    It must have been available by chance.

    I stayed here solo on a sweltering day right after the Obon holidays. I thought the booking site showed “1 room left,” but when I checked in, I was told that only a couple and I were staying that night—so I practically had the dining room and the Onsen to myself. The bath is wonderful, and the water is excellent. If I had to nitpick, the washing area is a bit basic, so if it were fully booked it might feel slightly inconvenient—but it also seems petty to complain about that at a truly authentic Onsen Accommodation. The meals are…delicious. They’re clearly made with care, yet not overly pretentious, which is exactly what makes them good. Everything is seasoned in an easy-to-understand way—just as you’d hope—and tastes great. There’s also plenty of variety, so you never get bored. I live in one of The whole country’s top regions for seafood, but even so, the dried overnight horse mackerel at breakfast was so good it made me groan with pleasure. It’s not like an auberge that prides itself on gourmet cuisine, but every dish was something I could wholeheartedly agree with—and happily finish in no time. Perched on higher ground, it offers a distinctive view as well. A shop about a five-minute walk away sells their famous Onsen-steamed boiled eggs and pudding—both excellent. Of course you want to stay at all kinds of places around Japan if you can, but during my stay I found myself thinking this is an Accommodation I’d like to return to—with my partner next time.

    Your First Myoban Onsen

    My first time at Myoban Onsen. I’m excited to be able to stay at Okamotoya, which is highly rated in guidebooks. I was very satisfied with the milky-blue water. The Room was just the right size for one person and had a great view, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The dessert pudding and the orange juice at breakfast were especially appreciated since I don’t drink alcohol. Since this is a Multiple Night Stay, it really helped that they provided extra yukata and towels. Just one thing: at dinner on the first day, the rice and soup were a bit lukewarm (it was fine on the second day). Also, perhaps due to the season, the seating was quite close to other guests during meals, which made it a little hard to eat comfortably. Still, I’m so satisfied that I’d definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    The cloudy white in-...

    The cloudy white in-room Onsen bath becomes even more intensely white when stirred, as the mineral deposits swirl up. I expected a strong sulfur spring, but it wasn’t overpowering at all, and I enjoyed soaking many times. The milky-blue open-air bath was also wonderful, and the meals were absolutely delicious. Next time, I’d like to stay in a Japanese-style Room with a private Onsen. Just one point: I asked in advance whether early check-in and late check-out were possible and was told they were not. However, the FAQ on your official website states: “We can accommodate this depending on the cleaning status and occupancy on the day. The fee is 1,100 yen per hour (per person / tax included).” Please kindly confirm.

    A Long-Established Ryokan with Wonderful Hospitality

    The building has a wonderful sense of history, and while preserving its classic charm, the warm hospitality and thorough cleanliness made our stay very comfortable. The Onsen was, needless to say, outstanding, and my husband—who loves Onsen—was truly delighted. I’m so glad we chose to stay here for his birthday trip. Thank you very much.

    My solo trip to Bepp...

    My solo trip to Beppu Onsen was a great choice with this Accommodation. It’s a traditional, old-style place where the stairs creak, but the Room has been renovated, and I especially loved the spacious, spotless vanity area. The furnishings are tasteful, and there’s none of that unpleasant “old” feeling at all. I was soothed by the view, enjoyed delicious meals, and soaked in the milky-blue Onsen again and again. The amenities in the large public bath were well stocked, and even small details—like frequently refreshing the hot water in the Room kettle—were thoughtfully taken care of. I would definitely recommend it to anyone I know visiting Beppu.

    The blue Onsen was a wonderful “hell.”

    First time in Beppu, and we stayed at Myoban Onsen on the third day. We chose this well-reviewed Accommodation, and it turned out to be exactly the right decision. We made a Reservation for the newly renovated Room “Mutsuki.” The Japanese-modern space wasn’t overly large, but it was more than enough for one night. And just as rumored, our favorite was the milky-blue public bath! The silky water felt amazing. There were quite a few leaves floating in the open-air bath, but we’ll chalk that up to rustic charm. The meals were also excellent—hell-steamed dishes, Oita wagyu shabu-shabu, and a full taste of both sea and mountain specialties. We were very satisfied, especially with the dessert pudding—and we even received a souvenir thanks to our Diamond member benefit. Because of the location there are many stairs and steps, so it may be difficult for guests with mobility issues, but it was a great choice of Accommodation to end our hell tour.

