A charming traditional Ryokan with a nostalgic atmosphere

The Room was spacious and had a veranda-like deck called the Tsukimidai, with a nice view and the ocean visible in the distance. Meals were served in the Room, and every dish was delicious—we finished everything at both breakfast and dinner. However, it was disappointing that the drinks in the refrigerator were expensive. The Onsen also felt very open; while I did wonder if it might be visible from somewhere, I was still able to bathe comfortably. Another bath area was spacious, and the water in the roofed open-air bath left my skin feeling moisturized like lotion. Inside the building, it seems to have been expanded many times over the years, so some areas are a bit confusing, and many guests seemed to get lost. There were only a few souvenirs for sale, and there were no Facilities such as karaoke or table tennis, but it had an old-fashioned Ryokan atmosphere that we really enjoyed.

    The Best Hotel

Wonderful baths—especially the open-air “Sky” bath, which was outstanding. The meals were delicious, and we even had some packed to take away. We would love to visit again.

I had a relaxing time in a spacious Room with a great view.

The view from the garden was great, the food was delicious, and I was very satisfied. The underground bath is spacious, and the rooftop open-air bath was also wonderful. Since I stayed alone, I enjoyed bathing while watching the sunrise. There was a slight concern about being seen from distant Hotels or apartments with telescopes (laughs), but it offered a great view of the city. For women who might be concerned, using the open-air bath after dark could be a good option.

Relax and unwind in spacious comfort.

It was my first time staying here. I stayed with three friends. The Room was spacious, and the view from the Room was amazing. We could enjoy our meals in the Room and relax while having drinks together. The private hot spring in the Room was incredibly refreshing. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance. Thank you very much!

    60th Birthday Celebration

We stayed here for a trip to celebrate the 60th birthday of all six friends. The service with red vests and photos made us very happy. Although we thought one room for six people might be cramped, it was spacious with two connected rooms and a wide veranda. The bathroom, toilet, and sink were renovated, making them very comfortable to use. Additionally, the view was excellent, and it was a wonderful room overall. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the room, allowing us to enjoy leisurely conversations while dining. On top of that, the food was delicious and left nothing to be desired—we were extremely satisfied. Next time, I would like to visit with my grandchildren along with my children's families. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Thank you very much.

Although the accommodation was old, it was clean. The male staff at the reception were all kind and helpful. If I were to make one suggestion, it would be to change the footwear for accessing the rooftop open-air bath from slippers to outdoor shoes once you step outside the building. On that day, it was raining on and off, and the floor was wet; a few people slipped because of this. I also slipped on the stairs and fell down. Slippers seem prone to slipping. Switching to non-slip outdoor shoes would be safer and more hygienic in my opinion.

I would like to stay here again.

This is my third visit, and the private open-air Onsen in the room is truly wonderful. The staff at the accommodation are kind, and I would love to visit again. Also, the meals are always delicious.

Perfect location for viewing the fireworks festival

It was a short stay as we checked in late without dinner, but it was thoroughly satisfying. The building seems to have been renovated from an older structure, and the blend of old and new is well-balanced, which explains its high review ratings. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Above all, the hostess and all the staff were incredibly kind. The quality and temperature of the large bath were pleasant, and the view of Atami from the panoramic bath was stunning. However, it was a bit disappointing that the room bath wasn't a flowing hot spring; it took time to fill up with water. Additionally, some tiles in the indoor bath were peeling off and felt rough on the skin. Breakfast served in-room was satisfying in both quantity and taste. I wanted to eat more rice but decided against it for my diet (laughs).

This is the quintessential Atami accommodation.

Among the many Ryokans in Atami, Shinkadoya is truly a classic Ryokan. The open-air "Tenku no Yu" bath offers a breathtaking view of Atami city and the sea, perfect for enjoying the night scenery or the sparkling morning ocean. The meals are delicious, especially the rice cooked in an earthen pot, which is so good you'll find yourself eating more than usual. The dried horse mackerel served at breakfast is also a delightful local specialty of Atami. Notably, the Rooms with their serene decor are exceptional. In addition to traditional Japanese-style rooms, there are also bedrooms with beds, providing spacious accommodations that allow even large groups to relax comfortably. I would love to visit again!

