    The bath is wonderful.

We stayed here as a family of four. The baths are simply outstanding. There are so many different baths that, unless you plan carefully, you won’t be able to try them all in just one night and two days—and every one of them is enjoyable. Above all, the “Shirozaru-no-Yu,” designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, is exceptionally wonderful! If you love Onsen, I think it’s something you should experience at least once. The age of the building can’t really be helped, but since it’s such a great Accommodation, I feel they could put a bit more effort into cleaning. Even so, the baths were truly exceptional.

    A Wonderful Onsen Experience

I stood in a natural Onsen that bubbles up directly from the bottom; it is said to be 125 cm deep. I also enjoyed a variety of baths, including an open-air bath and an Onsen right in front of a waterfall.

    Visit Fujimi Ryokan

This was our first stay as a couple. We warmed up in the Onsen and enjoyed the delicious meals. The staff were kind, and the Accommodation Fee was reasonable, so we were very satisfied. We would love to visit again.

    From Morioka to Hanamaki Onsen

The day before, we toured Morioka, and the next day we headed to Namari Onsen. We booked a therapeutic stay Plan, and the Room truly had a nostalgic Showa-era vibe. It’s a bit less convenient compared with modern living, but if you want to fully enjoy the Onsen, I recommend it. It was a cold March holiday weekend and it even snowed the day before, but the Room was well equipped with a kotatsu and heating. In hindsight, it might have been better to leave the heater on overnight (it gets cold at night). The floor futon was thin, so an extra one would have been nice. We enjoyed our meal at a relaxed pace in the Room. The added wagyu beef portion was generous and delicious, and we were happy we could also drink the alcohol we brought. The main bath, Shirozaru-no-Yu, is usually mixed-gender, but it became women-only during certain hours. The other baths also switch by time slot as well, which felt a bit busy, but overall we really enjoyed our stay.

An Accommodation That Makes Winter More Enjoyable

This is an Accommodation I’d been curious about for a long time and had always wanted to visit. I stayed this January, and I was truly satisfied in every way. Since the building is an Important Cultural Property, being able to stay in the main building allowed me to fully experience its early architecture and the classic atmosphere of a traditional Ryokan, which was deeply moving. The baths were also outstanding. It’s mixed-gender, but I especially loved that the tub is quite deep. The open-air bath while looking out at the snowy scenery was exceptional, and I could truly enjoy an extraordinary escape from everyday life. There’s even a sauna—an irresistible setup for Onsen lovers. The food was delicious, and all of the staff were kind, attentive, and welcoming, so I felt comfortable throughout my stay. It’s an amazing Accommodation that genuinely made me feel it’s worth coming to Tohoku just to enjoy an Onsen while watching the snow. I would absolutely love to stay again.

    The long-awaited Namari Onsen

I had been curious about Namari Onsen for a long time after seeing posters at the station, and finally got to visit. This time I stayed for one night. In addition to the famous Shirozaru-no-Yu (mixed bathing), there were plenty of other Onsen baths as well. I enjoyed all the baths except the private ones, and even at most there were only about 3–4 people, so it never felt crowded and I could bathe comfortably. There was a great variety—baths with a sense of history, an open-air bath, and one with a sauna—so I really enjoyed it. Dinner was served in the Room, and everything was delicious. After the meal, the staff quickly cleared everything away and prepared the futon for us—I’m truly grateful. It was a very satisfying stay. Even though it was a Saturday night, it felt reasonably priced, and with convenient access I strongly hope to visit again.

The Best Hot Spring in Tohoku

Traveling far with the Shinkansen and the Onsen Association's Shuttle Service, I was amazed by this remarkable hot spring. The water bubbling up from the bottom of the standing bath, with a depth reaching chest level for an adult male, creates an indescribable and mysterious floating sensation while your feet remain firmly on the ground. The water flows abundantly, warming you to your core without causing any discomfort. I bathed three times and would have loved to soak even more if time allowed. The meals are simple countryside dishes—not flashy but absolutely delicious and satisfying. This is truly Tohoku's finest Onsen that I would love to visit again!

The Toujibu, which might be classified as a simple accommodation, but I absolutely love it.

I have stayed in the Ryokan section for over 10 nights across thirteen months, but for solo use, the Touji section is truly the best. The slightly worn-out charm evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminding me of my childhood memories, which I deeply appreciate. Warming up in a kotatsu during cold days brings back such fond and comforting feelings. I sincerely hope this atmosphere remains unchanged. Also, I was genuinely impressed—didn't the Touji meal include hamo (pike conger)?

A nostalgic space that feels like saying "I'm home!"

It may be really old and worn-out, but it is truly a relaxing place. Accommodations where you can still stay for hot spring therapy are becoming quite rare, so we hope this can be preserved as it is.

    Would love to visit again.

