The bath was wonderful. Dinner was also excellent, but I would have preferred a private dining room. If possible, I’d like to bring my grandchildren next time.

Spectacular Views from the Bath
The view from the large public bath’s infinity open-air bath was wonderful. The ocean view the moment we entered the Room was also amazing. The staff at the Accommodation were very kind, and overall it was an Accommodation we were almost completely satisfied with. However, the meals were disappointing... If the food improves, we would like to stay again.

It was excellent.
I’d been wanting to visit for a long time, and if I was going, I really wanted to stay on the Sky Floor. While trying to avoid the rainy season and the heat, I was lucky enough to secure a Reservation on the Sky Floor, so I was truly looking forward to it. Then, unbelievably, a typhoon arrived on our stay date (lol). I kept checking the forecast hoping it would clear up, and maybe my wish came true—the typhoon veered away—so we were able to enjoy everything to the fullest! The ocean view from the bed in our Room and the scenery from the open-air bath in the guest room were both absolutely stunning. The infinity bath in the large public bath also moved me. The meals were delicious too—the broth for the conger eel shabu-shabu was outstanding. If I can get another Reservation, I’d definitely love to come back. It was also great that our Room had both a ReFa and a Dyson hair dryer!

Spectacular Views, Dining, and Service
The view of Shodoshima from the open-air bath is nothing short of spectacular. Beyond the facilities, the warm service and smooth operations by the international staff exceeded expectations—this Accommodation was honestly better than I imagined! Taking a local train from Himeji to Ako Onsen also made the trip feel extra special. I also really appreciated the thoughtful touches in the room, such as the 500 ml bottled water. I’ll be back—thank you very much.

Thank you for the delicious meal.
When my 70th birthday was celebrated here nearly two years ago, the meals and baths were wonderful, so this time I invited friends and stayed overnight. Both of them were very happy, and that made me happy too. They loved the salt lemon sold at the shop and ended up buying it all. I wanted two as well, but since I’m local, I let them have it. The view is great, and at checkout they even took photos of us dressed as the Ako Ronin—it was a close friends’ trip for the first time in almost half a century. The only disappointment was that both of my friends enjoy alcohol, but I can’t drink. I’d like to see a better selection of soft drinks. There were only oolong tea and juice, and when we ordered orange juice it was unexpectedly Bireley’s served with both the bottle and a glass, which was a bit disappointing. At least please serve it by pouring it into a glass with ice. I’d also like to see more items on the menu—there seems to be room for ideas such as yuzu soda or Setouchi lemon lemonade. The restaurant staff—many of whom were from overseas—worked very hard. The service was warm and pleasant. Thank you very much.

The view and the foo...
The view and the food were both excellent. The open-air bath, in particular, offered a full ocean view and was spacious and very relaxing. However, it was disappointing that there was no coffee service. It would be nice if there were instant coffee and cups in the Room at least. We visited to celebrate a 70th birthday this time, and we truly appreciated the celebratory gift.

Fully satisfied with the open-air bath connected to the sea
Soaking in the tub, I felt at one with the sea, with the islands of the Seto Inland Sea visible in the distance—it was a wonderfully relaxing open-air bath, just as rumored. Also, although we were told it was a poor catch this year, the various Sakoshi oyster dishes—another highlight of this trip—were all delicious. The staff were courteous and attentive, and it was a great time to unwind and feel refreshed. The only disappointment was that we couldn’t book an ocean-side Room; if we have another chance, we’d love to stay in an ocean-side Room next time.

Disappointing service
Although our group stays at various accommodations every month, unfortunately we all felt we would not return here. The day after heavy snowfall, the Special Rapid Service was delayed and we missed our connection to Ako, arriving an hour late. We explained this by phone, but no Shuttle Service was provided. One taxi was not enough, so we had to split up into multiple taxis. At check-in in the lobby, we were asked about foods we cannot eat, and one person told them they cannot eat raw items such as sashimi. Then, when we entered the Room, there were crumbs on the floor. The TV antenna was not connected and the TV would not turn on. The Room was small and the sink area felt cramped. The entryway to the Room was narrow and difficult to use. The futons were also tightly packed. It did not feel like a Room worth the price. For dinner, despite having informed them that one person cannot eat raw food, the same sashimi as everyone else was served. We were then told to cook it in the beef shabu-shabu instead, which surprised us. The dining room also had no windows and felt cold at our feet, and we had to walk through a back corridor where you could see into what looked like a kitchen… which was shocking. In February, in the bath area restroom, power to the heated toilet seat had been turned off; it was so cold that one friend jumped in surprise. However, the bath itself is an infinity bath with a good temperature, and we were satisfied with it. Given all of this, it is only natural that none of us would choose to return.

