We had a relaxing and enjoyable trip.

There were a few disappointing points, such as the yukata, but the Room and the large public bath felt very open and were wonderful. I was also very satisfied because the open-air bath in the Room was an Onsen. All of the meals were delicious! I did feel it was a shame that changing some of the tableware slightly could make everything look even better, though. If those minor issues are improved, this is a Ryokan I would definitely like to visit again.

Relax and unwind in the open-air bath.

From the infinity open-air bath, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Kinugawa River and lush green trees, and feel refreshed in both body and mind as you breathe in the fresh outdoor air. Dinner is also gently seasoned and delicious. Unlike large hotels, you can spend a quiet, relaxing time here.

I was able to relax in this quiet Accommodation.

On my way back from a business trip to Tokyo, I planned a visit to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, which I had long wanted to see. I stayed one night at an Accommodation in Kinugawa Onsen. I chose it after searching with conditions such as having an in-Room Onsen bath and being reasonably priced. The lobby was well maintained, and the hallways were very clean as well. Our Room had an Onsen bath and two separate rooms, so my wife went to the large public bath while I enjoyed the in-Room bath. The meals were very delicious, and the portions were just right—slightly on the generous side. It was a quiet Accommodation where I could relax in the Onsen, which was wonderful. Many of the staff seemed to be from overseas, but everyone was polite and courteous. One thing that concerned me was that when I opened the window by the in-Room bath, there were quite a few spider webs. Also, insects gathered on the window at night so we couldn’t open it; I thought that if there had been a screen door or similar, we could have opened it. If I have another chance to visit nearby, I would like to stay again.

It was a wonderful, thoughtful gesture.

Upon arrival, several staff members greeted us with warm smiles. Many of the staff were from overseas, but everyone was attentive and kind. The Room was spacious, and looking down we could see the Kinugawa River flowing below. Lush greenery spread out right in front of us, and although it was unfortunately raining, we were able to enjoy a truly magical view. The open-air bath was spotless and well maintained, and the scenery—surrounded by nature—made it a wonderful, relaxing space. At dinner, the proprietress came to greet us, and each course was served at just the right pace. At breakfast, I even had seconds of rice. On our way out, they gave us a pair of chopsticks for couples and discreetly attached a “drive safely” charm to our car key—thoughtful touches that moved us until the very end. We would love to visit again if we have the chance, and I would definitely recommend it to friends.

    Girls’ Trip: Part 4

We stayed here for our annual girls’ trip with the same group every year. We were impressed by the courteous service from all the staff, and even though there were many international staff members, their Japanese was fluent. The view from our Room was breathtaking—we could have gazed at it forever. The Onsen was also wonderful, and perhaps because it wasn’t crowded that day, we were able to enjoy it in a luxurious, private-feeling way and were very satisfied. We had been looking forward to the meals, and both dinner and breakfast offered so many dishes that we didn’t know where to start. Everything was well seasoned and perfectly suited our tastes. At dinner, the proprietress came to greet us, and we enjoyed a pleasant conversation. We drove this time, but since it’s also close to the station, we’d love to come again by train. True to its name as an Accommodation of heartfelt hospitality, we received more than enough warm service. Thank you very much.

I truly felt the warm hospitality.

Many of the staff were from overseas, but everyone was friendly and made us feel at ease. In the hallway, I overheard Japanese staff teaching overseas staff, and I appreciated how kindly and politely they spoke. The proprietress came to greet us at dinner; she was cheerful, charming, and wonderful. I felt that her warmth carried through to the Accommodation and the entire team. Both the Room and the baths were clean and very pleasant. The open-air bath had a beautiful view of the Kinugawa River and mountains right in front of us, with a comfortable temperature that made it easy to stay in for a long time. I also loved dinner and breakfast—the tableware suited my taste perfectly, and of course everything tasted great. We enjoyed a variety of yuba dishes, and the beef shabu-shabu was so tender it went down smoothly. Since Kinugawa is easily accessible by train from the Tokyo metropolitan area—and this Accommodation is just steps from the station—I’d like to visit again next time with my daughters.

