    Halfway there

    The building has just been renovated, and both the exterior and interior are clean and well maintained. Check-out is done via a machine, and the 1st floor offers complimentary drinks and ice cream. At night, the front desk is unstaffed, and guests can come and go freely. Meals are served either in a private dining room or in your Room. There is no menu, and since the staff are foreign nationals they cannot explain the dishes—so you won’t know what will be served next or how much food to expect. The meal progression also felt inconsistent: after pork shabu-shabu and sashimi came soba, sushi, then gratin—one carbohydrate-heavy dish after another. The Room has no bath or shower; there are two private baths available. Bath Reservations can be made before dinner and early in the morning; at other times it’s first-come, first-served. Even with only nine guest rooms total, not being able to use the Onsen freely without worrying about timing was stressful. Taken individually, none of these points are terrible, but overall it didn’t feel like there was a consistent concept that matched the price point or a clearly defined target guest experience.

    Meals are on the salty side.

    I felt the meals were a bit too salty, so I think it would be better to reduce the salt slightly. The private bath was excellent.

    It was the best trip ever.

    The room was very clean and provided a comfortable stay. The meal was a crab course, and there was more crab than expected, which made it very satisfying. It was an experience worth more than the price. We also received a pass for visiting public baths, allowing us to enjoy them even after checkout. I would love to stay here again.