It was an amazing experience.
Initially, we reserved a Japanese-style room on the ocean side, but since a Japanese-Western style room on the Sunset Floor with an amazing ocean view became available, we changed to that option. Upon entering the room, we were impressed by the perfect balance of cleanliness and comfort. The thoughtful design for guests' convenience was evident in every detail, allowing us to relax immediately and feel truly happy. Both baths were excellent (though I did think it would be nice if the men's bath in the morning could be switched to women's use—just a thought!). We were so glad to have stayed here. As for meals, the ingredients were exceptional and everything was delicious. However, it might have been even more enjoyable if there had been some creative twists—like incorporating slightly Chinese or Western flavors—to add variety throughout dinner. Breakfast was also very tasty; however, we personally felt that yudofu wasn’t necessary as there was already plenty of food. Before checking out, we wished we'd had time to relax at the beautiful lounge right in front of the sea. This ryokan truly lives up to its high reviews! Thank you very much!

Early Morning Onsen
Soaking in the open-air bath by the sea early in the morning while watching flocks of geese fly by was incredibly calming. It felt like a wonderful start to the New Year.

The dining experience was disappointing.
We booked a Japanese-style Room Plan with breakfast included and no dinner, as we planned to have dinner with relatives in Ako. We were very much looking forward to enjoying a leisurely breakfast together while admiring the ocean view. However, when we went to the dining area in the morning, our names were not listed for the ocean-view dining room, and we were guided to an adjacent dining room instead. This room lacked any view and felt somewhat unwelcoming (this was our impression). After breakfast, we approached the front desk to ask if this arrangement was due to us not having dinner at the Ryokan (as it diminished our enjoyment of what we had been eagerly anticipating). That said, from our third-floor Room, we could enjoy a beautiful ocean view. The scenery from the open-air Onsen was also stunning and truly exceptional. The staff members were kind and attentive as well. In light of this experience, however busy reservations may be in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if improvements could be made regarding scheduling for dining areas. While some other guests also dined in that same room with us, once assigned there is little choice but to accept it—this can affect one's overall impression of the Ryokan. Although there remains some lingering disappointment on this matter, I sincerely hope that these points will be addressed moving forward.

Highly Satisfied!!
We celebrated my sister-in-law and her husband's golden wedding anniversary, along with other milestones such as the late father-in-law's 100th birthday if he were alive. Five of us, including my wife’s siblings and brother-in-law, stayed together. This was our third stay at this accommodation—my spouse and I first visited for a couple's trip, enjoying the oyster-themed dinner and stunning open-air bath; then we returned with our daughter for a second visit. This time, five early seniors over 65 had fun playing cards with the large-sized deck thoughtfully provided. The renowned bath was as amazing as ever. Dinner was highly anticipated—a "Celebration Plan" featuring champagne for a toast, gold sake cups for the golden anniversary couple, red-and-white tied sea bream sushi balls, commemorative Imabari towels as gifts, and more. The highlight was undoubtedly the signature dish: salt-crusted sea bream. Not only were we amazed by its size but also enjoyed breaking it open with a wooden mallet—a delightful experience! The variety of dishes stimulated all senses; everything was delicious and satisfying to the point that we couldn’t finish it all! We appreciated their kind service of delivering leftover sea bream rice in onigiri form to our room later on. We look forward to finding another opportunity to stay here again in the future. Thank you very much!

First Time at Ako Onsen
I stayed at an accommodation in Ako Onsen for the first time. The view from the bath was great, the meals were delicious, and it was a wonderful experience. It was a bit disappointing that I had to leave my car key because there were limited parking spaces.

