A rustic Accommodation, but it has been renovated and is clean.
It was a very beautiful Accommodation… the Room, bath, toilet, and lounge had all been renovated. Enjoying a beer after the bath while looking out over the street from the veranda facing the Onsen town was amazing. The weather was cool, making this season perfect for a visit. We played in the river, but the water was colder than expected and we couldn’t soak in it. All of the staff were very kind and courteous, which impressed us. It’s a Ryokan we’d love to visit again.

The atmosphere is outstanding.
We stayed here as a couple during the Obon holidays. Even though it was the hottest time of midsummer, Tenkawa Village was wonderfully cool—a top summer retreat in Kansai where we could stay comfortable without using the Room air conditioner and without breaking a sweat. We had long admired the charm of Dorogawa Onsen and had wanted to stay there at least once, and choosing Hanaya Tokubei was absolutely the right decision. The whole town has a lovely atmosphere, but Tokubei stands out for its especially distinctive and tasteful building. Because there are few guest Rooms with private indoor baths in the area, we stayed in “Higashi no Tenku” with an indoor bath. The view is mostly of the courtyard, so if you are used to resort-style Onsen facilities it may not exceed expectations. Still, considering this is traditionally an Accommodation used by ascetics, we felt it was a true luxury and enjoyed it. The meals were delicious Japanese cuisine featuring plenty of local ingredients, with thoughtful touches throughout that kept our Multiple Night Stay from ever feeling repetitive. We were completely full but couldn’t bear to leave anything behind—and finished every last bite. Spending time on the veranda at dusk with a beer in hand while watching people pass by was simply wonderful. After sunset, strolling around the area in yukata is also great fun. Wherever you walk, the lantern lights feel magical, and Tokubei lends out portable lanterns as well. It was like stepping back into a period drama. There were also foreign staff members, and they were genuinely kind and attentive—we truly appreciated it. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again. Highly recommended if you are sightseeing in Dorogawa Onsen.

Relaxation in a Secluded Onsen
The service was attentive, and the locally sourced meals were delicious. Although it took some time to get there, we had a wonderful stay where we could truly experience the great outdoors and the purity of the water.

It was a wonderful accommodation.
After viewing the cherry blossoms in Yoshino, we stayed in Naramachi and used this Accommodation the following day. When we arrived, the rain had just stopped, and we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen until dinner. We came by car, and thank you for providing Shuttle Service to the parking lot. We stayed in “West Sky,” which was on the 4th floor, so going up and down was quite tough on our bodies after walking around Yoshino (lol). In the end, we mostly stayed on the 2nd floor—just moving between meals, the Onsen, and our Room—and only went down to the 1st floor after dinner to go out briefly. The wood balcony in our Room was very pleasant, and we were able to relax comfortably. It was perfect for enjoying a slow stay at this Accommodation. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

An Onsen Accommodation that Preserves the Charm of the Past
I stayed at Toma no Ma. The view from the full-length window facing the street, which still retains its old charm, felt wonderfully nostalgic—especially at night, when the lanterns along the street looked beautiful. The duck hot pot dinner was delicious and very filling. Best of all, jazz was playing on an excellent-sounding stereo system.

It exceeded my expectations.
I had formed my own image from the word “gyoja,” but it turned out to be a wonderful place—mysterious, yet embraced by its history, culture, and the warmth of the people. The Accommodation was very clean and comfortable. I was especially impressed by the salt-grilled ayu at dinner. The bath isn’t flashy, but it’s simple and very relaxing—I went in again and again. My skin feels silky smooth. I also enjoyed the winter atmosphere of the Onsen town streetscape. Snowy Dorogawa Onsen was picture-perfect everywhere I looked.

The meals were delicious.
I didn’t feel much warm hospitality. The meal was delicious, especially the tofu and sweetfish. There were only two tea bags in the Room, and I would have liked a few more.

Stay in the "Sky Room" with a private Onsen. The room is new and comfortable, and the Onsen leaves your skin smooth. Meals are delicious and satisfying. A relaxing stay that rejuvenates both body and mind.