    A wonderful traditional Accommodation

We chose this Accommodation because the Reviews were great. We stayed to celebrate our wedding anniversary. First, we reserved a cake before our stay. Even though it was last-minute, a male staff member kindly and politely helped us. When we went to drop off our luggage before 15:00, it was dark inside, but they still took our bags and carried them to our Room for us. After check-in, we enjoyed sweets and tea in the Room and then visited the private bath and the large public bath. The Room had an older style, but it was well cleaned and very pleasant. The baths had a water dispenser, which was nice. The view of the Kinugawa River was wonderful as well. Everything felt very clean. Dinner was served in a private room. The pacing of the meal was just right, and we appreciated having one staff member take care of us throughout. During dinner, the proprietress came to greet us. These days there seem to be fewer Ryokan where you receive such a greeting, so it made us especially happy. One small thing: it would have been even better if tea or coffee had been offered at the end of dinner. When we returned to our Room after dinner, the futons had been laid out and our tea and sweets were replenished. There was also a pot of cold water, which I really appreciated since I tend to get thirsty at night. Breakfast wasn’t in a private room, but when we chose the earliest time slot it wasn’t crowded. It was nice to eat quietly. I did wish there had been something sweet like fruit or yogurt with breakfast. When we completed checkout in advance, we received a gift and a congratulatory letter from the proprietress. The letter was handwritten and truly moving. Overall, this was an excellent Accommodation. They saw us off until we were completely out of sight at the very end—it warmed our hearts. We would love to stay here again when visiting Kinugawa.

    We had a relaxing stay.

Nearby, you’ll find river rafting, the town’s roadside station, and a large suspension bridge, making the location very convenient. The property has a calm atmosphere, and even during the busy Golden Week period, all staff welcomed us with warm smiles and provided excellent service. From the lobby and our Room, we enjoyed panoramic views of fresh greenery and the Kinugawa River. The view from the large public bath was also outstanding and very relaxing. The meals were beautifully presented—including the tableware—and absolutely delicious. It was a wonderful trip.

    I stayed here with m...

I stayed here with my elderly mother to relax and spend some quiet time together. It may have been a coincidence, but our Room, the bath, and the dinner venue were all on the same floor, making it very easy to get around. It was comfortable for my mother as well, with minimal strain. Also, since the bath was available outside of cleaning hours, we could use it even late at night without hesitation and truly enjoy a relaxing soak. My mother is a former tour conductor and tends to be quite particular about travel (haha), but she was very impressed by many things: how thoroughly everything was cleaned throughout the property—especially the Room and bath area—the cleanliness of the provided amenities, the care put into the tea and sweets in the Room, and how delicious the meals were. She had a wonderful time. It’s also close to the station, and I’m happy to have found such a great Ryokan that’s easy to visit on a whim from Tokyo.

Relax and enjoy at your own pace

We stayed for one night and two days. The large public bath was not crowded, so we were able to relax and enjoy it at our leisure. From the open-air bath, we could look out over the Kinugawa River. The meals were plentiful and delicious, and both my spouse and I were very satisfied. The only thing that stood out was that the hallway was a bit cold. You may want to dress a little warmer when walking around the property. The staff’s hospitality was wonderful, and we had a great time. We stayed to celebrate an anniversary this time, and we were truly touched by the congratulatory message and gift we received!

    A Welcoming Accommodation

Although most of the staff were from overseas, their service was very courteous, and even the proprietress came to greet us. The place was spotless, and I would like to stay again. The foot massage was excellent and really effective. It was reasonably priced, which is rare for an Onsen area. I slept very well. Highly recommended.

    I was very satisfied!

This was our second stay, the first since last May. We have stayed at other accommodations in Kinugawa Onsen before, but we were so impressed by the baths during our previous visit to Nanae Yae that we decided to return over a three-day holiday weekend. This time, we chose the Tochigi Wagyu dining Plan and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The Plan let us enjoy both shabu-shabu and a teppan-grilled steak. At first, I had some concerns about the meat quality and whether it might be too fatty, but those worries disappeared instantly—it was truly delicious. It had been a while since I’d enjoyed such high-quality beef with just the right amount of fat. Although it was quite busy due to our mid-holiday stay, my spouse and I were able to relax and fully enjoy our time here. We’re now thinking of visiting again during the autumn foliage season.

I was able to relax and get a good rest.

In an age when efficiency is valued, it still feels wonderful to be welcomed outside the entrance with a smile. The staff member in charge of our Room thoughtfully checked my husband’s yukata size and delivered the right one to our Room before we even had a chance to ask—this was a first for us at a Ryokan. The Onsen was just right as well. We found a great Accommodation. Thank you.