It was truly a wonderful accommodation.
I used the shuttle service. There were quite a few guests using the bus, so I was prepared for a long wait to check in after arriving at the hotel. However, instead of standing in line at the counter, I was invited to sit on a sofa and relax with some tea while being attended to. This thoughtful consideration for guests truly moved me. The staff also took into account busy times for the baths and sunset viewing hours, offering optimal suggestions without being pushy to accommodate our preferences. Despite being such a popular accommodation, they remained humble and provided attentive hospitality that genuinely reflected their dedication to guest satisfaction. It was one of those rare accommodations that made me feel from the bottom of my heart, "I want to come back again!" The bath was, of course, absolutely wonderful as well. Thank you very much!

The issue with toilet towels.
The Onsen was excellent. However, in the Room's toilet and washroom, there were no towels to dry hands after washing them. Do guests need to open the toilet door and then the washroom door to use a paper towel for drying their hands? Isn't this unhygienic? Is this considered normal in Ako?

Maybe I expected too much.
This year, as both my spouse and I celebrated our 60th birthdays, we decided to stay at Ginpaso Ryokan for a special celebration. Having seen it frequently on TV and in magazines, we were excited about this trip. To make the most of this occasion, we booked a room with an infinity onsen bath well in advance. On the day of our stay, the weather was perfect as we checked in with great anticipation. The room matched the photos perfectly; its interior was beautiful, and from the private onsen bath, we could enjoy a stunning view of the blue sea. We were delighted with our choice of room. However, unfortunately, that was where our satisfaction ended. After checking in, we headed straight to "Tenkaiju," Ginpaso's signature large public bath. While soaking in the bath did provide a sense of openness as if connected to Seto Inland Sea, I found that its strong saline chloride low-temperature spring water did not suit me. The high salt content made my eyes sting when water splashed into them—hardly conducive to relaxing both body and mind. The biggest disappointment during our stay was undoubtedly the dining experience at "Fukujutei," where both breakfast and dinner were served. Perhaps it was just bad timing during our visit; there were two large family groups dining noisily nearby while children roamed freely around the floor. This made it impossible for us to enjoy a peaceful meal together. For accommodation at this price point, such an unsettled dining environment is unacceptable—it’s something I’ve never experienced before elsewhere. At minimum consideration should be given toward partitioning individual guests or offering private rooms for meals if they wish not merely remain labeled “a scenic but ordinary large-scale ryokan.” As far food quality goes? Nothing stood out enough even worth remembering afterward—a letdown overall compared expectations set beforehand!

The meals were excellent, and above all, the attentiveness of all the staff was outstanding, providing a truly relaxing experience. However, as a sauna enthusiast, I found the cold bath to be lukewarm.

First Stay at Ginpaso
This was my first time staying here. I stayed on the Yuunagi Floor, Seiran Room. The room was compact but new and clean, with well-equipped outlets and USB ports. The panoramic view of Harima-nada from the room was stunning. The private open-air bath in the room was small but had a great view, allowing me to enjoy it multiple times. It was convenient that the shower room connected directly to the open-air bath. However, while it was nice that you could see the TV in the living area through glass from the open-air bath, it felt less private as you could also see into the bath from the living area. Installing blinds on this glass would improve privacy. The toilet being connected to the dressing area made it inconvenient for others when someone used this space for changing or bathing. Amenities in the washroom were new and high-quality, though unfortunately, I found that batteries in the scale were dead. I used "Tenkai no Yu" public bath which also offered a great view and excellent water quality. There seemed to be different types of water between its large indoor tub and outdoor section at its edge; both were enjoyable options depending on preference. However, coverings installed presumably for privacy looked somewhat industrial like construction site barriers—perhaps more aesthetically pleasing solutions could be considered. Both dinner and breakfast were served in a large dining hall with many guests present; especially during dinner time when it felt overly crowded making relaxed dining difficult at best despite efforts by service staff who mostly appeared non-Japanese yet earnestly tried explaining things using studied Japanese which left positive impressions overall even if challenges remained evident such as forgetting orders entirely (e.g., wine bottle ordered never arrived leading us eventually canceling). Food itself wasn’t bad per se though handling mass numbers simultaneously within one venue likely affected aspects like sashimi freshness slightly negatively while clam miso soup served during breakfast still contained sand grains inside suggesting rushed preparation amidst chaotic scenes involving children aplenty alongside overwhelmed-looking staff struggling visibly under pressure leaving impression mistakes inevitable under circumstances compared against prior experience staying next-door Shokichi where meals enjoyed separated spaces offering calmer atmosphere instead. In summary: While unique location coupled alongside exceptional rooms undeniably standout features hard replicable elsewhere unfortunately meal-related experiences including surrounding environment fell short delivering fully satisfying outcomes overall disappointing given potential otherwise evident throughout stay here