Dorogawa Onsen is a wonderful place.
I stayed during the autumn foliage season. Since the parking lot is located a bit far, they helped unload our luggage in front of the accommodation and guided us to the parking area. The interior was beautifully decorated with flowers, and it was clear that everything was cleaned meticulously. The "East Sky" room was spacious enough, and the onsen in the room had a perfect temperature, making it very relaxing. However, it was disappointing that the men's bath was too lukewarm, while the women's bath had an ideal temperature! For dinner, we enjoyed wild boar hot pot (botan nabe), which had no unpleasant odor and tasted delicious. The local sake complemented it perfectly. Unfortunately, we couldn't finish all of our vegetables and tofu as we were too full—our apologies for leaving some behind! Dessert sherbet was brought to our room; it tasted great as a refreshing treat! The autumn leaves at Ryusenji Temple before breakfast were breathtakingly beautiful. Each small dish served at breakfast amazed us with its flavor—it left quite an impression! We also tried grilled ayu fish for the first time and loved it. The staff at this accommodation were all kind and friendly. During our strolls around town, even those at shops selling darani-suke medicine or sesame tofu were incredibly warm-hearted—it truly touched us. This trip to Dorogawa Onsen marked my first visit there; from its scenery to this accommodation to its people—everything exceeded expectations for an unforgettable experience. Thank you so much to everyone at this accommodation and Dorogawa Onsen!

It was a warm and welcoming accommodation.
- Rooms & Amenities The rooms were simple yet very clean. There was a small veranda where I could enjoy the view of a little garden with autumn leaves. It was very relaxing, especially after taking a bath. However, it was slightly disappointing that the room's window did not offer a view of the town. - Hospitality & Service Everyone was incredibly kind and provided warm hospitality. What surprised me most was that not only the staff at the accommodation but also people at various shops in Dorogawa Onsen offered similarly warm and friendly service. - Onsen & Bath The bathing area was compact but provided great warmth. Perhaps due to the limited number of rooms, I had it all to myself without encountering anyone else, which made for an excellent experience. With temperatures around 6°C, it felt even more comforting to warm up thoroughly. - Facility I came here specifically to stay in this precious historic building and found it highly satisfying. - Meals While the Yamato beef was delicious, the highlight for me was definitely the ayu fish. I've never tasted such rich and flavorful ayu before—thank you so much! - Overall Satisfaction Although it doesn't offer luxury like high-end ryokans, there is something unique about Dorogawa Onsen that can't be experienced elsewhere. Above all, it's incredibly affordable—almost too affordable! Even during a holiday period, this plan is offered at a price where you'd only get breakfast at a business hotel in Tokyo. I'm truly grateful—thank you!

Accommodation preserving traditional Japanese culture.
Returning to Dorogawa Onsen. This time, I visited as a base for the Kumano Kodo trail on the Omine Okugake route and climbing Mount Odaigahara. Compared to my visit a few months ago, there seemed to be more tourists. Both day and night, visitors enjoyed strolling around, dining, and sightseeing in the onsen town. At night, the streets are illuminated with lanterns, creating a different atmosphere from daytime and adding charm to both the accommodation and the onsen town. In the center of town stands Ryusenji Temple. As a sacred site for Shugendo practices, you can hear the sound of conch shells echoing throughout the onsen town even from your accommodation—a truly atmospheric experience. The accommodation itself retains its historical charm while being clean and comfortable for guests. The hospitality was excellent; even foreign staff members were doing their best to assist guests effectively based on previous stays—allowing me to relax fully during my visit. Meals were satisfying both in taste and presentation; breakfast and dinner featured local ingredients such as river fish served as sashimi or grilled dishes that were deliciously prepared. I stayed again in "Tenku no Ma" this time around. Compared to before, I noticed less sulfur scent from both public baths (large bath) or private room baths; however personally found more viscosity texture within private-room bath water compared against larger communal ones! From private-room bath views overlooking Dorogawa’s scenic streetscape below alongside autumn skies filled w/scale-like clouds & dragonflies flying amidst seasonal transitions felt serene soaking moments reflecting nature's beauty beyond mountains extending into village life too! Preserving ancient traditions tied closely towards reverence surrounding nature/Shugendo culture remains alive here despite modernity elsewhere fading away such values increasingly rare nowadays globally speaking hence why returning reconnect rediscover timeless essence awaits future visits ahead!

The building is classic and cozy. The staff are thoughtful and helpful, even assisting us in drying our raincoats and shoes after we arrived during heavy rain. The food and onsen are excellent! I hope to visit again.