    The Room's bath was ...

The Room's bath was an Onsen and absolutely wonderful. You can open the window and enjoy a semi-open-air experience. The meals were traditional, with nothing particularly innovative; I believe more creativity in the menu is needed. It was a family member's birthday on the day, and we appreciated your thoughtful gesture of providing sweets as a gift. Thank you very much!

    The hospitality was excellent.

We stayed here for one night to celebrate my mother's 77th birthday. The food was exceptional, and I tried fresh Iwana sashimi for the first time—it was so delicious that I wanted more! The meat in the hot pot was thick and flavorful as well. The hostess kindly greeted us during dinner and later sent a thoughtful letter to my mother. Even when we accidentally left something behind, they went out of their way to send it back to us without charge, despite our offer to pay for shipping. Their hospitality extended seamlessly even to foreign guests, showcasing their outstanding service spirit. I felt completely at ease bringing my elderly parent here. Thank you very much!

    The Onsen was wonder...

The Onsen was wonderful. The temperature was just right, there were few users, and it was very relaxing. The meals were also excellent, though the portions for children seemed a bit too much. The hostess's greeting and the staff's service were warm and welcoming.

It was a wonderful accommodation, just as the reviews said.

As per the reviews, it was a wonderful accommodation. What stood out was that the interior was impeccably clean and didn’t feel old at all. *This might depend on the room. I stayed in a room with a private bath. The dinner venue (private room) was conveniently located right in front of our accommodation room, making access extremely easy. I think this is an advantage that large ryokans nearby cannot offer. *This may vary depending on the room; I stayed in one with a private bath. After breakfast, you might crave coffee, right? As mentioned in reviews, there’s no free service like you often see recently. However, you can enjoy coffee for 550 yen at the spacious front area for a fee. It was carefully prepared and worth the price. Since it’s paid, there’s no need to wait in line—so I think this works well too! *Rooms with private baths have coffee machines available. I invited my parents to stay here, and they were both very pleased with their experience—I’m glad I chose this place! Thank you very much!

Thank you to the hostess and all the staff!

We deeply appreciate the warm hospitality of the hostess and the attentive service of all the staff who welcomed us. They kindly stored our luggage before check-in and after check-out, which was very helpful. We stayed for two nights and three days from Thursday to Saturday, and enjoyed a relaxing time in the Onsen during weekdays when it was less crowded. The Ryokan is conveniently located near the station, with a riverside walking path and stylish cafes nearby, offering plenty to enjoy outside as well.

    Relaxing Accommodation

I stayed for one night with my sister and 27-year-old daughter. Although there seemed to be many guests, the large public bath was not crowded, allowing us to relax and enjoy the open-air bath with a stunning view. The meals were all delicious, especially the fresh and exquisite Iwana sashimi. The beef shabu-shabu was tender and highly satisfying as well. The male staff member who greeted us at the entrance guided us efficiently, and the female staff serving our meal was knowledgeable about sake, which was very helpful in making our selection. I was deeply touched when they knew it was my birthday the following week; I received a handwritten letter and sweets from the proprietress. The room we stayed in was a standard 10-tatami mat Japanese-style room, but the hallway leading from the entrance to the bathroom and toilet felt spacious, making it seem larger than it actually is. We were soothed by both the comforting hot springs and warm hospitality—this is an accommodation we would love to visit again!

    A slightly traditional Ryokan atmosphere

A corner Room on the 5th floor, it felt very luxurious compared to home. However, there was a long chair on the opposite side of the bedroom, and I wished there were cushions. Also, the Room door only had a lock, which felt slightly unusual. Nonetheless, I was impressed by how well-trained even non-Japanese staff were. I would love to visit again; thank you for your hospitality!

    Thank you!

We stayed at the accommodation with my parents to celebrate their upcoming golden wedding anniversary, without notifying the staff in advance due to our busy schedule. During dinner, the hostess kindly came to greet us, and we shared the purpose of our trip. Upon departure, she gave us a lovely letter and a thoughtful gift. It became an unforgettable memory, and my parents were delighted! The hospitality, onsen, and cuisine were all exceptional, allowing us to relax and forget about daily life for a while. We would love to visit again. Thank you so much!!

    The open-air bath is exceptional.

