    Second stay—absolutely satisfied!

We stayed here for the first time just after New Year’s, and my spouse, our dog, and I were all very satisfied—so we came back again four months later. Everything was excellent: truly pet-first, wonderful staff hospitality, great meals, and relaxing baths. Modern stylish Accommodations are nice too, but we really love Kinugawa’s charming retro atmosphere… We’re already planning our third visit this year… We’ll be coming all the way from Izu (lol). See you then!

A Safe Accommodation Near Tobu World Square

Traveling with our dog, we chose Kinugawa Kokusai Hotel near Tobu World Square, which we had long wanted to visit. The staff kindly helped carry our luggage at check-in and were very friendly, so both our dog and we had a wonderful time. The Room had an indoor bath where we could relax while enjoying the view. We would love to come again during the autumn foliage season. Thank you very much.

    A long-established pet-friendly accommodation

As a long-established pet-friendly Accommodation, there are some areas that feel a bit dated. The Room was designed to be easy for pets to walk around in, and the bath was also nice. However, since the bath is not heated continuously, it was set to a temperature that allowed us to bathe right after arrival, but it had become cold by the time we went in after dinner. It would have been better if hot water had been kept running at all times. We also used the dog run, but perhaps because meals are served in the Room, we had little interaction with other dogs—so this Accommodation is ideal for those who prefer that.

    Perfect for dogs

We stayed as three families, using three Rooms. Only our family brought a dog. We used the private family bath with our dog, and he absolutely loved it—I truly felt glad we brought him. He also really enjoyed the dog run. It may be an ideal Accommodation for dogs. As for people, though, for this price I think we could have stayed at an Accommodation two levels higher. I felt bad for having invited my parents and relatives along. All the staff were kind, and I have no complaints about that. However, the Facilities and the large public bath (the one on the first floor has only five washing stations) didn’t feel worth the price. I think this is an Accommodation best suited to those who don’t mind paying extra in order to stay with their pets. If we come again, we’ll come only as our own family with our dog, without inviting my parents or relatives.

A cozy Hotel with a nostalgic Showa retro vibe

This was our second trip to Kinugawa, and we found this accommodation while searching for a place to stay with our beloved dog. The hotel has a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere, both in its exterior and interior. There are paintings and ornaments of dogs and cats throughout the facility, as well as photo spots where you can take pictures with your pets, creating a warm and welcoming vibe. We had two dogs with us and used our own cart, so the small elevator felt slightly inconvenient for getting on and off. However, if you have a very small dog that can be carried, moving around should be smooth. Meals were served in the room, allowing us to enjoy them calmly; they were also very delicious. The bath area operates on a gender-swapping schedule for use of the large public bath. The spacious onsen was relaxing and enjoyable. The only disappointment was regarding the outdoor bath on the fifth floor that allows pets; we had made a reservation expecting it to always be filled with water but found out upon arrival that we needed to fill it ourselves. Additionally, there were some fallen leaves in the bath area which made it feel unclean, so we reluctantly decided to cancel using it. There are three dog runs available at this accommodation—one even has a roof for rainy days—which makes it enjoyable regardless of weather conditions. The staff members are accustomed to animals and spoke kindly about them, providing reassurance during our stay. As an added service, they took family photos for us in the lobby—a delightful touch! Overall, we had an excellent experience here and would love to return if given another opportunity!

    The Perfect Birthday

In October, we celebrated the birthdays of my wife and our only daughter (a Chi-Poo) with a special trip to "Kinugawa Kokusai Hotel." It was such a wonderful accommodation, especially since it's rare to find facilities where you can stay with pets. As it was for a birthday celebration, they kindly accepted our cake reservation—thank you so much! This hotel is truly pet-friendly! Upon check-in, they took a commemorative photo of the whole family with our dog. We rarely get such opportunities, so it made us very happy. The hotel's interior is filled with dog-related items like plush toys and paintings. You can also see unique pieces collected by the owner from around the world—it felt like being in an art museum. There’s an indoor dog run, so even on rainy days your pet can play. During our stay, it rained one day, but thanks to this facility, our dog got plenty of exercise. Afterward, we used the outdoor onsen for dogs—it was her first time and she seemed both curious and cautious (haha). Of course, the onsen for humans was absolutely amazing too! For meals, you can choose between dining in your room or at a banquet hall. This time I chose the banquet hall option—the food was incredibly delicious! They also provide meals for dogs which is very helpful (our pup finished hers in no time!). The room had pet amenities like toilet sheets available as well, allowing us to relax comfortably together. If you're traveling with dogs or cats—this place is highly recommended! They even have quizzes prepared for guests—be sure to try them out during your stay; we had so much fun! I definitely want to stay here again when visiting Kinugawa. Thank you for creating such wonderful memories!!!

    The guest room windo...

The guest room windows do not have screens, so extra caution is needed for families with small children. The owner's love for dogs is very evident, but the service staff, especially Japanese staff, may come across as formal and emotionless. However, this place is truly accommodating for guests traveling with pets.

