Accommodation on Casual Street
It was exactly as described—casual. The interior still feels a bit dated, there were many international guests, and the meals felt like a mix of Japanese and Western styles. We chose the couples Plan and had an instant photo taken, but although the paper had a space to write “To Mr./Ms. ___,” it was left blank and only the photo was inserted. There was an EV-only space in the first parking lot, so we intentionally parked in the second lot, but later we saw regular cars parked in the EV-only space. I think the EV-only spaces should be moved to the second lot. It’s a shame because all of the staff were very kind.

The meals and the quality of the Onsen are good, but cost-cutting on staffing gives the impression that it lowers overall satisfaction.
I was surprised by the smartphone-based check-in. The Accommodation is located at the top of a very steep hill. I guided my elderly mother with her walker up a gentler side slope. The welcome sake and unlimited coffee were nice, and the waiting lounge was lovely. However, when we got to the Room, it felt heavily renovated—spacious, but the raised tatami area used cheap vinyl-like material with no scent of igusa. There were no chairs at all, so we ended up sitting on the bed or on the edge of the tatami area. I had high expectations because it came with an open-air bath, but it was cold and fully exposed—basically just a regular bath. We were told it was selected for its view, but you can only see the lake; Mt. Fuji is not visible. I didn’t feel like using it. The Onsen is on “the first floor,” but from the lounge level you go down as if to B1. The staircase is straight and very steep; my elderly mother somehow managed to go down and back up, but overall this feels like a practical Facility designed for younger guests. The door at the Onsen entrance requires so much force that it feels like strength training. The Onsen itself offers two types with different temperatures, which was satisfying. However, depending on the time of day it can get too hot—there isn’t much attention to detail in how things are managed. What upset me most was dinner service. Dishes kept coming out one after another without regard for our pace—as if telling us to hurry up (perhaps because we were in the first seating at 17:30). The pot dish was probably meant for shabu-shabu, but there wasn’t time to handle it properly; it boiled hard and the meat became tough. Explanations were minimal—just one menu sheet per group—and I felt like livestock being fed. The food itself had creative touches (including some Spanish-style items) and tasted good, but poor service ruined it. Isn’t there any consideration to explain dishes calmly and serve them according to how guests are eating? Was staff training insufficient (many staff members were foreign), or is this individual ability? The staff in the morning were friendlier and more responsive. There were many international guests as well; if they think this is Japanese service standards, it would damage Hakone’s reputation. Staff need better training. There was no information booklet in the Room—not even evacuation guidance—which is unacceptable at this level. We also had to lay out our own futon bedding. If you’re going full “training camp” style like this, then keep it under 20,000 yen per person—that’s how I felt. The air conditioner was weak for such a large Room (only one unit), so I woke up cold in the morning. The only saving grace is that food quality is good overall—but Ryokan are about service. It’s better to stay here thinking of it as a Business Hotel (though even then you don’t usually have to make your own bed).

Partial accessibility? Lack of communication.
- The meals were wonderful, delicious, and served in good portions. Thank you for accommodating the additional requests. Below are some points that fell short of expectations, which made me a bit disappointed that this was handled by IKYU: - Despite leaving a message at the time of Reservation, there was no acknowledgment or response regarding whether it could be accommodated. When I called, I was connected to a call center instead of the Facility itself and had to ask for a direct line as they were unaware of the on-site situation. - Even though I entered information on a tablet during check-in, I was asked again at the counter. What was the point of entering it on the device? - At check-in, I received one printed sheet; however, it did not include details such as dinner or breakfast times and its purpose was unclear. Later on, I found out that various things could be done using the QR code printed on it but there was no explanation provided about this. - When asked "Do you have any questions?" during check-in, honestly speaking we felt like we wanted to ask them instead! - The light in front of our Room wasn’t working (apparently due to a burnt-out bulb). - The bulb in our private bath also burned out and had to be replaced hastily. - The Room only had ceiling lights with no brightness adjustment or nightlight available; there wasn’t even a stand lamp provided either! We ended up keeping our closet open with its light left turned on throughout our stay for illumination purposes. - Although described as barrier-free (universal design), there were no handrails installed in toilets (it turned out “barrier-free” simply meant flat flooring without steps). - There wasn’t even one wheelchair-accessible toilet within shared areas—something expected nowadays regardless if labeled barrier-free or not! - Upon requesting an appropriate bath chair suitable for use inside baths/showers—it arrived covered entirely by black stains making usage unpleasant; similarly observed conditions applied across chairs located within large communal baths too where additionally two out seven showerheads weren’t functioning properly either! - During checkout after payment completion—I found myself being asked whether I'd require Receipts when typically such documents should automatically come issued without needing prompts whatsoever… I’ve heard recently this Hotel has been catering heavily towards inbound travelers yet originally operated historically under Ryokan traditions perhaps? While hospitality here may feel somewhat detached/dry compared against expectations alongside lacking attention paid toward finer details—it leaves me wondering if these reflect broader trends today albeit still feeling slightly disheartened overall… Regardless nationality among staff members involved—I sincerely hope efforts continue preserving Japan’s renowned omotenashi spirit whilst further honing communication skills moving forward! That is all

Thank you for your patronage.
I stayed in a Japanese-Western style room with an open-air bath for two nights. Although I didn't use the open-air bath much (the water seemed to leak when filled), the room was spacious, likely because I chose the largest option. However, being on the second floor, I imagine the view might be better from a third-floor room. The meals on the second night felt better both in quality and atmosphere (even though I reserved the same course). The dining area on the second night was more private and relaxing compared to a larger shared space. There were many international guests, so dining in a large room made conversations slightly noticeable at times. The lobby offers free drinks, including alcohol available until around 7 PM in the evening—a pleasant surprise! (It would be nice if wine were available even on weekdays.) Access is very convenient from Naka-Gora Station. I forgot something during my stay, but thanks to the front desk staff who kindly kept it for me—it was very helpful! Thank you!