    It was a wonderful time.

We had a wonderful time during our 1-night, 2-day stay. The spacious and calming room, along with the breathtaking view from it, truly made us feel the meaning of "enjoyment." Although we were not accustomed to in-room dining and found the timing a bit challenging, the heartfelt hospitality left a lasting impression on us. Even though we only mentioned in the reservation comments that it was a birthday on that day without requesting any special plan, we were deeply touched by your thoughtful gesture (thank you so much). This is an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    Accommodation with Hospitality

We chose an accommodation with a room featuring an open-air bath to celebrate my elderly mother's birthday, as she has difficulty walking. Although we informed them in advance, they kindly provided wheelchair shuttle service to the room. The spacious room was equipped with a table and chairs for meals, and even had enough space for a simple bed. Both breakfast and dinner were served in the room, allowing us to enjoy the onsen while overlooking the ocean from inside. The dinner was carefully prepared, well-balanced, and very delicious. While the facility shows some signs of aging with minor wear in certain areas, it was not unpleasant at all, and the water facilities were clean. All staff members were extremely kind and attentive.

Accommodation with Stunning Views and Excellent Onsen

The view of the sea was stunning, and the Onsen was so enjoyable that I found myself soaking in it more than usual. Meals were seafood-based, with rice cooked in a traditional pot for both breakfast and dinner, which was delicious. All the staff were incredibly kind, and even when my mother caused some inconvenience, their exceptional hospitality as a long-established accommodation stood out. It’s an accommodation I would love to stay at again.

    Relax at a Traditional Accommodation

After enjoying the Atami shopping street, we took a taxi to the location. Situated on a hill, the Facility, though old, was well-maintained and offered a beautiful view different from an ocean view. The hot spring and service were excellent, allowing us to relax and unwind. Thank you very much.

We stayed as three families. When we mentioned in conversation that it was a celebration for an 88th birthday, they kindly prepared a wonderful surprise for us despite the short notice, making it a truly memorable occasion. Thank you very much. The meals were carefully prepared and absolutely delicious. The rooms were all spacious with great views, and the Onsen water was at just the right temperature—not too hot—making it one of the most pleasant Onsen experiences we've ever had. I heard there is usually a waiting list during fireworks events, but I would love to see them from here someday.

We sincerely appreciate the kindness and support of the staff during our stay. When my husband felt unwell and couldn’t have dinner, you promptly prepared the bedding for him and took great care of us. Thank you so much. The meals were delicious, especially the abalone in the dancing grill—it was impressively large, tender, thick, and incredibly tasty. My husband couldn’t enjoy it this time, which he deeply regretted. We hope to visit again for a second chance to fully enjoy your hospitality and cuisine. Thank you very much for everything!

    Hmm...

The hot spring quality was excellent. I have a house dust allergy, and as soon as I arrived in the room, I couldn't stop sneezing and had a runny nose. It improved after taking allergy medicine the next day. The air conditioner remote in the room didn’t work, and when I asked for assistance, there was no apology; they simply told me to use the main unit switch. Temperature and airflow could not be adjusted. There were cobwebs in the corners of the room, a light cover was detached, and one of the sliding doors used for privacy had fallen off. Above all else, the service by staff was terrible—possibly my worst experience ever. Even opening or closing doors was done carelessly with one hand while leaving. There wasn’t even a hint of friendliness; their attitude was appalling. When asked about dinner time for in-room dining after being told it would be at 6 PM, I questioned if it could be changed but received an unclear response: "It can be changed but is usually set earlier based on arrival order." After some negotiation, they agreed to change it to 6:30 PM; however, shockingly at 5:30 PM they barged into my room unannounced while I was bathing in my private bathroom! This behavior lacked any sense of decency or professionalism whatsoever. Dinner eventually started at 6:30 PM as planned but during that hour leading up to it we couldn’t relax at all wondering if someone might enter again unexpectedly—so much so that we couldn’t even enjoy using our private open-air bath before eating. Of course explanations about dishes were not thorough either—it seemed entirely based on their convenience rather than serving each dish individually; instead two or three items were brought out together over three rounds total during dinner service. For drinks only bottled beer from mini-fridge options like canned cocktails were available—no draft beer nor custom drink orders allowed. Although this course featured golden-eye snapper (kinmedai), only its simmered dish used actual kinmedai fish despite being described otherwise—and seasoning felt overly salty unless consumed sparingly which made portions difficult overall enjoyment-wise. At final serving moment staff mentioned returning within thirty minutes later clearing everything away implying guests must finish meals quickly under pressure unnecessarily adding stress onto dining experience itself! Next morning checkout policy stated departure required strictly by latest timing around **11 AM** yet oddly emphasized vacating rooms specifically **10:45 AM** beforehand—a first-time encounter hearing such rigid instructions anywhere previously stayed accommodations elsewhere globally speaking frankly! Given older building structure involving multiple staircases elevator transfers handling luggage independently proved challenging especially carrying heavy suitcases upon departure journey homeward bound ultimately exhausting effort physically demanding task altogether!