Peaceful sleep without air conditioning.
This was my fourth visit. The cleanliness has always been excellent, but it felt like it had been upgraded this time. The bath was especially spotless. The meals were homemade and delicious, with the grilled ayu fish of the season being absolutely exquisite. Thank you for promptly accommodating all our various requests as well. Above all, escaping from the scorching summer heat to enjoy a night without air conditioning or even a fan—just leaving the windows open and falling asleep to the gentle sounds of insects—was truly refreshing, leading to a wonderfully pleasant morning. I look forward to visiting again next year for another dreamy summer experience. Thank you very much!

The perfect ambiance
I stayed one night in the Sky Room, and it made for a very pleasant trip. The Ryokan staff kindly guided us to a parking lot located a short distance away, so there were no issues. The room was spacious, the bath was ready to use (as expected in the sky), and the atmosphere of the hallways and stairs was wonderful. While it has an old charm, it has been properly renovated and feels very clean. Also, the audio room is amazing. For those who know, you can enjoy jazz with McIntosh separate amplifiers and JBL speakers. The meals have a traditional Ryokan style, but items like tofu were exceptionally delicious. The hospitality of all the staff truly came through, making me want to visit this Ryokan again. I will definitely return!

Sky Healing
Everything, from the ambiance, Room, bath, to the cuisine, was absolutely exceptional. What made the stay even more delightful was the indescribably gentle atmosphere that surrounded us everywhere. I truly felt relaxed from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much. I look forward to visiting again.

An accommodation to inspire your thoughts.
Visited after hiking Mount Hakkyo, part of the Kumano Kodo Omine Okugake route. Upon arrival at the accommodation, luggage was unloaded and guided to a separate parking area before returning to the accommodation by their vehicle. The accommodation and onsen town exude charm and tradition. Dorogawa Onsen retains its old-fashioned atmosphere, welcoming practitioners in traditional white Shugendo attire during the day. At night, lanterns illuminate the streets, creating a different ambiance perfect for leisurely strolls. The accommodation and room are old yet impeccably clean, reflecting a sense of history. Hospitality was commendable with foreign staff making great efforts to provide excellent service. Meals were satisfying with both breakfast and dinner featuring local ingredients; river fish was particularly delicious. Stayed in "Tenku no Ma" this time—both the large public bath and private room bath had a slight sulfur scent with mildly viscous water quality. From the private bath, views of Dorogawa Onsen's townscape could be enjoyed while listening to conch shell horns echoing through the onsen town—a unique experience blending tradition and spirituality. This place has long welcomed practitioners over centuries; even now it offers glimpses into its rich history just by staying here. Looking forward to visiting again!

Had a great time.
It was my first visit, and it was a wonderful accommodation. There were still some cherry blossoms left, and on such a lovely day, I enjoyed the Onsen at Dorogawa and indulged in the Tokubei Kaiseki filled with mountain delicacies—it was truly refreshing. The food was absolutely delicious. This is truly an accommodation where you can relax; I might have spent quite a long time enjoying the jazz-filled lounge all to myself. With the Reiwa era, transportation access seems to have improved significantly. This time I traveled by private car, which made it very comfortable. For those considering staying here: please note that women's basic skincare sets are not provided as amenities—you will need to purchase them for 200 yen or bring your own. Additionally, if you're concerned about wearing geta (wooden clogs), it's recommended to bring socks suitable for them. This is an accommodation I can recommend to friends and acquaintances. Thank you for your hospitality!

A very good accommodation.
The staff were all kind and provided warm, heartfelt hospitality. The meals were well-portioned, and the freshly grilled sweetfish was especially delicious and satisfying. Dorogawa Onsen has a nostalgic atmosphere unlike anywhere else, and the view of lanterns quietly lining the Ryokan streets at dusk is truly wonderful. I would love to visit again.

It was the best Stays for the New Year.
I stayed for two nights from New Year's Day. The building had a very charming atmosphere! There was a mochi pounding event for the New Year, which lifted our spirits. The meals were very well-seasoned and heartfelt, leaving us completely satisfied. The Onsen bath was small, but its beautiful decor was soothing. *I apologize for the trouble caused by my forgotten item. I hope to visit again someday. Thank you very much.
