    60th Birthday Celebration

We visited with our dog to celebrate my parents’ 60th birthday. The staff were kind, and the Ryokan was welcoming to both people and dogs. We were very satisfied with the meals! The Room and the in-room bath were spacious and very comfortable. Thank you very much.

A dog-friendly Ryokan where your pup comes first

Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay. Although the number of dog-friendly Ryokan and Hotels has been gradually increasing, there are still many restrictions, and this was the place where we truly enjoyed staying the most. Being able to have both dinner and breakfast served in our Room was something we really appreciated, and it was the most important point when choosing an Accommodation. The portion sizes were just right, and everything was very delicious. The complimentary chicken meatloaf meal for our dog also seemed very tasty, and even our picky eater ate it eagerly. The staff were warm and welcoming, the Room was clean and comfortable, and we felt this is a Ryokan we would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

It was an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again.

The dog-friendly Room was very clean, spacious, and almost felt too good to waste. The food was also delicious, and the Onsen water was silky and amazing. Both the large public bath and the in-room bath were excellent. I would have been even happier if there were a few more sightseeing spots nearby, but the Onsen alone was worth it.

    With your dog

The attendant who loves dogs was wonderful—not only in how they cared for our dog, but in every thoughtful detail. The meals were delicious, and the Onsen was excellent and very relaxing. They also had a good selection of dog supplies, and there were places nearby for a light walk. We didn’t use it, but the dog run is a bit small. Dinner was served in our Room, but our food-loving dogs stayed overly excited even after eating their dog meatloaf, so we couldn’t enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace, which was a shame. We had originally planned to go to Kyotango but changed plans at the last minute due to snow; we’d love to visit again in a different season. Next time, we might choose dinner in the dining area.

    Perfect for families with babies!

We stayed here for our first trip with our 4-month-old baby. While I was excited, I was also quite anxious as I had been meticulously researching everything. However, all my worries disappeared the moment we arrived at the Ryokan. Every staff member we encountered greeted us warmly and kindly—there wasn’t a single unfriendly person, which made us feel very reassured. Our assigned attendant was especially wonderful and incredibly thoughtful in every way. The room dining was delicious, and the Onsen was not crowded, allowing us to relax and unwind from daily stress. Traveling with a baby means everything revolves around them, but this Ryokan fully understood that concept and provided exceptional support tailored to our needs as parents of a baby (apologies if my explanation is lacking). We would love to stay here again in the future. Thank you so much!

    Hospitality Accommodation

The Onsen, cuisine, and staff were all highly satisfying. The attendant, despite being young, was very dedicated and left a great impression. While the facility was clean, its age was noticeable, and even for someone like me at 170 cm tall, the duvet felt short. Even with these points considered, it was a great accommodation overall.

    Dog-friendly Accommodation

All hospitality was dog-first, and we were very satisfied. It was our dog's first stay at one year old, so he barked a bit, but the assigned staff kindly handled him with care. We were able to enjoy meals together in the Room with our dog, and seeing him so happy made for a wonderful time. Since it was a weekday, I had the large public bath all to myself for a relaxing soak. When I went back for a second bath after dinner, it had already been cleaned and tidied up; the spotless floor left me impressed. Although the facilities are aged, they are consistently kept clean. The dog run was spacious enough for our Chihuahua—clean and odor-free—allowing us to spend time comfortably.

The menu mentioned Omi beef, but it was not served. The corn rice was listed, but it turned out to be plain white rice (laughs). It seems to have been a mistake, so attention to such details might be better. The accommodation was clean and satisfying.

A wonderful and comfortable accommodation for guests with dogs

It was my first trip to Shiga, and I traveled with my dog. The accommodation staff kindly picked us up from the nearest station, and the room was perfectly suited for staying with a dog. In fact, it was spacious enough for my dog to run around excitedly without any issues. The room was thoughtfully designed with all necessary amenities for dogs, making it very convenient. My dog quickly recognized the toilet area, which was incredibly helpful. The onsen for dogs allowed me to clean off any dirt right in the room after being outside—very convenient! Additionally, I appreciated being able to enjoy meals in the room together with my dog. The meals were exceptional, featuring local specialties such as fresh sashimi, Biwa Lake ayu fish, matsutake mushroom dobin-mushi soup, and Omi beef—all of which were absolutely delicious. Since we stayed for two nights, we opted for shabu-shabu instead of kaiseki on the second night. The Omi beef was tender and plentiful; it left us feeling very satisfied. Breakfasts were also luxurious. Although the bathhouse wasn’t very large, there weren’t many other guests at the same time so I could relax in peace at the open-air bath. Despite visiting during a hot summer (heatwave), which limited our sightseeing activities due to physical exhaustion from the heat, our stay at this accommodation and its wonderful cuisine made this trip a memorable one. All of the staff members were incredibly kind and attentive throughout our stay—thank you so much!

Ideal for guests traveling with pets.