Excellent service, comfortable Room
Located about a 2-hour drive from Kobe, I visited this place after a round of golf. Upon arrival, I realized I had been here before as a child with my parents. The entire Hotel, including the Room and lobby, has been recently renovated and is very clean and comfortable. The Room featured an indoor bath and terrace with breathtaking views of the Seto Inland Sea and Shodoshima Island among other islands. The indoor bath was made of stone with Onsen water, offering ample water flow and even providing sea views through the Room's design. The interior was beautifully maintained, and the Simmons bed ensured a comfortable stay. There are two Onsen facilities on the lower floor that alternate between men’s and women’s use daily. One features an infinity pool design extending towards the sea. The spring quality is smooth saline-based water that warms you thoroughly. The cuisine consisted of a Japanese course meal with subtle flavors that showcased meticulous preparation typical of fine Japanese dining. The abalone main dish was exceptional. After dinner, I joined an optional firefly viewing mini-drive tour offered by the Hotel. A 25-minute bus ride took us to Okayama Prefecture's firefly viewing spot where we enjoyed seeing numerous fireflies in complete darkness. Overall, staff hospitality was outstanding, making it an enjoyable trip overall. My only minor critique would be that the location of the safe in our Room was slightly inconvenient but not significantly problematic for our stay.

It was a wonderful place.
The view was amazing, and the scenery from the bath was breathtaking. The meals were very delicious, and I was impressed by the whole abalone steak. All the staff were very kind, making this trip with friends truly memorable. After returning from the bath, I was delighted to find ice-cold water prepared for us. While hotels are often just a place to sleep, this Hotel offers a relaxing stay in your Room as well. However, it felt like a maze inside the Hotel and was a bit confusing to navigate; also, check-in took quite some time due to how crowded it was—this part was slightly disappointing. Still, I definitely want to visit this Hotel again!

As the name suggests, a breathtaking open-air bath.
I had seen photos before, but experiencing it in person, I truly believe this is an open-air bath with a breathtaking view. For dinner, I chose the oyster kaiseki course, and the oysters were plump and thick, allowing me to enjoy a variety of dishes. It would have been even better if there was a bit more coffee and dessert after the meal.

Oyster Onsen Day Trip for One
I visited for a day trip to the Onsen after five years, as I love oysters. Due to snow and an accident, the train was significantly delayed, and I couldn't make it in time for the shuttle bus. However, when I called, they kindly came to pick me up—truly exceptional service. The Onsen at Ginpaso is deep with a salty aroma that warms you to your core even in a short time. It's amazing! I seem to recall there used to be a standing bath; has it been removed? I hope it can be brought back someday. The oyster dishes were fantastic—plump oysters in hot pot, steamed dishes, and kamameshi made the long journey worthwhile. It would be great if raw oyster options could be added to the menu as well. I’d love to visit again for an overnight stay!

It was a spectacular view.
The open-air bath with a view of the sea, just like in the photos, was amazing. You can also enjoy the ocean view from the lobby and guest rooms, and were soothed by the faint sound of waves. The dishes were beautifully presented and very delicious. Recently, some places provide two types of clothing: yukata and samue for sleeping; it would have been even better if this property did so as well. Additionally, perhaps due to expansion, there are separate elevators for going to the bath and dining area, which confused some elderly guests. I think it would be better if the flow was simpler overall; however, it was a property I would like to visit again.

I used the day trip ...
I used the day trip plan. It was a very cold and windy day, but the open-air bath near the sea was rather pleasant and felt very good. The oyster course meal at the clean dining area was splendid and satisfying. The staff were all smiling, and the service was good. Since there is a shuttle service to and from the station, it is easy to visit even without a car. The facility has been renovated and looks beautiful, but there are few restrooms; I thought it would have been nice if they were attached to the dining area, so I deducted one star for that reason. Overall, I am very satisfied. Thank you very much.
