    Exceptional hospitality

    Because the Reviews were so good, we stayed here for the first time as a couple. As soon as we arrived at the Ryokan, we were warmly welcomed; they moved our car and carried our luggage for us. A lovely attendant guided us to our Room, and I was surprised—in a way you rarely see these days—that she even made tea for us. The meals were outstanding, the staff were kind, and I think the Onsen had the best water I’ve ever experienced. It was a truly wonderful Ryokan, exactly as described in the Reviews. Everything—the meals, the Onsen, and the staff—was excellent, so I hesitated about mentioning this: the futon mattress was thin, and the comforter was a traditional heavy cotton quilt. It bothered me only slightly, though—we would definitely like to stay again.

    Make a last-minute Reservation the night before.

    The facilities are very clean and have a calm atmosphere. The proprietress and all the staff have wonderful smiles. The meals were delicious and served in just the right portions. One thing: for elderly guests with knee pain, a bed is essential, as it’s difficult to get up from a futon. Even so, thanks to the wonderful power of the Onsen, I slept soundly and deeply. Thank you.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    It was a wonderful Ryokan. I loved the Onsen water quality, and I was able to relax completely in the open-air bath on the rooftop. The meals were also very delicious. You could really feel the chef’s care in each carefully prepared dish; I hope the rice served will be of a standard that matches it. I couldn’t say it was at its best, so I think it could be improved further by adjusting how it’s kept warm, for example. It was an excellent Accommodation.

    We would love to stay here again.

    On my first trip with my younger sister, we stayed at Ogiharakan after visiting Zenkoji Temple.\nThe hot spring was wonderful, and we enjoyed the bath many times.\nFor dinner we chose the wagyu course, and for breakfast we chose a Japanese-style meal—everything was delicious, and we ended up eating so eagerly that we barely talked.\nAbove all, the proprietress and everyone at the Accommodation were very kind, and we would love to stay again.\nThank you very much.

    An Accommodation Where You Can Experience the Deep Charm of Kamiyamada

    After work on Friday, I thought I had booked an affordable Ryokan. But even though I arrived late at night, the proprietress welcomed me in a kimono. It was only a brief interaction, yet it felt truly warm. That spirit showed in the staff and in the spotless Facility and amenities, making this Accommodation exceptionally clean and relaxing. A traditional Onsen Ryokan with over 100 years of history, nestled along the Chikuma River. It may not be flashy, but I believe it is a wonderful Ryokan that offers value you cannot buy with money.

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again

    I unexpectedly had some time off, so I ended up going again… Ogiharakan. To be honest, I’ve visited Nagano many times and hardly do any sightseeing anymore. The Onsen has a slightly strong sulfur scent, and the open-air bath offers a wonderful view. The portions aren’t large, but the food is excellent—honestly, that’s what I went for. I travel to many places, but there are only a handful of Accommodations I truly want to return to. I don’t want it to become too famous and make Reservations harder to get, but if you want to “take it slow,” “feel refreshed,” or simply “enjoy the Onsen,” I really hope you’ll give it a try.

    Highly satisfied

    We stayed with a group of 11 the day before our company general meeting. The proprietress and all staff were wonderful, and both the meals and the baths were excellent. It was truly a fantastic Accommodation, and I would love to visit again with my family.

    This was my first time staying here.

    This was my first stay. The Accommodation is small, with only 13 rooms, and I was impressed by how attentive the proprietress and staff were. At check-in, the proprietress personally checked and prepared a yukata that suited me. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and I appreciated the handmade touch from the chef. The foreign staff member who seemed to be in charge of us was wonderful, with an excellent smile. When we returned from dinner, the teacups and teapot had been replaced with fresh ones, and they had also prepared a pot of iced water for us! I truly felt relaxed and refreshed, and I can do my best at work tomorrow as well. The only disappointment was that the TV wasn’t an Android TV, but that’s just our personal preference. Thank you very much.