The bath was excellent, with an elegance that photos cannot capture. The meals were satisfying in both quantity and quality. I’m glad I came with an empty stomach! The local bus from Hanamaki Station was convenient as long as the timing matched. On the way back, I took a taxi due to my schedule, and it comfortably brought me to the station. I’d love to visit again for skiing!

This accommodation has everything I need, so it's perfect for me.

The meals seemed a bit underwhelming at first, but when I ordered the shabu-shabu as an additional option, it exceeded my expectations with its delicious taste. Since I plan to visit regularly in the future, opting for extras is a great choice when I feel like indulging a little. Both Jusan-gatsu and the Ryokan section are wonderful, but personally, I enjoy coming to the Touji section repeatedly the most.

    Well-equipped bath facilities

We stayed here as my friend visited from another prefecture. The stay, including meals, was very pleasant. Thank you! It’s a Ryokan where you’d want to stay as long as possible. The bath had excellent water quality and was very relaxing. In the morning, we enjoyed the Shiraito no Yu bath and sauna, including the sauna, cold bath, and outdoor air bath. Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit Shirozaru no Yu due to timing issues, which was disappointing. It would be great if Shirozaru no Yu could extend its morning hours by 30 minutes. As expected of one of Japan's Top 100 New Hot Springs—highly recommended!

No matter how many times you visit, the bath here is always exceptional.

Is this my 7th or 8th stay? The bath is, of course, amazing, but for me, the highlight is the comfortable old room and the perfectly sufficient meals. Above all, it's easy to make a reservation and the price is very reasonable (or rather incredibly cheap). I look forward to staying again.

It was my first solo stay at an Onsen Ryokan!

I was a bit anxious about staying at the Ryokan alone, but I was able to enjoy my meals in the room, and the staff were kind and attentive. I fully enjoyed the Onsen and had a relaxing stay. From the room's window, I could see a nearby river and a small waterfall, and the soothing sound of the flowing water was truly healing. The Onsen was absolutely wonderful. I would love to visit again with friends next time. Thank you very much.

Fujisan Ryokan: Exceptional Hospitality That Outshines Any Disruption

Although it was not the responsibility of Fujisan Ryokan, there were instances where stink bugs entered the room. The staff made every effort to ensure guests were not inconvenienced. I understand that climate change is a factor, and this is likely an issue affecting accommodations across Japan. Despite this, the Onsen was wonderful, especially the "Shirouma no Yu," which had a unique atmosphere and gave me a sense of experiencing the historic Namari Onsen. It was truly relaxing. I believe this is a precious Onsen that everyone should visit at least once. For dinner, I requested a sukiyaki meal. Although I am familiar with sukiyaki, the Iwate beef prepared for the dish was incredibly delicious and satisfying. While it is far from Osaka and not easy to visit, I hope to enjoy it again in a different season.

    Onsen is the best!

The Onsen is excellent, especially the Shirozaru no Yu, where medicinal hot water springs directly. There are also four other baths that can be enjoyed with gender rotation. The meals use simple ingredients but are deliciously prepared with careful seasoning and cooking. While the exterior has a retro charm, the interior has been renovated for modern comfort. The only drawback is the inconvenient access from the metropolitan area. If you have plans in Iwate Prefecture, this is a must-visit spot!

    Excellent stay!

Excellent stay! I enjoyed the baths, especially Shirazaru no Yu, which I used four times during my stay. Katsura no Yu was a bit too hot for me, but still enjoyable. The meals were all delicious and very satisfying. Winter may be challenging with the snow, but I look forward to visiting again next year in spring to experience a different season.

    An accommodation for escaping reality.

The most intense accommodation I have ever stayed at. The difference between the Ryokan section and the Touji section was astonishing! The guest rooms in the Touji section were not cleaned at all, and the futons were terrible. Once was enough for this accommodation.

The Shirazaru Hot Spring is amazing!

Second visit to Onsen at Fujisan Ryokan. Last time, I stayed in the Ryokan section with a friend, but this time I stayed alone in the Touji section. The accommodation overall is aging and has a slight musty smell, but it adds to its historical charm. I’m not a fan of air conditioning, but summer heat with just a fan can be tough—still, it’s part of the Touji experience. There’s a shared kitchen area with a refrigerator where I chilled my drinks. It’s not exactly spotless, but that depends on users' manners. Meals served on trays are delivered to your room; they’re simple yet sufficient for me. The white rice was delicious! Above all else, the Onsen is amazing! The 24-hour accessible Katsura no Yu and outdoor baths are fantastic. During women-only hours, I enjoyed Shirasaru no Yu—it was perfect! The free shuttle service is also much appreciated. While opinions may vary, I’d love to spend several days in the Touji section again someday!

    Satisfying hot water.

