    It was great.

Rooms & Facilities: We didn’t use the bathtub, but there were no issues. As noted in advance, there is no elevator, so it’s a long walk to the corner Room on the 4th floor, and the hallway is hot. Service: The male staff member provided accurate information and guidance. Onsen: It’s a bit far, but there were few guests so we could relax at our own pace. Meals: We were able to eat in a quiet, calm setting. Thank you for the complimentary items as well. The additional charges (alcohol) for two people came to 6,100 yen.

If you’re looking to enjoy the Niyodo River

Highly recommended if you want to enjoy the Niyodo River. About 30 minutes by car from Kochi Station. About 45 minutes to Crystal Pool (or around an hour if it’s a bit crowded). Niko Pool is slightly closer. You can also go kayaking on the Niyodo River right in front of the Hotel, which is convenient for families with children. The food was delicious—classic French cuisine (not the trendy fusion style or light fare, so tastes may vary). The appetizers, soup, and desserts were especially good. Both the fish and meat mains were generous portions and satisfying even for men. One downside: the covered walkway from reception to the Room was hot and steamy… it’s only a few minutes, but in summer it was tough for me. The staff were pleasant and attentive. The Room is 25 m², but because the bathroom area and entryway are compactly arranged, it felt spacious overall. (The entryway is small, but the bathroom facilities were new, clean, and easy to use.) Perhaps because it was peak season, when we made our Reservation it was JPY 50,000 for one night on a weekday. Considering the Facility (no elevator, etc.), it felt a bit pricey—but if you want to enjoy the Niyodo River without moving around much, I recommend it. (It’s about a 12-minute drive to Ino Station where there’s a convenience store.) Next time I’d like to stay from late autumn into winter, when people say the river color is at its most beautiful.

    No flexibility in meal options

There are no nearby places to eat, yet dinner is available only as a reservation-only French course. A course meal may be fine when you’re younger, but in your 60s, à la carte options or just drinks with light snacks are more than enough. So we ended up having dinner from a convenience store. Also, you have to take the stairs to reach the Room—we were on the 4th floor. In this heat, there were air circulators placed along the corridor and at key points, but they had no effect; the hallway was unbearably hot. With no elevator, it felt like only guests with strong legs and knees can stay here. The view from the Room also felt different from what was shown on the website.

It was stormy, but we were satisfied.

Since it was an Accommodation at a roadside station, I didn’t have high expectations at first, but it was better than I imagined. It was pouring rain that day, and we arrived an hour earlier than the check-in time, but thanks to their kindness we were able to check in without waiting and were shown to our Room. The Room was clean and the meals were delicious, and my friend who traveled with me even praised me for choosing this Accommodation. What I especially loved was the French dinner and the weaving experience at “Hataya,” located within the Facility. We truly enjoyed the countryside—it was incredibly refreshing and felt like a great detox.

    An unexpected delight was experienced.

During the busy Obon season, we made a last-minute reservation about 10 days in advance and only a Japanese-style room was available. When we entered the room, we found that besides the tatami area, there was a spacious veranda-like space where luggage could be placed. There was also storage space under the futon closet, leaving the entire 8-tatami mat area free to use without feeling cramped. What delighted us most was having a sofa to sit on, which was especially appreciated by my spouse and me as we have leg issues. Additionally, there were USB ports on the wall next to the sofa—such thoughtful details surprised us! The toilet paper, tissues provided in the room, and even lampshades seemed to be made of (probably) local handmade Japanese paper. The bathhouse had public access during earlier hours and seemed crowded then; however, after 8 PM it became quieter with only hotel guests using it. Bath towels and hand towels were readily available for use as well. While the outdoor bath didn’t offer particularly stunning views—it’s essentially just an open-air bath—the medicinal herbal bath felt wonderful. The restaurant was quiet too; perhaps due to well-managed time slots preventing overcrowding. The dishes were beautifully presented and flavorful—very satisfying overall! We tried four types of local sake through their tasting set—all of them were delicious. At their gift shop, we ended up buying so many souvenirs that our spending nearly matched our accommodation cost! Toward the end of our stay they even remembered our names when addressing us—it felt heartwarming somehow. Initially hesitant about staying at a hotel attached to a roadside station (Michi-no-Eki), it turned out more like "a hotel with an attached roadside station." (According to my wife: “The most elegant Michi-no-Eki I’ve ever seen.”) We’d love to visit again during another season—and would definitely recommend this place to friends!