    Thank you for taking care of us on our trip to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We chose this Accommodation with a focus on the Onsen, and the milky-blue Onsen exceeded our expectations—mystical in the evening amid the mist, and beautifully different in the morning with a milky pale-blue hue. It left our skin feeling moisturized and warmed us through to the core. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and we especially enjoyed the “Jigoku-mushi” steamed pudding for dessert. The service was courteous, allowing us to relax and enjoy a comfortable stay. We also received an anniversary gift for our 30th wedding anniversary; we were truly moved by the thoughtful item and message, and will cherish it. If we have another chance to visit Beppu Onsen, we would love to stay here again. Thank you in advance, and we look forward to seeing you then.

    I stayed here with my elementary-school-aged son on a trip for just the two of us. From the entrance, it had the charm of a good old Ryokan (in the best way), and we were able to relax and unwind. The building is not new, but the Room, hallways, and other areas were kept impeccably clean. The staff were also very kind to both of us throughout our stay. We ended up checking in around 6:00 p.m., but thank you for going out of your way to bring us the pudding included as an IKYU.com perk. When I mentioned that we would be leaving in a hurry the next morning, you kindly accommodated our breakfast time as well, which allowed us to fully enjoy a delicious meal. The food felt carefully prepared using local dishes and seasonal ingredients. Both the amber hot pot at dinner and the dango soup at breakfast had wonderfully rich broth. They paired perfectly with the white rice, and my son loved them too. (Our breakfast rice pot was empty… and we thoroughly enjoyed the pudding after dinner as well.) I was especially looking forward to the baths, and the open-air bath was outstanding. Perhaps our timing was lucky, but it felt almost like having it privately reserved, so we could truly relax. It’s a sulfur spring, but the smell wasn’t too strong. The open-air bath temperature was slightly on the cooler side (which actually helped since my son still isn’t comfortable with very hot water), so we could soak slowly for longer. We made some special requests due to our schedule this time, but it’s an Accommodation where I’d love to stay longer next time. Next time, I hope to book a Room with an indoor bath and spend an unhurried stay. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed in a special Room, and the view was wonderful. We were delighted by the traditional style of the Room. The baths were also great—both the open-air bath with a strong sulfur scent and the in-Room bath. We could soak at our leisure, leaving our skin smooth and refreshed, and our fatigue melted away.

    The bath is excellent.

    This was my first time visiting Myoban Onsen, and the quality of the onsen water is simply outstanding. You can feel the onsen minerals soaking into your body. The accommodation has a charming atmosphere, and each dish is carefully prepared and delicious. The attentive service is also very noticeable. This is an onsen I would love to visit again.

    The Onsen, cuisine, ...

    The Onsen, cuisine, service, interior design, and selection of items were all thoughtfully considered and refined. Additionally, the view from the room was exceptional due to favorable weather, offering stunning sights of the sunset, night view, and sunrise that we couldn't take our eyes off. It was an outstanding accommodation that exceeded expectations in every way.

    Safety Information (Especially Regarding Access to the Open-Air Bath)

    As a high-class traditional ryokan, I was initially concerned about the level of service, but the meals were delicious, the hot spring quality was excellent, and the staff's hospitality was outstanding. However, as a luxury accommodation, there were several areas in terms of facilities that could be improved. There was no remote control for turning room lights on and off. The mattress was too soft, making it uncomfortable to sleep. While the steep slope to the open-air bath is understandable, there is only a hard-to-grip handrail on the left side, so I had to descend carefully to avoid falling. It would be better if easy-to-grip handrails were installed on both sides.

    It was great.

    It was my first time staying at this accommodation, recommended by a friend. The exterior looked a bit old, but the interior was beautifully designed and didn’t feel outdated at all. The milky blue bath was amazing! The meals were also very delicious. The elderly gentleman who guided our car and the Chinese (?) lady who assisted us during our stay were very kind. Thank you so much! However, the man at check-out was quite unfriendly and seemed displeased... That part was disappointing.

    Healing Accommodation

    This was our first trip to Kyushu with my elderly mother, and we stayed at this accommodation in Beppu Onsen. Before our stay, the staff kindly contacted us regarding details such as the presence of stairs and my mother's dietary preferences. They prepared a seafood-based meal for my mother, who cannot eat meat, which deeply touched us with their thoughtfulness. The timing of the service was impeccable, and every dish was exceptional. The facility may be somewhat old, but it is well-maintained and very clean, providing a comfortable atmosphere. High-quality amenities were provided as well. The onsen was outstanding as expected—quiet and relaxing with a gentle sulfur aroma that soothed both body and mind. Choosing this accommodation turned out to be an excellent decision. My mother even mentioned she didn’t want to leave because of how comfortable it was; she truly enjoyed her stay here thanks to the attentive staff members. Thank you so much! We would love to return again in the future!

    The stay would be perfect if the shower water pressure were better.