    Nagano Trip

    Every year during Golden Week, I visit Togakushi to see friends who live there. Last year, I stayed the night before in Matsushiro near Nagano City, but this time I wanted to stay at an Onsen Ryokan, so I chose Hagiwarakan. I was truly impressed by the warm and courteous welcome from the proprietress and staff. The Room was simple and clean, and since the dining area had just been renovated, we enjoyed a private room that felt nicely secluded. The best part was being able to soak 24 hours a day in the open-air baths on the 1st and 5th floors with free-flowing natural hot spring water—it was wonderful. Surrounded by the scent of sulfur and soft water, it was pure bliss. Dinner was generous and delicious, and the miso soup served at breakfast was so good that when I asked a staff member about it, they kindly told me where it came from—and I even got to visit that shop as well. I also visited Obasute Station after seeing a poster inside the building. Togura Kamiyamada Onsen was truly charming. I would love to stay at Hagiwarakan again next year. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Relaxing Trip

    This was our first stay. The staff were always smiling and wonderful, and this lovely Accommodation helped us relax and unwind. Every dish was delicious, and we ended up eating until we were completely full. We’ve found an Accommodation we’d love to visit again. Since we enjoy a slow-paced trip, we would be happy if breakfast could be served at 8:30 and checkout could be at 11:00. Next time, we’d like to visit with the whole family.

    Enjoy a free-flowing Onsen

    We decided on Ogihara because our family wanted to visit an Onsen again after a long time, and it offers free-flowing hot spring baths. Right after check-in, we headed straight to the large public bath. It was probably fully booked since it was the first day of a three-day weekend, but even families with small children followed good Onsen etiquette, so we could relax. The large public bath is on the first floor, and the open-air bath is on the top floor. Both had a strong sulfur scent, and our skin felt nicely moisturized. The open-air bath was a deep green color on check-in day, but by the next morning it had changed to a slightly greenish milky white—really giving that true free-flowing Onsen feel. We also appreciated being able to enjoy an elaborate breakfast in a private room. Everyone in our family agreed it was a wonderful Onsen.

    The open-air bath is exceptional.

    The open-air bath was incredibly warming to the core. In the morning, we enjoyed stunning mountain views, which made it a perfect experience. The large public bath was also spacious and relaxing. We truly appreciated the warm hospitality extended to our children. Thank you very much!

    A Relaxing Getaway for Mind and Body

    The renowned waters of Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, the delicious seasonal local cuisine, the clean and well-maintained rooms and facilities—all were excellent. However, what stood out the most was the impeccable hospitality of the staff, led by the proprietress. It was a truly relaxing stay that rejuvenated both body and mind. While it cannot be captured in photos, I was deeply satisfied with the heartfelt service that left a lasting impression.

    The hostess's thoughtful hospitality

    From the moment of arrival, the hostess provided very thoughtful and attentive care. For elderly guests, having handrails for putting on and taking off shoes in the facility could help reduce the risk of falls and make it more accommodating for them.

    Disappointing service...

    This was my first time staying at this accommodation. I enjoyed relaxing in the onsen and the delicious meals. However, I was disappointed with the service provided by the attendant. When I asked about local information upon arriving at the accommodation, they seemed either too busy, uninterested, or unsure and gave off an unapproachable vibe. During meals, there were no explanations about the dishes when they were served; instead, we received some explanation after finishing our meal. While I understand that they may have been busy, we are also paying guests. Additionally, when asking for local recommendations to plan our next day's itinerary, they still did not provide any helpful answers... This was disappointing. On a positive note, the proprietress and manager? were very kind and accommodating.

    I feel refreshed.

    I wanted to visit the Hokusai Museum and considered nearby accommodations. However, I was drawn to the name Togura Kamiyamada Onsen and trusted IKYU to book Hagihara-kan. Despite arriving early, the hostess provided a very warm welcome. I enjoyed an early bath, which was clean and not too hot, allowing me to soak for a long time while warming my body. The open-air bath above had no unnecessary elements, making it comfortable and perfect for a long soak—truly wonderful. After relaxing in the room, dinner was delicious! I ate until I was full and fell asleep right away. Perhaps because of that, I woke up early and indulged in a luxurious morning bath—it felt amazing! My skin became smooth as silk. Breakfast was also delicious once again. I had such a wonderful time that relieved all my work-related stress and daily fatigue. Thank you very much!

