Enjoy a traditional, classic Ryokan experience

If you’re looking for a charming Onsen and Ryokan experience, this is an excellent choice. The buffet meals were also delicious.

    Class reunion

This time, six women stayed together. We hoped to sleep all together in one room. It was our first reunion in 35 years, and we had such a wonderful time—it felt like a trip back to our student days. The hot spring was excellent, and I even regretted not coming here when we were students. The photo at the entrance, the restaurant seating arrangement, the photos, the bedding, and the comfortable temperature settings were all great. Since it was very hot, the Shuttle Service to the bus stop was also a big help. Everyone seemed happy in their own way. With its retro atmosphere, I think this place is perfect for reunions. Thank you very much.

High-quality service backed by tradition and our staff’s strong commitment

The Room was thoroughly cleaned down to the smallest details, and we were able to stay very comfortably. Since our Room faced the river, we could hear the kajika frogs calling at night and enjoy a wonderfully luxurious atmosphere. Also, whenever we passed staff members in the hallway and elsewhere, they greeted us thoughtfully, and I was impressed by how many of them showed such attentive hospitality. The meals exceeded our expectations in both flavor and variety, and every dish was delicious. The dining area also showed careful consideration in its seating arrangement, creating a refined, high-quality space for dining. As for the baths, we could enjoy both Kinsen and Ginsen without leaving the property, with three different bath areas available—more than enough to fully relax and enjoy ourselves. At first I was surprised to hear that amenities are not placed in the Room but are picked up in the lobby to bring back with you; however, once we tried it, it felt flexible and actually more convenient. When we visit Arima Onsen again, my family agreed there won’t be any other choice.

I don’t think this is an Accommodation that should be featured on IKYU!

I rarely write a Review, but I’m posting this because I don’t think this Accommodation is worth featuring on IKYU. ① Check-in: It’s no different from a Business Hotel. They didn’t take my suitcase out of the car trunk, didn’t carry it to the lobby, and didn’t bring it to my Room. I could understand this at a cheap place like Ooedo Onsen, but it was the same level here. ② There are hardly any power outlets in the Room. It’s difficult to charge phones and other devices. ③ The entire property did not feel clean. ④ Perhaps because there are so few staff, there was essentially no service. As mentioned above, this is the first time I’ve stayed at such an expensive Accommodation with service like an Ooedo Onsen Ryokan. There was nothing I found satisfying.

    A Large Traditional Ryokan

This was my third visit to Arima Onsen, and my first stay at this Accommodation. It has the charm of a traditional large-scale Ryokan, with a newer hotel-style wing and an older Ryokan-style wing connected by somewhat complex walkways. Both wings have souvenir shops; the newer wing also has a café and alcohol vending machines, and seems to offer karaoke, a bar, and late-night soba service. I liked that the newer wing (with the Hotel-style facilities such as the large public bath) is separated by the river from the older wing with Japanese-style Rooms. The property also appears to be mindful of accessibility, with escalators and other barrier-free measures. Meals were served buffet-style in a large hall; the selection was decent and satisfying. Overall, while some Facilities feel dated (which lowered my rating slightly), it still offers good value for money. The Shuttle Service was handled quickly, and despite having many Rooms and families with children staying there, it remained quiet—so overall satisfaction was high.

    First Time in Arima Onsen

We enjoyed Arima Onsen with our family of five. The cherry blossoms were still in bud, but that had its own charm, and we were blessed with good weather, making it a wonderful trip. Meals: Kobe beef teppanyaki, fresh sashimi, plus a buffet where we could choose what we liked. The bath was amazing—especially the open-air bath outside (Tamaboko-no-Yu)! We were very satisfied with this Accommodation full of Showa-era retro charm! By this weekend, the cherry blossoms will probably be in full bloom... We’d love to stay again when we have the chance. Thank you for your hospitality.

My mother, my daughter, and I (2 guests)

We enjoyed our stay last year, so the three of us came again this year. We relaxed in a Room with a garden view, ate lots of delicious food, and enjoyed all three baths—completely satisfied.

    Private room with open-air bath

The Room was on the first floor and very spacious, with a bedroom, a Japanese-style Room, a living room, and an open-air bath, so we were able to stay comfortably. The in-Room open-air bath felt wonderful, but the partition to the outside was rather small and there was quite a gap at the bottom, so at night I was worried that an animal or something might come in. Also, there is a narrow path between the outside of the Room and the river running alongside it; since several workers seemed to be walking along it and there wasn’t much greenery to block the view, that also bothered me a bit. The buffet meals were very delicious, but small children were running around and nearly bumped into us at times, so I would have liked staff to address it. There were also issues such as missing loungewear that should have been in the Room and being given incorrect directions to the buffet venue. The Room door locks automatically, but there was no door chain or similar secondary lock, which made me feel slightly uneasy as well.