Affordable and great...
Affordable and great Hotel. The food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly! A bit disappointing that the first parking lot has limited spaces, the second parking lot is far away, and the entrance is hard to find.

Worth the price, and it felt nice.
We stayed as two men on a trip. The 3-star rating for customer service is because we had limited interaction with the staff. The changing area in the bath was slightly dim, and I thought it could be brighter. The meals were average, but I felt efforts were being made. Regarding the lounge, there was a description of drink and food services, so we went with expectations. However, there was no food service, and although it seemed like draft beer would be available from 3 PM to 7 PM based on the display, it wasn’t offered. Displaying something that isn’t available is unacceptable and should be corrected immediately. Future guests may also come expecting such services; if these expectations cannot be met, it might be better to remove such offerings altogether. There are excellent services like massage chairs that exceed expectations; however, negative points can cancel out these positives. It’s very unfortunate and I hope for improvements in this regard. Thank you very much!

It was unfortunate.
The behavior of some staff members! This is the only thing that was very disappointing. Without this, the service would have been 4 stars. Other staff members were kind and responsive. I understand there is a time limit for meals, but being asked if it's okay to clear the table and being told it's closing time makes me feel rushed. The seasoned rice was very delicious. The cleaning was poor, especially the dirt around the kettle spout. Other areas didn't bother me, but just the kettle made me worry about the cleanliness of other areas. There is a steep staircase up to the entrance. There is a ramp, but it's difficult to move because the stones are cracked. The bath is also in the basement, and I could only find stairs, so it might be a challenging Facility for those with mobility issues or small children. It's very disappointing because there are wonderful staff members who work with the customers in mind, but some staff members were a letdown.

3.83くるぽวันที่โพสต์: 13/9/2024I think it's a hotel that offers value for the price.
【Good Points】 - We were able to stay in a spacious room with meals at a discounted rate due to a last-minute deal. - Dinner was delicious. - The free drinks, with unlimited soft drinks available 24 hours, were great. - The private onsen was a bit hot, but it was a nice hot spring. - When we found insects and contacted the front desk, they responded immediately. 【Disappointing Points】 - One of the beds was extremely worn out, and it felt like the bed coils were directly hitting my back, which was painful. Instead of becoming healthier from the onsen, I think it might cause back pain. - The breakfast had a nice presentation, but the taste was... - The onsen in the large public bath was so hot that I couldn't even put my feet in. The facility does have many old parts, but considering the value, I think it's understandable. Thank you very much.

Conversion to a foreign Hotel
I visited Hakone for the first time in about five years. This was my first stay at this Accommodation, but overall I was disappointed in many ways, and unless major improvements are made, I don’t think I will return. Perhaps due to staff shortages and low wages, the quality of the staff has declined, the service feels outdated, and things have become overly “modernized” with QR codes and similar systems—so much so that what makes a Ryokan special has been lost. Looking at past Reviews, I see similar comments, so it doesn’t seem like there is any intention to improve. It may be better than some overseas Hotels, but I understood that this is simply a situation where guests are expected to accept it. The Ryokan itself has a nice atmosphere, so it made me feel it must have been a good Ryokan in the past. It now feels quite close to an overseas Hotel style. Only the website photos and entrance look nice—the substance doesn’t match—making it a Ryokan that reminds me of our neighboring country. Good points ・The atmosphere from the gate to the Accommodation entrance was nice. The garden also felt pleasant. ・The meals were acceptable overall. The beer was properly served too. ・Massage chairs were free to use as much as you want. Bad points ・Check-in on a tablet was confusing. Even though I was struggling with it, the front desk staff pretended not to notice. ・Explanations about the Accommodation are overly simplified; guests are basically pushed to use their own smartphones for everything. They won’t explain things like how to use the baths unless you ask first. What do you do for elderly guests who aren’t comfortable with smartphones? ・There are no brochures or information materials in the Room. ・No explanation of emergency exits or evacuation routes. ・The teacups were mismatched types/styles. ・The shower in the bath area leaked from the hose connection/section. ・I used the bath at night and again in the morning; trash left there at night was still there in the morning—are they cleaning? ・The view from the bath wasn’t great; utility poles and power lines were clearly visible. ・The Room air purifier was covered in dust, and one of its blades/fins was broken。 ・Guests have to lay out their own futons (self-service). ・Most dining staff were foreigners; I couldn’t understand what they were saying well, and plates were taken away immediately after eating—I felt rushed and couldn’t relax。 ・Yukata shelf size labels are hard to understand, and even sample yukata for checking sizes weren’t consistently available across sizes。 ・No explanation about welcome drinks。 ・I thought welcome drinks meant unlimited soft drinks and alcohol beverages, but there wasn’t any alcohol prepared। After another guest pointed it out、they finally set it up—but said it would be limited to one drink per person。 What’s advertised differs from reality。