I chose this accommodation because I was drawn to the photos of the open-air bath. The view of the sky, mountains, and trees right in front of me, with the Kinugawa River flowing below and nothing obstructing the scenery, made the open-air bath exactly as shown in the photos—absolutely perfect. The view from the room with a bed was also wonderful, with large glass windows providing an open and refreshing atmosphere. It was my first solo trip, but dinner was served in a private room where I could enjoy my meal without worrying about others around me. This private room had a low table and low chairs, creating a very relaxing dining experience that I believe is also accommodating for elderly guests or children. The staff who guided me to my room and served meals were from overseas but provided very polite service throughout. This has become an accommodation I would love to visit again!

Accommodation of Serenity and Warm Hospitality

As the phrase "Accommodation of Serenity and Sincerity" suggests, the place is quiet, elegant, and exudes a sense of luxury throughout. The bath with a view of the river was also excellent. Above all, there were many moments where I felt genuine sincerity, making me want to visit again.

    The bath was almost ...

The bath was almost like a private experience, possibly because it was a Sunday stay, and I thoroughly enjoyed the open-air bath with its reclining feature. The meals were delicious, made with plenty of local ingredients, leaving me completely satisfied. The service was simple yet courteous. Despite staying in a standard room, the hostess greeted us during dinner, which was a thoughtful gesture. Additionally, we received a small gift at checkout. As for areas of improvement, the sound of the door opening and closing was slightly loud. It would also be nice to have coffee or similar services available after breakfast.

    Although they were kind...

A large insect appeared in the room, and there was no one at the front desk. I desperately searched for staff late at night. I could hardly sleep that night, felt unwell, and returned home without having breakfast. I had been looking forward to this stay so much that it left me feeling disappointed. The accommodation staff were generally kind and attentive, so I don't think they were at fault. However, I honestly feel some form of compensation would have been appreciated. Because of my high expectations, this trip ended up being the least enjoyable one I've ever had, which leaves me with mixed feelings. Still, I believe this is a good accommodation overall; the service and bath deserve 5 stars. The meals remain unchanged from traditional ryokan standards and could use some updates for improvement.

    Affordable accommodation

I decided to visit the Kinugawa area, which I don't usually go to, as I was able to take a sudden day off. The accommodation had high review ratings and reasonable prices, so I made the reservation without much thought. However, it turned out that the room we booked was the most expensive one in this accommodation. The place itself felt very modest. The meals were notable; for dinner, the main dish of sashimi featured whole river fish and there was an abundance of yuba (tofu skin). Breakfast especially stood out with dishes like flatly arranged yuba sashimi and simmered dishes wrapped in yuba—essentially a feast of yuba. The grilled horse mackerel, which seemed to be the main dish for breakfast, had barely any edible meat left after grilling on a net over fire; we ended up just picking at it lightly—it was extremely simple fare. The bed mattress seemed inexpensive and hard; I couldn't relax or sleep comfortably. As for bathing facilities, we skipped using our room's open-air bath and went to the public bath instead. From its outdoor bath area, you could enjoy views of Kinugawa Gorge while listening to the sound of flowing water—a pleasant experience overall. However, there were no boxes provided for used towels brought from our room; this meant having to carry wet towels back ourselves—a bit inconvenient. The hostess's greeting reflected traditional Japanese hospitality nicely. Most staff members appeared to be foreign workers who worked diligently and gave their best effort. Still, overall impressions suggested signs of financial struggles in management—I felt that I probably wouldn't revisit this accommodation again in the future.

It was a very good accommodation.

We stayed here for a family trip. The hostess, reception staff, floor staff we passed by, and the dining preparation staff were all polite and welcoming with warm smiles, providing excellent service. It was evident that there was great communication among the staff. As mentioned in other reviews, there are many foreign staff members; however, they spoke beautiful Japanese and provided impeccable service. The facility is old but has been beautifully renovated in areas such as the rooms, baths, and dining spaces, so it did not bother us at all. The meals featured local ingredients with many healthy options that were not overly greasy. We left feeling very full and satisfied. Dinner was served in a private room while breakfast was served in a semi-private space within the dining area, which allowed for privacy without being disturbed by other guests. From our room and the open-air bath, we could enjoy views of Kinugawa River. The location is also convenient as it’s close to both the station and a convenience store. If we have another chance to visit Kinugawa again, we would definitely stay here! One small request would be to have coffee service available during breakfast.
