    This is a recommended accommodation for visiting Zenkoji Temple.

    It was my first time staying at this accommodation, and it was a wonderful experience. The vegetarian cuisine was very delicious, including the kenchin soup and sesame tofu, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The private bath system allowed me to relax without any concerns. The morning service the next day was explained in detail by the guide, allowing me to learn a lot. I also had a chance to try zazen meditation upon prior request, and as a beginner, the head priest kindly guided me through it. I would love to stay here again when visiting Zenkoji Temple.

    The morning service was wonderful.

    The accommodation offered exceptional hospitality and clean facilities, far exceeding expectations for a temple lodging. While the room did not have a private bath or toilet, the shared areas were spotless and well-maintained. The bath could be reserved for private use at designated times, making it very comfortable. Meals consisted of beautifully prepared and delicious vegetarian cuisine served in the morning and evening. Alcohol was also available upon request. Participating in the morning service alone made the stay worthwhile! Before dawn, guests gathered to join a guided session explaining the history of Zenkoji Temple, its relationship with surrounding temples, and details about its architecture before attending the service. During the service, explanations about etiquette and meanings behind each ritual were provided, allowing participants to fully appreciate their significance. I learned so much that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own. This is an excellent accommodation I would highly recommend to others!

    I stayed on February...

    I stayed on February 22nd. The guidance and explanation for the morning service were very clear, making it a valuable experience. The room was warm, the bedding was comfortable, and I was able to rest well. I was impressed by the dedicated efforts of the staff but noticed a few areas for improvement. During dinner, it took over 30 minutes after the dishes were set before rice and miso soup were served, and there was no response when calling out to the back area. Additionally, while sutra copying was a good experience, there was no explanation about its fee, which led to confusion when settling it the next morning. It seemed that there might be operational challenges due to a limited number of staff attending to guests. Since this is such an excellent facility, I hope these issues can be addressed. My apologies if my feedback seems direct; I hope it can contribute to improving your services in the future.
