    Family trip

    This time, my spouse and I traveled around Kumamoto by rental car with our two sons and stayed in Kurokawa Onsen. The atmosphere of the entire Onsen town was very calm—quiet, charming, and a wonderful place to relax at a leisurely pace. The quality of the Onsen water was excellent, and we felt deeply relaxed after bathing. The Ryokan staff were kind and attentive, and the Room was clean and comfortable. It was a very satisfying stay for our whole family and one of the most memorable highlights of our trip to Kumamoto. We highly recommend this Onsen destination for family trips as well.

    Unlimited Onsen enjoyment—no bath pass required!

    The Kurokawa Onsen stay I had been looking forward to exceeded my expectations. There are 13 baths in the Accommodation, and excluding the ones attached to Rooms, I tried 8 of the 11 and was very satisfied. The Facility was spotless and sparkling clean throughout. The food was delicious, and the service was attentive down to the smallest details, making for a very pleasant stay—I’d love to come again. One note: Guests can park in the Accommodation’s parking lot, but the road is narrow.

    We stayed in a detac...

    We stayed in a detached annex villa and were well taken care of with friendly service, including the Shuttle Service. The Room was spacious, and the Onsen was free-flowing from the source with an abundant supply of hot water—truly wonderful. The meals were delicious, made with fresh ingredients. It is a charming Accommodation with a great atmosphere.

    Located in the heart...

    Located in the heart of Kurokawa Onsen, it was the perfect distance for a leisurely stroll. The Yuakari lights were beautiful, and we also enjoyed the delicious amazake served at the kappa-sake hospitality event. Since we stayed in an annex, we requested Shuttle Service many times for my elderly mother, and each time you kindly assisted us. During the rides, we were able to hear many stories about Kurokawa Onsen, which made it a truly meaningful experience. Thank you very much!

    The Ideal Onsen Ryokan

    This is a wonderful Ryokan where you can enjoy a retro atmosphere. Although it is old, everything is kept very clean, and the service is excellent. In particular, the foreign female staff member who served us during our meal was outstanding. She greeted us with a constant smile, and we were able to enjoy our meal comfortably. The meals were beautifully presented, and everything was delicious. My left-handed son was especially impressed that all of his tableware at breakfast had been set for a left-handed person. We travel several times a year, but surprisingly few Ryokan offer such consideration for left-handed guests, so we truly felt their thoughtful hospitality. This is a Ryokan we would definitely like to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

    The Onsen is amazing.

    I’ve stayed at many Accommodations in Kurokawa Onsen, but the variety of Onsen baths and the spaciousness of the Room here were exceptional. It’s become one of the Onsens I definitely want to visit again. The water temperature was just right—not too hot or too lukewarm—so I could soak for a long time. It was during heavy snowfall in Kurokawa Onsen, and soaking in the open-air bath while watching birds fly by and snow fall from the trees created an amazing atmosphere. I will definitely come again! The Onsen-boiled eggs were also delicious.

    Thank you for a wonderful stay.

    A retro yet impeccably clean accommodation. From the entrance, it was full of charm, and the staff guided us with great care. Dinner was packed with the delights of Kumamoto, and every dish was deliciously enjoyable. The open-air onsen and breakfast the next morning were also wonderful, allowing us to spend a luxurious time. Due to snow, our return highway bus service was canceled, but the staff contacted several taxi companies to secure a car for us—we are truly grateful. Kurokawa Onsen became an unforgettable memory. Thank you very much!

    Excellent. Everything is of the best quality.

    We stayed for one night as a group of four friends. Despite having foreign guests with us, we received exceptionally warm hospitality. The Onsen had a quality and design unlike any I have experienced before, completely rejuvenating us. The dinner was also exquisite, with each dish carefully prepared and rich in flavor. We will definitely choose Ikoi Ryokan for our next visit. Thank you very much!

    I had a very relaxing stay!

