    The meals are excellent.

    After touring the Komoro Distillery, we walked from Komoro Station to this Ryokan. The website said it was a 20-minute walk, but it took us about 30 minutes. We took a taxi on the way back. At the front desk, we were served plum soda and then shown to our Room. This time we stayed in a Room with a private indoor Onsen bath. It was a bit old, but very clean and well maintained. There is also a large public bath, but it is up quite a steep stone staircase, and my husband said it would be safer to use the bath in our Room instead—so we did. The Onsen left our skin feeling wonderfully smooth. I have had dinner at many Ryokan over the years, but every dish here was truly delicious. You could call it creative Japanese cuisine—both the presentation and flavors were excellent. They served salt-grilled ayu (sweetfish). I usually give ayu to my husband because of all the bones, but they told us you can even eat the bones in the head here, so I tried it for the first time—and really didn’t notice any bones at all. Because the food was so good, we also enjoyed it with their sake tasting set. Having an in-room bath meant we could enjoy it whenever we liked, which was wonderful. Breakfast included barley rice with grated yam (mugi-toro), grilled fish, ginger-flavored Onsen egg, and many other dishes—we enjoyed everything. A taxi to Komoro Station costs 1,000 yen, which is much better than walking for 30 minutes. It made me want to visit Komoro again next time as well.

    Everyday Accommodation

    We stayed for one night at the end of the year, coming from our vacation home. The special year-end pricing made it feel quite expensive. The building and facilities are old, but everything was well-cleaned, making it a pleasant accommodation. However, during winter, the path to the bath was too cold, so we mostly used the room bath instead. If it were priced reasonably for regular use, we might consider returning. For special occasions, we would recommend a different accommodation.

    It has a charming atmosphere.

    It was a very charming accommodation. I stayed here when visiting a friend living in Komoro. Since we planned to have dinner at a restaurant run by my friend's relatives, I opted for the breakfast-only plan. The onsen, with its slightly warm temperature, was extremely comfortable during the hot weather, and I could enjoy soaking in the open-air bath for a long time. The breakfast was delicious, and it made me want to try their dinner as well. The staff at the ryokan were very attentive and kind. However, the amenities were somewhat lacking, and it would be nice to have a safe in the room. The soft-serve ice cream available at the front desk was also very tasty!

    It was so relaxing!!

    This accommodation, associated with Shimazaki Toson, has an undeniable old charm but exudes history and romance throughout. The staff were all very pleasant, and the landlady, who rides a motorcycle, was as energetic as ever, sharing her vitality with us. The meals were excellent, featuring carefully prepared dishes using local ingredients. A good breakfast often defines a great accommodation—and this one nailed it! The rare goat milk was also delicious. The onsen with free-flowing hot spring water left our skin feeling smooth and rejuvenated; however, those stairs were quite challenging. It’s an accommodation that may not suit everyone—I'd love to visit again before my legs give out!

    The apple bath in th...

    The apple bath in the large public Onsen was very relaxing and enjoyable. Although the stairs to the large public Onsen were a bit challenging for my age, it was worth it for the apple bath. The meals were delicious, and it was nice that the hostess greeted us during both dinner and breakfast, allowing us to have a pleasant conversation. However, finding the entrance after parking was a bit confusing, and without assistance, I had to carry my luggage to the lobby by myself, which was slightly disappointing. The entire accommodation was impeccably clean. While our room was lovely, I found it a bit disappointing that the private Onsen bath in our room was a simple unit type. Additionally, I thought having coffee provided in the room would have been nice. The walnut-filled sweets provided in our room were delicious but came as one bag with two pieces; having enough bags for each guest would have been appreciated. They were so tasty that I ended up buying them as souvenirs on my way home. Interacting with the goats on-site added to an enjoyable experience. Overall, this accommodation offered a very relaxing stay!

    I feel disappointed and sad.

    The place where we had our meal was unbelievably terrible. Probably right next to the kitchen. The sound of the door opening and closing as the staff came in and out was very unpleasant, continuing throughout the meal, making it impossible to enjoy. I made the reservation understanding that it was an old historic building, but it was too much. It felt like a punishment game. There was a brief mention from the hostess about some event causing a different dining location than usual, but that is completely irrelevant to us. It was not worth the price at all, and what was supposed to be an anticipated stay turned out to be the worst and saddest. It is a famous property featured in guidebooks, but isn't there some arrogance?
