in the water quality among them. Dinner was a buffet that operated on fixed time slots and was quite crowded as well. There were some international dishes available with plenty of variety overall. I ordered an all-you-can-drink option for 2,900 yen; however, the selection of alcohol (especially sake and shochu) wasn’t great—ordering individually might have been better as I found their sake particularly disappointing. Breakfast was also a buffet featuring salmon roe (ikura). It too was busy but waiting for a short while allowed access to the seafood corner. The room felt slightly dated but cleanliness wasn’t an issue. However, the desk lamp didn’t work—I hope such maintenance issues can be addressed more thoroughly moving forward.

    Highly satisfied!

I stayed with my son, and we were pleasantly surprised with a free upgrade to a Japanese-Western style room. Thank you! While the facility shows its age, the spacious and well-cleaned room was very satisfying. The tatami mats were new, making our stay comfortable. The pool was exciting, especially the slide which was faster than expected and full of thrills! The wave pool was also enjoyable, though I wished the lazy river had a bit more current. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style and absolutely delicious. The quality at this price is amazing! Please don’t raise the prices. I’ll definitely visit again—keep up the great work!

Stayed with my daughter, her husband, and two grandchildren! We arrived at 2 PM and were surprised by the long line in front of the reception desk! The pool was also incredibly crowded—everyone seems to have the same idea during spring break fun. As for the meals, I wish there had been more variety of sashimi. Also, it would be great if the checkout time could be extended to 11 AM. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Full of Showa retro charm

I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay in early March (Reservation was made as 1 night × 2 times). It was a twin room for single use, and I could stay at a very reasonable price. This Hotel is very accommodating even for solo travelers. As this is a large-scale Resort Hotel with plenty of Showa retro charm, it seems more family-oriented. However, I personally enjoy such Hotels. The cost performance is excellent: the Room is spacious, the Onsen has many baths to enjoy, and the buffet meals are perfect for someone like me who has many food preferences. That said, the heating caused dryness in the air; having a humidifier would have been appreciated. Also, since the Room's air conditioning system is centralized, it might be worth checking about cooling during hot summer months. The front desk staff were foreign nationals but provided very polite service that left me satisfied. Unfortunately, one of the large public baths on the 16th floor and rooftop was under renovation during my stay and only available from 6 AM to 9 AM—a rather short window of time. When I went at 6 AM on my first day, it was extremely crowded like washing potatoes in water! The next day I went at 7 AM during breakfast hours as expected; it was much less crowded then. If you have flexible time in your schedule, visiting during meal hours might be recommended. On my second day of stay between nights at this Hotel (middle day), I enjoyed strolling around an Onsen town and relaxing with a visit to Hoheikyo Onsen (day trip). Suggestions for improvement: ① The elevators in the new building are arranged opposite each other with five units (3+2), but they do not seem synchronized well enough—people often press buttons on both sides when rushing which may lead to unnecessary movements causing longer wait times overall. ② This time we used our own car; however parking spaces within covered areas like Parking Lot A were extremely narrow! With my three-number minivan vehicle type required multiple adjustments just barely fitting into place while observing elderly drivers struggling similarly using compact cars nearby too… Some vehicles even occupied two slots across due likely unchanged designs since establishment years ago despite modern larger-sized cars today suggesting perhaps dedicating Parking Lot A exclusively towards smaller kei-cars instead? Despite these points mentioned above though overall experience remains positive especially considering value-for-money aspect making this one among top choices suitable also enjoyable solo trips alike!

I was able to stay at a good price, but the bath was...

Got a great deal on a stay through an IKYU sale. Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying. However, the bath area had many stairs and was slippery, making it dangerous. My wife fell on the stairs and got bruises when we returned home. While personal carelessness might be a factor, some of the stairs have anti-slip mats, so I hope they can be placed on other stairs as well. Also, although it is clearly stated that tattoos are prohibited from entering, there were many people with tattoos present on the day, and employees did not pay any attention to this issue.

An Onsen with a long history, full of groups

There are many rooms, so there are many group guests. Since there is a pool, families with small children seem to enjoy it. There are especially many overseas groups, and it would be appreciated if they could get accustomed to Japanese manners... The buffet style was like a battlefield. For someone like me who wants to enjoy a calm atmosphere, it was difficult.
