    A charming traditional Accommodation

    While the building and Room show their age, the meals are extremely satisfying. In particular, the steamer basket dish made with Kaga vegetables served at breakfast is exquisite. Both dinner and breakfast were thoughtfully prepared and excellent.

    Family Trip

    We stayed as a family. Even though we arrived late at the Accommodation, thank you for welcoming us so kindly. Everything we had was delicious, but the chilled pumpkin soup at dinner was especially wonderful. The pork miso soup in the morning was also excellent. All of the staff were smiling and very kind. It was a truly great Accommodation.

    Thank you for a wonderful time.

    This Accommodation exceeded my expectations. The Room layout was well designed, and I stayed very comfortably. The view is also wonderful. The sauna is spacious enough for about 4–5 people, allows temperature adjustment, and you can enjoy löyly. The cold plunge is also plenty large, and ice is provided for those who want colder water—so you can fully enjoy the sauna exactly the way you like. The in-room Onsen is spacious enough for two people. The water has a slightly silky feel and leaves your skin nicely moisturized. The amenities were excellent as well. The private lounge offers a great selection of drinks and snacks, which you can bring back to your Room—so it feels essentially all-inclusive. I had a Multiple Night Stay, and the meals did not overlap between the first and second nights, allowing me to truly enjoy local specialties. Everything was delicious. I was very satisfied with both the Facility and the food, but what impressed me most was the staff’s hospitality—from dining staff to front desk to housekeeping. Their warm attentiveness really touched me. I would love to visit again.

    Were my expectations too high?

    As this is a long-established Accommodation, I made a Reservation expecting it to be wonderful. However, we had to carry our own luggage and even turn on the air conditioner in the Room ourselves. We also could not choose the meal time, and before we could even use the bath, it was immediately time for dinner. I assume the cuisine was intended to be a mix of Japanese and Western styles, but comments saying “the food is delicious”? I find that hard to understand—the flavors of the ingredients did not come through. The taste was half-hearted and disappointing. Everything was disappointing; even the front desk staff looked stern. The only positive point was the thoughtful care from our attendant.

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Stay at Again

    The building is old, but it is well maintained. All the staff were kind, and they took a photo of me with my husband; when we left, they put it in a photo frame and gave it to us as a gift, which became a wonderful memory. I have visited Yamanaka Onsen many times, but this was my first stay at TawarayA Accommodation. It’s an Accommodation I would definitely like to stay at again.

    A welcoming Accommodation with delicious cuisine

    We stayed as a family of three to celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday. We visited after Eiheiji Temple in Fukui, as we had read in Reviews that the meals were delicious. Since we informed you in advance about the celebration, we were given parking close to the entrance and a Room near the elevator, so my mother was able to stay comfortably. You also prepared a purple celebratory vest for her and even framed a photo from our meal as a gift, which became a wonderful family memory. The weather was great, and the fresh May greenery seen from the Onsen and our Room was beautiful. For dinner we enjoyed the Kikuka Kaiseki course; everything—from the appetizers and spring dobin-mushi to grilled blackthroat seaperch and scallops—was beautifully presented and truly delicious. The gentleman who served us was new since April, and he did his best to explain each dish and check on us, which made the evening enjoyable. Please keep up the great work. The young woman also complimented my mother’s outfit, and we could really feel your spirit of hospitality. Everyone seemed well trained, which made us feel very comfortable. Thank you as well for the courteous service from both the front desk staff and parking staff. After our stay, it was featured on “Tabi Salad,” and seeing Mirai Shida enjoying the same meal made us happy. It’s clearly an Accommodation with a long history. It was perfect timing to see even your special rooms on TV, and I’m glad we chose you. As this is an older building, we noticed that some doors were heavy and that the futon bedding felt thin; however, areas such as the toilets have been renovated, so overall we had a comfortable stay. We would love to visit again during crab season. My mother was truly delighted, and it became a wonderful family memory. Thank you very much.

    Delicious Kaga Cuisine

    I was able to truly relax. I liked that I could choose a colorful yukata in the lobby, and that a separate yukata for sleeping was also provided—this felt like a great service. It was also nice to be able to choose the amenities. Above all, the meals were excellent. Kaga vegetables and local specialties were not only delicious but also beautifully presented. One small disappointment was that the lobby lounge was also used as a dining area, and the food smell lingered for a long time, which took away from enjoying coffee in the lounge. Taking an early-morning walk through the quaint Onsen town in the borrowed geta sandals also became a wonderful memory.

    Relax and unwind to the soothing sound of a babbling stream!

    Yamanaka Onsen in the Kaga Onsen area. I was able to relax both body and mind while listening to the gentle murmur of the mountain stream. The Onsen was spacious and relaxing, and the water felt soft and silky—very soothing. All of the staff were wonderful, and I was especially comforted by the warm hospitality of an older woman who took care of our meals. Every dish was delicious, and we enjoyed it with local sake.

    Six of us stayed wit...