    The Myoban Onsen was exceptional. There are two indoor baths and one open-air bath, but perhaps because it was March, the open-air bath felt slightly lukewarm. The water quality and atmosphere were excellent; however, the water pressure and flow for the showers and hot water were low, which can be challenging for women with long hair. The men's bath also had weak water pressure. Due to this shower issue, I would rate the baths 5 stars but give the facility a 3-star rating. The meals were elegant and delicious. All staff members were cheerful and kind, providing impeccable service.

    Exceptional hospitality!

    A long-awaited stay at an accommodation with a milky blue open-air bath. To my surprise, there was now a room with a private open-air hot spring directly sourced from the spring. I visit Beppu every year, but this time I was truly satisfied soaking in that indescribable colored water. The room's bath was hot, but I used it multiple times. The shower flow was slightly affected by the mineral content, but that's just proof of its incredible therapeutic properties. The smell is strong at first, but you quickly get used to it and don't mind at all. It’s such rejuvenating water that washes away fatigue completely! The meals were made with only high-quality ingredients, and breakfast included orange juice and coffee—such thoughtful touches! As part of the Diamond benefits, I even received delicious pudding as a souvenir—everything felt so luxurious. Every month when I stay at various accommodations and think about what could be improved, Okamotoya seems to have already perfected everything! Their hospitality is outstanding!

    Wonderful Onsen, Refined Accommodation

    The Onsen, the view from the Room and other parts of the Accommodation, as well as the staff, were all excellent. The quality of the Onsen was outstanding, allowing for a quiet and relaxing soak. The view from the Room was also magnificent. The meals were delicious. The Accommodation is an old-fashioned building with charm, meticulously cleaned to provide a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Reading the magazines provided was also enjoyable. However, during meals, I noticed constant clattering sounds from placing or clearing dishes and cutlery, which was slightly distracting. Considering how clean and attentive the staff are in their service, I am hopeful this can be improved soon. It was a wonderful Onsen Accommodation where you can truly experience Beppu at its best.

    Wonderful Property

    The Onsen has a beautiful color and the open-air bath is wonderful. Despite the likelihood of insects or fallen leaves, it was always clean, perhaps due to frequent cleaning, as I entered three times. The building is old but well-maintained and had a nice atmosphere. The food was also excellent and I was very satisfied. Thank you for your hospitality.

    It was a wonderful Stays.

    It was a trip with four women. First, we were thrilled by the lounge at the entrance, filled with the scent of incense and an outstanding atmosphere. The room was impeccably clean, fresh, and serene, with modern fabrics and sofas perfectly matching the retro ambiance, making our stay comfortable. From the window, we could see Beppu city and the sea beyond the arch of the large highway bridge, and this view is still etched in my mind. The milky blue onsen was very pleasant, and from the open-air bath at night, we could see the moon and Orion, which was very picturesque. The meals were also very delicious. The tableware used was very lovely! The amenities were of high quality, and we felt the thoughtfulness. It is a property I would definitely like to visit again! (However, it was unfortunate that the Wi-Fi did not reach the bedroom. For that reason alone, I rated it a 4.)

    The open-air bath was amazing! I'm glad the weather was nice!

    At Beppu Onsen, enjoy the natural hot spring water without any added water. The meals are also highly rated, so expectations are high. Check-in and staff service were polite and excellent. Guidance to the Room was smooth. I asked a few questions, and they were answered courteously. The Room, while showing its age, was well-cleaned and satisfactory. Due to the Room's layout, the toilet is located in the entryway, requiring a change into slippers and then into toilet slippers, which was a bit inconvenient. It might be nice to have a wooden mat or something to make it easier to access the toilet directly. However, since the entryway is clean, it might feel wasteful to place a mat there. Perhaps placing a mat after guests check in could be a solution (though it might be troublesome...). The Room has a refrigerator, which is convenient, but since there are no convenience stores nearby, it might be better to buy what you need beforehand. There are no convenience stores near the nearby bus stop either. I wish the Property's vending machine at least had beer available. As for the meals, they were excellent! The sashimi was particularly outstanding! The "Jigoku Mushi" pudding was also delicious. The relatively low salt content was very much appreciated! The tableware was also lovely. The dish for the steamed sea bream head was especially beautiful. The Onsen was simply amazing! The outdoor bath was slightly lukewarm, while the indoor bath was hotter. The outdoor bath, with its bluish milky-white water, was fantastic. From the Property's introduction page, I thought it was a pond, but it turned out to be the outdoor bath. It might be challenging to enjoy if the weather isn't clear. I think this is a great Property! I would love to visit again if I have the chance.
