    The sound of the waves and the townscape

    We stayed here while sightseeing in Hagi City. After strolling through Hagi’s historic streets, we enjoyed kawara soba, pudding, and fried dishes until it was time to check in. When we arrived at the Hotel and opened the window, we could see the Sea of Japan, and the sound of the waves was soothing. The meal portions were very satisfying. The dishes were so gorgeous and wonderful that you might even wonder if you can finish them all. After dinner, we saw information about a private Onsen in our Room, made a Reservation at the front desk, and headed to the private Onsen. *Please note: preparation for the private Onsen takes about two hours, so it may be best to make your Reservation fairly early. This Onsen is a sodium chloride–calcium spring with slightly salty water as its distinctive feature. The Onsen is a little distance away, but we highly recommend trying the private Onsen as well.

    Onsen is out of order.

    The Onsen was out of order and could not be used, so we couldn't enjoy the panoramic view it is known for. The room was spacious, but the air conditioning did not work well, making it cold. Unable to use the Onsen and with a cold room, this stay was a poor choice.

    Very impressive.

    The building seems to be quite old, but it is well-maintained and feels very clean. The bath was spacious, and the view of the sea from the men's bath was excellent. Additionally, everything from parking guidance to check-in went smoothly, allowing us to relax in our Room right away. The staff's hospitality was outstanding. Regarding meals, as we only had a breakfast Plan, it is difficult to evaluate further.

    I referred to everyone's reviews, but...

    The initial reviews were positive, but I regret not checking everything until the end. This was my first stay at this accommodation, and it was for a special celebratory occasion. The meal was described as a special Kaiseki course, but it tasted ordinary and was nothing exceptional. A female restaurant staff member with sharp eyes seemed intimidating, making it hard to enjoy the meal leisurely. Since they couldn't prepare a celebratory dessert plate, I requested an externally ordered cake instead. The cake was very delicious—thank you! The room was spacious and allowed for relaxation; however, I felt the cleaning could have been more thorough. I also had some concerns about the hygiene of the stuffed toys and other items in the kids' room.

    It is truly disappointing.

    The meals were completely different from the photos. At the 2nd-floor restaurant, despite being a special Kaiseki meal, it was just ordinary food and didn’t taste good. The simmered sardines served at breakfast seemed like they came from a can? Not only was the taste disappointing, but one of the restaurant staff—a woman with tied-up hair, sharp eyes, and heavy makeup—stared at us intensely, which was frightening. She was very unfriendly and spoke in a harsh tone! Even though we were enjoying a family meal together, both my husband and I felt extremely uncomfortable. The accommodation fee was also set at New Year’s rates; is this supposed to be a New Year’s special Kaiseki meal??? It was completely unsatisfactory. We will not use this accommodation again in the future. I recommend spending slightly more on accommodation fees to stay at Otani Sanso in Nagato instead.

    It was my first stay.

    Our stay was to celebrate a special occasion. We were looking forward to the New Year's special Kaiseki meal, but it was very disappointing. There was no sense of being "special" at all. The flavors were overly strong; the soup had more saltiness than dashi flavor, and even the white rice was not tasty at all. While we were already concerned about the food, the staff's behavior in the restaurant made things worse. Our family’s table seemed to be in a spot where staff frequently stood, and we felt uncomfortable as they kept staring at us over the partition while we ate. Both my husband and I noticed this, especially from an older female staff member (with tied-up hair and sharp eyes with full makeup), whose gaze felt particularly intimidating. She also spoke to other staff members in a very harsh tone of voice. Even though we were still eating our cake, she looked at our table and said something like "This table will finish soon." Such comments should not be audible to guests. Overall, both the food quality and restaurant service were by far the worst we've experienced—our apologies for saying so bluntly—but we will not return again unless improvements are made immediately regarding these issues. Considering that we paid a fair amount for our stay, these matters need urgent attention—especially regarding food quality and how certain employees interact with guests. On a positive note: thank you for arranging an externally ordered celebratory cake; it was delicious! We sincerely hope improvements are implemented promptly moving forward.

    Stayed in the Jungle...

    Stayed in the Jungle Room. The room was exactly as pictured and the kids were thrilled! It felt even more spacious than expected, with plenty of animal decorations and picture books, creating a fun atmosphere. Since it was a weekday, we enjoyed a relaxing time at both the Kids' Room and Onsen—truly a wonderful stay! The Kids' Room had many toys to play with. The Onsen is divided into two areas, each offering one type of bath. For families with children, this simplicity worked well. There were toys in the bathing area, making it easy to enjoy bath time without spending too long. The towels provided in the changing room were very convenient—we used the Onsen four times during our stay! There were several massage chairs available for free use as well. In addition, there was a facial steamer (likely Panasonic) in the women's powder room—a delightful service! We definitely want to visit again next time. For meals, dishes and rice were provided for children sharing existing bedding. The breakfast included free drinks like milk—a thoughtful service for families with kids. If staying in this room, it's recommended to check-in right at the start time to fully enjoy all that this hotel has to offer; arriving late might mean missing out on some great services. This accommodation left us wanting to return again! With supermarkets and restaurants nearby, its location is excellent too. Since our kids are small, we ate food purchased outside back in our spacious room without any issues while enjoying its unique ambiance during mealtime!