    Six of us stayed with breakfast only while attending a relative’s funeral in Daishoji. We were completely satisfied the first time we stayed last year, so we chose to return. The semi-open-air bath and the newly built large sauna were excellent. We chose a Room in the older wing, but the toilet had been renovated, and it was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The bath amenities were also high quality, including a Dyson hair dryer and a premium shower head. We were very satisfied with breakfast as well and finished everything.

    Family of three

    A Japanese-style room by the river. I slept on a futon. Large public bath Showers: ReFa Hair dryers: Dyson Lockable individual lockers The bath area was thoroughly cleaned and very hygienic. Meals Both breakfast and dinner featured delicious white rice. Each serving is cooked in a small pot right in front of you. The portions were generous, and everything was delicious—I was very satisfied. The breakfast pudding was a delightful treat. Thank you very much.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    My best friend and I stayed for one night. The Japanese-style room was almost too spacious for just the two of us. The Onsen was wonderful as well, and the green mountains seen from the open-air bath were beautiful. The front desk staff were very pleasant, and it made me happy that they waved to us as we headed to the free Shuttle Service bus on our way home. My only regret is that we didn’t make it in time to try matcha tea and sweets at the riverside dining platform nearby. Since it was a weekday, we were able to stay at a great price. My friend and I agreed that we were more than satisfied for this price. Keep up the good work. Thank you very much.

    A culturally rich accommodation

    During the season of fresh greenery, I felt truly refreshed by a soothing stay while listening to the gentle murmur of the river. The food and drinks were exceptionally well crafted, and I could sense the genuine dedication behind them. If the service staff could further improve in quality to match, it would be even better. The building seems to have been renovated from an older structure, with a sense of age and solid grandeur, and it feels like it was built in a location chosen during more prosperous times. The open-air bath was wonderful. It would be even nicer if towels were provided at the Onsen, and if it were free-flowing natural spring water, I imagine the price would be about double.

    In Search of Japan Sea Crab!

    This was my first stay here, and it was truly the best Accommodation in every way. I stay at an Onsen somewhere almost every week. I’ve traveled everywhere from Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu, and this Accommodation scores 120 points!! The service was outstanding, and I felt comfortable throughout my entire stay. This time I stayed in a Room with a private Onsen and sauna; there was also a separate bedroom, and even a high-end massage chair in the Room. You can adjust the cold bath temperature to your liking, and both Onsen baths are spacious! The sauna is large enough for more than four adults, you can do löyly, and it can be heated to over 100°C. I stayed in all night (lol). There was an extension cord in the Room, a TV that can stream Netflix, bathrobes—perfect! Plus unlimited drinks: alcohol, soft drinks, even canned beer! And you can take them back to your Room—so generous. The crab I’d been looking forward to was delicious as well, the price was reasonable, and I will definitely come back. It was surprisingly convenient—only about two hours by train from Osaka. I also took a walk to Ayatori Bridge near the Accommodation. Thank you for such a wonderful place that makes me want to stay another night. I’ll be back!

    It was wonderful.

    My daughter and her friend stayed here on their trip. They really liked it and were very happy. As it was a trip for two women, I was a bit worried, but the Accommodation staff were very kind and helpful. The Room and the Onsen were clean, and they had a very comfortable stay. The meals were plentiful, and everything was delicious. They said they would like to stay again. If I have the chance, I would like to stay here as well. Thank you very much.

    Excellent

    The Hotel is in a great location, and you can enjoy beautiful views of Kakusenkei Gorge from the Room and the Hotel lobby. All Facilities have been renovated and were very comfortable to use. In particular, the large public bath Facility has a multi-level design, so my child (around 5 years old) could bathe safely. The Hotel staff were extremely helpful, especially the dining service staff; on that day, the service provided by a woman with short hair was outstanding. Thank you very much. There are English-speaking staff at the Hotel, so even as a foreign guest I was able to communicate smoothly. It is close to Yamanaka Onsen Old Street; I previously visited Yamashiro Onsen, but this area is more beautiful and well worth exploring on foot. Overall, I recommend this Hotel—I would like to visit again.

    Onsen

    We really appreciated the thoughtful attention to detail throughout. They were also very considerate in accommodating our various dietary needs. The toilet was clean and flushed well, and even the toilet paper was of good quality.

    I was satisfied!

    Renovated and thoroughly cleaned, the welcoming attitude of the staff was evident. The Onsen was refreshing, the bed was lovely, there was a TV in the bedroom, and the smiles and conversations with the staff were heartwarming.

    It was an accommodation with exceptional hospitality.

    This will be my 3rd or 4th stay. Here are the highlights: 1. Convenient parking location 2. Delicious dinner, and breakfast with a unique flavor depending on personal taste 3. The private onsen in the room is spacious and relaxing 4. Great view of the river from the bath 5. In-room dining feels luxurious and allows for a leisurely experience 6. The staff's subtle attentiveness is commendable 7. While competition in Kaga Onsen is intense, Yamanaka Onsen offers beautiful mountain and river scenery 8. With more well-mannered international guests visiting, I hope reservations remain accessible 9. Budget constraints make it difficult to visit frequently, which is unfortunate

    Savor the Delicacy of Kobako Crab

    The Room we stayed in was renovated in 2023, so it was very clean and pleasant. For meals, we chose a Plan that included Kobako Crab and Kano Crab, which I had wanted to try for a long time. The meal exceeded our expectations with its delicious content and the beauty of the tableware, leaving my entire family completely satisfied. The only concern was that the entrance from the dressing area to the bath in the large public bath was hard to find. Several people, including myself, made mistakes there. Improving this would make it even better.