Anticipating Arima Onsen’s Kinsen and Ginsen

After exploring the Onsen town (mostly taking breaks because the slopes were tough), I checked in and was shown to my Room. There is only one escalator, and my Room was at the far end of the 3rd floor. After being tired from walking, it felt exhausting; every time I went back and forth for the bath or meals, I kept thinking that if it were only up to the 2nd floor, I could somehow manage.

    The autumn foliage is stunning.

We were able to visit three Onsen, and they were very relaxing. The meals were buffet-style, but everything was high quality and we were very satisfied. The building is old and has a charming atmosphere, but the stained hallway carpets and the dirty floor mats in the Room were a negative point.

    We stayed as a three...

We stayed as a three-generation family. The quality of the Onsen was excellent, and the kaiseki cuisine was very satisfying in terms of portion, taste, and presentation.

    It was enjoyable.

After arriving early, our luggage and car were promptly taken care of, allowing us to enjoy sightseeing in Arima. The bath was very pleasant, especially the open-air bath, and we enjoyed three different locations. Meals were satisfying with both main dishes and a buffet option available, all delicious. It would have been better if the replenishment at the buffet was quicker. Some areas deeper inside the facility had insufficient air conditioning, making it slightly uncomfortable when returning to the Room; this could be improved.

Rooms with open-air baths are highly recommended.

I stayed in a room with an open-air onsen, and the room was very spacious. Both dinner and breakfast were luxurious and delicious. I could enjoy the onsen in the room anytime I wanted, making it a truly indulgent experience. I would love to stay again.

    Historic Japanese-style Ryokan

During our trip, we stayed at Gekkoen Yugetsu Sanso. Although it was unfortunately raining upon our arrival, the staff kindly came to our car with umbrellas as soon as we reached the front of the ryokan. Thanks to their assistance, we were able to unload our luggage without getting wet, and we were impressed by their excellent service. Additionally, some of the staff members inside the accommodation were from overseas and provided multilingual support for guests, which highlighted their high level of service. The room we stayed in during this trip was a traditional Japanese-style room with a view of a flowing river from the window. During daylight hours, we enjoyed the river scenery; after sunset when it got dark, we relaxed while admiring the softly illuminated view of both the river and garden under gentle lighting and listening to the soothing sound of flowing water. The meals were served buffet-style but maintained high quality, leaving us very satisfied. While there was a sense of age in parts of the Japanese-style room that reflected its history, this added charm and enhanced our experience overall. As for bathing facilities—just as described on their official website—we enjoyed both types of Arima Onsen's famous "Golden Water" and "Silver Water." The ryokan also featured two large communal baths within its premises as well as an open-air bath facility along a riverside area within its grounds exclusively for outdoor bathing enthusiasts like myself! For those who love onsen experiences like I do—I highly recommend visiting at least once!

The room is traditional Japanese and old, but the bath is absolutely wonderful. The staff provided courteous service, making the stay very pleasant.

    Mother, Daughter, and Me

We visited after my daughter recommended it as a great place for her graduation trip, and I went with my mother and another female companion. We were able to relax in a Room with a view of the garden. The staff and the meals were excellent. Even on a cold day, we enjoyed the open-air bath, which delighted my 80-year-old mother. There were many large koi fish, and when we looked at them, we were kindly allowed to feed them, which made us very happy.

    The meals were incredibly delicious!

The meals served in the Room, both dinner and breakfast, were very delicious. The quantity, variety, and quality were all highly satisfying. The staff's hospitality was excellent, allowing for a relaxing stay. However, the Room was quite dry; having a humidifier would have been even better (the air purifier had a humidifying function but it wasn't sufficient).

It was a wonderful, Showa-era retro Ryokan.

The staff’s attentive hospitality was wonderful. The Facility felt a bit dated in a charming way—there was even a copy of old-style TV listings in the Room, and the unit bath was unusually retro. It was nostalgic to see items like the large-bath shampoo sold at the shop, and even the uniforms had a classic feel. The Room kettle that only keeps water warm was something I’d never seen before. The garden outside the Room window was very soothing. Getting around to the Rooms and baths involved stairs in many places, and even the creaking floors made us feel the history. The meals were high quality, with plenty of variety, and everything was delicious. However, Himeji oden is usually eaten with ginger soy sauce, but we could only find mustard. The large baths are not rotated by gender. The Korokan bath was spacious; the others were smaller but not uncomfortably so. I would like them to replace the Kame-no-Yu hair dryer with a higher-powered one—it takes quite a while. It was also helpful that each changing room had lockers with keys. The Onsen water was brownish but odorless—an excellent Onsen overall. We’d love to visit again.

    The hospitality was ...

The hospitality was very attentive. I had a pleasant stay. Unfortunately, I was concerned about tattoos in the bathhouse due to the increasing number of foreigners. In onsen areas, some places seem to be accepting them recently, and I chose Arima because I understood it was prohibited there. It's a bit disappointing, even though everyone had good manners.

    For family use

Due to an increase in the number of people from the original plan because of my son's invitation, I made a reservation on the waiting list, and when a spot became available, I completed the reservation. The staff's hospitality and the meal content were also good. Thank you for taking care of us.
