    It was my first time staying here.

    The spring source is sulfur, and we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen at a comfortable temperature. All of the staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was a little sparse, but we will visit again.

    The Onsen (bath) is excellent; everything else is quite ordinary.

    For this long-awaited trip to Oku-Nikko, we stayed at Itaya, a long-established Ryokan chosen for its Onsen. As expected from a place proud of its Onsen, the milky-white sulfur spring bath felt genuinely good for the body. The sulfur smell was less noticeable than I had expected. Other than the Onsen, the Room was spacious, but amenities were not fully provided, so you need to bring your own. For dinner, the “Tochigi beef shabu-shabu” and the separately ordered “salt-grilled char” were delicious, but there weren’t many other standout dishes—though we did leave full. Breakfast was simple with few items, but the “ochazuke” was tasty. Considering the price of 62,000 yen for one night for two people, it felt a bit too expensive for what you get.

    Exceeded expectations!

    The meals were absolutely delicious. Everything we ate felt carefully prepared, and it was truly wonderful. Breakfast was also excellent across the board and exceeded our expectations. The bath was great as well. We would definitely love to visit again!

    The Onsen is outstanding. If you enjoy sulfur springs, you’ll likely feel the same way.

    This was my third stay. Even so, it had been more than 20 years since my last visit, but I made a Reservation to enjoy that wonderful Onsen again. There was only one Room left on the no-meals Plan, and the price was reasonably low—so it felt like a great deal in its own way. I vaguely remember a dinner from long ago, perhaps sansho-seasoned okowa rice. It was a little sad not to have meals provided, but I bought some nicer food at Fukudaya in Utsunomiya and brought it back for an in-room dinner, settling in for an overnight Onsen retreat. During my stay, I bathed five times and enjoyed an incredibly relaxing time. The Room was a twin-bed room; while it’s old, it’s kept very clean, and you can tell the staff take careful pride in maintaining cleanliness. After 20 years, the Onsen felt even more atmospheric—the indoor bath and open-air bath both seemed to have gained even more character over time. It may not be large or luxurious, but it’s one of my favorite Accommodations, and I’m looking forward to coming back again.

    Completely satisfied. I want to come again.

    Dining in a private room offers a special experience, with every dish being exceptionally delicious, allowing for a relaxing and luxurious time. The hot spring water is excellent, and the open-air bath is full of charm. This time, I visited with a foreign friend who usually spends only a short time in baths but was surprisingly immersed multiple times for extended periods. What stands out even more is the warm hospitality of the staff. They greeted us with smiles every time we met and provided heartfelt service during meals, which left a lasting impression. The complimentary coffee service in the lounge was also a thoughtful touch. I visit Oku-Nikko every year, but I can no longer imagine staying anywhere other than this accommodation.

    As expected from the fourth richest Onsen in the whole country, it was amazing!

    It was a long-awaited revisit, and I was able to relax and rejuvenate in the same tranquility as before. In a quiet environment free from the hustle and bustle often found in Onsen areas, I enjoyed the wonderful Onsen while gazing at the mountain scenery—a truly blissful moment. The Facility is slightly old but well-maintained and clean, leaving a good impression. Additionally, the smiles of all the staff were very comforting. I would love to stay here again. Lastly, if I may make one suggestion: only one bath towel and one face towel are provided per Room, which felt slightly inconvenient for reuse. It would be great if you could consider increasing them.

    Milky white hot spring

    The moment I arrived at Yumoto, it was refreshingly cool. The ryokan had a traditional and historic charm. Although I had visited Yumoto many times, this was my first stay. The highlight was the onsen water, which was absolutely amazing. The sulfur scent was strong, and the temperature was just right. While the sulfur left marks around the bath area, everything was cleaned thoroughly, allowing for a relaxing and leisurely experience. The staff were also very kind. Thank you for accommodating our meal preferences. From the room window in the evening, I could see many deer coming out to graze.

    The experience did not meet my expectations.

    The overall age of the facility is understandable. How about considering a more extensive renovation? The bath has excellent milky white hot water, but the facility is too old.

    Busy Accommodation

    I hope this feedback is helpful. During dinner, the dishes were cleared away so quickly that I couldn't enjoy my meal at a relaxed pace. I would have appreciated it if they had refrained from clearing the table without checking or saying anything. In the morning, after finishing breakfast and returning to my Room, I found that the futon had been put away without my knowledge, leaving the Room messy and making me feel uncomfortable. Whether it's about dinner or futons, I believe confirmation is necessary.

    Relaxing Onsen Accommodation

    A traditional Onsen accommodation. The building is old but meticulously maintained. The Onsen features a milky white sulfur spring with an appropriate water depth. Additionally, the bottom is smooth, allowing guests to enter and exit safely. The meal portions were just right for elderly guests.

    The sulfur hot spring was amazing.

    The pure white sulfur hot spring was absolutely satisfying! Although I read that the meals might be small, they were filling and delicious. I personally loved the high-end hairdryer! I would love to visit again.