The room and the bath were very clean. The meals were incredibly delicious and surprising. I was amazed by the taste of the seared bonito served as a vinegar dish, which I did not expect. The sashimi platter was also very tasty. However, ordering additional drinks during dinner through a tablet in the room felt overly digitalized and seemed to detract from the traditional atmosphere of an Onsen Ryokan. There was an unpleasant smell (possibly pet-related) lingering in the hallways outside the rooms and near the large communal bath, which was uncomfortable. It’s unfortunate because the Onsen water itself was excellent. Additionally, I had concerns about one of the staff's service attitude. The shuttle bus times after check-out were 10:00 / 10:20 / 10:50, and during dinner, I requested to take the 10:20 bus with one of your staff members. However, around 8:30 PM after dinner, they called my room asking me to switch to 10:50 instead while still requiring me to vacate my room by 10:00 AM. Spending those extra minutes waiting in a lounge felt inconvenient for me; so at check-out time when I asked again if it could be changed back into original timing (i.e., at exactly ten-twenty), another front desk member assured everything would work fine without issues whatsoever! While waiting inside said lounge sipping beverages calmly until approximately ten-past-ten o'clock mark someone kindly offered immediate transport services earlier than expected directly towards station destination smoothly handled professionally overall impression left positive except initial confusion caused unnecessary stress wondering whether misunderstanding occurred unintentionally hoping no ill-intent involved whatsoever!

    It is a good accommodation.

The room was spacious and clean, and the quality of the Onsen was excellent, but the parking lot was slightly inconvenient, which was a bit disappointing.

    Onsen with Your Dog

This was our first time staying here, and we were completely satisfied with everything. The staff were all friendly and kind to both us and our dog, and the meals were absolutely delicious. They even provided a dinner service for our dog, which he seemed to enjoy very much. It was a dog-friendly accommodation that we would love to visit again.

    Highly Satisfied

We stayed with our dog, and the first surprise was when the staff asked for a "paw shake." Our dog usually doesn't warm up to people easily, but they interacted so well that we felt at ease. The next surprise was the Room with an Onsen bath for dogs. We tried a half-body bath, and our dog's paw pads became incredibly soft. Even though our dog usually dislikes baths during grooming, they stood comfortably in the tub midway through and seemed to enjoy it. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    A bit disappointing

The service was good, but since the staff were older, I felt hesitant to ask for help with carrying luggage or during meals. The hallway leading to the Room was narrow and dimly lit, making it difficult for me as a senior to walk through. Additionally, the elevator was small, so it was challenging having to repeatedly yield to other guests.

    It exceeded expectations.

My first trip to Shiga, and of course my first time at Ogoto Onsen. After much deliberation between this ryokan and the highly-rated Yumoto, I decided on this one as it was slightly cheaper with fewer negative reviews. **Good Points** - The "Tsukiakari" room on the 5th floor with an open-air bath was recently renovated, spacious, and very clean. The semi-open-air bath was large enough to make me want to stay in forever. The silky water left my skin smooth, and the scent of cypress wood was soothing and pleasant. The hairdryer (Refa) and both straightening and curling irons were excellent additions. - Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Fresh sashimi, tender Omi beef bites, mountain vegetable rice—everything was incredibly delicious! I couldn't finish all the rice despite getting seconds; it felt like such a waste! Breakfast came with many small dishes that were visually delightful; opening each lid brought so much excitement! Everything tasted amazing, especially paired with freshly cooked rice—I ended up overeating in the morning! These kinds of meals are irresistible for women like me. From appetizers to desserts at both dinner and breakfast, every detail reflected thoughtful hospitality—truly satisfying. - Our assigned attendant for the room was friendly and easy to talk to; conversations were enjoyable throughout our stay. Meeting their adorable mascot dog "Mame-chan" before leaving added a lovely touch! **Disappointing Points** - Compared to our private bath inside the room, the public bath lacked views or appeal. Additionally, those red round stools felt slippery when sitting on them—not ideal from a hygiene perspective either. - On our way through shared areas like hallways leading toward rooms: signs showing wear-and-tear alongside cluttered spots detracted from what should've been luxurious surroundings overall. - While advertised as having Lake Biwa views directly visible outside windows—the presence nearby blocking sightlines due-to another large hotel building proved somewhat disappointing instead unfortunately unavoidable circumstances here though understandable nonetheless still worth noting briefly perhaps? In conclusion: Choosing this ryokan turned out perfect decision ultimately lucky timing right before Golden Week allowed us enjoy affordable rates too!

    Highly Satisfied

We discovered Kikuno-ya while searching for pet-friendly accommodation halfway between our home in Nagoya and Kobe, where a dog event was being held. The building has a slightly old-fashioned charm, reminiscent of a traditional ryokan, but the room was spacious and very clean—likely renovated. The private open-air bath attached to the room offered great relaxation when sliding open the door for an airy feel. However, since it’s on the second floor, I felt like I might make eye contact with people walking outside during my morning bath (laughs). The meals were the best among all accommodations we’ve stayed at this year. I believe you can judge the quality of Japanese cuisine by its sashimi, and theirs was excellent. Every dish exceeded expectations and left us fully satisfied. From arrival to departure, we were greeted with warm smiles throughout our stay and even saw off by their adorable mascot dog, Mame-taro-kun. We will definitely return again! P.S.: Just now, I happened to check their website and learned that their former mascot dog Maiko-chan has passed away. May she rest in peace.

