    A nostalgic and tranquil Ryokan

We stayed as a couple to visit Tamaki Shrine from Osaka. We arrived slightly before check-in time and were surprised to find the entrance closed. It seemed they were operating with minimal staff, likely due to it being the off-season on a weekday with fewer guests. However, the interior was very clean. The room was a traditional Ryokan-style room with shared toilets nearby, which was not inconvenient at all. The baths included a large public bath, an open-air bath, and private baths, offering variety and excellent water quality that left us very satisfied. The meals featured simple dishes made from local ingredients, which suited us well. However, the private dining area lacked partitions for privacy, making it less relaxing. Additionally, while there were plenty of disposable razors available, we would have appreciated toothbrush sets in each bathroom or washroom along with more towels provided. The abundance of manga books gave us a nostalgic feeling as if we had traveled back to the Showa era—making this trip truly memorable for us!

    Highly Satisfied!

Reserved the Kumano Beef Sukiyaki Kaiseki. Apart from the lack of a toilet in the room and limited power outlets, I was very satisfied with my stay. The basic customer service was handled by foreign female staff, but their polite and dedicated service was commendable. The sukiyaki kaiseki dinner allowed me to enjoy carefully prepared dishes from appetizers to dessert, with the local vegetables and Kumano beef in the sukiyaki being particularly delicious. Breakfast also offered a variety of dishes that were very enjoyable. The facility is old but well-maintained and clean, providing a comfortable stay. Both dinner and breakfast were served in private rooms, allowing for a relaxed dining experience. The onsen included private baths that were easy to use without hassle, offering a leisurely experience. The large public bath was almost like having it all to myself depending on the time of use, including lying-down baths for ultimate relaxation. I visit Tamaki Shrine every year during this season and would love to stay here again.

    Dining Area

The Onsen was excellent, and the service was great. It is a simple Ryokan. While the shared toilet is understandable, the dining area being semi-private was an issue as we were seated near a group of older men. The large room was divided into two with only a curtain separating us, and their loud discussions were completely audible, making it impossible to have our own conversation. It would have been better if the partitioned walkway had been separated by sliding doors or walls instead of just curtains. The quality of the food and service was impressive, which made this aspect even more disappointing. The loud voices of six men were unbearable; they should be seated separately.

    Requests Regarding the Room

Thank you for your hospitality. The Onsen was absolutely amazing, just as I had imagined! The meals, primarily kaiseki-style, far exceeded my expectations and were filled with the delicious flavors of Totsukawa Village, making it a highly satisfying experience! These two points alone make me want to visit again; however, the Room is the only drawback. It seems that smoking might have been allowed in the past because there was a lingering smell of tobacco despite being a non-smoking Room (it became stronger when using the air conditioner). Additionally, I wanted to open the windows but couldn't because the screen doors were torn, allowing insects to enter even during daytime hours. As a result, I had no choice but to keep them closed. While harmless insects can be tolerated, having a centipede fall from the ceiling at night was truly terrifying (though staff promptly addressed this issue). To enjoy relaxing moments listening to insect sounds and river murmurs peacefully... could you please consider replacing the screen doors? If you could ensure that Rooms are safe and comfortable for guests, I would love to bring my parents and family (including infants) along next time. Thank you very much for your consideration!

I would like to book a Multiple Night Stay next time.

The meals were all delicious, leaving us with very fond memories. It was a soft-shelled turtle course, and the price felt so reasonable that in Tokyo, accommodation would likely be charged separately. Although the building itself is old, it was well-maintained and did not bother us at all. Next time, we would like to have a multiple night stay. Thank you very much!

    The location itself ...

The location itself is a hidden gem, offering a sense of adventure despite some narrow roads. The toilet facilities are shared, and the building and rooms are at a guesthouse level. Meals are thoughtfully prepared with good balance and moderate portions. Breakfast is simple and adequate; it might feel insufficient for those with larger appetites, but it's perfect for someone in their 60s. The rice is deliciously cooked and served beautifully in a wooden container. The quality of the hot spring water is excellent, with an ideal temperature. However, as the bathhouse is wooden and spacious, cleanliness could be improved slightly. From rooms facing the river, you can enjoy the soothing sound of flowing water through your window—a truly pleasant experience. The ryokan staff are all kind-hearted individuals with warm smiles that leave a positive impression.

    Delicious meals and amazing Onsen!

The building shows some age, but the Onsen and meals are truly exceptional. The mikan chicken shabu-shabu, in particular, was outstanding. Both dinner and breakfast were served in just the right portions. The natural free-flowing Onsen has excellent quality and was incredibly refreshing. I had a deep sleep on the fluffy futon after a long time. While it lacks luxury, this place is highly recommended for those who value high-quality hot springs and delicious meals. I would love to stay here again!

The hot springs of Totsukawa are exceptional.

Guest Rooms & Amenities: Perhaps a bit more than a guesthouse, but slightly less than a Hotel. Hospitality & Service: The foreign staff were doing their best to provide service, and it felt pleasant. Onsen & Bath: The natural hot spring is available anytime during your stay, and the quality of the water in Totsukawa's Onsen is excellent. Facility: While it feels a bit old, it is well-maintained, offering charm and character. Meals: Both the presentation and taste were excellent. Satisfaction: It’s a place that makes you want to come back again.

I was able to enjoy the Onsen at a leisurely pace. The history of Totsukawa, including the Tenchugumi, was also intriguing.

The temperature of the bath is just right.

The hot water is excellent! The meals, especially the rice, are incredibly delicious, and I enjoyed the variety of small portions, especially since I like game meat. As for other aspects, the vintage feel is perfectly fine, but I think it would be even better if the stairs were made of wood instead of felt.

    Wonderful!

The food was very delicious, the Onsen was great, and thanks to the various kindnesses extended to us, it became a memorable trip. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much.