We stayed as a group of three on Friday. The room was clean and the toilet was comfortable, perhaps due to recent renovations. The Onsen temperature was high, and the outdoor bath was notably very hot. We thoroughly enjoyed the "Onsen." The food was extremely delicious, and everyone in our group was impressed. However, for elderly guests, the portion sizes were quite large, making it difficult to finish everything, which was a bit unfortunate. Additionally, many of the staff at the accommodation seemed young, giving an impression that new ideas are being introduced into its management. It seems like this place will continue to grow and develop further in the future—we have high expectations!

    A Unique Onsen Accommodation

I stayed here on the first day of my solo trip to Iwate. Usually, I travel with my wife, but this time it was a literary journey visiting places related to Kenji Miyazawa, Kotaro Takamura, and Takuboku Ishikawa, which my wife had no interest in. Hence, it became a solo trip. The accommodation "Namari no Yu" appears in Kenji Miyazawa's fairy tales and was a place I had always wanted to stay at. It is an old Showa-era accommodation with great charm. Many rooms are traditional Japanese-style without baths or sinks, which adds character. However, due to back pain and frequent nighttime trips to the restroom, I reserved a room with a bed and attached toilet/sink on the riverside—and it was absolutely the right choice for comfort. The baths truly embody an Onsen accommodation experience. The standing bath "Shirozaru no Yu" and riverside "Katsura no Yu" are full of charm—perfect examples of therapeutic hot spring baths that I loved. The open-air bath at Katsura no Yu by the river has two levels; the lower one is so close you could almost touch the river! However, its water was very hot—around 45 degrees Celsius—so I could only dip my feet. The meals were satisfying as well; I chose Umezen with all-you-can-drink options. The dining area is designed so even solo travelers like me can enjoy their meals without worrying about others around them—it felt very relaxing. The Hanamaki Minami Onsenkyo shuttle bus conveniently connects seven different Onsen spots in this area—it’s both efficient and comfortable. Even though this trip focused on literature-related sites, next time I'd love to visit again with my wife!

I've lost count of how many times...

During a visit to see cherry blossoms at Kitakami's scenic spots, I extended my trip to Hanamaki Onsenkyo. Nambu Onsen Fujisan Ryokan is one of my favorite ryokans, offering onsen you'll want to enjoy multiple times and delicious meals. This was probably my 7th visit to Fujisan Ryokan? Including stays in December, I've stayed over 10 nights... I think. Shiraito no Yu has been renovated and now includes a sauna! Both Shiraito no Yu and Gin no Yu have relatively high water temperatures. While it was fine for me, some guests found it too hot to enter comfortably. The mixed-gender Shirazaru no Yu offers women-only hours in the evening and morning, allowing for a relaxing experience. Shirazaru no Yu is a standing bath with deep waters; the clear alkaline spring water gushes up from the bottom of the tub, providing that silky smooth feeling unique to alkaline springs. Guests often seemed unsure how best to enter the bath and ended up sharing tips with each other! The onsen has an abundant water supply—even the shower uses onsen water! My dry skin became soft and smooth after bathing here! Since you can enjoy the onsen all night long, it's perfect for our nocturnal family—we even tried out the mixed-gender bath late at night! Although we couldn't alternate between baths with our little one because another guest joined us partway through... The outdoor bath at Katsura no Yu was also very pleasant~ If you prefer strong shower pressure, I recommend Gin no Yu instead as its showers are more powerful. For meals, we always choose the Umezen Plan—it’s delicious with plenty of volume as well. While rooms on the first floor are showing their age a bit now, there are newly renovated rooms available on the third floor—maybe I'll stay there next time. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

The Ryokan section in December is nice, but if traveling alone, I prefer the hot spring section the most.

Of course, the Onsen itself is wonderful (Shirouma no Yu is my best indoor bath). I actually like the worn-out look of the Room, and it makes me feel at ease, so I think I will continue to use the Toujibu for solo visits. It's truly a precious space that reminds me of my childhood feelings. Places like here, the Toujibu of Osawa Onsen, and Tsuru no Yu are buildings and spaces that I hope will remain forever.

I actually prefer that old-fashioned Room, so do I like it more than the Ryokan department, Jusan-gatsu?

The bath is top-class no matter where you stay (the room with an open-air bath in Jusan-gatsu is also wonderful). I really like the old-fashioned use of padlocks that can't even be locked properly in the Toujibu. I've stayed at Fujisan Ryokan about 5 or 6 times, including with family, but if I'm using it alone, I might like the Toujibu the best. The meals are modest, so I don't gain weight. I will use the Toujibu again next month.

The Shirazaru no Yu is amazing!

Fujisan Ryokan, famous for its excellent hot water, lived up to its reputation with a wonderful hot spring. Among them, "Shirasaru no Yu" has a depth of 125 cm, so you stand while bathing, and it was a very warming and pleasant hot spring. Since there is also a section for therapeutic stays, I thought that ideally, a long-term stay would be best. I reserved one of the few rooms with a toilet, so I was able to stay comfortably. It was truly great hot water!
