    There are stairs everywhere.

The building is historic and charming, but it has stairs everywhere, so it would be tough for anyone with weak legs or knees. In particular, the path to the open-air bath is outdoors, so when it rains there are puddles, and the outdoor sandals provided are hard to walk in—I felt scared going down. At meals (both dinner and breakfast), I wasn’t asked whether I wanted rice served from the rice tub, so I served myself. However, other guests were served by staff, and the inconsistency in service depending on the guest didn’t feel good. It may be relatively reasonable for Hakone, but considering it still isn’t cheap, having only one towel was inconvenient because you have to bring it with you to the bath. At this price level these days, it’s common to have towels available in the public bath or several towels placed in the Room, so this was disappointing. When I asked to borrow an extra towel, I was told there would be an additional charge, which also surprised me. I’ve stayed at many Ryokan before, but this was my first time being charged for an extra towel. The food was average. You can’t choose your dining time; everyone starts at once in a large hall. Even though there were several groups dining, it was so quiet that it felt oddly tense. Also—though it may be unavoidable—there was a large fly that landed on the dishes after we finished eating, which was unpleasant.

The Onsen (free-flowing from the source) is of exceptionally high quality.

This time, you kindly prepared a special riverside Room (Japanese-style), and I felt truly relaxed listening to the stream and being surrounded by forest. The Room also had an Onsen bath, which made my stay very comfortable. I was very satisfied with the charming atmosphere—the view of the stream from the open-air bath, the forest, and the evening cicadas... The quality of the Onsen was excellent as well, and I was extremely satisfied. As the building is a designated Tangible Cultural Property, it felt like stepping back into the Taisho era. Although it is old, it is kept very clean, and I had a pleasant stay. Thank you very much.

    It was a historic building.

It is a very historic building, and the lack of Wi‑Fi made it a great place to unplug and detox. However, first-time guests may be surprised that there is no elevator or vending machines. My mother, who traveled with me, almost slipped in places such as the open-air bath area, so there may be room for improvement from an accessibility perspective.

Experience history and charm at our unique accommodation.

A charming accommodation with a historical ambiance, worth staying for the atmosphere alone. The sound of the river from the window was very soothing. The room was clean, and the futon was comfortable. However, there were a few concerns. The room I stayed in was close to the front desk but had many steps and was far from the bath, which might not be ideal for those with mobility issues. The hostess is professional, but as many guests were international visitors, it seemed that staff were busy attending to them. Since I stayed on a weekday, the baths were not crowded, and I could use a private bath simply by returning a tag without any trouble. However, there was no explanation about how far the open-air bath was; going there alone at night might have been scary. Additionally, for accommodations in this price range, services like welcome drinks, coffee after breakfast, or water dispensers after bathing would enhance satisfaction further. This is an excellent accommodation where you can fully enjoy its historical charm. However, those seeking meticulous service or concerned about mobility should check these aspects before completing their reservation.

I want to stay here again.

The staff were very kind and provided heartfelt service. The accommodation along the mountain stream was very comfortable, and the Taisho-era architecture and furnishings were wonderful. I would definitely like to stay here again.

Thank you for the wonderful time!

We stayed for one night over the weekend as a family. This historic Ryokan feels like a museum, with stunning fusuma paintings. The Facility is meticulously maintained, and modern amenities such as updated restrooms and air conditioning made our stay very comfortable. The staff was kind, and the elaborate and delicious kaiseki cuisine delighted our entire family. Every corner of this place is photogenic, making it perfect for photography enthusiasts! While there are some stairs to navigate, the open-air bath was also wonderful! We had a great vacation here and would love to come back again.

    On your birthday,

We stayed as a commemoration for a 5-year-old's birthday. Our whole family loves Onsen and enjoys looking at architecture, so we had a great time! The family bath did not require an additional fee for a reservation, so we were able to use it leisurely when it happened to be available. Since meals were served in the Room, it seemed okay even if the child was a bit noisy. Also, the children's plate was very hearty! It was delicious. Thank you for taking care of us during our one-night stay.

    It was wonderful and moving!

The onsen with free-flowing hot spring water was excellent. The open-air bath, in particular, had a great view and made me want to enter it multiple times. The indoor rock bath was also wonderful, and I was very satisfied with the elegant atmosphere of the room. The food was also excellent, so I definitely want to stay again.

The building and Onsen are wonderful, but the service is disappointing.

Stayed in a corner room on the second floor. The room, large public bath, and open-air bath were wonderful, but the service was disappointing. I don't mind carrying my luggage upon arrival, but I thought it was inappropriate to have guests carry their luggage while being slowly guided around the property. Meals were brought out one after another without considering the pace of the diners. They brought the appetizer, hors d'oeuvre, sashimi, and vinegared dish all at once at the beginning, and continued to bring dishes one after another, so I asked them to bring them more slowly, but they didn't listen. Also, although this is not a big issue, the menu and the actual dishes were quite different, and I laughed at how luxury ingredients like caviar and shark fin were all replaced with cheaper ones. Luxury ingredients are not necessary at an onsen ryokan, and since the menu is not shown in advance, I thought it would be better not to write it. There was a bar in the property that seemed to have a nice atmosphere, but it was also not open, which was disappointing (it was a busy period during the three-day weekend in November...). I think it would be a good stay if the service is improved.

    It was wonderful.

Due to the rain, we checked in early (around 2 PM). The room is next to the river, and because of the rain, the sound of the river is quite loud, but it's nice in its own way. There's a bridge nearby where cars pass, and thanks to the river sound, you can barely hear the cars. Another favorite point is at night, after the lights are off, every time a car passes, the headlights hit the trees outside the room, casting beautiful shadows on the shoji screen for a moment, creating a very picturesque scene. The interior of the main building of the Ryokan was very lovely and interesting. There are stairs everywhere, making it feel like a maze, and at first, it seemed like I might get lost. But it felt like a little exploration, and every time I turned a corner, there was new interior decor, which was fun. The staff was very kind and attentive, and the tea they served was delicious. When I mentioned that the shower temperature in the room was strange, they kindly guided me to all the Onsen in the Ryokan and introduced them. Thanks to that, I enjoyed almost all the Onsen, and it felt great. We had our meals in the room, and everything was delicious. Especially the rice, cooked with spring water, was excellent. The bus stop is right next to the Ryokan, and you can reach it with a short walk, which is very convenient. Tounosawa Station is relatively close, but I heard it's mostly stairs, so I wouldn't recommend it for those carrying luggage. If I have the chance, I definitely want to visit again.

    The meals are very delicious.

The dinner was lightly seasoned and very delicious. It wasn't flashy, but everything was very tasty with a light flavor. The breakfast was also a typical Japanese menu, and I was very satisfied. Thank you very much.
