Just 1 hour from Tokyo, with an open-air bath in the Room.
This was my second stay, and this time I visited in summer. The Room was much larger than last time and seemed newly renovated—a Japanese-Western style Room with beds. Dinner and breakfast were served in a private room in a separate building, the same as before. This time it was a summer-style kaiseki featuring sweetfish (ayu). (In winter, it’s wild boar hot pot.) The open-air bath in the Room was also great. There are two large public baths; my favorite is the one with hot spring water cascading like a waterfall, which is used as the men’s bath at night and the women’s bath in the morning. I was even more satisfied than last time. Guests ranged from families with children to couples and married couples. Even the walk from the parking lot to the Room has a charming atmosphere, so I can recommend it. The service is very polite as well. (It seems staff change between dinner and breakfast—there were lots of “mom”-type staff members in the morning.) You’ll find tanuki figures all around. Also, the vending machines are reasonably priced, and it was nice that there were bottled drinks for each guest plus a thermos of iced water in the Room. (So you don’t need to buy water beforehand.) *Since you can’t tell the exact Room layout at Reservation, if you care about futons vs beds or whether there is a partition for the bath area, it may be best to call and confirm.* (The Room we had last time in February 2025 had futons, and if you opened the curtain by the open-air bath you could be seen. This time we had a Western-style bedroom with beds, and there was also a door/wooden screen by the open-air bath—so there were differences. It’s possible renovations have been done since then.)

This is a wonderful accommodation.
This was my first return visit since last winter. I came for the ayu dishes, and everything was delicious. As a Room with an open-air bath was available, we were kindly upgraded. The Facility itself is old, but the hot spring water quality is excellent and left my skin feeling smooth. The view from the bath, with plenty of greenery, was very relaxing. Since the ayu changes by month, I would like to visit again next year.

I noticed an unpleasant odor in the Room.
As soon as I entered the Room, I noticed an unpleasant smell that I couldn’t tell was coming from the toilet or the tatami. Sitting seiza on tatami is tough for elderly guests, so a sofa would have been better. Aside from that, dinner and breakfast were excellent, and the Onsen was wonderful.

I’m a repeat guest a...
I’m a repeat guest and have stayed here many times. The cleanliness and overall usability have improved year by year, making the stay much more comfortable. Above all, the meals have been truly delicious since my first visit, and that hasn’t changed. That said, while I don’t mind that the portions are smaller than before (they used to be so generous I couldn’t finish), lately the serving pace feels a bit too fast. Since the food is wonderful, I would appreciate being able to enjoy it more slowly—ideally over about an hour and a half—which is my only small disappointment.

Wonderful Ryokan
This was my second stay. It’s a beautifully designed Ryokan, and you can enjoy a wonderful experience. Even the walk to the bath is exciting. The Room was spotless, spacious, and comfortable, and all the staff were excellent. The meals were also very delicious with a wide variety of dishes. However, the portions were quite large, so I ended up leaving a lot—sorry about that. I was almost completely satisfied, but if I could ask for one improvement: both mobile reception and the Room Wi‑Fi were weak, which was inconvenient. Given the building’s layout, I imagine it may be difficult to design the wireless network throughout, but improving even one of them would make this Accommodation even more comfortable.

My friends were happy too.
This was our first stay here. The view from the Room was wonderful, and the snowy scenery added to the atmosphere. The bath water was excellent, and my skin stayed smooth for a long time afterward. The food was delicious as well. It was my first time trying botannabe (wild boar hot pot). We were all full and very satisfied. It didn’t snow that much overnight, but by morning it seemed to be an unusually heavy snowfall even for the Accommodation, and everyone helped shovel snow and brush off the large amount that had piled up on our car. They also called to check whether we made it home safely. All of the staff were pleasant, and this is an Accommodation we would like to stay at again.

I had a relaxing time.
This was my second stay. It is a calm Ryokan where I could relax and spend time quietly. I requested the boar hot pot for the meal, and it was very delicious. The dishes were vegetable-rich, making them light yet satisfying with plenty of volume, leaving me very satisfied. However, it was quite cold, so I think improving the heating facility would be great. I would love to visit again if I have another opportunity.

The private Onsen with natural hot spring water contains chlorine. Disappointing. The kaiseki cuisine was advertised, but it was underwhelming.