    I had always wanted to visit Kurokawa Onsen. After enjoying the scenic views of Aso, I checked into "Ikoi Ryokan" with my elderly parents. There were onsen eggs sold at the entrance, and they were delicious. My brother ate three of them! Although I'm not familiar with the specifics of hot spring qualities, the water was smooth and slightly hot, which warmed me to the core. My parents also thoroughly enjoyed it. This accommodation offers various open-air baths where you can compare them, making it a fun experience. The hospitality from the staff was evident everywhere, making our stay very comfortable, and the meals were thoughtfully prepared as well. We also enjoyed strolling around town. It was a wonderful place and an excellent accommodation that made us very happy!

    Usually, people who take one bath a day end up taking four.

    Thank you for your hospitality. We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath in a separate building. Even someone who usually doesn't use baths much enjoyed it four times—it was such a great bath. It was better than the other large public baths. They mentioned wanting to visit again.

    A relaxing and rejuvenating accommodation

    The hot spring was truly wonderful. Relaxing and soothing, the exclusive bath for guests made me feel glad to have stayed here. I also enjoyed the standing bath and the open-air waterfall bath, which were both fun and refreshing. The staff, including international team members, provided attentive and kind hospitality that allowed me to unwind even more. The host at the front desk kindly gave advice on sightseeing for the next day, making my drive to Mount Aso enjoyable as well. The meals were delicious—every dish from appetizers to soup, broth, and breakfast showcased the chef's skill. Personally, I prefer lean steak cuts; hence I rated it four stars. However, for those who enjoy other types of meat cuts, it would likely be very satisfying. The building has a charming historical ambiance and is impeccably clean everywhere despite its age being noticeable in some areas—this is why I gave four stars here too; however, this is just a matter of personal preference. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    The long-awaited Kurokawa Onsen was amazing.

    It was a long-time dream finally realized. There were many indoor baths, and I wanted to try them all. Unfortunately, a flight delay caused a late check-in, which was regrettable. The meals were exceptional and delicious. The handmade simmered dishes had deep flavors, and each dish was carefully prepared with beautiful tableware. Although the portions were more than enough, I enjoyed the anticipation of each new dish being served. After watching "Project X" on TV, I wished I could have stayed longer to enjoy the outdoor baths as well. The open-air bath was truly amazing—soaking in the water while admiring fresh greenery, listening to birds chirping and the gentle sound of the river—it was perfect in every way: water quality, temperature, depth... everything exceeded expectations. I would love to visit again someday. Thank you very much!

    Gradually

    We stayed in a detached accommodation. It was possibly the last trip with my parents. Since my father loves onsen but has difficulty moving, I chose an accommodation where he could easily enjoy the onsen directly from the room. Although we had to walk to the dining area in the main building, shuttle service was provided for my parents who have mobility issues. The onsen in our room had a slightly higher temperature, but its sulfur aroma was soothing and allowed us to enjoy a luxurious time. This is highly recommended for those looking to spend relaxing moments with an onsen experience. As for meals, they featured mountain-inspired dishes with a wide variety of options that left us very full. The white rice was exceptionally delicious—I even had two servings! The staff at the accommodation were warm and welcoming, creating a calm and gentle atmosphere throughout our stay. Highly recommended!

    Satisfying Accommodation

    We stayed as a family and enjoyed a higher-grade accommodation. The meals were excellent, and since we mentioned it was a special occasion, we even received a card resembling an autograph board. The staff were very pleasant, and even without an onsen pass, the accommodation had many types of baths to enjoy separately for men and women. Personally, I was thrilled to find books by my favorite author in the room and devoured them eagerly—definitely a high point for me. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again. The town is just the right size for strolling around; we enjoyed sweets, bought souvenirs, and fell in love with the charm of Kurokawa Onsen all over again.

    I stayed on a weekda...

    I stayed on a weekday in September. The inn had a charming atmosphere, and the room was clean. The food was very delicious. There were many small baths inside the facility, making it a unique hot spring inn. The staff were pleasant, and I think it's a nice inn.