    About Room Amenities

The body soap in the room's bath was a bar soap. The toilet had a slight odor. The elevator stopped midway, possibly due to lightning, which was a downside. Other than that, the property is old but well-maintained. Recommended for guests with pets.

    I had a relaxing stay.

We stayed for one night with three people and one dog. It was our first time at this Hotel. The gentleman in the lobby, perhaps from Nepal? He was very attentive and helpful. When we were looking around trying to find our way, he immediately came over and explained everything to us. Such attentiveness is rare... it was truly wonderful. Please give him recognition for his excellent service! The staff who served the in-room meals and prepared the futons were also foreign nationals, but they all spoke proper Japanese and worked hard. We would love to stay here again next time! We have a request for the Hotel: since we are traveling with a dog and having in-room dining, it would be great if you could prepare the futons before check-in. Also, would it be possible to leave the futons laid out until check-out? Lastly, thank you for accommodating our request to serve all dishes at once during meals!

We visited with a family of five and three dogs. The room was very spacious, clean, and well-maintained, allowing us to have a comfortable stay. The meal portions were too large for us, and we couldn't finish them both in the morning and evening. There were plenty of facilities for the dogs, which was great. We were able to relax very much.

    Cats will be satisfied too.

The facility is somewhat old, so there are some aspects of the guest rooms and Onsen that may not fully satisfy. However, with services like pet photography and a cat room, we were overall satisfied with the experience of enjoying it with our pets.

    The worst experience was

The miso soup at breakfast was served hot, which was delightful. Dinner from the standard menu had a sufficient portion size, but the red miso soup wasn't to my taste. It would be nice to have an option between plain white rice and seasoned rice. The most unacceptable issue was with the "diced steak" on the dog menu—it was not diced steak but dry food! Charging over 1,000 yen for this is outrageous. Diced steak should consist of sautéed cube-cut meat; this does not qualify as such, and I request a refund. The large bath on the third floor requires descending stairs from the changing area, which poses risks not only for elderly guests but also for general users. The water temperature in both first-floor and third-floor baths was too hot for me to enter comfortably. While it mentioned that water is added to adjust temperature, there’s no clarity on how much dilution occurs. Regarding dinner service staff: while foreign staff showed genuine effort in their service, a senior Japanese female staff member appeared unfriendly and merely gave instructions to others without engaging directly with guests—this felt unprofessional as someone who works in customer service myself. Despite its age, cleanliness throughout the accommodation has been maintained well; however, the elevator felt outdated with concerning noises and vibrations. In our room, I could hear children running around and dogs barking—highlighting poor soundproofing alongside signs of aging infrastructure. As other reviews have noted: prohibiting leash walking indoors can be challenging for medium or large dogs. Additionally, while damages are said to require compensation at cost price by guests (as explained), items like sliding doors or ceramic ornaments within rooms pose high risks—pet fees collected should include insurance coverage instead. The private bathroom attached to our room lacked practicality since it instructed us only to fill up using a showerhead rather than taps. I hope this accommodation evolves into one befitting its pioneering reputation!

    I want to visit again.

The building is old but well-maintained and clean. There is also a dog run, making the stay comfortable. The food was delicious, and I would love to stay here again!

    Pet-friendly Onsen Hotel

Once you step into the Hotel, you can feel the love of the owner and staff for dogs (and cats). The most delightful aspect was the photo studio for dogs, which offered a wide variety of costume designs and sizes. However, it was disappointing that the person who prepared our in-room meal repeatedly touched the tips of chopsticks and spoons (the part that goes into your mouth) with their fingers before setting them. There was no alcohol disinfectant available, so I washed them with hot water before use. Additionally, I was surprised when someone came to fold up our futon and stored it in the closet without changing the sheets. Since it's a pet-friendly Room, at least changing sheets would be appreciated. There are no circles or cages in the Room, so it's better to bring your own crate. It would have been nice if there were hooks to hang leashes in the Room. As a dog lover, I hope more pet-friendly Hotels like this continue to increase.

The room was very clean and the meals were good.

There is a room with an onsen open-air bath, which I had been curious about for a while, so this time I visited with two people and three dogs. The staff were very polite and welcomed us warmly. Upon arriving at the room, they were considerate of our nervous dog, provided minimal explanations, and then left the room. The room was very clean, divided into a tatami room, a dining room, and a bedroom, making it very user-friendly. You can go out to the dog run from the bath, and then immediately wash your feet and such in the shower, dry them on the grooming table, and enter the room, which was a good flow. However, the shower was weak, with little hot water, and it was difficult to adjust the temperature, which was quite challenging. Also, there seemed to be a slight drainage issue, as stepping into a puddle-like area and returning to the dressing room was a bit stressful. The room bath has a good onsen quality, so I hope it will be improved. The meals were very satisfying in both quantity and taste, and I think they are part of the charm of this property along with the service. I was a little puzzled by the lack of cages and amenities, but as multi-dog owners, if we were to stay again, I think we would choose this room again. Thank you for taking care of us.