4th Visit
My great-aunt, who has been under your care since she was 99 and will turn 102 next year, visited today to enjoy wild boar hot pot. This time, we reserved a room as accommodation near the red bridge in a detached area. Although we used a wheelchair, the staff kindly assisted us by taking us to the back side of the room with the accommodation's car, which was very helpful. Although we always leave the accommodation at night due to family circumstances, we thoroughly enjoyed our time. We heard that the menu changes every month and discussed visiting during a different month next year. Many thanks to your staff!

The bath was excellent!
The view from the open-air bath in the Room was excellent. The timing was perfect, with beautiful autumn leaves and a visible moon, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The Room was clean, and the amenities were well-stocked, leaving no complaints. If anything, the hairdryer felt quite standard—like something you might find at home—so a higher-quality one could have added a touch of luxury. I didn’t explore much of the Facility, but it didn’t seem to have any particularly special features, so I spent my time relaxing in the Room. The meals were plentiful and delicious, providing great satisfaction.

The bath and meals were satisfying.
I stayed at this accommodation with my parents for a long-awaited onsen trip. I didn't know such a place existed so close to the city center, but it was a ryokan with a charming historical atmosphere. The room was very clean and comfortable, allowing us to relax fully. The much-anticipated onsen was also spotless, and the water felt wonderful. Soaking in the open-air bath while listening to cicadas added a touch of elegance to the experience. The meals were carefully prepared one by one, and they tasted excellent. The balance of vegetables, meat, and fish was perfect. It was a relaxing trip after quite some time, and we had an amazing experience. I would love to visit again if I have another opportunity!

The Room is spacious, meals are served in private rooms, and the hot spring quality is excellent.
The staff were all very pleasant, the Room was spacious despite being old, and the bath was relaxing and not crowded. Meals were served in a private room, which was comfortable, but the loud voices from the neighboring room were slightly unpleasant. The food was delicious overall. The Wi-Fi signal was too weak; it would be great if it could reach the Room. On departure, it rained heavily, and I truly appreciated the driver’s thoughtful effort to keep us as dry as possible. The staff members were excellent overall.

Relax to the soothing sounds of the river and the beautiful calls of kajika frogs.
I chose this accommodation for three reasons: it has an onsen, it's located in a place where you can avoid traffic congestion, and it offers reasonable rates even during the Golden Week period. Overall, it was a very satisfying ryokan. We were given a room by the riverside, where we could hear the soothing sounds of the flowing river and the beautiful calls of kajika frogs, which was incredibly relaxing. The large public bath featured a small tub or pot with 17-18°C natural spring water that had not been heated or diluted, showcasing the ryokan's dedication to preserving its original quality. The aroma of the onsen was more pronounced in our private open-air bath attached to our room. The hospitality felt very natural and welcoming. However, I found dinner slightly disappointing—it was delicious but lacked local ingredients or unique features that would better match this accommodation fee range. Perhaps visiting during another season to try their boar hot pot would be more enjoyable. Compared to places like Hakone or Atami that often experience traffic jams and rising accommodation fees, this spot feels like a hidden gem with its unique atmosphere offering a touch of escape from everyday life—highly recommended!

Close.
The room was originally luxurious, but the renovated parts felt cheap and disappointing. The quality of the hot spring water was good, but there was a lack of amenities and towels. The food wasn't bad, but it lacked any standout dishes to boast about—while tasty, it wasn't entirely satisfying. The selection of local sake was delicious, but it might be worth checking out the menu of a top-tier Ryokan for inspiration; the presentation could be improved. Additionally, since the early checkout time meant I couldn't have breakfast, I requested something in return for that cost. They offered wine priced around 600–800 yen; however, as I had switched from beer to sake by then, sake would have been more appreciated. Everything feels so close yet falls short—disappointing for such a good Ryokan.

Visit after 2 years, 100 years old
We visited Tanuki Accommodation yesterday at the request of my great-aunt, who is now 100 years old and just a few months away from turning 101, to enjoy taro. From the warm welcome at the ryokan to the attentive service, we were deeply moved by a surprise from Motoyu Ryokan—a pink celebratory vest and hat for her 100th birthday, which made for a memorable photo session. The open-air bath, indoor bath, and meals were all highly satisfying. Upon checkout, staff kindly assisted by pushing her wheelchair up the charming slope to our car. We left with full hearts, feeling it was truly an exceptional ryokan with thoughtful hospitality. My great-aunt also mentioned that she heard from staff about their monthly changing menu and expressed her desire to visit again soon!

