    A Hotel Noted for the Aroma of Tea and Thoughtful Hospitality

    I stayed at Hotel WELLIES, and it was a very warm and welcoming Hotel overall. The welcome tea had a wonderful aroma, and I felt relaxed as soon as I arrived. The manager was also incredibly kind, and I felt at ease throughout my stay. This time, they prepared a Room on the second floor for us, and thoughtfully ensured there were no other guests in the Rooms next to ours. That consideration left a strong impression on me. The bedding was truly fluffy and comfortable, so I was able to rest well. It was also great that Harunire Terrace is nearby, which made the stay even more enjoyable. We visited from Kashiwa in Chiba and arrived in 2 hours 58 minutes—being able to get there in under three hours was another plus. I visited with my wife, had a wonderful time, and it was a stay that made us want to come back again. I sincerely appreciate the manager’s hospitality. I would also like to thank the international staff member who served our meals and kindly assisted us. Thank you for such a lovely time.

    Air freshener

    I decided to stay at this accommodation after seeing photos of a delicious-looking English breakfast in the reviews and reading words of gratitude towards the former owners, Chris and his wife. However, I learned that they had already left this hotel, and it is now owned by someone else of Chinese nationality, so I was unable to meet them. That aside, the breakfast I had high expectations for was disappointing. The bread and sausages were clearly products from major supermarket brands, while the hash browns and baked beans seemed to be commercial-grade items. The "homemade" bacon described was overcooked and too tough to eat. Overall, the fish breakfast I ordered on the second day was better. Another issue I'd like to address concerns health-related matters that I hope the accommodation will take more seriously moving forward. As someone sensitive to fragrances, I had sent a message in advance requesting minimal use of scented products. However, upon being shown my room, there was a strong smell of some kind of fragrance which made it quite difficult for me. Upon inspecting the room further, I found a bottle with fragrance sticks (aroma diffuser) placed on a shelf under the refrigerator as well as an air freshener inserted into the basin in the toilet area. After taking these items to reception staff myself, things improved somewhat; however, until my room was changed on the following day, I suffered from headaches and tinnitus caused by exposure to these fragrances. It appeared that reception staff were aware of my message but either failed to communicate it with housekeeping or did not treat it as important enough. If there were no issues regarding such sensitivities beforehand then sending messages wouldn’t have been necessary—therefore written requests should ideally receive proper consideration (removing air fresheners seems like an achievable adjustment).

    It was a very comfortable and lovely Hotel.

    I was a bit worried due to the recent lack of reviews, but it turned out to be completely unnecessary. I arrived much earlier than the check-in time intending to leave my luggage, but since the room was already cleaned, they kindly let me in and even served me welcome tea. Their thoughtful hospitality was truly refreshing. The room was spacious with a bed, sofa set, and desk in an elegant British style—very stylish. The bed was extremely comfortable. The view from the room resembled being in a forest, giving off a relaxing summer retreat vibe. Several types of juice and coffee were also available for guests to take freely to their rooms. The dinner stew was absolutely delicious and very satisfying; breakfast offered such an impressive variety of dishes that it left me pleasantly surprised. While I occasionally heard sounds from the hallway, the room itself remained quiet. I rented an electric bicycle and headed to Hoshino Area—it took about 10 minutes. With warm hospitality and delicious meals, this is definitely a hotel I would love to stay at again!

    It felt like an overseas trip!

    The staff at the front desk switched during our interaction, and the conversation shifted to English. I thought, "This must be what I read in the reviews!" While responding was a bit challenging, their clear pronunciation made it easy to understand despite the normal speaking speed. Communicating in English in Japan was both fun and a valuable experience. We were served tea and scones as a welcome drink, and the friendly staff made us feel as comfortable as visiting a relative's home. We enjoyed relaxing in the dining area with Beatles music playing softly in the background, where we also had our meals. I had wondered about British cuisine but was pleasantly surprised by how delicious everything was! The garden and terrace were stylishly designed, and sitting there while feeling Karuizawa's cool breeze was incredibly refreshing. The bathroom had separate bath and toilet areas with a bathtub included; however, since the dressing area shared space with the toilet, those sensitive to odors might want to bring an air freshener. It felt like an overseas trip—communicating in English, enjoying great food—and overall it was an extremely satisfying stay! I'll definitely visit again!

    A property where the friendly owner's stories are enjoyable.

    We stayed for one night as a family. The well-cleaned Room was impressive. The amenities provided were sufficient. It was a Hotel that made us feel the essence of England, filled with the owner's particular tastes. The owner was friendly and spoke to every guest, and we enjoyed listening to stories of the owner's travels to Africa. Thank you very much. I would definitely recommend this Hotel to any friends visiting Karuizawa.

    Cozy Hotel

    Unfortunately, it was raining on the day we arrived, but after enjoying a welcome tea and a delicious lemon tart, we relaxed in the cozy Room and spent time reading a book. After that, both dinner and breakfast were English tastes that we don't usually get to enjoy. Especially the pâté, the "world's most delicious tomato," and the smoked salmon were incredibly delicious. On the day of checkout, we were very grateful to be taken to Kumoba Pond after stopping by Karuizawa Station by car and putting our luggage in a coin locker. Thanks to this Hotel, we were able to enjoy our holiday in good spirits despite the bad weather.