    No Meals Included.

    I stayed with my colleagues with a No Meals Included plan. The Ryokan itself does not feel particularly luxurious, but the heartfelt hospitality was evident from the words of the hostess upon our arrival. Both the lobby and guest rooms were clean. However, the elevator is a bit small. The large public bath feels a bit old, but it offers an excellent Onsen experience where you can relax and warm up thoroughly. Additionally, the rooftop open-air bath provides an outstanding sense of openness with a view overlooking the Onsen town! There’s also a FamilyMart right next door, so no worries if you get hungry! Our trip to Togura Kamiyamada Onsen and its surrounding Onsen town was very enjoyable and satisfying, so I highly recommend it!!!

    The hostess was absolutely wonderful, and the service from other staff members was excellent as well. The Onsen was average, but the dining staff provided exceptional service—thank you for your hard work. I wish I could have tried the Inari sushi made by the hostess. If I have the chance, I would love to visit again.

    Lots of souvenirs

    We stayed as a family and enjoyed both the meals and the Onsen. All the dishes suited our taste perfectly. If I may add, it would have been even better if there were seasonal fruits like grapes for either dinner or breakfast. However, we were very satisfied with both the variety and content of the meals. Breakfast was filled with irresistible side dishes that made us keep eating rice non-stop. The tea in the room was delicious, and we appreciated having cold water provided as well—a thoughtful touch. Additionally, having bar soap available in the bath was a big plus for us soap enthusiasts; it's something you don't often find these days elsewhere. We also bought some "rice thief" items like soy sauce beans, botankosho, and black ginger as souvenirs to take home!

    A long-time favorite Onsen Ryokan. I took some time off and visited, partly to enjoy the accommodation itself. Delicious Ryokan meals, savoring drinks, soaking in the open-air bath... Rather than enjoying large-scale Onsen accommodations, this is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate.

    Affordable during Golden Week

    During Golden Week, I visited an onsen with my husband, who is undergoing medical treatment, for a change of pace. The reservation process was smooth, the reviews were good, and it was reasonably priced. It was a cozy accommodation with hardworking staff that gave off a warm and homely atmosphere. The large bath felt like a private one, which was great. The hostess was friendly, and as the place had just been renovated with many orchids displayed, I felt like cheering on this accommodation to succeed.

    The hot water is good.

    The Room was unexpectedly small, and the heating was only an air conditioner, which made it quite dry. There was a humidifier available for rent, but we didn't notice it and by the next morning everyone's voice was hoarse. It might be good to have one on hand. The private dining experience was nice but cold. A heater would be better as my feet got cold. The bath being available until morning was very nice. The food was impeccable!

    Has great potential to become more popular.

    The water was soft, and it was a very clean property. You can see the hard work of the staff behind the scenes. If you're not too far away, please visit at least once. As an aside... Instead of "influencers" to attract younger guests, how about branding the back hill with Shiroyama Park's red neon lights as "Shinshu's Hollywood" and renovating it as a town-wide effort with names like "TOGURA KAMIYAMADA"? Planning for cycling guests would also be good. It was an onsen town I definitely want to visit again.

    It was very good.

    The facility felt old, but it was clean and pleasant. The hostess was friendly, and the children seemed happy to be spoken to. The meals were delicious, and the onsen was nice. As others have mentioned, the changing room was cold, which was unfortunate, but even so, it was a ryokan I would like to visit again.

    The staff's service was excellent.

    The staff who assisted us seemed inexperienced, but their earnestness was heartwarming. The other staff members also provided courteous service, allowing us to enjoy our stay pleasantly. The bath was nice, although it was a bit disappointing that the water was slightly lukewarm, and the rooftop open-air bath felt a bit cramped if there were three other guests. In my case, there was no one else, so I was able to relax and enjoy it. I would like to visit again if I have the opportunity.

    Relaxing Stays

    The Onsen had a water quality that made me want to enter it repeatedly. Although colorless, the water had a sulfur smell and was pleasantly hot. After bathing, my skin felt very smooth. The building felt old, but it was well-cleaned, making it a pleasant experience. The meals were just the right amount, and everything was delicious.