    Planetariums are surprisingly impressive.

    The room was very spacious! Although it was a room without an ocean view and the wooden frames made it difficult to open the windows, it wasn’t much of an issue since we were out during the day. I honestly underestimated the planetarium, but it was absolutely beautiful… haha. The view from the bath was also lovely, but since the window was fogged up, I thought having a defogger might make it even better. Since this place is very popular, I recommend deciding on meal options when you complete your reservation.

    Recovery Ability

    The air conditioner in the room was leaking, but the staff promptly arranged a room change. Regarding the facility, there was a noticeable smell of tobacco on the second floor. As for the meals, while I understood it was creative Japanese cuisine, I felt it would be better if guests could choose smaller portions with higher quality. It was disappointing that miso soup couldn't be refilled and was served lukewarm. Thank you for your thoughtful gesture when I mentioned during the reservation that my birthday was approaching.

    This time, I made a ...

    This time, I made a Reservation for the "Special Kaiseki" available only during the Obon period, but it didn't feel very special. Later, when I looked back at the menu photo (attached), it turned out to be a regular Kaiseki. It was disappointing since I paid extra for it. Also, the gutter between the Room and jacuzzi overflowed like a waterfall. While this might have been due to unexpected weather conditions, it was still unfortunate...

    Despite being called a resort...

    I was attracted by the onsen photos and the word "resort" in the hotel name, so I made a reservation. However, I was disappointed as the restaurant and meal options were not resort-like at all. I also had concerns about the front staff's service. The beachfront location is great for swimming though.

    A Resort Hotel Facing Kikugahama Beach

    The location is excellent! The meals, advertised as "creative cuisine," offered a wide variety, but lacked refinement in quality. The portions were too large, and there wasn’t a standout dish. Reducing the quantity and focusing on improving quality might enhance the reputation. The open-air bath on the first floor was pleasant to use, but unfortunately, it does not offer a view of Kikugahama Beach. The service was great.

    We visited as a family of three. In the morning, as expected, my son overslept and didn’t have time for breakfast. However, when we informed the staff at the breakfast venue, they kindly prepared rice balls and wrapped non-perishable items in aluminum foil for him! Their thoughtful and attentive service was so warm and considerate. The view of the ocean right in front of us was also incredibly soothing. I truly want to visit again! Thank you for such a heartfelt experience!

    The staff kindly ass...

    The staff kindly assisted us despite our significant delay in arrival. The Room was very fancy, equipped with stuffed toys, which made the children extremely happy! However, it seemed there might have been mites in the stuffed toys, as one of the children who slept hugging a toy had their wrist bitten and it swelled up significantly. I recommend implementing mite prevention measures. Other than that, both the Facility and the sea were very clean, and we were all highly satisfied.

    My impression of Yamaguchi Prefecture improved thanks to this accommodation.

    As I was on a Geopark trip and couldn't predict my schedule, I stayed with breakfast only. The twin room I booked had a water issue, so I was upgraded to a more luxurious room. The spacious area, high ceilings, balcony with a luxurious jacuzzi, elegant indoor bath, and clean twin beds were all fantastic. It felt like an unexpected treat! The breakfast was refined in taste, with every dish showcasing the craftsmanship of Japanese cuisine—absolutely delicious. You can feel the local pride and see the meticulous work put into it. Next time, I'd love to try dinner as well. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

    Well-located Onsen Accommodation

    The stunning view of Kikugahama Beach is right in front of you. Located in the historic castle town of Hagi, the area offers many famous spots to explore, giving you a feeling as if you've traveled back to the late Edo period.

    It was a wonderful hot bath on a cold night.

    It was a chilly day, perfect for enjoying the open-air bath. I was able to relax and unwind at my own pace.

    It is quiet.

    It is a very nice place by the sea. The dinner and breakfast were very delicious and the accommodation price was very good. The bathroom was clean and lovely. Above all, the refrigerator was a freezer refrigerator. I would like it to be mentioned in the Hotel guide. I look forward to staying again.

    Family Trip

    The road was congested, and our arrival at 3:00 turned into 6:30, but we appreciated your consideration in starting dinner later at 19:45, allowing us to enjoy the Onsen before dining. The meal was also delicious. Thank you very much.

    The weather was disappointing.

    I stayed for several nights, but it rained the whole time. The coastline, sandy beach, and sunset are amazing, but I couldn't fully enjoy them. I couldn't see the starry sky from the open-air bath either. It's really disappointing. Next time, I want to bring my grandchildren in the summer.