It has become very beautiful after the renovation.

Before the renovation, the room had a bit of a historical feel, but after staying post-renovation, it was very clean and comfortable. There was also an Onsen for dogs, and we were able to let our dog enjoy it. Meals were served in the room as always, delicious and filling. It’s reassuring not having to leave your dog behind to go to a dining area. The newly added dog run requires diapers. Since it's quite small and doesn't allow dogs to use the toilet there due to diaper requirements, I felt it wasn’t very useful. Allowing dogs to relieve themselves outside helps reduce accidents in the room. We didn’t use it for this reason and hope this will be improved in the future. It would be great if diapers weren’t required next time we visit. Additionally, regarding the cage provided in the room: even for small dogs, energetic ones can jump out easily. Having a roof on the cage would provide more peace of mind.

    Noisy

Even after locking all the windows in the Room, the noise from outside was loud. I looked outside the window several times but couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. Was it a group of male guests? It was lively for so long that I couldn't fall asleep. At my age, I would like to fall asleep after 9 PM, but even around 9 PM, it was still noisy, and I couldn't sleep peacefully. I had taken a break hoping to relax, but it was disappointing. The Onsen was good.

    Very satisfied.

This was my first stay. I chose this property because I like to relax and bathe while looking at the waterside. I stayed alone, but the room was not too large and compact, making it comfortable to stay. The view from the open-air bath in the guest room was as expected. (A large hotel on the lakeside in the direction of the room was a bit of a hindrance...) The quality of the spring was also good. The essential oil salts in the large public bath? All three had different scents set. For the meal, I was torn between the Omi beef course and ended up choosing the Baumkuchen pork and Omi beef bite-sized steak. The Baumkuchen pork was also very delicious, so I was pleased. The meal was served in the room, but since it was served about three times, I could enjoy it calmly. The drinks were all-you-can-drink from the refrigerator, so I could take my time at my own pace. The phone service, shuttle service, and room staff were all wonderful. If I had to say, I think the entire building is non-smoking, but I was concerned that the first attendant smelled of cigarettes. The room was so comfortable that I couldn't spend time in the lounge, so I would like to relax next time.

    The best Stays

A property where you can stay with your dog! While many properties require you to leave your dog during meals or have separate activities, at Kikunoya-san, we were truly able to stay together the whole time. There was an onsen for dogs in the room, and we could enjoy delicious meals together in the same room. The staff's thoughtfulness was very much appreciated. We chose a room with an open-air bath, and it was truly the best. The room was also very clean. The staff's dedication to welcoming guests in the best possible way was evident and truly wonderful. We definitely plan to use this property again.

Staying at "Hanonn" with my dog, daughter and her husband, and grandchild.

The Facility as a whole had some areas, such as certain corridors, that felt a bit old, but the Room was equipped with a dining area and a private open-air bath with Onsen water that made the skin smooth, and it had been beautifully renovated. Additionally, Lake Biwa was clearly visible from the window, but from the outside, it was like a one-way mirror, ensuring privacy by preventing the interior from being seen. The staff, including the Nakai-san, were very friendly to both dogs and children, and their attentive care was impressive. Dinner was served in the room, and we enjoyed delicious local dishes such as Omi beef and Baumkuchen pork. At checkout, we took a commemorative photo with the mascot dog, Mame Taro. Overall, rather than a recently trendy stylish Ryokan, it had the atmosphere of a traditional warm Ryokan, allowing us to spend our time feeling cozy.

It was a very nice Stays.

I have visited various onsen ryokans with my beloved dog. When choosing a property, I prioritize having a room with a private open-air bath, being able to dine with my dog, and delicious meals. Kikuno-ya met all of these criteria. From the moment we arrived, they warmly welcomed us by calling my dog's name, and I was delighted with the cute bib gift. Additionally, they had prepared a treat for my dog in the room. Since meals were served in the room, we could enjoy a leisurely time with family and our dog while sipping on drinks. They even provided meals for my dog as a complimentary service, showcasing their exceptional hospitality. Besides the room bath, there was an onsen, allowing us to enjoy both. We also enjoyed a space in the lounge where we could relax with coffee and read, as well as a dog run. My elderly parents were with us, and every generation had a fun and memorable time. We would love to visit again for anniversaries or holidays. Thank you very much.

The meals were delicious, and I was able to relax in the Room's bath at a comfortable temperature. All the staff were pleasant. In particular, the attendant who took care of us was very humorous, and we had various conversations, joked around, and had a great time. The attendant was very good at giving compliments. It was nice to experience the atmosphere of staying at a Ryokan after a long time.

Both the staff and the meals were excellent.

We stayed for the first time with our 7-month-old puppy. The staff's response was excellent, and we were able to spend our time with peace of mind. The meals, including Omi beef, were wonderful, and we were surprised at how delicious the rice was for both dinner and breakfast. The changing room in the women's bath is a bit small, so it might be better to avoid peak times when there are many people.