It was excellent, so I plan to stay again.
This was my first time using this service, and the staff were very kind. The food, room, and hot water were excellent, so I made a reservation for my son’s family living abroad to stay here during their visit to Japan.

An Onsen Property that you can reach in just under an hour even with traffic on the Tomei Expressway.
The property had a charming design, the onsen temperature was just right, and the food was delicious. It was also conveniently close to Tokyo. As advertised, it took only an hour from Tokyo without traffic; on the way back, it took less than an hour. On the way there, due to a traffic jam caused by an accident on the Tomei Expressway, it took 1 hour and 20 minutes from Setagaya-ku. It was great to find such an authentic onsen property so close by. Each room is designed as a standalone concept with charming corridors and a wooden deck with an open-air bath (we were upgraded to one with an open-air bath due to property circumstances). If I were to point out improvements for the room: The entrance area and bathroom/toilet were cold, especially the floor which made my feet cold. There wasn't any dim lighting available for sleeping. For the onsen: Two of the men's baths were lukewarm while one had impressive waterfall-like water at 42 degrees which was just right. The open-air bath's temperature was good at 41 degrees but mosquitoes (mosquitoes) were bothersome. The women's bath (men's bath on day two) had one indoor bath at a perfect 42 degrees; in contrast, hot water flowed into one side of the outdoor bath while cooler water flowed into another side making spot selection important inside (laughs). Near the entrance felt like 42-43 degrees while where water flows in felt over 44 degrees. The changing rooms and washing areas are well-equipped for women with partitions and mirrors; men might appreciate its spaciousness more. For improvements: In men's baths during evenings please turn heaters in changing rooms as bodies cool quickly otherwise; one hairdryer didn't blow warm air as it seemed broken. Meals were very delicious though portions slightly large. Service staff provided polite yet kind assistance—when I forgot part of my phone charger they lent me what I needed upon request at reception desk!

Good value for money on weekdays.
Perhaps because I stayed over the weekend, I wasn't very satisfied with the price. The food portions are large, but the menu seems like something you'd find at an izakaya, there are hardly any amenities, and the Room's open-air bath needs to be filled by yourself, plus the shower water pressure is too weak. It might have been better to stay in a Room without a bath rather than one with an open-air bath. However, the large public bath was nice, with raccoons around, good hot water, and both the open-air and indoor baths had their own charms. If you stay on weekdays, the cost performance might be better and you could be more satisfied.

Is Atsugi rural? The quantity and quality of the alkaline hot springs and the meals were very satisfying.
Although it is located west of Tokyo, Atsugi is often associated with being a large city with a base, but as you proceed along the mountain road, a large raccoon welcomes you. The slope is somewhat steep, but the facility is spacious, and the dining areas for morning and evening are separate, giving the impression of a vermilion-painted Ryugu Castle. Whether it's pH 9 or 11 varies according to the description, but the water is gentle on the skin with a perfect temperature setting, offering a range from slightly hot water to a waterfall massage, alternating baths with a cold spring of about 17 degrees, and a waterfall massage. The spaciousness is perfect for relaxing while gazing at the clear sky. The slipperiness is minimal, and it's pleasing to see that the hot spring is well-maintained. The meals feature mountain delicacies such as salt-grilled sweetfish and warmed sake in a bamboo tube with grilled sweetfish, which were enjoyable. The staff were cheerful and efficient. It might be nice if they were a bit more relaxed. Highly recommended as a hidden retreat inn for relaxation.

Showa-style Onsen Ryokan
Visited with my family of five in mid-September. It was my wife's birthday, and the weather was still like midsummer this year. My wife mentioned she hadn't had any ayu fish this year, so we reserved at Motoyu Ryokan aiming for the famous ayu of Atsugi Yamate. However, we were informed that the ayu season ended in August, but they said they would do their best. And on the day, we enjoyed a wonderful ayu feast! Thank you! The staff were full of the spirit of Showa-era hospitality. The hot springs were amazing! The kids were delighted to feed the goldfish and carp! The building is old! One request, the futons in the Japanese-style room were thin and hard, so please improve the cushioning a bit!