A property that makes you want to cheer for it

We used the property for a girls' trip during the middle of a three-day weekend. In conclusion, everyone was very satisfied overall! It wasn't flashy, but the feeling of hospitality was clearly conveyed, making it a memorable stay. - Facility While we were slightly cautious about the age of the corridors and elevators, we were surprised by how spacious our reserved room was. Indeed, you can't deny its age, but efforts to renovate according to modern times were evident. If I may say so, it was too spacious & with windows too large (lol), making it difficult to control the air conditioning in the room. Weakening the air conditioner or spending time near windows made our feet cold quickly. On the other hand, strengthening it made things too dry. While dryness is inevitable, I thought having lap blankets as a measure against cold would be nice—especially when trying to enjoy views by windows; it's quite chilly... lol We deducted one star only for that. - Onsen The onsen with natural hot spring water flowing directly from its source on-site had an excellent quality! The dressing room at the panoramic bath was too cold; having at least a heater would be appreciated. - Meals This part was simply superb. Although not as flashy as menus found in other ryokans (Ryokan), each dish showed meticulous care and effort put into them—reduced pesticide rice or seasonal vegetables along with homemade pickles up until dessert fruits... From conversations with Okami (the proprietress), she seemed dedicated even when choosing farmers carefully for ingredients used here. This kind of attentive work can only be understood now after gaining years & experience—and us three ladies got excited over this fact together lol By way: Diamond benefits included original sake from Ryokan which also had particular attention paid towards quality—it turned out great! We informed beforehand so they served during dinner allowing us enjoyment alongside dishes! - Customer Service Foreign staff members alongside elderly ones plus Okami—all worked hard conveying their desire "to provide hospitality," leaving positive impressions upon us throughout interactions. Especially notable: despite being busy herself likely enough already - Okami actively engaged directly conversing guests like ourselves showing genuine interest which left favorable impressions behind! Even if there were slight inconveniences present—they added charm reflecting history within such properties themselves nonetheless—a wonderful stay worth revisiting whenever returning Atami again someday surely awaits ahead thanks much indeed!

    A traditional Ryokan in Atami

The interior of the building has a nostalgic Showa-era feel. At first, I was surprised to find the room smelled of tobacco and had an ashtray, wondering if it was a smoking room! However, upon checking the reservation site, I found that it is indeed rare these days but this property offers smoking rooms. Therefore, those who do not smoke should check carefully when making a reservation. Having gotten used to private dining rooms or restaurant meals, having meals in the room felt like a nice change after a long time. However, since the facility consists of three connected buildings, it's quite easy to get lost. This property is recommended for seniors, smokers, and those who want to experience nostalgia. Thank you very much.

A Ryokan in Atami, known for its slopes and stairs.

The food was very delicious. The Facility was old, but I appreciated the effort to renovate and keep it clean. However, since there are extensions connected, there are stairs and slopes, which might be challenging if you're not steady on your feet. Room service was excellent.

Family trip after a long time

It was a family trip with my elderly mother for the first time in a while. The room was spacious with a great view, and the food was very delicious, leaving us extremely satisfied. The open-air bath in the sky was truly pleasant. The sunrise view from the room was also fantastic.