    It was a satisfying Onsen!

    The service and food were excellent! We enjoyed Nodoguro fish for both breakfast and dinner, and the portions were generous. They carefully accommodated allergies, so we felt safe using their services. The baths, including the open-air bath and indoor bath, were wonderful. The bath amenities were well-stocked. The Dyson hairdryer provided dried our hair quickly, which was very convenient. We also appreciated the free ice cream after bathing. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay at the Ryokan. Thank you!

    Excellent hospitality

    The hospitality was exceptional. It's rare to find a Ryokan where everyone, from the shuttle service staff to the front desk, servers, and room cleaning staff, is so kind and pleasant. The Onsen overlooking the mountain stream was amazing, and the dishes made with Kaga vegetables were delicious. It was my first time visiting Ishikawa, and I didn't know it was such a wonderful place. I would love to return with my daughter.

    Natural hot spring private bath in the Room, large public bath, and in-room massage chair. Relax and warm up, then enjoy delicious meals in the spacious open-ceiling dining area. Fully rejuvenated!

    The kindness of the front desk staff

    At Tawara-ya in Ishikawa, I enjoyed rare and delicious cuisine. The most impressive dishes were the steamed grilled Nodoguro and Chawanmushi with seaweed sauce. The Nodoguro was tender and flavorful, with its taste enhanced through steaming. It was delightful to adjust the flavor with soy sauce, lemon, or salt as preferred. Additionally, it was my first time trying Chawanmushi topped with seaweed sauce, and the combination was exquisite. The aroma of the sea blended perfectly with the gentle flavor of Chawanmushi, creating a refined dish. I was thoroughly satisfied with these unique dishes that are hard to find elsewhere. Thank you for the wonderful meal! On our stay day, we went to the beach and planned to visit Shibamasa Pool the next day. When I asked for hangers to dry swimsuits after using a coin laundry, a staff member at reception kindly offered to bring them directly to our room with a smile. During our departure as well, they waved until our car disappeared from sight—truly showcasing this Ryokan's exceptional hospitality!

    Private rooms are excellent.

    The private Room has been newly renovated, offering an excellent space. The lounge was also great, providing a very pleasant time. The meals were slightly on the salty side and seemed to include many soup dishes. If promoting rice cooked in a traditional stove, other eel rice dishes might not be necessary. The food rating is 3; there wasn’t much surprise. I’d like to try private dining in the Room next time to see how it is. The public bath remained unchanged from before; I’d rate it 2. While the water quality was good, I only used it once and preferred the Room bath afterward. Spending most of my time in private spaces was satisfying overall. Lastly, the pudding was delicious!

    A well-known Ryokan in Yamanaka Onsen. While the building feels a bit dated, the rooms are clean, and the spacious lobby and friendly staff made for a comfortable stay. The large public bath was not crowded, allowing for a relaxing soak. The complimentary ice cream in the changing room was a nice touch. Located away from noisy tourist spots, it’s recommended for those seeking a quiet Onsen retreat. Dinner featured highlights such as delicious sashimi, roast beef, and flavorful dishes with dashi-based sauces. However, some of the smaller dishes were average. Depending on the season or meal plan chosen, it would be great to see more standout items among these plates. Breakfast was traditional Japanese cuisine with steamed vegetables and small dried fish as main items but felt underwhelming compared to expectations from photos seen beforehand. Accompaniments like pickles helped slightly but overall left much to be desired; something simpler yet hearty like one large grilled fish with rice and miso soup might have been preferable instead.

    The food is delicious.

    The building is not exactly new, and honestly, upon arrival at the accommodation, I initially thought, "Did I make a mistake?" However, the quality of the bath and the delicious food left me very satisfied. For dinner, I enjoyed some alcohol, and as the meal progressed, the pace of serving slowed down thoughtfully. It was clear they were timing it perfectly for us. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy my drinks even more. It may not satisfy those seeking a luxurious ryokan experience, but for those who want to relax and enjoy onsen and good food at their own pace, this ryokan is highly recommended.

    I had a relaxing time.

    Close to the city center and with good reviews, I decided to stay here for the first time. The meals were very delicious, and the onsen was excellent. The room was a renovated one and very comfortable. Yamanaka Onsen is a quiet onsen town.

    The building is old, but the toilets and baths have been properly renovated, and the Dyson hairdryer and shower made for a very comfortable stay. There were thoughtful touches such as cute bags for moving from the room, a heater set up in front of the cold elevator, and lap blankets provided during meals. The Onsen was also very pleasant. Thank you!
